Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507598] Re: [GM45] serious X problem with aspire 5738z karmic
Hi, I understand. I have tested lucid and there is exactly the same behavior. The only change is that boot message says that i915.modeset=0 is not understood so skipped. Should I open multiple bug report (loss of pointer, xorg crash)? On 14 janv. 10, at 22:23, Geir Ove Myhr wrote: Sorry to close another bug report on you, but there are a few problems with your report: - You report multiple problems in one bug report (we will only focus on one per bug report) - You need to clearly state the exact problem in the title - You need to describe the problem in detail in the bug report. - We currently focus on fixing bug in the development release of Ubuntu (Lucid, 10.04). Only high-impact bugs in Karmic will get any attention at this point in time, and this doesn't seem to be one. You are welcome to test the development verison and report the bugs there (but use the above guidelines and the ones in the links in bug 437298) Based on this, I think it is best to close this bug report. This is not to say that you don't have real problems, only that your report doesn't help us solve them for the next release. We currently have far more bug reports in xserver-xorg-video-intel than we can handle, so I thought it was better to close this report that leave it ignored for a long time before it's closed. The Invalid status simply mean that we have closed the report for another reason than fixing the bug. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- [GM45] serious X problem with aspire 5738z karmic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507598 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507847] [NEW] Display problems on boot
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg In the past few weeks or so I have had many display related regressions from how Karmic worked for me in last October-early December. First, every one boot in 2-3 or so (irregularly) no cursor appears, though mouse works fine; i.e. I can click icons and reboot the computer using mouse. After reboot the problem is usually solved - sometimes it takes a couple of reboots or more, but logging out and back in or restarting gdm doesn't help. Second, display resolution sometimes reverts to 1152x864 on boot and I have to change it back to the native 1920x1080 from display settings. Third, sometimes display shuts down in mid-boot and no keys I press seem to have an effect. In addition, I cannot switch to console using Ctrl+Alt+Fx even after a successful boot. If I do, the display sometimes turns off with no signal, sometimes I see random colors. Often switching to console and back makes the system unstable or causes graphical glitches. I wrote about this part of the problem in a grub2 bug that seemed related (#447765), but I'm no longer sure if that's really the case. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507696] Re: Synaptics touchpad horizontal scroll doesnt work
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in the synaptics driver. When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. ** Package changed: ubuntu = xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) -- Synaptics touchpad horizontal scroll doesnt work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507696 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507598] Re: [GM45] serious X problem with aspire 5738z karmic
For the time being, the option nomodeset should work in Lucid. Once xserver-xorg-video-intel is upgraded from 2.9.1 to 2.10.0 (it will be soon) it won't work anymore. So it is not a useful workaround, but as long as it works it is good to have for troubleshooting purposes. Yes, please open two bug reports. I don't know very much about loss-of-pointer problems (but I have seen it happen before). For the crash case, you need to describe it a bit more closely. For example we have two different problems, which is a freeze (GPU hang) which has some symptoms and a crash (segmentation fault) which has different symptoms. What kind of additional information we need depends on exactly what the problem is. The two are described at the following links: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing -- [GM45] serious X problem with aspire 5738z karmic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507598 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507763] [NEW] When using dual DVI-screens, both display adapters register as DVI1 as well as DVI0.
