I just posted a thread at ubuntuforums.org (before I saw this) in case anyone wants to follow whatever discussion results there: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9300254 (that thread also complains about the hundreds of thousands of lines of output from kmail/kontact and amarok that are needlessly being thrown into xsession-errors, which is probably not relevant to the crashing). $ lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Memory Controller Hub (rev 07) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07) 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07) 00:03.0 Communication controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset MEI Controller (rev 07) 00:03.3 Serial controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset AMT SOL Redirection (rev 07) 00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82567LM Gigabit Network Connection (rev 03) 00:1a.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #4 (rev 03) 00:1a.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #5 (rev 03) 00:1a.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #6 (rev 03) 00:1a.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #2 (rev 03) 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) PCI Express Port 1 (rev 03) 00:1c.1 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) PCI Express Port 2 (rev 03) 00:1c.3 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) PCI Express Port 4 (rev 03) 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #1 (rev 03) 00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #2 (rev 03) 00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #3 (rev 03) 00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #1 (rev 03) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile PCI Bridge (rev 93) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation ICH9M-E LPC Interface Controller (rev 03) 00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation ICH9M/M-E SATA AHCI Controller (rev 03) 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) SMBus Controller (rev 03) 03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless WiFi Link 5300 ** Attachment added: .xsession-errors following the described crash http://launchpadlibrarian.net/48464424/xcrash.3 -- X server crashes randomly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/573957 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 580782] Re: Synaptics Touchpad stopped working
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in xserver-xorg-input-synaptics. When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 566375] Re: log spam when detaching a slave device
Hello, I encounter these messages on my netbook as well. Lucid Netbook Edition with kernel 2.6.33-22, using X-server 1.7.6 here. I currently have some trouble with touchscreen after upgrade from karmic ... maybe this is relevant? To be honest, I don't understand the detaching slave device part of the description here ... for me it seems to spam right after bootup. Another effect might be that my mouse cursor after most logons after bootup remains in waiting style. Not at logon screen, but after logging in the first user. To make it difficult, its not after every bootup. Logging off and on again does not solve the issue. Changing user logins solves it most of the times. But maybe this has nothing to do with the problem described here. -- log spam when detaching a slave device https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/566375 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 580985] [NEW] DPI of monitor incorrectly set
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I just started using Lucid and a new monitor. xdpyinfo reports 96 DPI while the monitor has 103. I am using Xorg-Edgers; I hope it's OK to report the problem here anyway. According to Xorg.log the physical size and native resolution of the monitor are correctly detected but then instead of calculating the DPI from that information, 96 is used: [ 3.890] (II) RADEON(0): clock: 154.0 MHz Image Size: 474 x 297 mm [ 3.890] (II) RADEON(0): Output DVI-0 using initial mode 1920x1200 [ 3.891] (==) RADEON(0): DPI set to (96, 96) I will try to work around this by creating an /etc/X11/xorg.conf manually but I expected the DPI to be set correctly without this. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 569372] Re: 10.4 Live CD - Blank screen with Radeon 5870
Baboune, It may be easier to download the alternate install CD then choosing to boot to a recovery console after installing. Once at the console, you can install the Radeon drivers and then 10.04 will boot properly. This is what I had to do to get it installed. Unfortunately, vsync is completely broken even if you force it so the experience isn't the greatest (movies are almost unbearable with all the tearing). -- 10.4 Live CD - Blank screen with Radeon 5870 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/569372 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 575982] Re: X crashes screen goes between blank and black and white straps. display
this crash of x seems to be triggered when ever screensaver kicks in or when i go to change some/any screensaver related setting. Sometimes it happens when i am casually surfing net. So i have done this. sudo killall gnome-screensaver gconftool-2 --type boolean -s /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/screensaver/start_screensaver false screensaver still did not stop appearing so i did sudo chmod -x /usr/bin/gnome-screensaver now crashes are few are far between but none the less they happen regularly. Specially if i leave computer ideal for 10-20 mins doing nothing. Before lucid i could not even once use ubuntu because of x freezes. This time it is crashing but at least responding to shutdown button press. Hope you guys fix this issue soon too. -- X crashes screen goes between blank and black and white straps. display https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575982 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
