[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 308191] Re: Multi fingers touch doesn't be correctly recognized

2010-03-22 Thread Dana Goyette
I've discovered something new (on another laptop):
By installing these drivers on my non-multi-finger-capable laptop, I've
obtained multi-finger support:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/19/synaptics-driver-enables-multitouch-gestures-on-older-trackpads/
I had initially thought it had upgraded my touchpad firmware... but when I
booted Linux again, it went right back to single-finger-only.
It seems the Windows drivers must be doing some runtime-only patching of the
device firmware.
Now, we just need to figure out how to do the same thing in Linux.

Anyway, this means that the Windows drivers showing real multi-finger do
not necessarily mean the touchpad firmware originally supports multi-
finger detection.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541501] Re: [lucid] [LENOVO T60] external screen display shows shivering, horizontal refresh offset

line (not at the same time as the radeon.modeset=0 request above) to see
if it fixes the issue also?

** Description changed:

As described, the external display shows massive horizontal offsetting
(shivering of some sort) between lines. See
  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Ky9Yk3pNuI

2010-03-22 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Although the logs apport automatically attaches contain lots of useful
information, we also need some sort of idea what happens to trigger the
problem you've reported.

From the logs, it looks like this has happened while your laptop is in
the process of suspending. Did this error report pop up after resuming
from suspend? If so, do you suspend your laptop by shutting the lid -
this bug could be bug #535640.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 267269] Re: system GUI turn upside down when visual effects changed from none to normal

2010-03-22 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
This is caused by having the nvidia proprietary drivers installed. They
replace libGL with a version that doesn't work for Intel (or radeon),
and produces the strange inverted display you see.

If you haven't deliberately installed the nvidia drivers then this was
probably caused by a bug in a previous version of the mplayer packaging,
which would incorrectly cause the nvidia drivers to be installed.

2010-03-22 Thread Robert Hooker
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

I have two days ago attached an external TFT monitor to my HP Compaq
nx6115 notebook. The monitor is Viewsonic VA1912. I set up dual displays
  using System-Preferences-Display as a mirror.

I have noticed that the external viewsonic monitor suddenly goes blank
and the display stops working. A message pops up saying No signal. The
notebook display however, is working fine.

On the two occassions that this has happened, I was using the mouse. In
the first instance, some link in Firefox and in the recent incident, a
  mail header in thunderbird.

as Xorg.0.log.old shows there seems to have been some problem with X
(ddxSigGiveup) which made the second monitor go blank.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 341741] Re: New characters in Lao keymap

2010-03-22 Thread Arne Goetje
ok, so the new keyboard layout looks a bit different than what we
currently have. It's not just exchanging two letters, but a few more.
The current layout doesn't even follow the old Typewriter layout, but
seems to be an individual layout used by some group of people in Laos...
I thnk the best way to deal with this is to make a new alternate layout
and let the user choose. Also, I would like to hear from the local
community in Laos, which layout they prefer as primary choice.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 308191] Re: Multi fingers touch doesn't be correctly recognized

2010-03-22 Thread Michael Mulqueen
Just confirming that this is still a problem for me on Lucid (no
multi-touch whatever I do). At least now though,
gnome-mouse-properties has 2 finger scroll greyed out. When I called
up gsynaptics, it had Enable Touchpad unchecked and checking it and
closing gsynaptics had no observable effects.

@Dana Goyette
I believe the synaptics driver has software emulation of multi touch
(for single touch devices), for some reason it isn't working on
certain pads. This is probably not because they were never supported,
because it seems that some people had it working on earlier versions

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 490811] Re: mesa-common-dev should depend on libdrm-dev

2010-03-22 Thread Ilkka Laukkanen
Actually it seems to be an issue in other scenarios as well: I couldn't
get pkg-config to give me cflags or libs for one specific library, even
though that library's dependencies were fully satisfied, and I was
mystified until I tried running pkg-config --list-all and saw the
error message pertaining to a missing drm.pc. After installing libdrm-
dev, everything worked fine. So this can affect other people as well.
Besides, at the end of the day, isn't this still a broken package that
should get fixed?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 543996] [NEW] [i845] GPU lockup bff422d6

2010-03-22 Thread f00fyf00fer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Received this error upon boot. System was just cold booted due to a
lockup. I had been clicking through screen savers to pick one, the
screen went black and stopped sending video (monitor light went amber).
Only way out was a cold boot, and as mentioned earlier I got the popup
upon boot after.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 494699] Re: Does not support current Lucid kernel (2.6.32) or xserver (1.7)

2010-03-22 Thread Sandro Mani
@mattrenfer
The open-source driver has yet to mature especially in the 3D area, currently
you won't get full performance. Since AMD decided to ditch support for older
graphic-cards in their binary driver, you'll have to wait a while until the
open driver gets optimized.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 543996] Re: [i845] GPU lockup bff422d6

