[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 565835] Re: [RV250] User switching breaks X-session(s)
Tried with the radeon.agpmode parameter. I discovered that the default setting on my system is 4. None of the tried settings (-1, 1, 2, 4) did anything to the but I noted that the graphics corruption was different with the -1 setting. I noted a couple of things in my dmesg that I am not sure are important: First, it says that it detects 64M of VRAM and later says that 32M of VRAM is actually ready. Secondly, the aperture size stays at 128M for all agpmode settings except -1, when it changes to 512M. ** Attachment added: dmesg_grep_radeon.txt http://launchpadlibrarian.net/45074023/dmesg_grep_radeon.txt -- [RV250] User switching breaks X-session(s) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/565835 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456902] Re: [i845g] Karmic stops responding a few minutes after log in
Being an Ubuntu newbie, I'm afraid that the discussion has gotten a bit too technical for me recently and has lost me somewhere on the way. With the increasing excitement about the release of Lucid, I'd like to upgrade my machine but am wary that I might get freezes again. Thus my question, is there also a separate ppa for Lucid (or do I just add the same source??) that will most likely do the same job for me (if so what do I need to add)? Or can I only try and see? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 34590] Re: [mach64] DRI not Automatically Enabled for ATI Rage Mobility P/M
No, it is not fixed. The upstream task is marked as fixed because it was pointing to a security issue blocking the inclusion of mach64 into the main drm repository. However the inclusion did not happen anyway. Meanwhile, the drm code moved to the kernel, and still has no mach64. The Ubuntu task was closed because of missing feedback from the reporter. If anyone would like to hack on this, the most recent patches I have seen are from Mandriva, see http://forums.opensuse.org/get-help- here/hardware/435228-ati-mach64-2.html -- [mach64] DRI not Automatically Enabled for ATI Rage Mobility P/M https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/34590 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-mach64 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 565981] Re: [KMS] gem objects not deallocated
alex you should open a new bug report (even if you believe that it is the patch mentioned here that caused your problem). Open a console and type this: ubuntu-bug xserver-xorg There are certain attachments you should send when reporting problems like this (this list is taken form http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Xorg/Debugging): * All of the X server log file(s): /var/log/Xorg.*.log * If you use a xorg.conf, please include it in the bug report, otherwise, please specify in the bug report that it does not exist. Usually this would be located at /etc/X11/xorg.conf, but see the xorg.conf manpage - man xorg.conf - for other standard locations. * /var/log/Xorg.0.log from a trial run where you move your xorg.conf aside and let Xorg autodetect your hardware (if you have such a file). * /var/log/dmesg (please add drm.debug=15 as boot parameter and reboot) especially in case of crashes and using KMS. * content of /var/log/gdm/ only in cases there is nothing interesting in /var/log/Xorg.*.log and dmesg output but I believe that the command above will do that for you automatically. You can also give some additional information like if you noticed that the crashes happen when you use certain applications. I hope this information will be of any use to you. -- [KMS] gem objects not deallocated https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/565981 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 569008] [NEW] Kubuntu 10.04 RC xserver-xorg crashes during startup live session
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg Release : Kubuntu 10.04 RC AMD64 Package : xserver-xorg Problem Description : When starting live CD session instead of logging in to a Kwin interface it starts on console mode (meaning that the hole screen is the console). Trying to explicit start the kwin reports that no X server is not running. Trying to start the X server explicit leads to a blank (black) screen. When power down (button press) i can see the init cursor of the X server (X) instantly and then i am directed to the console again for something like a second and then to the blue GUI screen with the kubuntu logo prompting to remove CD. In both cases of start-up and shut-down the GUI screens with the logo of kubuntu are shown. Hardware Information : VGA compatible controller : ATI Technologies Inc RV730 PRO [Radeon HD 4650] Host bridge : ATI Technologies Inc RD790 Northbridge only dual slot PCI-e_GFX and HT3 K8 part Audio device : ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA) Audio device : ATI Technologies Inc R700 Audio Device [Radeon HD 4000 Series] CPU : AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 965 Processor Motherboard : MSI 790FX-GD70 (790FX Northbidge) Notice that the 9.10 version of kubuntu works fine on that hardware. Also notice that in the working 9.10 version i am using a custom kernel 2.6.32 (official) with custom built fglrx 8.712 (ATI 10.3 official driver). In the 9.10 release i had similar problems with the 10.2 ATI driver. So i assume that is either the X Server or some faulty driver package (if any is used). The X.Org X Server 1.6.4 of previous version seems to work fine with both 2.6.32 kernel and the latest ATI fglrx drivers (with the exception of 10.2) I hope this info is useful for a better release. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Kubuntu 10.04 RC xserver-xorg crashes during startup live session https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/569008 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 568779] [NEW] 10.04 rc livecd boots into black/blank screen (intel 82852/855GM graphic card)
