[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 486502] Re: [fglrx karmic] Black screen and no response after starting X (Radeon HD3870)
I can confirm this bug, on a HD 4830 using Ubuntu karmic AMD64 the only driver that works for me is the catalyst 9.8 patched for the 2.6.31 kernel. I tried 9.9 through 9.12 and none of them works. -- [fglrx karmic] Black screen and no response after starting X (Radeon HD3870) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/486502 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 505415] [NEW] Suspend freezes the screen on Acer Aspire One
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg When you suspend the netbook and then reanudate you get a freeze screen (normaly all in a color like black, pink, blue, orange, etc) after 5 o 10 minutes. If you suspend again the same behaviour. If never suspend or hibernate you never get this problem, but if you suspend one time, you are lost. I get the screen again, pressing Fn + F4 (go to suspend again) and when reanudate the screen works. It's hard work when you suspend because the netbook freeze the screen each 5-10 min and interrupt your work (and network connection, then you dont upload a big file or chat well). If you need some log, just tell me. This bug have been reported without suspend. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 312756] Re: support graphics card hot switch
Hi, I didn't see the comment by Timo requesting no more DSDT.dsl attachments. But is very disappointing for me seeing this as declined for Karmic and also for Lucid (which means that an official solution will not be available *at least* until October 2010). After many years of using Ubuntu only I had to use the included Windows 7 since battery lasts 10 hours (one of the main reasons I purchased this laptop) and also I don't have any kind of visual effects on my desktop (which means I've lost the transparency effect that was so useful for me). It should not be considered wishlist as it will surely drive users away from Ubuntu :( Hot swapping cards is not really the important thing, I would really be happy if I could select that at boot time or before the x-session is started. By killing the nvidia card I now have a little more battery, but it is not enough and not a solution. -- support graphics card hot switch https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/312756 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 505545] [NEW] Kernel mode setting breaks panning on Intel Mobile GM965/GL960
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Xrandr's panning feature does not work correctly in Karmic. The mouse pointer keeps losing its place while moving outside the boundaries of the viewport. Because of this, certain areas of the display cannot be reached because the mouse position has been offset (i.e. the mouse pointer is displayed in a place different from where it should be). The command I used to enable panning is: xrandr --fb 4096x1600 --output LVDS1 --mode 1280x800 --panning 4096x1600 Changing the resolutions does not fix the problem. However, disabling kernel mode setting by adding the option nomodeset to the kernel command line in GRUB fixes this problem. I also have to change LVDS1 to LVDS: xrandr --fb 4096x1600 --output LVDS --mode 1280x800 --panning 4096x1600 I would like to have a panning display in Ubuntu 9.10 without resorting to nomodeset. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 505560] [NEW] boot fails after changing graphics card
Public bug reported: When I installed Ubuntu my system had an ATI graphics card. Once I got to the desktop I used System - Administration - Hardware Drivers to install a driver for it. Later I wanted to use an Intel graphics card, so I disabled the ATI card from bios and enabled the Intel card instead. When booting up the computer again it failed and got stuck in a text console. I had no idea, why and I was worried that my Intel card was broken, as one of my friends had got the card working without any problems. About a year later I read that the Intel card would support kernel mode setting, so I gave it another try, but it was still broken. After spending quite some time asking about the problem in various places I finally found out that I should remove some packages related to the ATI card. I think it was removing xorg-driver-fglrx package that finally fixed the problem and I was able to use my Intel card. By filing this bug I'm not hoping for a system that would revolutionize the graphics card infrastructure of the whole Linux eco system or what ever, but could you please change the system to a slightly more understandable direction, so getting a new graphics card (that has been proven to work in Ubuntu!) to work in Ubuntu would take a one day, instead of a year. Maybe you could put a notification on first boot with the new card For your new graphics card to work we have to remove some stuff related to your old card. Sorry for the inconvenience. Actually, Olie (bug 447892, comment #68) only reported to have downgraded -intel and not libdrm. Irihapeti (bug 477256) tested -intel 3:2.8.1-1ubuntu3+karmic. So none of them tested exactly the same as you. I've asked them to. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 475429] Re: [i945] Intel 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller Freezes when compiz enabled
