I just tested with the 10.04 beta 1 live cd (without enabling the
proprietary nvidia driver); the bug still occurs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org prior to release 7.5

2010-03-28 Thread Rocko
I'm pretty sure that when the bug first appeared (in Jaunty) I was
running the same version of nvidia's drivers in both Intrepid and
Jaunty, and Intrepid didn't have the problem.

Note it's not just the nvidia driver that has a problem - VirtualBox's
video driver also doesn't refresh the screen. In fact, with the current
Lucid running in a VM, you don't even get the initial screen being drawn
- I get either a black screen or the purple background coming through.
Disabling X damage has no effect.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org prior to release 7.5

2010-03-28 Thread Christian Felsing
Following problem occures with xorg 7.4 and 7.5 but does not appear in xorg
7.3: If a virtualbox guest has focus and Gnome screensaver locks screen and
user unlocks screen then, Virtualbox guest does not accepts keyboard entries.
After minimizing and restoring the Virtualbox window keyboard input is possible.
This behaviour does not depend on NVidia driver, this happens with ATI Catalyst
driver, also. Same problem was reported with Intel graphics based PC.

Changing the double click timeout seemed to work as expected for actual
double-clicks, but unfortunately it didn't stop single clicks as
sometimes behaving as double (even if I leave several seconds between
clicks).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 486502] Re: [fglrx karmic] Black screen and no response after starting X (Radeon HD3870)

2010-03-28 Thread Giovanni Merlino
I do-release-upgraded to 64-bit Lucid, and brand new fglrx release
exhibits same symptoms here (Xorg 100% CPU, blank screen, and the
Xorg.log stopping exactly at the same point as the submitter's one), on
a HD5770 w/ 1GB VRAM, and 5 GB of main memory.

It leads to unkillable Xorg, only resort seems to be rebooting.

One more remark: I haven't really had time to delve further on this
issue, but from the looks of it on the web (Googling around, and on
various scattered forums, i.e ubuntuforums, phoronix.com, etc), it seems
exclusive to 64-bit setups, especially with large amounts of RAM and
recent models of Radeons (HD3xxx and upwards).

Someone seemed to point to MTRR as culprit, based on past problems with
other (Intel or older ATi) cards (and also based on successes after
manually fixing MTRR mapping).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550124] [NEW] Overlay causing excessive cpu usage on Xorg process using ATI cards

2010-03-28 Thread TommyBoy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Hi I have an ATI Radeon 2600 HD.

I am finding when ever I am using overlay with the ATI card that I can
getting drastic system slowdowns. This can be seen using top on my
system.

A good example of this slowdown can be seen using gtk-recordmydesktop.
The preview panel that appears in that app will slow the system down and
xorg gets over active at that point and then you will not realy be able
to make a recording as the cpu is maxed out.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550141] [NEW] screen flickers/shimmers for half a second from side to side ATI Radeon 2600 HD

2010-03-28 Thread TommyBoy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

This can be reproduced using compiz. Please enable the water effect and
put in onto a rain delay of 500 (shift+F9). In about 10 seconds you
should see the screen dancing around and flickering. Hard to describe.
Can't make screen cast as I also have an xorg slowdown issue.

Compiz is just a method to get this bug to show up again and again. This
is also happening when I am using notifications launching wine and other
general use of the desktop.

Also I am hearing a clicking sound from the screen and sometimes getting
the message that the screen source disappeared and just reconnected also
the screen is going blank sometimes.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 527832] Re: [Lucid] Ubiquity shuts off my monitor during the startup to live environment

2010-03-28 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
This should be fixed in the Beta 1 CDs. Could you please check with
these, or a more recent daily, to verify that this problem has been
resolved?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 508699] Re: [K8M800] Xorg freeze / Kernel 2.6.32-10-generic freeze

2010-03-28 Thread Thomas Schweikle
With the most recent kernel -- 2.6.32.17 the problem still exists.

The system seems too boot regularly, then crashing while initializing
X11. One big problem: If you are fast enough, you may log in on the
console screen, but after a short while the system will stop working.
This is with regular starting the system or in recovery mode! Only
difference: in recovery mode the time between the crash and console
login shown is longer then regularly booting Ubuntu.

detect the crash and starts itself with vga16fg to have control of the

Do I need to file a new bug for Lucid, or do you want to tag this bug

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 548956] [NEW] Screen randomly blanks with a not optimum mode monitor message

2010-03-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Just updated to 10.04 on an Asus Pundit-R machine running an ATI 9100
IGP graphics chip.

On two occasions since upgrading via the update manager yesterday, the
following has happened:

* Logged into a standard gnome session running at 1680x1050 on a Samsung 226BW
22 TFT connected via VGA
* Several hours of light use (web, email etc.)
* Using a desktop app (mail client and a file browser)
* Screen spontaneously blanks
* Monitor displays a floating message saying Not Optimum Mode. Recommended
mode 1670x1050 60Hz.

To resolve I pressed Alt + F4 to switch to a console (or logged in
remotely via ssh) and restarted GDM to return to the login screen.
Naturally, all state and work on the desktop is lost.

