[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 568779] Re: 10.04 rc livecd boots into black/blank screen (intel 82852/855GM graphic card)

2010-04-24 Thread MilchFlasche
As for me, the RC live CD image downloaded this morning (GMT 2:00 AM
4/24) CAN boot into KDE desktop (although the bootsplash is an ugly
Ubuntu 10.04 text) on my Lenovo S10-2 netbook (with Intel GMA 950).

However, 10.04 upgraded from 9.10 still fails to boot. Clean
installation boots fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 516329] Re: TouchPad buttons don't work on HP Mini 210 (1030NR)

2010-04-24 Thread Jeff Epstein
This bug also applies to the HP Mini 210-1010NR model.

Just to recap my own experience:

Out of the box, the actual buttons (which are physically part of the
pad area) don't work. To effectuate a click, one has to tap on the pad.
Right click is very hard, as one has to tap on the lower right corner of
the pad; it usually takes me a few tries. Two-fingered scrolling does
not work, but edge scrolling does.

This is my workaround: I discovered that by applying the following
settings via synclient, I can achieve two-fingered scrolling, and a two-
fingered tap will be interpreted as a right-click. (However, two-
fingered scrolling is still a disabled option in gnome-mouse-mouse-
properties.) This isn't a fix to this bug, but it might help people who
are having trouble.

This command will do it:

synclient TapButton2=3 HorizTwoFingerScroll=1 VertTwoFingerScroll=1
EmulateTwoFingerMinZ=29 EmulateTwoFingerMinW=5

By the way, what is the correct way to apply these settings
automatically at start up? Does one have to edit
/usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/* or is there a per-user way of applying these
settings other than invoking synclient in .xinitrc? Any help would be
appreciated.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 352804] Re: In Kubuntu 9.04 Beta, when logging off the X does not come back.

2010-04-24 Thread Patrick
At least for my Mobility Radeon HD3200, where I'm sure to have been
affected by exactly this bug, I can say that Kubuntu Lucid Beta2/RC
works. Logout shows KDM login screen again as it is expected.

But I must also say that solving such critical bugs takes too much time.
When a critical system component hangs each time it is used, it cannot
be acceptable to wait one year / two releases until it works again.
Maybe responsible persons should check their priorities if there are not
enough people to help fixing issues. I like to test and report bugs, but
it makes no sense when critical bugs are not fixed and a system hangs
all the time so it is unusable.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 569352] [NEW] No debug symbols for binary package xserver-xorg

2010-04-24 Thread TJ
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

As it says in the title.

Currently debugging bug #567696 [Radeon] [Lucid] [mi] EQ overflowing.
The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop where the back-trace
includes several entries from /usr/bin/X but there are no debug symbols

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 567696] Re: [Radeon] [Lucid] [mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop

2010-04-24 Thread TJ
Ilja, the NMI issue is a different one. You should report that
separately against linux since it is likely an issue with the kernel
(I'll take a guess there's an Atheros WiFi adaptor?). Create that report
from a terminal shell using:

ubuntu-bug linux

And when you've been logged into Launchpad set the title of the bug to
NMI received for unknown reason a1 on CPU 0. Then add to the top of
the bug description the symptom report:

Apr 23 14:57:12 kernel: [14685.638506] Uhhuh. NMI received for unknown reason
a1 on CPU 0.
Apr 23 14:57:13 kernel: [14685.638511] You have some hardware problem, likely
on the PCI bus.
Apr 23 14:57:13 kernel: [14685.638513] Dazed and confused, but trying to
continue may or may not be related.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 568779] Re: 10.04 rc livecd boots into black/blank screen (intel 82852/855GM graphic card)

2010-04-24 Thread MilchFlasche
It's impossible to reach the recovery mode of such installation, so I have
installed a clean installation on another partition, and chroot into the buggy
one, and did
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
= Rebooted and no luck :(

Amazing... The same 2.6.32-21-generic kernel, but one with clean
installation, one with upgraded installation, the result is different.
So is the problem with the video drivers, not with the kernel?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 555169] Re: Keyboard and mouse freeze after grub

