[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456902] Re: [i845G] Karmic stops responding a few minutes after log in

2010-02-04 Thread Gitty K
I also tried the x11perf command, but didn't get any crash. Also, this
time I didn't get logged out.

I'm realizing that I may not run compiz but metacity, not sure, I had
fiddled with that much earlier when I tried to prevent the freezes. Does
that make any difference?

2010-02-04 Thread Thomas Schweikle
OK. Did it. Output is completely distorted. Screen updates are not done
while scrolling. Typing this blindly most of the time, because
characters are not drawn --- only the cursor is moving. i have to
minimize the windows, then restore it again to have a look at what I
where typing...

Context-Menues are drawn transparent ...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org prior to release 7.5

2010-02-04 Thread Dan Burke
This has nothing to do with closed source drivers. This bug only occurs
with Compiz enables, which the Nouveau drivers do not support, so they
are an invalid test case.

As stated before in this bug numerous times, this worked fine in 8.10
with all closed source drivers that supported Compiz. The upgrade to
9.04 broke this. It affects any environment that supports Compiz and
any driver that supports Compiz.

problems. I tried a lot of troubleshooting and the only thing that seems to
help for me is to remove the quiet and splash kernel options. Once I do
that, it boots up fine seems to work okay.

I have a similar problem since upgrading Lucid Alpha 2 to 2.6.32-12.

My system boots to a different virtual terminal which does display the
cursor, I then use CTRL+ALT+F7 to show the login screen. But then my
system just freezes.

My system has also worked fine on all prior Ubuntu versions, and it
still boots fine when using 2.6.32-10.

detected is that the laptop screen fails to supply EDID information.
this results in LCD being detected but with max screen size of 0x0 with
pref 0x0 see xorg entry below:

(--) SIS(0): Detected LCD/Plasma panel (max. X 0 Y 0, pref. 0x0, RGB24)

Xorg then fails to detect any workable screen resmode pool is empty.
I have tried to set HSync/VRefresh and add Modelines but had no luck.

In Windows 7 the LCD Screen is set as a Generic Monitor...EDID Information is
in Registry, it appears that the manufacturer is able to override/fake EDID
information for non-compliant/corrupt EDIDs. If I plug-in an external EDID
Compliant Monitor the Driver works on the external screen but LCD is blank. Is
there away to fake/ignore EDID information like the NVIDIA Driver?

2010-02-04 Thread dfernando
Hello
Got the same problem in kernel 2.6.31-17-generic Karmic with a Dell D630 Laptop.
USing a Dual Screen setup.
My laptop was ok. 1280 X 800
But the VGA was always using 1024x768.

Nothing to do
But, after installing 2.6.32 from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.32-rc4/, the problem is
resolved.
Thx

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 416073] Re: [i965] [karmic][GM965] low intel graphics performance - again

2010-02-04 Thread Roman
Very strange, now I have reinstalled updates from xorg-edgers again and indeed
found slight improvement of the performance! Maybe thanks to the newer version
of mesa. Synaptic says mesa is 7.8.0 now (was 1.6.0), Intel driver is 2.10.0
(was 2.9.0), xserver-xorg-core is 1.6.5 (was 1.6.4).
However, the performance improvement is small - Tux racer now says 18-22 FPS
rather than 15-20. But at least Euphoria screensaver does not flicker now, as
it was constantly doing since Jaunty. Hope this trend will remain in future
versions.

Forgot to mention that tests in the above post and here were done with
compositing (kwin) disabled.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 301958] Re: [needs-packaging] no working driver for sis 671/771 video cards

2010-02-04 Thread Antonio J. de Oliveira
Hi

My driver is a repackaging of the Winischofer driver for both Jaunty
and Karmic. It is working 100% on my laptop, either with the integrated
lcd (1280x800) or with an external monitor. But I heard that there are
cases of difficult coordination between the lcd and the external
monitor. I have 256k allocated to the video (shared memory) and not that
the hardware is not dual-head, so don't count on different resolutions
on the lcd and the external monitor, the other day i hooked an old 15
just to make sure and immediately lcd resolution was at 1024x768 after
reboot.