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I try to boot ubuntu 10.04 rc livecd (32 bit) via hd. I can see the Purple ubuntu loading for less than a second , then it turns into blank black screen and nothing happens after, cannot use it or login. It seems that the live ubuntu completely crashed. I try to press ctrl+alt+f1/f2..., then capslock, but there is no response. So I can do nothing, except pressing the power button to shutdown my laptop. My laptop is BenQ Joybook 5000U, with a Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated graphics card, Pentium M 1.3GHz CPU, 1G DDR2 RAM. The earlier livecd, 10.04 Beta2, boots perfectly on my laptop, with compiz enabled, but the RC version of livecd always fails. There must be a bug on X or gdm, or video driver. When it trys to start gdm after boot logo, it always turn into blank black screen, with key board locked. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 561798] [NEW] Clicking NoScript crashes X
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: firefox I'm running Lucid Beta 2 with all updates applied as of about 2010-04-12 12:00:00 PDT. Firefox version: 3.6.3 (straight from the distro repo) NoScript version: 1.9.9.61 (the current version) Clicking the NoScript icon in the Firefox status bar causes X to crash immediately. This did not occur last week (an earlier version of Lucid Beta 2), or in Lucid Beta 1. So perhaps it's an X or kernel regression, I'm not sure. Steps to reproduce: 1. Install Ubuntu 10.10 Beta 2. 2. Apply all updates. 3. Open Firefox. 4. Install the NoScript extension. 5. Restart Firefox. 6. Navigate to any Web page with Javascript, e.g. http://www.clearspring.com/ 7. Click the NoScript icon in the Firefox status bar. Observed behavior: The X server crashes immediately, with error messages that go away too quickly for me to read. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 565981] Re: [KMS] gem objects not deallocated
Petar, You clearly implied that I was misinterpreting my results in the first sentence of comment #37. In comment #59, I acknowledged that your system appears not to have the same memory leak issue; as I said, your allocation increases /and/ decreases, unlike my own. I asked for evidence simply because I was concerned that some people may have prematurely reported the bug as fixed (thankfully however, it seems that my issue is a corner-case). I am not interested in an argument, so don't try to create a mountain out of a molehill. Regardless, in light of the 1.8 server being uploaded to xorg-edgers (version 2:1.8.0+git20100422+server-1.8-branch.5455df65-0ubuntu0sarvatt2), I gave the newest packages another try. Unfortunately, compiz stilI freezes on my system with the 1.8 server. Although I'm not sure if it matters, considering that the leak in this report is related to GLX/OpenGL, I did enable metacity compositing (which uses XRender), and after 5 hours uptime I can see the object bytes allocation remaining stable at ~43MB. The system is very responsive, and closing applications has the expected effect of decreasing the GEM allocation.
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 568988] Re: [Lucid][Ubuntu 10.04][ATI cards] Slow/freeze windows management (resize, maximise, .etc) with fglrx driver + compositing desktop.
It was suggested by Bryce Harrington that we create a fresh bug report because of the comment limit and dangling workaround instructions in the 400+ comments. Please don't mark it as a duplicate of #351186. Quote Bryce Harrington. Finally, I notice that the #comments has now exceeded what launchpad can handle, so the bug comments can no longer be displayed in the web interface. That's a shame. If I were you guys, I'd close out this bug report and replace it with a fresh one, that has a clear write up for a description, the current patch attached, the PPA as a workaround, and steps to rebuild xserver to include the patch. ** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 351186 [M76] [ubuntu 9.04] [ubuntu 9.10] [ubuntu 10.04] slow unminimizing with ati card and desktop effects enabled -- [Lucid][Ubuntu 10.04][ATI cards] Slow/freeze windows management (resize, maximise, .etc) with fglrx driver + compositing desktop. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568988 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 406045] Re: [RV360] X Server problem with ATi 9600 XT in Lucid Beta 2
You don't understand. The system doesn't start the graphical server at all. It just freezes. Not even CTRL+1 or CTRL+ALT+DEL doesn't work. This affects me in BETA 2. I have tested Lucid RC and it seems to work just fine. I mean ... everything works ... even compiz (wow). I haven't had compiz since 6.06 on this computer. I've also ran the command you mentioned to grab some debug results. I hope this won't be broken in the final. The RC just works. ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: I have an old computer with an ATi Radeon 9600 XT on it. If I boot up with the Ubuntu 8.04.2 LTS LiveDVD everything works just fine. But if I try to boot with the 8.10 or 9.04 my computer would freeze when starting the X Server. Actually, the X Server doesn't even start. I see the boot logo till it loads completely but after that step it is supposed to get me to the login screen. The problem is that My monitor goes to standby (maybe it can't find display modes) and I have to reset my computer. I installed 8.04.2 and made an incremental dist-upgrade to Jaunty, but the same issue is present. I did not install FGLRX because my card is not supported any more. My temporary sollution is to boot into my 9.04 installation using the 8.04 kernel from the GRUB menu. Maybe someone can help me find a fix for this issue as I could't find on the internet yet and maybe this fix will get intergrated in 9.10 [lspci] 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: nVidia Corporation nForce3 250Gb Host Bridge [10de:00e1] (rev a1) Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