2010-04-24 Thread Sami Kantoluoto
For me it's not about update. I just installed fresh Xubuntu 10.04 RC
(tried Kubuntu too just to verify it's not about the distribution) using
wubi as this one happens to be a windows machine.. This one has
Logitech's Bluetooth Desktop MX5000 keyboard + mouse with Logitech's USB
Bluetooth tranceiver (it shows as an USB keyboard + USB mouse if I
recall correctly). As I can't log in I really can't (or can I?) get any
information out of it..

I haven't tried on my workstation (which has Ubuntu 9.10 installed) but
I guess I'm not trying to update it just yet.. It has a PS/2 keyboard
and USB mouse so maybe I should try live CD.

Just fixed my own problem!

When I start the Live CD, I enter a custom configuration before Ubuntu
boots off the CD. If i type;

video=CTR-0:800x600

The screen does not go out of range! Instead it sets the resolution to
the correct 1024x768!!!

This is with the Ubuntu 10.04 RC Live CD!

Not sure if you want to changed this to fix Bryce???

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 569433] [NEW] I can't install fglrx package

2010-04-24 Thread Welington R. Braga
Public bug reported:

Guys,

I've just upgraded my system from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04RC. Before I had
done that my video were ok with a drive I had got from ATI site (ati-
driver-installer-10-3-x86.x86_64.run).

After upgrade I can't anymore neither install this driver, nor that
official package that is coming with Lucid.

My videocard is a ATI Technologies Inc RV730 Pro AGP [Radeon HD 4600
Series] and worked fine. Now, when I try install it, both of them show
me a error message like that:

(Lendo banco de dados ... 375770 arquivos e diretórios atualmente instalados).
Desempacotando fglrx (de .../fglrx_2%3a8.723.1-0ubuntu3_i386.deb) ...

[Warning] Uninstall : inst_path_default or inst_path_override
does not exist in /etc/ati. This suggests that the ATI driver
is not installed, the ATI driver is only partially installed,
or the current ATI driver installed is an older version than the
one this script was designed for. Both files listed above are
required for determining where installed files are located.
To force uninstallation of the driver by guessing where the
uninstallation files are located, set the FORCE_ATI_UNINSTALL
environment variable and re-run /usr/share/ati/fglrx-uninstall.sh (this is not
recommended).

I've seen lots of messages on Google and Ubuntu forum about this bug.
Someone has solved, but I could do this. Among those sites I've read one
suggest this
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9062521postcount=158), but it
doesn't work for me.

2010-04-24 Thread MilchFlasche
FYI, I can't boot into 2.6.32-21 recovery mode, it's also stucked.

I guess you can confirm again if you are reporting from 2.6.31-19/20 or
2.6.32-21, since they make big difference.

For me 2.6.31-20 seems to be problematic too.

Hi alex, I have added the PPA as you told, however the 2.11 driver

also encountered this warning, or did you just ignored it and installed

Adding i915.modeset=1 to the boot line does no help either. 2.6.32-21
and 2.6.31-20 both fails. Recovery mode won't get through either.

I'm wondering if I can ever get my old installation back, or should I
just use this new installation. But it really feels bad. I should not
have chosen to upgrade to get into this.

Regarding my comment in #7, I've been running for the last 4 days

So I'm inclined to agree that the problem is down at the kernel level

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 569475] [NEW] [HD5450] Cannot load module fglrxdrm after xorg-driver-fglrx 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu3 update

2010-04-24 Thread Manuel Sanchez
Public bug reported:

After updating xorg-driver-fglrx to 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu3, the machine
previously exhibiting the behaviour described in bug #560570 (running
10.04 beta) now fails to load libfglrxdrm.so and reverts to vesa. I
presume this is an update error unrelated to the problem defined in the
other bug (driver hang), thus I'm submitting it as a new one.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 539163] [NEW] [Legacy Radeon cards] Desktop effects/compiz: display brightness fluctuation with zoom, workspace switch or Expo