Chers

Antonio

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 517162] [NEW] gnome-display-properties side-by-side monitor configuration does not work

2010-02-04 Thread Jonathan Kyler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Using gnome-display-properties, I configure my monitor setup to have the
laptop screen on the left and the attached external monitor on the
right.

The external monitor does not receive a signal in this configuration.

Repeated presses of Fn+F10 (this laptop's display hotkey) will cycle
through five xrandr configurations, but none result in the desired side-
by-side configuration.

Occasionally, but not always, a mirror setup will work. It will usually
work if I set the display configuration to side-by-side, close gnome-
display-properties, and then cycle through the settings by pressing
Fn+F10.

Debug information attached.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 301958] Re: [needs-packaging] no working driver for sis 671/771 video cards

2010-02-04 Thread tpurch
Hi Antonio,

To confirmI have tried the driver on the link you provided...(in
fact that was the driver I was trying!) but thanks!

The driver detects the Video Adapter but the integrated LCD panel still
doesn't work. when I try to run X screen flashes several times and ends
up with Mode Pool Empty. The LCD still detected but says max res 0x0
pref 0x0.

Xorg.log reports:
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

I believe that is due to lack of EDID information for the integrated LCD
Screen. Modelines /Modes and HorizSync/VertRefresh lines dont appear to
override it.

here is the output from I from get-edid:

get-edid: get-edid version 2.0.0

Performing real mode VBE call
Interrupt 0x10 ax=0x4f15 bx=0x1 cx=0x0

As I said in my last post if I connect a monitor to VGA port and configure X to
use it - the EDID is detected and screen is configured correctly.

Many thanks for your help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 411294] Re: Resume broken with new ATI stack

2010-02-04 Thread Jeremy Foshee
Frank,
Based on your LSPCI output, I'd say that you would probably be better
served opening a new bug for your specific issue. The fix noted in the upstream
bug was for ATI Mobility X1400 and you appear to have slightly different
hardware.

Alexander,
As the original bug reporter, can you tell us if you are still seeing this
behavior with the upstream kernel?

Thanks in advance,

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 508456] [NEW] Lucid frequently crashes while starting gdm on Averatec 3280

2010-02-04 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: upstart

I installed Lucid alpha-1 and have been updating frequently through
today. As of sometime yesterday (15 Jan 2010) it usually crashes during
the boot process - usually as gdm is starting, showing a rotating mouse
pointer. The pointer stops rotating and the system seems to totally
freeze, with no disk activity.

If I select the 2.6.32-9-generic kernel instead, the system will boot
all the way, but then I see the X screen problem described in Bug
#495553. (Note that the tty display problem described in that bug still
exists).

If I select booting into recovery mode, and log in as root, I can start
gdm (That is how I got this system running just now). Note also that I
see that other daemons, such as ssh and apache2 have not started either
- I have to start them manually. Also, the virtual screen used for text
display in recovery mode is too big, so that lines I enter are off the
screen, so I have to fly blind - enter commands and password without
seeing what I type.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456902] Re: [i845G] Karmic stops responding a few minutes after log in

2010-02-04 Thread Brian Rogers
Apparently there's a generic X memory corruption bug triggered by the
x11perf command I gave (I can crash Xephyr with it). When X crashes out
rather than freezing, it's because of that. So it turns out this isn't a
good test of the driver.

I did witness freezing in some scenarios with this command:
x11perf -range srect10,srect500 -time 1 -repeat 1

And I was not able to observe any memory corruption with the above
command, only the freezing. So this is a better test.

Robbielink, no regressions have been reported so far with
2.8.0-8-g12c5aec. There was a report of a crash with the earlier x11perf
command, but it turns out that isn't caused by the driver. It's an X bug
that randomly may or may not trigger.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 517276] [NEW] 2:1.7.3.902-1ubuntu10 crashes for me, up to -ubuntu9 it worked

2010-02-04 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
Public bug reported:

Using Lucid amd64, after today's updates my PC crashes after 1-2 minutes of
usage.
Downgrading xserver-xorg-core and xserver-common to 2:1.7.3.902-1ubuntu9 worked
fine for me.
I also tried with the daily-live 20100203 and I got the same problem.
I tried with the nvidia, nv, and the failsafe (vesa) drivers.