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace Running a dual screen setup with an ATI card. This was fine until I upgraded the card. DVI1 and DVI0 are now seen on both adapters of my graphics card. Meaning that both screens insist that they're DVI1 and 0 at the same time - yet when I disable one a screen goes blank. Both adapters are also seen as connected even if I pull one out and restart the system that way. Am trying to run a dual-screen setup, but instead ending up with the same image duplicated across both monitors and the system telling me that I'm only running one physical monitor, but it's putting both (identical) displays on it. Most likely over the top of each other. Further info: Recently upgraded my graphics card from an X1900XTX, to a 4850 (both ATI) - and now get told I have an *unknown display type* on starting Kubuntu. Suspect this is related to the problem, though simply loading the *default* allows the displays to run - but with the problem as stated. Currently running Kubuntu 9.10, but problem has existed (for me) since 8.04. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 501875] Re: [i945G] Xorg freezes when using OpenGL on Intel i945
I have uploaded an older version of mesa to my old PPA: https://launchpad.net/~gomyhr/+archive/old/+packages . By testing this, we can find out if this is caused by a bug in mesa which is introduced after version 7.5. Unfortunately, installing it is probably not as easy as just adding the PPA to /etc/apt/sources and do `sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade`, since the version in the PPA is older than then one in karmic and I didn't do any PPA magic to make it want to upgrade anyway. The easiest way I can think about is probably to download all the deb-files for your architecture (*i386.deb) to an empty folder and do a `dpkg -i -O *.deb` in that folder. That will install only the packages that already have an installed version on your system. If Karmic freezes with this version, I can try to go all the way back to the Jaunty version. PS: I don't have a Karmic installation (I only have Jaunty and Lucid) so I haven't had a chance to test that the packages even work. -- [i945G] Xorg freezes when using OpenGL on Intel i945 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/501875 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

-- [i945] X-Server freeze with intel 945 using Karmic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/493111 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 508002] [NEW] Mouse becomes misaligned when panning enabled with dual monitors
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Panning works, but if I move the mouse rapidly in a way which causes the laptop LCD to pan to a border, the movement of the screen seems unable to keep up - the result is that the mouse becomes misaligned on the laptop screen. IE if I hover over a specific point (like an icon on the desktop) as viewed in the external monitor, the mouse pointer will be over a different point on the laptop LCD. If I then click on that point, the point which becomes 'clicked' is the point shown on the external monitor, not the internal LCD. This misalignment can be reset by moving very slowly to each corner of the virtual screen in turn. Once this is done, the mouse pointers show in the same place on both screens. Well, I've tried this set of packages. At first look, I thought that they solved the problem: * I've used Compiz effects without problem * I played OpenArena during 5 minutes (in medium configuration) without problem BUT... * When I've opened Blender, it froze instantly. * When I was writing a message here about this behaviour, the system froze again (exactly when a Firefox's tooltip appeared). If I remember correctly, the same used to happen in Jaunty. We know that the biggest problem is in version 7.6 of the Mesa. But version 7.5 also brings problems (though smaller). I still think that the problem has something to do with transparency effects (mainly because of the problem of the tooltip). In short, the problem persists. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 506623] Re: [Lucid] KWin composite don't start in KDE 4.4 RC 1
I have also noticed that KWin desktop effects under OpenGL have been knocked out with the latest mesa updates. Whilst other OpenGL applications work fine, KWin does not (and nor does Wine, for different reasons). XRender does work, but some options are disabled. However, with the latest NVidia drivers (I changed from sevenmachines PPA to the official Ubuntu ones to see if that cured this bug), I don't see the same output that the original bug reporter is seeing (ie. glxinfo worked), but KWin still does not want to work with OpenGL. -- [Lucid] KWin composite don't start in KDE 4.4 RC 1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/506623 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 508101] [NEW] When switching composite / compositing mode on or off, Xorg uses many MB of RAM which it never releases in Karmic
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Description:Ubuntu 9.10 Release:9.10 xserver-xorg: Installed: 1:7.4+3ubuntu10 Candidate: 1:7.4+3ubuntu10 Version table: *** 1:7.4+3ubuntu10 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com karmic-updates/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:7.4+3ubuntu7 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages 1:7.3+10ubuntu10 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages I am running Karmic on my MacBook Pro. Things run very smoothly overall, but I keep having issues with Xorg sucking up all available RAM. A system that should be able to log months of uptime and I'm having to restart (at least X) at least once every other week (this baby has *lots* of RAM). After poking around I noticed that the RAM gets consumed largely after switching on Compositing. Since Compositing is configured to turn off and on when I plug in and unplug the laptop, and when suspending, this can use up over a GB of RAM. This boot, Xorg started off using ~200MB of RAM (first time I checked it). After a switch off and on of Compositing (Alt-Shift-F12 in Kubuntu), Xorg now climbs to ~400MB. Another switch off and on and I was at ~480MB, then 495MB, after another switch I'm at 581MB. If I don't switch off and on Compositing, Xorg RAM usage sits still. Thank you for all your great work, guys. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 506318] Re: roma200100
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it. Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally, in the report please include: 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System - About Ubuntu. 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by checking in Synaptic. 3) What happened and what you expected to happen. The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures . Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make your bug report much more complete. Thanks for letting us know. Fwiw, the crash was caused by bug 507345 which caused xorg to crash on any error message. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 98783] Re: MASTER: memory leak
I'm seeing a very large X process. I have an ATI x1600 (ATI Technologies Inc M56GL [Mobility FireGL V5200]) on a Thinkpad t60p (2007-AD1). X typicaly uses right around 1GB of virtual memory - but xrestop shows a /total/ of 120MB in pixmaps in 61 clients - compiz has about 22MB, as does Firefox 3.0.17. Please let me know what else I can do. I'd love to have X run in just 300MB at this point (though, yes, 50MB would be oh- so-nice).
