[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 510004] Re: [lucid regression] random graphics effects after resume from suspend to RAM
** Summary changed: - [lucid regression] strange resume from suspend to RAM + [lucid regression] random graphics effects after resume from suspend to RAM ** Description changed: - Binary package hint: pm-utils - On this laptop, resume from suspend to RAM barely works under Lucid, while it works flawlessly under Jaunty. These are the most salient aberrations: 1) The display comes back in a strange pattern of random colors and characters. It looks like the display is in console mode, but the screen saver seems to be active, since if I type in my password I will later find the display unlocked. 2) To actually get to a sane display, I have found that switching between a few virtual consoles will eventually do the trick. If I did not blindly type in my password earlier on, I will now see the screen saver's password prompt. 3) When I finally get back to Gnome, I find that the desktop background has changed to an irregular black-and-white pattern. 4) After resume, the machine thinks it is running on battery, so the display is dimmed to the lowest setting, and the battery icon is displayed. I don't find this behavior acceptable, especially since the same function used to work perfectly on the same hardware in an earlier OS version. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 510004] Re: [lucid regression] random graphics effects after resume from suspend to RAM
I doubt that this problem is related to the nvidia driver. I tested a suspend from the virtual terminal (stopped X and unloaded the nvidia module) - after resume, the monitor is black with some white rectangles but switches to standby soon. Switching to a vt with ctrl-alt-f* does not work. Rebooting the system with ctrl-alt-del works, though. I have this problem on my desktop and notebook computer - both have a nvidia card (but different ones). So maybe it is hardware related, but not the the nvidia-binary driver itself. Suspend/resume worked on both system without any problems in the last couple of Ubuntu releases. ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: pm-utils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [lucid regression] random graphics effects after resume from suspend to RAM https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/510004 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 515498] [NEW] lucid lynx xorg resume from suspend colored blocks nonresponsive
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg testing Lucid Lynx on a Dell Latitude D630 laptop. It worked fine with Karmic Koala (except for the 'goes into suspend immediately after coming out of suspend, which was fixed about a week ago), but it will not come out of suspend successfully any more. X shows a black background with large pixels of color, similar to a Commodore Vic 20 screen. It does not respond to any keystrokes (ctrl-alt-f1) and forces me to power-cycle it to reboot. Upon reboot everything is normal. I tried putting it in suspend by closing the laptop lid and also by clicking the power icon then selecting Suspend and had the same result. Will try `pm-suspend` after I submit this and will follow up if it is any different. If I don't follow-up, assume it froze upon resume again. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 515737] [NEW] xrandr automatically enables VGA1 output
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg When I plug in an external monitor into my laptop's VGA port, I often want to first query that monitor's EDID information, and then enable the VGA output using a particular mode based on that EDID information. For example, I might want to enable exactly the 1024x768 mode if a projector supports it, or the 640x480 mode if it doesn't. Or, I might have a script that runs from udev whenever a VGA hotplug event is signaled, and the script wants to figure out what monitor is plugged in first, and then based on some heuristics, figure out what screen configuration I want (e.g. one EDID value indicates my office monitor, which should go above my laptop screen, and another EDID value indicates my home monitor, which should go on the logical left). Unfortunately, the xrandr command (or, more precisely, xrandr --prop) enables the VGA1 output in addition to listing information about the currently connected outputs. It would be great if there were an option to query EDID information without causing any side-effects. As is, this results in double flickering (first, when xrandr decides to enable some default configuration, and second, when I manually, or my script automatically, chooses a more appropriate mode to use). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 395932] Re: [i855] No Xv support for 82852/855GM (KMS bug)
This bug is still valid on Lucid. Since it's a LTS, and given the number of people owning Intel cards, I think it'll be nice a backport of the kernel patches needed to fix this bug. Playing a video in Totem with a resolution above 640x480 hogs my CPU at 100% and makes anything larger unwatchable. (P4 2.4GHz here, YMMV). Sorry for the spam: by the way, my system doesn't boot in Lucid with nomodeset anymore (Playmouth related? It just hangs on a black screen before starting Xorg), so no workaround is present at the moment. -- [i855] No Xv support for 82852/855GM (KMS bug) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/395932 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 267269] Re: system GUI turn upside down when visual effects changed from none to normal
Nvidia drivers related software (nvidia configurators) change settings for Intel drivers. And so tell the xorg-intel driver the wrong info. For all NONE-Nvidia PCs, easy to fix: If you have simple-ccsm (Simple Compizconfig settings manager) installed: (if not install ccsm or compizconfig-settings-manager) 1st right-click on your PC Desktop, use Tab to select, left-click on Change Desktop Background. Use Tab again select Visual Effects tab, use Tab key once again select None. (Upside down mirrored is difficult to read or select by mouse. Tab will indicate where you are in a menu). The Desktop will right itself. Then use Synaptic Package Manager (or the Terminal, for those who know how) purge all Nvidia programs, refresh (apt-get update), it may be a good idea to reinstall your particular Video card software which will set configuration back to where it should have been. Then restart compiz select your level of Visual Effects. Problem solved! Perhaps the Ubuntu Masters may build a fail-save, so that wrong video info can not corrupt configs. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 497149] Re: Packages using DKMS should make use of /usr/lib/dkms/common.postinst
I noticed while putting together an updated package for bcmwl that the template postinst does exit $? after running common.postinst, which skips the rest of the package postinst including any autogenerated #DEBHELPER# scripts. Mario, can I get you to review this patch, which fixes that and does some additional cleanup of the template postinst? ** Patch added: dkms-template-postinst-cleanup.patch http://launchpadlibrarian.net/38646154/dkms-template-postinst-cleanup.patch -- Packages using DKMS should make use of /usr/lib/dkms/common.postinst https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/497149 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
