[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org prior to release 7.5
I'm pretty sure that when the bug first appeared (in Jaunty) I was running the same version of nvidia's drivers in both Intrepid and Jaunty, and Intrepid didn't have the problem. Note it's not just the nvidia driver that has a problem - VirtualBox's video driver also doesn't refresh the screen. In fact, with the current Lucid running in a VM, you don't even get the initial screen being drawn - I get either a black screen or the purple background coming through. Disabling X damage has no effect. -- Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org prior to release 7.5 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/353126 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 486502] Re: [fglrx karmic] Black screen and no response after starting X (Radeon HD3870)
I do-release-upgraded to 64-bit Lucid, and brand new fglrx release exhibits same symptoms here (Xorg 100% CPU, blank screen, and the Xorg.log stopping exactly at the same point as the submitter's one), on a HD5770 w/ 1GB VRAM, and 5 GB of main memory. It leads to unkillable Xorg, only resort seems to be rebooting. One more remark: I haven't really had time to delve further on this issue, but from the looks of it on the web (Googling around, and on various scattered forums, i.e ubuntuforums, phoronix.com, etc), it seems exclusive to 64-bit setups, especially with large amounts of RAM and recent models of Radeons (HD3xxx and upwards). Someone seemed to point to MTRR as culprit, based on past problems with other (Intel or older ATi) cards (and also based on successes after manually fixing MTRR mapping). -- [fglrx karmic] Black screen and no response after starting X (Radeon HD3870) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/486502 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550124] [NEW] Overlay causing excessive cpu usage on Xorg process using ATI cards
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Hi I have an ATI Radeon 2600 HD. I am finding when ever I am using overlay with the ATI card that I can getting drastic system slowdowns. This can be seen using top on my system. A good example of this slowdown can be seen using gtk-recordmydesktop. The preview panel that appears in that app will slow the system down and xorg gets over active at that point and then you will not realy be able to make a recording as the cpu is maxed out. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg This can be reproduced using compiz. Please enable the water effect and put in onto a rain delay of 500 (shift+F9). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 548956] [NEW] Screen randomly blanks with a not optimum mode monitor message
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Just updated to 10.04 on an Asus Pundit-R machine running an ATI 9100 IGP graphics chip. On two occasions since upgrading via the update manager yesterday, the following has happened: * Logged into a standard gnome session running at 1680x1050 on a Samsung 226BW 22 TFT connected via VGA * Several hours of light use (web, email etc.) * Using a desktop app (mail client and a file browser) * Screen spontaneously blanks * Monitor displays a floating message saying Not Optimum Mode. Recommended mode 1670x1050 60Hz. To resolve I pressed Alt + F4 to switch to a console (or logged in remotely via ssh) and restarted GDM to return to the login screen. Naturally, all state and work on the desktop is lost. I've attached the output of apport just after this happened. As a likely related aside, the DVI output doesn't seem to drive the monitor any more (the monitor just sits there searching for a signal once the machine is past POST) - DVI output worked fine in 9.10 but has since stopped in 10.04. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: blank lucid resolution screen xorg -- Screen randomly blanks with a not optimum mode monitor message https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/548956 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

You have been subscribed to a public bug: My PC specs is Intel E5300, 2GB DDR2 Dual, Gigabyte G31M-ES2C, VGA onboard G31 and CRT monitor 17'. I downloaded Ubuntu 10.04 desktop i386 Beta 1. I burned it into a cd, and when i boot from cd and choose live cd, i see a boot splash. After about 45s, i don't see anything on screen, and my screen show a small text No Signal 5 4 3 2 1... (mean no signal from pc to monitor). But, after 5m, i press power button, and after about 15s, cd tray is eject, when i press enter, the cd tray is close, and computer power is off. Second, i boot from cd and choose install with out use live cd (or other), after boot splash, i don't see anything, too (above). I never seen anything like this in Ubuntu 8.04, 8.10, 9.04, 9.10, Debian and WinXP/Vista/7. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 527832] Re: [Lucid] Ubiquity shuts off my monitor during the startup to live environment
This problem has not been fixed as of lucid beta or the March 28 daily lucid build (I just tested both with the same result as before). The issue seems to affect users with LCD TV's (and possibly nvidia video cards) but the bug disapears when one plugs in their computer to an LCD monitor. Considering that many people have LCD TV's (and nvidia video cards) and that those users OS's are incapacitated by the bug, should the bug be marked as critical under the bug level definitions? See Bug #545648 for more info. If there is any way I can help please let me know because Ubuntu Lucid does not work at all on my system because of this bug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550410] [NEW] Intel Arrandale Video Corruption (Unusable)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel I have a Sony Vaio VPCZ1 with an Intel Core i7, Intel Arrandale GMA HD and nVidia GT330M graphics. I have tried both the Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Beta 1 and the latest daily build (3/28, AMD64). When booting with the nVidia card selected, I get a black screen and a crash. When booting with the Intel card, I get a visible screen, however it is severely corrupted and unusable (Please see attached image). In Ubuntu 9.10, trying to use the Intel card results in a black screen with a few yellow vertical wavy lines and a hard crash. If I boot with the nomodeset option, the computer will boot properly but X refuses to load the Intel driver due to lack of KMS. The VESA driver functions properly albeit at low resolution. Please let me know if any additional information would be helpful.
