[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 526893] [NEW] xterm wrongly handles Unicode on the prompt when printing text
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xterm xterm misinterpretes some characters and writes junk text to the terminal under the followign conditions: 1. The prompt contains special charachters, in this test case german umlauts 2. The text printed from a command (shell built-in, program, script, etc.) does not end with a line break Steps to reproduce: Start xterm or any terminal emulator relying on it (e.g. gnome- terminal), then create or cd into a directory containing an umlaut (e.g. Ü11). Run a command that generates a one-line output of text, e.g. echo -n Hello. zsh is the login shell, but this is about Bash (running from zsh or native does not matter). The bug is reproducible across multiple hosts, users, environments. It is not related to the shell itself. The bug can be reproduced in Bash, Dash and Csh. The bug does not show when running in a tty, so it *is* X-related. ** Also affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: kdebase (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- xterm wrongly handles Unicode on the prompt when printing text https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/526893 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xterm in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I can confirm the these issues on a Savage Twister card, trying out a fresh installation of the Lucid alpha-3 candidate. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 520046] Re: [Karmic] X freezes when attaching external monitor
I have compiled the new xserver-xorg-video-intel (ubuntu Lucid package, based on 2.9.1) and installed it on my system, but that does not solve the problem. So if the underlying issue is in the driver, it will still be there in Lucid. Are there changes to xserver that may alleviate the problem? Did you have a look at my logfiles, batch buffer dump? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 526919] [NEW] [Karmic] X crash due to xsetroot in startkde after recent update
Public bug reported: This report is based on a bug hunt I did on a system maintained by ~ericbouer. Apparently the system was setup about a week ago and after some recent update, login was never successful and always resulted in an immediate bounce back to KDM. After a lot of investigation it became apparent that xsetroot -cursor_name left_ptr as part of the startkde script was causing a X crash. However, the command itself could not be used to reproduce the crash, it seems as if only the preceding commands in startkde make it a deadly one. Removing aforementioned line prevents the crash, re-adding it makes the crash again 100% reproducible. Reinstalling x11-xserver-utils, which contains xsetroot, did also not improve the situation. Only removing xsetroot from startkde makes logins possible again. Attached to this report you find: * gdb-Xorg.txt - backtrace per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing X started with -dumbSched, otherweise trace were unsuccessful * .xsession-errors of two different users, in one the xprop commands in startkde were commented out (which turned out to not improve the situation) * Xorg.0.log, Xorg.0.log.old, kdm.log, dpkg.log * Output of dmesg and lspci -vvk ** Affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [Karmic] X crash due to xsetroot in startkde after recent update https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/526919 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 511001] Re: [i855] Lucid Freeze shortly after X startup
Great! I'd like to send it upstream to the intel developers now and see if they can get some useful information out of the batchbuffer dump. I just wonder, which kernel exactly do you mean by 2.6.33-999? Is it from the drm-intel git tree, from Linus' git tree, from [1], or somewhere else? The patch (but v7) was applied to the drm-intel tree (head intel- drm-next) two days ago [2], but if you grabbed it before then it wouldn't have been there. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 520046] Re: [Karmic] X freezes when attaching external monitor
Some more tests show that the problem is most likely in the 'DRI' subsystem; if I add 'option DRI Off' to my /etc/X11/xorg.conf, the switching works. I also tried NoMTRR and AIGLX Off, as suggested here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze, but that doesn't help. 'DRI' seems to be the main culprit. Also, the problem only occurs when switching using the 'Display' tool in System/Preferences (i.e. when X is running). If the monitor is connecting before logging in (during boot or during the process of logging out and going to the login screen), the external monitor is activated automatically and keeps working when X starts. -- [Karmic] X freezes when attaching external monitor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/520046 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456902] Re: [i845G] Karmic stops responding a few minutes after log in
These boxes are all booting with nomodeset=1 kernel parameters and 1024x768 forced in xorg.conf anyway, per bug 522488. 12:2.7.0 is a doozy! Freezes in the customary fashion before even making it to the desktop (these boxes are all set to auto-login) on four tries out of five so far, 15 seconds after on the fifth try. Kind of amusing to watch the spinning throbber cursor stop spinning but keep moving with the mouse. I'm reinstalling 2.8.0 on the 2.7.0 test box. I won't be at the school playing with these for the next few days, unfortunately. -- [i845G] Karmic stops responding a few minutes after log in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/456902 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