2010-03-22 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 541492 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541492

Thank you for reporting this bug and describing what happened before it
(we often miss that information). At the moment, there are known
problems of this kind upstream with i845 and i855. For the time being we
are marking all these as duplicates and when upstream has a fix, we can
test and see if any of the bugs are not solved by that fix and
unduplicate those. So I'm marking this as duplicate of bug 541492 for
now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 543045] Re: [RV530] screen flickers in lucid lynx

2010-03-22 Thread Joachim Haga
I see corruption on X1400 with external VGA screen (Thinkpad T60),
possibly the same issue? The corruption looks like every other line is
offset by a few (up to 10 or so) pixels, like a badly interlaced movie,
and the amount of offset moves in waves. For me, this is fixed by
changing (in Display Settings / xrandr) to the internal screen and then
back. The display is then fine until next reboot.

I tried setting radeon.new_pll=0; this did not fix the issue, but it
changed the appearance of the corruption somewhat (smaller offset
perhaps? And no longer every second line, but maybe two and two lines).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 391215] Re: vga=791 kernel line option breaks tty consoles

2010-03-22 Thread u-foka
Hy!

I did some testing around this:
Lucid Beta1 livecd, vga=792: proper 1024x768 console and graphical boot
Lucid up2date install, vga=792: proper 1024x768 console and graphical boot
Lucid Beta1 livecd, vga=865: proper 1280x800 console and graphical boot
Lucid up2date install, vga=865: like without the vga parameter (low res
console, and text boot)

I'm listed the loaded modules when the livecd loaded and with the vga
parameter it uses vesafb correctly instead of nouveau as expected...

So why can vesafb work on 1280x800 with the livecd, and can't on the installed
system?
And why can vesafb work on 1024x768, and can't on 1280x800 on the installed

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 480521] Re: Video does not scale up to window/screen

2010-03-22 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Craig,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with
the latest development release of Ubuntu? (ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/)

If it remains an issue, could you also attach a new /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
Thanks in advance.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

bug if that fixes it :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 538648] Re: Problem with X in Lucid on Lenovo T500

2010-03-22 Thread Chris Jones
I've just marked bug #534894 as a dupe of this one, since that too is filed
against the intel package and describes infrequent flickering that is comprised
of extremely brief corruption of part of the screen. I think we're also all
running fairly recent Intel chips.
To quickly re-mention a comment I added to the dupe bug:

[09:18] Sarvatt tell them to boot with i915.powersave=0 and mention in the
bug if that fixes it :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541501] Re: [RV515] [LENOVO T60] external screen display shows shivering, horizontal refresh offset

2010-03-22 Thread Mathieu Trudel
Thanks, will try this now and report back on the results for each case
(new_pll and modeset at 0, individually, and attaching logs). In the
interest of full disclosure, I may only have this hardware available to
me until the end of the week, so I might not be able to offer more
testing past that point.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 544131] [NEW] System returns to login screen on resume from suspend i965gm GPU lockup 91905fb7

2010-03-22 Thread Luke HW
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Hardware: Macbook 4,1
After updating to the Lucid Lynx Beta 1, the system no longer suspends and
resumes correctly. When the lid is closed, the backlight goes off nearly
instantly, usually an indicator that it has successfully suspended, which
before the update took as long as ten seconds to do. On opening the lid
however, the system hangs for ten to fifteen seconds and then presents the
graphical login screen. Logging in occasionally presents an error dialogue
claiming that the power applet is still running and presents cancel log out
and continue anyway as options, with cancel hanging the system and requiring
a hard reset. A quick search for fixes suggested updating the nvidia graphics
drivers, which was followed through to no noticeable effect.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541501] Re: [RV515] [LENOVO T60] external screen display shows shivering, horizontal refresh offset

2010-03-22 Thread Mathieu Trudel
It ends up that 'radeon.new_pll=0' didn't really change the behavior.
The screen seemed to flicker just as much.

Bryce, 'radeon.modeset=0' really did cause the problem to completely
disappear. Note that this behavior was new from at most a couple of
weeks ago, at the beginning of March this system was running fine with
modesetting enabled and no flickering.

Attached is the Xorg.0.log when modesetting is disabled.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 494699] Re: Does not support current Lucid kernel (2.6.32) or xserver (1.7)

2010-03-22 Thread madbiologist
@danube - I couldn't load that page either. Got a message stating Not
allowed here Sorry, you don't have permission to access this page. You
are logged in as madbiologist., which I though was a bit odd, given I
can access the pages about other packages. I might file a bug about
that later.

Anyway, the solution is to log out first and then go to that page.