2010-04-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Ubuntu Lucid Lynx, kernel 2.6.32.xx

Zooming in with Super+Scroll causes the screen to become very dark,
practically unreadable. Adjusting Fn+Brightness doesn't fix this,
although I can tell the brightness changing slightly. The same thing
happens when changing workspaces (Ctrl+Alt+- or Ctrl+Alt+-), dragging
a window from one workspace to another, or using Expo (Super+E) to view
all workspaces simultaneously. Returning to normal zoom level will
always restore the correct level of brightness immediately,
corresponding to how it might have been adjusted during black out. I
also noticed that the cursor will stay bright against the dark
background.

I reported this bug against the kernel because with the mainline kernel
there were no issues with brightness (albeit, there are some other
issues). A bug report against the X.org Radeon driver is at
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25883

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 559170] Re: [RV515] System unusable with Compiz due to extremely slow redrawing (of menus, window movements, selections...)

2010-04-24 Thread otrojake
I am also experiencing the symptoms this bug describes. I'm currently
running a fully updated Lucid system with 1:6.13.0-1ubuntu5 of the
ati/radeon open source driver. If I switch to a virtual tty, kill
compiz, then switch back to my X session and restart compiz,
functionality is restored. Bryce, would you like me to run an apport-
collect on this bug?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 539163] Re: [Legacy Radeon cards] Desktop effects/compiz: display brightness fluctuation with zoom, workspace switch or Expo

2010-04-24 Thread Andreas Modinos
Looks like I finally found the explanation...
My upstream bug was pretty quickly marked a duplicate of another bug and within
that bug's comments I found this tip:
Go to Compiz settings (compizconfig-settings-manager), in there to general
settings and deselect Lighting.

That fixed the issue for me. Apparently it's a bug in the display
driver.

For now I am marking this bug invalid since it does not seem to be
related to the kernel after all.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 566133] Re: xserver fails to start after splash, screens turns black, no response, hard reboot needed

2010-04-24 Thread Fredrik Folkeryd
I can confirm that 2.6.32-21 freezes X completely. A low resolution
flash screen warning about HD check shows a few seconds, then the screen
flashes, goes blank and then freezes completely. The only thing to do
then is a hard reboot. 2.6.32-20-generic works, but boots slower than
before.

That`s not only Ubuntu`s bug. I use Fedora, so, I`ve noticed this bug in
Fedora10. It has came with some of last updates of x11-libs. And this
bug is still presented in Fedora12. May be this info will help you to
find out the buggy version of libs/data. Or to developers of a buggy
package.

I am running ubuntu 10.04 RC.

When I was in BIOS v1.10 the nomodeset acpi_backlight=vendor parameter

Now I upgraded to BIOS v2.31 and I have all these issues. Can we get a

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 561049] Re: after upgrade to lucid, xorg frequently fails to start properly using nvidia-current

2010-04-24 Thread bcrowell
Okay, here's what I found.

When I boot into recovery mode, the nvidia module is already loaded, but
the device nodes don't exist. I then unload and reload the nvidia
module. Nothing special happens, except for the warning WARNING: Could
not find old name in /lib/modules/2.6.32-19-generic/updates/dkms/nvidia-
current.ko to replace! Then I start x. After I start x, the device
nodes have been created. I used the attached shell script to automate
the process. Out of 36 boots, the results were:

31 successful starts of X
2 cases where I never got a shell prompt
2 cases where X failed to start, but I wasn't set up to do the logging
1 case where I think I got the necessary information. Not completely sure about
this one, however, because it was one of my first attempts. I was still messing
around with the perl script, and I wasn't paying close enough attention to what
was happening.

In all cases, I was doing warm reboots.