Thank you again, Takashi. I would like to forward your bug upstream so that more competent people than me may have a look at it. The developers at Intel usually get happier if we supply bugs from more recent software versions. So I'm wondering if you test Lucid (either by upgrading, testing a LiveCD or installing on a separate partition). Then upgrade to the xorg-edgers PPA (https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa) to get the latest versions of everything. Finally, make the following /etc/X11/xorg.conf: Section Device Identifier my-945G Driver intel Option DebugFlushCaches 1 EndSection If this configuration doesn't have other serious problems (sometimes xorg-edgers contain code that are a bit too recent, in that case, use the ppa-purge program available from that PPA to downgrade again), a fresh batchbuffer dump may be more useful than the previous one. Also, run `apport-collect 475492` in order to upload fresh log files here. If the xorg-edgers PPA doesn't work well enough or you have other problems with it, you can do the batchbuffer dump and apport-collect without it. -- [i945] Intel 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller Freezes when compiz enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/475429 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 500686] Re: [i945g] freezes shortly after loading desktop
It seems that there is something wrong with the kernel package or the installation of them. Have you tried the suggested workaround which is to install it again (with dpkg -i) before removing it? If you are unsure which kernel is running at any point, the command `uname -a` will tell you which one it is. Since the 799 kernel did not freeze, it is most likely the commit after that which triggers the freezes. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 505675] [NEW] Lid switch hangs Dell inspiron 500m with KMS and ForceEnablePipeA
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel In a new install of 9.10 on a Dell Inspiron 500m, suspend and hibernate work out of the box. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 505359] Re: libgl1-mesa-dev installs a broken link in /usr/lib
Well yes there still can be an issue when building sources off of. A series of builds of vlc 1.0.4, vlc 1.1-git and mplayer showed vlc 1.1 is fine as things stand Both vlc 1.0.4 and mplayer, while finding the headers, will fail to link to libGL.so The fix there (as things stand) is to create a new link for the build(s), after which it can be deleted sudo ln -s /usr/lib/mesa/libGL.so.1 /usr/lib/libGL.so What may continue to be an issue is the update to libglu1-mesa-dev which moved those libs inside of /usr/lib/mesa for the moment here have reverted libglu1-mesa and libglu1-mesa-dev back so the libs are in /usr/lib All the builds now work correctly with opengl output noting that these are make installs, (checkinstalls), not package builds, in a package build of vlc 1.0.4 the libGLU.so issue was irrelevant, libGLU.so isn't linked As currently set up (updated libgl1-mesa-dev, reverted libglu1-mesa-dev d...@doug-desktop:~$ ldd /usr/local/lib/vlc/video_output/libopengl_plugin.so linux-gate.so.1 = (0x00fa1000) libpthread.so.0 = /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libpthread.so.0 (0x00b0f000) libGL.so.1 = /usr/lib/nvidia-current/libGL.so.1 (0x001c7000) libGLU.so.1 = /usr/lib/libGLU.so.1 (0x00137000) libm.so.6 = /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libm.so.6 (0x005d) libvlccore.so.2 = /usr/local/lib/libvlccore.so.2 (0x00918000) libc.so.6 = /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6 (0x00b35000) /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x00e62000) libGLcore.so.1 = /usr/lib/nvidia-current/libGLcore.so.1 (0x00fa2000) libnvidia-tls.so.1 = /usr/lib/nvidia-current/tls/libnvidia-tls.so.1 (0x0011) libXext.so.6 = /usr/lib/libXext.so.6 (0x00112000) libX11.so.6 = /usr/lib/libX11.so.6 (0x006ca000) libdl.so.2 = /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libdl.so.2 (0x00da1000) libstdc++.so.6 = /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6 (0x00287000) libgcc_s.so.1 = /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 (0x00f0e000) libhal.so.1 = /usr/lib/libhal.so.1 (0x00122000) libdbus-1.so.3 = /lib/libdbus-1.so.3 (0x0037a000) librt.so.1 = /lib/tls/i686/cmov/librt.so.1 (0x001a8000) libxcb.so.1 = /usr/lib/libxcb.so.1 (0x003b3000) libXau.so.6 = /usr/lib/libXau.so.6 (0x001b1000) libXdmcp.so.6 = /usr/lib/libXdmcp.so.6 (0x008f5000) With the libglu1 updated, but a deb package build instead d...@doug-desktop:~$ ldd /usr/local/lib/vlc/video_output/libopengl_plugin.so linux-gate.so.1 = (0x00fa1000) libpthread.so.0 = /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libpthread.so.0 (0x00b0f000) libGL.so.1 = /usr/lib/nvidia-current/libGL.so.1 (0x001c7000) libm.so.6 = /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libm.so.6 (0x005d) libvlccore.so.2 = /usr/local/lib/libvlccore.so.2 (0x00918000) libc.so.6 = /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6 (0x00b35000) /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x00e62000) libGLcore.so.1 = /usr/lib/nvidia-current/libGLcore.so.1 (0x00fa2000) libnvidia-tls.so.1 = /usr/lib/nvidia-current/tls/libnvidia-tls.so.1 (0x0011) libXext.so.6 = /usr/lib/libXext.so.6 (0x00112000) libX11.so.6 = /usr/lib/libX11.so.6 (0x006ca000) libdl.so.2 = /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libdl.so.2 (0x00da1000) libstdc++.so.6 = /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6 (0x00287000) libgcc_s.so.1 = /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 (0x00f0e000) libhal.so.1 = /usr/lib/libhal.so.1 (0x00122000) libdbus-1.so.3 = /lib/libdbus-1.so.3 (0x0037a000) librt.so.1 = /lib/tls/i686/cmov/librt.so.1 (0x001a8000) libxcb.so.1 = /usr/lib/libxcb.so.1 (0x003b3000) libXau.so.6 = /usr/lib/libXau.so.6 (0x001b1000) libXdmcp.so.6 = /usr/lib/libXdmcp.so.6 (0x008f5000) -- libgl1-mesa-dev installs a broken link in /usr/lib https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/505359 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
