[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 494448] Re: X11 server randomly crashes after gdm upgrade
Gilles, looking at this again, at this time I don't think we can do anything even with a full backtrace from Karmic, since Lucid will anyway be close by the time we could have fixed this bug. So what would actually help is if you could test Lucid and get a full backtrace from there if the bug is still present there. -- X11 server randomly crashes after gdm upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/494448 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Thank you for reporting this bug, Brian. Take a look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze for more information about this kind of bug and especially how to get a batchbuffer dump. Other things that would be useful is disabling any OpenGL stuff and also try some newer and older mainline kernels from http://kernel.ubuntu.com /~kernel-ppa/mainline/ (see also https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/MainlineBuilds) to see if any of them stop the freezes. -- [G35] Screen Goes Black With i915 GPU Hung Render Errors https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/509186 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 510004] [NEW] [lucid regression] strange resume from suspend to RAM
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: pm-utils On this laptop, resume from suspend to RAM barely works under Lucid, while it works flawlessly under Jaunty. These are the most salient aberrations: 1) The display comes back in a strange pattern of random colors and characters. It looks like the display is in console mode, but the screen saver seems to be active, since if I type in my password I will later find the display unlocked. 2) To actually get to a sane display, I have found that switching between a few virtual consoles will eventually do the trick. If I did not blindly type in my password earlier on, I will now see the screen saver's password prompt. 3) When I finally get back to Gnome, I find that the desktop background has changed to an irregular black-and-white pattern. 4) After resume, the machine thinks it is running on battery, so the display is dimmed to the lowest setting, and the battery icon is displayed. I don't find this behavior acceptable, especially since the same function used to work perfectly on the same hardware in an earlier OS version. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 510036] [NEW] External screens not handled correctly
Public bug reported: Something has changed which makes it impossible to change correctly between different external screens. If I boot without any external screen and then connect one, it is recognised correctly. (In fact, it's switched on as soon as I select the screen setting dialogue, and the window for the setting appears in the new screen, which is not so good, in case there is something wrong with the screen itself.) If I switch off the external screen and re-enter the screen dialogue I only see the laptop screen, which is fine. However, if I then connect a different external screen it seems to be identified as the first screen I connected, and the available resolutions are not correct. xrandr gives the same result. I also see many errors in syslog saying unable to read EDID block and no EDID data. Switching from kernel 2.6.31-17 to 2-6-28-17 the touchpad does not work. However, I can log in and use the stylus for input (tablet pc). In this case, the external screens are identified correctly if I switch between them. So it seems my hardware works OK. (Perhaps I have some odd setting. I recently ran scratchbox and Xephyr for the first time, and I had to explicitly specify the DISPLAY to bluetooth-applet since no applet appeared on the screen. However, I didn't willingly change any settings for X and the desktop, and bluteooth-applet works fine now without any intervention.) I tried following the command specified just below this form to report this bug (which I noticed just as I was about to submit), i.e. ubuntu- bug -p xserver-xorg-core. However ubuntu-bug it tells me that the commands -p/-P are deprecated, so I'll just submit, hoping the automatically collected information will suffice. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 510311] [NEW] Touchscreen working on Lucid Alpha 2, Breaks with Recent Upgrades
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Not sure if this is a Xorg bug, a HAL bug, a devicekit bug or a kernel bug, but here goes: When I installed Kubuntu Lucid Alpha 2 (alternate cd) on my Dell Latitude XT my touchscreen worked without any configuration (at least mouse movement and clicking). It worked the next day after reboot, but after upgrading all packages on Monday the 18'th and rebooting the touchscreen no longer works. I'm guessing this has something to do with the removal of HAL, but the thing that has me curious is that the touchscreen still seems to be registering in both /dev/input/mouse1 and /dev/input/mice. Despite this (and the touchpad, pointer nipple and usb mouse all working) it just doesn't seem to influence the cursor at all. By the way, by working I'm only referring to using the screen in single touch, mouse mode, not n-trig's multitouch (although I'm looking forward to getting that working eventually :) Thought I should let you guys know as the touchscreens are fairly unusual technology rapidly becoming more popular. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 380741] Re: fn+f8 swich from trackpad to touchpad broken on thinkpad
I can say that the Fn+F8 Button works on my new set up Lenovo ThinkPad T60 with Karmic (64bit). The function is that the thouchpad is switched on or off. The trackpoint always works. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 475429] Re: [i945] Intel 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller Freezes when compiz enabled
I recently upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 and experienced the same freezing with the same video hardware. However, I switched the window manager to metacity, and then continued with research on compiz. When I would run compiz --replace, there were a multitude of errors listed because it could not find /usr/lib/libdecorations.so.0. When I looked at the files installed by the package libdecorations0 on my machine, it showed that /usr/lib/libdecorations.so.0 was not there. I found a different ubuntu karmic distribution package for libdecorations0 and installed it manually. It did have the file and installed it correctly. I then re- ran compiz --replace and it is working fine, no freeze (its only been a few hours though). In doing research about Karmic, there was mention of adding a kernel option i915.modeset=1, so i set that too. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 451518] Re: [i945G] karmic: INFO: task i915/* blocked for more than 120 seconds.
Adrian, we treat bugs on different chipsets as different bugs unless proven otherwise. If I remember correctly, the Q35 is similar to the 965G, but it is quite different from 945G and in the vast majority of the cases bugs on one chipset does not translate to another (even though they may have the exact same symptoms). I missed the fact that you had another chipset when I wrote the comment above. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 445056] Re: [i945] (UXA) Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2772] (rev 02) freezes
Marco, the main point of downgrading is not to find a better version of mesa, but to try to identify when in the development cycle the problems were introduced. So I wouldn't worry about the Blender behaviour -- we know that a lot of bug in the Jaunty version of mesa that were affecting blender has been fixed in the Karmic version. The freeze is a bit more worrying, but if there is a very noticeable difference in how often the system freezes with mesa 7.5, we may still be able to find the point where it went from almost good to bad with respect to the freezes. What we want is to be able to tell the upstream developers that when they changed this or that, the frequent freezes appeared. Usually, identifying that is half the work of resolving the bug. There is another confirmation at bug 450853 that downgrading to mesa 7.5 helps. The next step is to try and do some bisecting to find the bad commit. I will come back to that. -- [i945] (UXA) Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2772] (rev 02) freezes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445056 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 475429] Re: [i945] Intel 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller Freezes when compiz enabled
g_jensen, thank you for investigating this and sharing your results. I think the libdecoration0 problem is different from the one reported here, though. This is since libdecoration0 is a compiz library, and this problem has been reported even without compiz when other OpenGL programs are used. Looking at the lists of files at http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/libdecoration0, it seems that all packages contain the file /usr/lib/libdecoration.so.0 (not libdecorations.so.0, but I assume you misspelled it since you misspelled the package name). Thank you for the update, Steve. I'm closing this. I have had one user confirm that his i945 freezes continue under Lucid (bug 475429) and two Karmic users with i945 confirm that downgrading mesa to 7.5 helps.
