[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org prior to release 7.5
This has nothing to do with closed source drivers. This bug only occurs with Compiz enables, which the Nouveau drivers do not support, so they are an invalid test case. As stated before in this bug numerous times, this worked fine in 8.10 with all closed source drivers that supported Compiz. The upgrade to 9.04 broke this. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 416073] Re: [i965] [karmic][GM965] low intel graphics performance - again
Very strange, now I have reinstalled updates from xorg-edgers again and indeed found slight improvement of the performance! Maybe thanks to the newer version of mesa. Synaptic says mesa is 7.8.0 now (was 1.6.0), Intel driver is 2.10.0 (was 2.9.0), xserver-xorg-core is 1.6.5 (was 1.6.4). However, the performance improvement is small - Tux racer now says 18-22 FPS rather than 15-20. But at least Euphoria screensaver does not flicker now, as it was constantly doing since Jaunty. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 301958] Re: [needs-packaging] no working driver for sis 671/771 video cards
Hi My driver is a repackaging of the Winischofer driver for both Jaunty and Karmic. It is working 100% on my laptop, either with the integrated lcd (1280x800) or with an external monitor. But I heard that there are cases of difficult coordination between the lcd and the external monitor. I have 256k allocated to the video (shared memory) and not that the hardware is not dual-head, so don't count on different resolutions on the lcd and the external monitor, the other day i hooked an old 15 just to make sure and immediately lcd resolution was at 1024x768 after reboot. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 517162] [NEW] gnome-display-properties side-by-side monitor configuration does not work
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Using gnome-display-properties, I configure my monitor setup to have the laptop screen on the left and the attached external monitor on the right. The external monitor does not receive a signal in this configuration. Repeated presses of Fn+F10 (this laptop's display hotkey) will cycle through five xrandr configurations, but none result in the desired side- by-side configuration. Occasionally, but not always, a mirror setup will work. It will usually work if I set the display configuration to side-by-side, close gnome- display-properties, and then cycle through the settings by pressing Fn+F10. Debug information attached. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 508456] [NEW] Lucid frequently crashes while starting gdm on Averatec 3280
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: upstart I installed Lucid alpha-1 and have been updating frequently through today. As of sometime yesterday (15 Jan 2010) it usually crashes during the boot process - usually as gdm is starting, showing a rotating mouse pointer. The pointer stops rotating and the system seems to totally freeze, with no disk activity. If I select the 2.6.32-9-generic kernel instead, the system will boot all the way, but then I see the X screen problem described in Bug #495553. (Note that the tty display problem described in that bug still exists). If I select booting into recovery mode, and log in as root, I can start gdm (That is how I got this system running just now). Note also that I see that other daemons, such as ssh and apache2 have not started either - I have to start them manually. Also, the virtual screen used for text display in recovery mode is too big, so that lines I enter are off the screen, so I have to fly blind - enter commands and password without seeing what I type. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456902] Re: [i845G] Karmic stops responding a few minutes after log in
Apparently there's a generic X memory corruption bug triggered by the x11perf command I gave (I can crash Xephyr with it). When X crashes out rather than freezing, it's because of that. So it turns out this isn't a good test of the driver. I did witness freezing in some scenarios with this command: x11perf -range srect10,srect500 -time 1 -repeat 1 And I was not able to observe any memory corruption with the above command, only the freezing. So this is a better test. Robbielink, no regressions have been reported so far with 2.8.0-8-g12c5aec. There was a report of a crash with the earlier x11perf command, but it turns out that isn't caused by the driver. It's an X bug that randomly may or may not trigger. -- [i845G] Karmic stops responding a few minutes after log in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/456902 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 517276] [NEW] 2:1.7.3.902-1ubuntu10 crashes for me, up to -ubuntu9 it worked
Public bug reported: Using Lucid amd64, after today's updates my PC crashes after 1-2 minutes of usage. Downgrading xserver-xorg-core and xserver-common to 2:1.7.3.902-1ubuntu9 worked fine for me. I also tried with the daily-live 20100203 and I got the same problem. I tried with the nvidia, nv, and the failsafe (vesa) drivers. Symptoms vary: Sometimes X crashes and I get to gdm. Sometimes I see corruption on the top of the screen, like terminal consoles drawn in the wrong bit-plane in the video ram. Sometimes the kernel hangs, caps lock is flashing, and ping/REISUB do not work. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 365885] Re: random x server freeze (nvidia)
I am encountering input problems with the Nvidia ---185 driver on my laptop. The symptoms are not exactly like those described by others on this thread. The mouse moves the graphics cursor, but pressing a mouse button has no effect. Most keyboard input still works. For example to shutdown an app I can Alt-F, use the up and down arrows to select the quit item, and then press Enter to select the item. However the Ctl-Q shortcut does NOT work. Ctl-Alt-F1 switches to the console. But since I am a newbie I don't know what I should do in the console. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 517381] [NEW] Screen resolution sporadicly dropping to 800x600 when the GDM is started
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg The screen resolution sporadicly drops to 800x600x60 rather than 1024x768x75 when the GDM is started. After logging in there are no other resolution options available. My wife's fix has been to login and log back out. My fix has been to restart the GDM daemon via a CLI session. If there is anything I can do to help resolve this, please let me know. BTW, I have another Dell computer and monitor doing the same thing with an older version of Ubuntu, I'll try to add a bug report for that one soon.
