[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 569838] Re: huge memory leak using radeon os driver when KMS is disabled
** Description changed: Binary package hint: libdrm-radeon1 Hi, When I disable KMS Xorg's memory usage raises up to 165MB! It usually doesn't get lower after closing running applications. I suppose it can be memory leak in the libdrm-radeon1 package, because when I enable KMS (so libdrm2 is used) Xorg memory usage is normal - less then 50MB and it gets lower when I close running applications. I have a Radeon X1600XT card and I am using Kubuntu Lucid and have Kwin effects enabled. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 474455] Re: [g33] dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg (with sudo) ends abruptly. Does not show the configuration screens.
@Rick Bryce: This is not a forum for support requests, but a tracker to fix defects in the software that makes up Ubuntu. The fact that dpkg- reconfigure no longer writes out an xorg.conf is not a defect. In the vast majority of cases X can better detect the appropriate configuration than what we had in the reconfigure hooks. If you're having problems with the configuration of Ubuntu you can ask a question on https://answers.launchpad.net/ or get support in the Ubuntu forums: http://ubuntuforums.org . -- [g33] dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg (with sudo) ends abruptly. The driver provided in a .deb by someone in this bug as an attachment doesn't work for 10.04 (used to work for 9.04 and 9.10). I had to use the VESA driver wich is really bad for video playback. I know Ubuntu wants to keep close with Debian but this bug is about to have 2 years and no solution at all to the ubuntu users that have this video card (wich is quite popular to be honest), in the meantime distros like Fedora, Mandriva and SuSE have this fixed already. ** Attachment added: lspci-koshrf.txt http://launchpadlibrarian.net/45452440/lspci-koshrf.txt -- [needs-packaging] no working driver for sis 671/771 video cards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/301958 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-sis in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 554023] Re: gdm fails to start
Ok. So, what's happening here would seem to be that the KVM that you have is doing at least one of the following: a) Not putting sufficient electrical load on the VGA port so that the intel driver isn't detecting a connected monitor there, and/or b) Not responding to DDC requests, so the intel driver is unable to determine the acceptable display modes. You might be able to force on the VGA connector by passing “video=VGA1:800x600” (or whatever mode you wish) to the kernel command line; you can access that from the GRUB boot menu. Just place it on the same line as “quiet splash”. I'm not sure whether this will forcibly enable the VGA output for you, but it's worth a shot. Temperature reading for the CPU was at 59 degrees C. The fan speed was at medium all the time at around 2700 rpm. Further details: Ubuntu Lucid Lynx amd64 kernel, updated as of 25 April. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 570123] [NEW] Using xrandr with dual monitor causes garbled image
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Almost every time I use xrandr to setup my monitors I get garbled, unusable desktop. The system remains perfectly working (no lockups, mouse pointer visible and working, desktop responsive to inputs: I could continue use it blindly). With some more details: - If I change the configuration of a monitor, I get the garbled desktop. Reverting to previous configuration does not work (still garbled). Sometimes I got an usable desktop (blindly) configuring monitors with very low resolutions (800x600 or 640x480). - The issue often occurs even doing a simple xrandr query (with CLI or opening the GUI). - If I start my laptop with the external monitor plugged, gdm starts fine (with low resolution on both monitors, though), gnome starts fine with both monitors well working at right resolution (1280x800+0+224, 1280x1024+1280+0). Changing the configuration of a monitor triggers the issue. As a side node, things work perfectly with Fedora 13 Beta live DVD (apart from xorg crash when rotating a monitor at maximum resolution). So the issue maybe related to xorg 1.7.6 and solved in xorg 1.8. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 569948] [NEW] When multiple users login, GDM doesn't come back after any of them logs out leading to DATA LOSS for the others
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: gdm This system is running Lucid beta 1 with latest updates (so, up to RC). It has one main admin user and 3 other users, all using encrypted home directories. I created two extra test users, one with encrypted home and one without. I was able to reproduce this problem with any combination of users. Steps to reproduce: - Login as one user (A) - Switch to user (B) - Logout Result: GDM / X crash - can't access console or zap X (X session kill shortcut Ctrl Alt Backspace is enabled). This results in data loss for user (A). In my use case, at home, I often remain logged in when I am nearby the system, and my 2 daughter and wife login. Switching back and forth from any user works, however as soon as one user logs out completely, it will crash the system as described above, requiring a restart (hard power-off, restart). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 562418] Re: many -dbg packages have debug symbols mismatch