I will post a log from a case where X worked, and the one where it
failed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 569505] [NEW] screen resolution wrong with Riva TNT2 video card

Public bug reported:

Lucid release candidate, Nividia Riva TNT2 video card, Dell 1905FP LCD
monitor: nouveau driver sets the highest screen resolution at 1024 x 768

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 330906] Re: MASTER: GMA-500 lacks driver for 8.10 and 9.10 (poulsbo works only on 8.04 and 9.04)

2010-04-24 Thread m0dcm
Canonical should be looking out for their Users! and the Linux Foundation
should too!
I did read something that In November 2009, the Linux Foundation released the
details of a new, rewritten Linux driver that would support this chipset and
Intel's other upcoming chipsets. The Direct Rendering Manager and X.org parts
would be free software, but the 3D component (using Gallium3D) will still be
proprietary. and more news from Phoronix about this from November 2009 can be
found here, http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=NzY2Mg
But as you know, there's NOTHING that's been done.

I know I had a very ignorant reply back from Intel about the GMA500
driver, saying that it's down to the Distrobution to fix the problem.
Maybe we (all GMA500 users) should all send a message to Intel to get
them to do something.

Same problem since upgrade 10.04 beta to rc with an intel 82852/855GM
graphic card with intel celeron Mobile 1.4 ghz. On blank screen kernel
magic shortcut ALT PRINT SCREEN R + E + I + S + U +B for clean restart
don't work.

Same problem on livecd or installed on disk.

But starting in recovery mode (for me press shift to see grub option at
startup) and choose to run in failsafeX mode work fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 561049] Re: after upgrade to lucid, xorg frequently fails to start properly using nvidia-current

2010-04-24 Thread Robert Hooker
bcrowell: You must be using a apt mirror that has not been updated in
quite some time, please change it to one of the primary mirrors (like
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu) and update with sudo apt-get update
and then sudo apt-get dist-upgrade. Do you have /usr mounted on a
seperate partition? This sounds like a bug that has been fixed quite
some time ago where the blacklist wouldn't get loaded if the seperate
partition it was on was being fscked and you just have not received the
updates yet because of the mirror problem.

I googled Dell Latitude X300 and found that the graphic card of it is
intel integrated graphics card (Intel Extreme Graphics 855 GM), the same
graphic card as my BenQ Joybook 5000U (Intel Corporation 82852/855GM
series). And your description matches bug #568779 well. It should be a
 duplicate of bug #568779.

** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 568779
10.04 rc livecd boots into black/blank screen (intel 82852/855GM graphic
 card)

Greetings Calvin:

Just wanted to verify, yes- the two bugs are the same. Yesterday I
downloaded the April 19th release candidate live CD image from
http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/ (now apparently moved to
http://releases.ubuntu.com/lucid/) the file is dated April 19th and has
the following MD5.

9b88dce8d215a3c2839105ab8e3139be *lucid-desktop-i386.iso

The burned CD fails at exactly the same place as my Lucid test partition boot.
So yes, the two bugs
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/567621
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568779

are from the same cause.

Posting this reply to both bug reports

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and
your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a
lot if you could test the current Ubuntu development version (10.04). If you
can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload
updated logs by running apport-collect 400613, and any other logs that are
relevant for this particular issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 561049] Re: after upgrade to lucid, xorg frequently fails to start properly using nvidia-current

2010-04-24 Thread TJ
Well it gets more confusing! Both logs show the device nodes created.
Are you *sure* the failed_log isn't accidentally a successful run?

After sed-ing out the differences in dates and times a diff doesn't show
much difference aside from echoing of the commands in the
successful_log.

sed -i -e 's/..:..:../ : : /g' -e 's/..:../ : /g' -e 's/2010-04-24/-

2010-04-24 Thread Alban
For normal boot you can fix temporarily the problem until the bug fixed
by changing your /etc/X11/xorg.conf by this (this is the failsafe
conf) :

Section Device
  Identifier Configured Video Device
  Driver Vesa
EndSection

Section Monitor
 Identifier Configured Monitor
EndSection

Section Sceen
  Identifier Default Screen
  Monitor Configured Monitor
  Device Configured Video Device
EndSection