Symptoms vary:
Sometimes X crashes and I get to gdm.
Sometimes I see corruption on the top of the screen, like terminal consoles
drawn in the wrong bit-plane in the video ram.
Sometimes the kernel hangs, caps lock is flashing, and ping/REISUB do not work.

Dirk,

Thanks but I have tried that. I have also tried other options

i.e.

UseEdidFreqs false
 IgnoreEDID true
NoDDC true

none of which workI assume they are driver dependent, since they
appear to be be used differently between drivers. for example radeon
uses NoDDC nvidia uses UseEDID

I also tried Option useROMData False suggested in one of the posts
on this bug thread. but no joy.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 465317] Re: Xorg assert failure: X: ../../src/i830_batchbuffer.h:79: intel_batch_emit_dword: Assertion `pI830-batch_ptr != ((void *)0)' failed.

2010-02-04 Thread Dave Uggla
The immediate problem (at least with regard to AisleRiot induced
crashes) has been fixed by a patch to libgtk, as referenced in bug
#450832. I can confirm that after this update the apparent growth of
memory assigned to cache in System Monitor while running AisleRiot is
gone and I infer from that that the crashing problem is gone too.

However, as several others have commented in other duplicates and
related bug reports, there is still a question of whether a bug in
libgtk should have been able to cause a segfault in xorg-server itself.

I will leave that question to be answered by more experienced developers

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495553] Re: [K8M800] Screen origin shifted to center, screen wraps, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid with openchrome driver

2010-02-04 Thread Peter Belew
As of Thu Feb 4 14:57:56 PST 2010, after more updates, my screen is now
positioned properly, and console TTYs work ok on this laptop.

I'm enclosing an archive of apt-show-versions output.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 365885] Re: random x server freeze (nvidia)

2010-02-04 Thread James Cobban
I am encountering input problems with the Nvidia ---185 driver on my
laptop. The symptoms are not exactly like those described by others on
this thread.

The mouse moves the graphics cursor, but pressing a mouse button has no
effect.

Most keyboard input still works. For example to shutdown an app I can
Alt-F, use the up and down arrows to select the quit item, and then
press Enter to select the item. However the Ctl-Q shortcut does NOT
work.

Ctl-Alt-F1 switches to the console. But since I am a newbie I don't know
what I should do in the console. The only thing I know is sudo
reboot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 410267] Re: Pressure sensitive tablet: stylus paints off-cursor in Gimp and Inkscape

2010-02-04 Thread kaeru
Does it work for window mode as well?

At least for me in Window mode, for both Inkscape and GIMP with libgtk
2.18.3-1ubuntu2.2 the offset issue is still there.

It doesn't work in Window mode, it's a known issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 517381] [NEW] Screen resolution sporadicly dropping to 800x600 when the GDM is started

2010-02-04 Thread Nathan Hartley
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

The screen resolution sporadicly drops to 800x600x60 rather than
1024x768x75 when the GDM is started. After logging in there are no other
resolution options available. My wife's fix has been to login and log
back out. My fix has been to restart the GDM daemon via a CLI session.

If there is anything I can do to help resolve this, please let me know.

BTW, I have another Dell computer and monitor doing the same thing with
an older version of Ubuntu, I'll try to add a bug report for that one
soon.

2010-02-04 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: compiz

1 - Ubuntu 9.10

2 - Installed Version of xserver-org-video-intel is 2:2.9.0-1ubuntu2.1

3 - When I turn on computer I expect compiz and computer to start
normally

4 - After logging in the computer will work for a few seconds the will
freeze completely, including no response from the keyboard or mouse.
After a hard shutdown and turning off compiz (setting effects to 'none'
in appearance settings) stops the problem

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 517395] [NEW] [lucid][rv620] xorg fails to start without radeon.modeset=0

2010-02-04 Thread Robert Wall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

Lucid fails to start xorg after latest updates. Sometimes, I get a text
login screen, sometimes I just get a screen with an underscore in the
corner and gibberish when I type anything (and have to shutdown with
magic SysRq codes). Everything starts fine if I pass radeon.modeset=0
with GRUB.