** Description changed: + SRU INFORMATION: + Impact: Produces empty ddebs and broken debug links on packages which call dh_strip on a package more than once, when being built on Soyuz (not locally). + Patch: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-dev/pkg-create-dbgsym/ubuntu/revision/180 + Test case: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-dev/pkg-create-dbgsym/ubuntu/revision/176 + Regression potential: p-c-d has quite an extensive test suite which cover a lot of different build systems, debhelper compat levels, etc. Almost all bug reports get a test written first to ensure that it reproduces the bug and the patch fixes it. However, being a toolchain package it can potentially cause all further builds to be broken completely (which is very very unlikely, though); a more realistic regression potential is that this now causes debug packages to stop being built because the check for has debug symbols is imprecise. + Update: Probably affects all packages which happen to run dh_strip twice on the same binary package. Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-core-dbg After upgrading to Lucid, I get the following error when trying to debug xorg: $ gdb /usr/bin/Xorg GNU gdb (GDB) 7.1-ubuntu Copyright (C) 2010 Free Software Foundation, Inc. I kept getting repeat messages that my monitor is going to sleep (standby mode). I asked a friend who is in the Ubuntu community if he could help me. He sent me a link to the alternate CD image site. I tried downloading and installing but got the same result. Then I tried his other suggestion, which was to boot the live CD, get information from terminal using the lspci command, copy the information and submit a bug report. When I went to make the bug report, another problem occurred. I clicked on the log in / register link and then I was disconnected from the wireless network. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 545096] Re: [lucid][R500 X1400] intermitent screen corruption (pink world ) - regression from -20 to -21 kernel
I was able to reproduce that bug with -21 kernel but it seems a lot less frequent. So, to summarize, this is what happens: There are four possible situations : 1) Everything is smooth and fine. 2) Splash screen is ugly but everything is fine once logged (not a real problem) 3) Normal session with backlight flickering. This starts immediatly at login and appears randomly during the whole session. This is a bit annoying but a bit subtle and you can work with it the whole day (if you are in a bright room. A bit more annoying in darker places). 4) Pink world. Heavy corruptions with freezes. This is appears randomly during the session but starts only after at least 4 or 5 minutes. This make it impossible to work with the computer but also impossible to know if you will hit the bug or not.. It has to be noted that those 4 situations are mutually exclusives. It means that if I have an ugly splash screen, I'm sure I will not have any corruption. Also, as soon as I see backlight flickering, I know I will not have any Pink World ! * With normal boot (-21 kernel) : - 50% of the time, everything is fine and smooth (1) - 40% of the time, backlight flickering (3) - 10% of the time, pink world (4) * With normal boot (-20 kernel) : - 80% of the time, pink world (4) - 20% of the time, (3) * With nomodeset (any known kernel): - 100% of the time, everything work but splashscreen (2) -- [lucid][R500 X1400] intermitent screen corruption (pink world ) - regression from -20 to -21 kernel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/545096 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xserver-xorg-driver-ati. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 570144] [NEW] [855GME] 2:2.9.1-3ubuntu5 causes slow 3d
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel I have a Thinkpad x40 that includes Intel 855GME hardware. I'm running Lucid Netbook remix and trying to use the 3d launcher. If I let apt install the lastest 2:2.9.1-3ubuntu5, the 3d launcher is painfully slow. clicking on different tabs takes several seconds to update, the mouseover zoom on icons is slow, and scrolling is so laggy as to be useless. Reverting to 2:2.9.1-3ubuntu4 makes all of these issues go away. Further note, I'm running the previous kernel 2.6.32-20-generic (rather than 2.6.32-21-generic) as the -21 version is also problematic with this hardware: it locks hard on startx with the newer kernel. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 570151] [NEW] mouse stuck between screens with xinerama
Public bug reported: This url pretty much has the exact description of the problem I have http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-818488-start-0.html and their solution was to downgrade to xserver 1.6 but I don't see how to do that with ubuntu. I have two 8800GTS video cards and two monitors on each card. With Xinerama enabled and moving the mouse between screens the mouse will get stuck. At that point Xorg will increase in memory usage very quickly it looks like a hundred megs every couple seconds. I can go to another machine and kill Xorg then it will restart and I can use the system again but this is very frustrating. I've tried the following: First I removed /etc/X11/xorg.conf (my failsave) In file /etc/default/grub I appended the line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash radeon.agpmode=X where X = -1,1,2,4,8. Then a update-grub and a fresh reboot after each X change. After all no change in behaviour, problems keep still the same. -- [RV410] Screen gets unreadable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/559189 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xserver-xorg-driver-ati. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