I've attached the output of apport just after this happened. As a likely
related aside, the DVI output doesn't seem to drive the monitor any more
(the monitor just sits there searching for a signal once the machine is
past POST) - DVI output worked fine in 9.10 but has since stopped in
10.04.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

My PC specs is Intel E5300, 2GB DDR2 Dual, Gigabyte G31M-ES2C, VGA
onboard G31 and CRT monitor 17'. I downloaded Ubuntu 10.04 desktop i386
Beta 1. I burned it into a cd, and when i boot from cd and choose live
cd, i see a boot splash. After about 45s, i don't see anything on
screen, and my screen show a small text No Signal 5 4 3 2 1... (mean
no signal from pc to monitor). But, after 5m, i press power button, and
after about 15s, cd tray is eject, when i press enter, the cd tray is
close, and computer power is off. Second, i boot from cd and choose
install with out use live cd (or other), after boot splash, i don't
see anything, too (above). I never seen anything like this in Ubuntu
8.04, 8.10, 9.04, 9.10, Debian and WinXP/Vista/7. I hope the final
release of lucid will not have this problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 536840] Re: Ubuntu Lucid Live-CD doesn't boot

Black screen during boot process also occurs with the following configuration:
- MacBookPro 5.3
- Nvidia 9600M GT and discreet 9400M (which is undetected: this is normal)
- no external monitors
- AMD64 Beta 1 Live CD

If the mode setting is removed, the boot splash appears with background image

ureadahead then crashes and the boot process hangs.

have changed and we then don't need to separate the Karmic history from
the Lucid problem. It is likely that you have bug 541511, though.
Remember to update your system before filing a bug (we're now at

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org prior to release 7.5

2010-03-28 Thread Sandro Mani
wild.ideas: That being the case, perhaps someone ought to prove it out
by installing the Nvidia drivers from the 8.04 era into a fresh install
of 9.10 and demonstrating that binary nvidia + compiz + xdamage enabled
= no problem.

Or has this been done already?

That cannot be done since those drivers do not support the current
kernel / xserver. One reason drivers get updated is exactely to provide
support for these newer software pieces. Has anyone ever managed to get
a statement from a nvidia employee at nvnews concerning this issue?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 544638] Re: segmentation fault on fglrx module during startup reverts to low graphics mode

2010-03-28 Thread Cuppa-Chino
seems to be related to the ddc module -- I tried but failed to read the
edid via ddc of the built in screen in windows as well, suspect that
incorrect reporting or missing functionality for the inbuilt screen on
this Sony Vaio E-Series is to be blamed.

booting with external monitor was so far not successful also failed to
disable EDID / DDC via xorg.conf so far

I dropped into a console and just set the resolution to 1680x1050
manually using xrandr and it comes back fine.

Still a bug that it happens in the first place!

That way it will include the old logs with the failure in it so we can
try to troubleshoot it more.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 549325] Re: 32 bit compatible GL library missing.

2010-03-28 Thread Robert Hooker
Can you please paste the output of

sudo update-alternatives --config gl_conf

and the contents of

/etc/ld.so.conf.d/GL.conf

As well as the output of

ls /usr/lib32/nvidia-current/

Sorry for the trouble and thanks! What native 32 bit app are you having
problems with? This is not a problem on any of my systems so I think the
configuration got messed up somehow on your machine.

** Description changed:

When I switch to console back to X using Ctrl+Alt+F1/Ctrl+Alt+F7, X

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 461975] Re: [RS690] Broken sync and Nokia 800 Pro+

2010-03-28 Thread Malte S. Stretz
I upgraded to lucid now and the sync seems fine with 1:6.12.191-1ubuntu2
(radeonhd OTOH seems to be completely broken now). But what I can see
(and I can even take screenshots of it, see attachments) are random
horizontal bars popping up and vanishing again. I have no idea what
cases this. Oh, and the KDE fade-in effects are reaaallyy slow. I
need an extra monitor before I can see if Nokia screen cases that stuff.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 527832] Re: [Lucid] Ubiquity shuts off my monitor during the startup to live environment

2010-03-28 Thread kikbguy
This problem has not been fixed as of lucid beta or the March 28 daily lucid
build (I just tested both with the same result as before). The issue seems
to affect users with LCD TV's (and possibly nvidia video cards) but the bug
disapears when one plugs in their computer to an LCD monitor.

Considering that many people have LCD TV's (and nvidia video cards) and that
those users OS's are incapacitated by the bug, should the bug be marked as
critical under the bug level definitions?

See Bug #545648 for more info.
If there is any way I can help please let me know because Ubuntu Lucid does
not work at all on my system because of this bug. Thanks - Adam

TV goes out of sync after loading grub.

I Have followed directions from here with no luck:

I have tried disabling kms with grub by adding i915.modeset=0 with no luck.
Also tried suggestions and with sudo -i echo options i915 modeset=0
/etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf[/CODE] with no luck .

The secondary monitor does not turn on. Both my monitors turn up in the
Monitor Preferences application, and I can choose to enable it. When I
hit apply, nothing happens. The secondary monitor stays in power saving
mode and does not display anything at all. I'm using the default
opensource driver and an ATI HD5770 graphics card.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550410] [NEW] Intel Arrandale Video Corruption (Unusable)

2010-03-28 Thread Gabe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I have a Sony Vaio VPCZ1 with an Intel Core i7, Intel Arrandale GMA HD
and nVidia GT330M graphics. I have tried both the Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid
Beta 1 and the latest daily build (3/28, AMD64). When booting with the
nVidia card selected, I get a black screen and a crash. When booting
with the Intel card, I get a visible screen, however it is severely
corrupted and unusable (Please see attached image). In Ubuntu 9.10,
trying to use the Intel card results in a black screen with a few yellow
vertical wavy lines and a hard crash.

If I boot with the nomodeset option, the computer will boot properly
but X refuses to load the Intel driver due to lack of KMS. The VESA
driver functions properly albeit at low resolution.

Please let me know if any additional information would be helpful.
