If you don't have that link then maybe you're not using the standard
mesa or something else went wrong.

What's the output of the following command?
apt-cache policy libgl1-mesa-glx

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 569879] Re: Non-admin user logout fails on Lucid

2010-05-15 Thread Ken Hagan
I think I'm getting this problem on both my systems. (Certainly the
symptoms are very similar and they're both Intel 945 graphics.) I've
switched to the non-themed greeter (SystemSetting/Advanced/LoginManager)
and this appears to be sufficient to avoid provoking the problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 538648] Re: [Intel GM45] Irregular sync flashes (Lenovo T500, Dell Insp. 1545)

2010-05-15 Thread clau...@ubuntu
I am testing the workaround as well.

Maybe this could be relevant: I have *never* experienced this problem
when the laptop has an external screen attached. It does not matter if I
only use the external screen or both screens.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573957] Re: X server crashes randomly

2010-05-15 Thread Marsh
this is the output from .xsession-errors .xsession-errors.1 --- a clean
startup and one that shutdown. Dont know if that will help any. Sorry - am
just a user so am at a bit of an anxious loss until someone can hold my hand
a little :/

On 14 May 2010 21:54, James Sams sams.ja...@gmail.com wrote:

I'm getting a similar error in an upgraded kubuntu (from 9.10 to 10.04)
on 64 bit hardware. There is nothing in Xorg.log files to indicate a
whole X crash, but my ~/.xsession-error has similar output:

XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server :0.0
after 394169 requests (394168 known processed) with 3 events
 remaining.
kxkb: Fatal IO error: client killed
kded4: Fatal IO error: client killed
kdeinit4: Fatal IO error: client killed
 kdeinit4: sending SIGHUP to children.
 . . .
(followed by 150+ lines of application crashes, see attached
 xsession-errors for the full output).

I just posted a thread at ubuntuforums.org (before I saw this) in case
anyone wants to follow whatever discussion results there:
 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9300254 (that thread also
complains about the hundreds of thousands of lines of output from
kmail/kontact and amarok that are needlessly being thrown into
xsession-errors, which is probably not relevant to the crashing).

Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu: New

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: xorg

After upgrade to Lucid, the X server started to crash, however I fail to
detect any pattern. It can occur only after hours of use or quite soon after
logging in, thus I guess it's pretty random.

After the crash, the screen blinks (with black screen and terminal output)
for a few times and then GDM restarts and I'm able to log back in.

Please note that I'm not using a standard Ubuntu kernel due to a problem
I've had since Karmic: in that case, X wouldn't even start. However, even
with a modified kernel, I experienced no problems while using Karmic.

A sample output of .xsession following the crash :

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 580782] Re: Synaptics Touchpad stopped working

2010-05-15 Thread Philip Muškovac
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in xserver-xorg-input-synaptics.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 30562] Re: Acer € an d $ + special laptop keys: outside supported X keyco de range

2010-05-15 Thread EliotBlennerhassett
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 313514 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/313514

I have an Acer aspire 4315 running Ubuntu 10.04.
By default showkeys -s doesn't report anything when the euro or dollar keys are
pressed. As above, the default scancodes are 255. Using evtest, I find
that the scancodes are b3 and b4

I have made these usable by
1) Adding to /etc/rc.local (and making sure it is excutable):
setkeycodes b3 183
setkeycodes b4 184

2) Creating ~/.Xmodmap with
keycode 183 = XF86Launch2
keycode 184 = XF86Launch3

Reboot. (Or sudo /etc/rc.local; sudo xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap)

Probably could map them to other directly usable things like euro
symbol, home end etc as well

3) Myself, I now use these keys in System/Preferences/Keyboard
Shortcuts, mapped to certain special functions.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 164793] Re: Logitech MX610 mouse special functions doesn't work

2010-05-15 Thread martin
I have a left-handed MX610, and on Lucid it works flawlessly:
- left and right mousebuttons work as they are supposed to: left-handed mouse
so swapped
- forward and back button work in firefox
- scroll up/down works, left/right only tested in firefox
- volume buttons work
- mail starts default mail application (Thunderbird, thank you for changing
default when installing a new app!)
- IM doesn't do anything

If someone could give me the best way to swap the button order of
buttons 1 and 3 per device it would be appreciated, but I'd say this bug
was resolved.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 580946] [NEW] xorg crashes after input in firefox

2010-05-15 Thread Marc Di Meo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Several times already this week xorg has crashed and returned me to the
login window after clicking on a link or entering input in Firefox. As
fas as I can tell it is always when using the imdb.com website. When it
crashes the screen goes black for a second with writing all over it
saying something like cannot write to ... but it goes away too fast.
This is on a new install.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 301958] Re: [needs-packaging] no working driver for sis 671/771 video cards

2010-05-15 Thread Kevin Leighton
Hi I have installed this driver to my laptop today and the resolution is
very good (1280x800) however I find that the video refresh rate for
streaming video is very slow in full screen mode. Perhaps only 2fps?but
the audio is still good.

Playing video locally i.e. DVD is excellent.

If I can give any useful feedback please let me know.

I am am running LinuxMint9 RC1 built on Ubuntu Lucid.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 566375] Re: log spam when detaching a slave device

2010-05-15 Thread Nicolas
Hello,

I encounter these messages on my netbook as well.

Lucid Netbook Edition with kernel 2.6.33-22, using X-server 1.7.6 here.
I currently have some trouble with touchscreen after upgrade from karmic
... maybe this is relevant?

To be honest, I don't understand the detaching slave device part of
the description here ... for me it seems to spam right after bootup.

Another effect might be that my mouse cursor after most logons after bootup
remains in waiting style. Not at logon screen, but after logging in the first
user. To make it difficult, its not after every bootup.
Logging off and on again does not solve the issue. Changing user logins solves
it most of the times.

But maybe this has nothing to do with the problem described here.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 133060] Re: Synaptic touchpad fails to register some of the taps for tap-to-click

2010-05-15 Thread Josh Schneider
Just for giggles, I'm posting again in this thread. I'm finding that in
Lucid (10.04), synaptics 1.2.2-1ubuntu4 is still no better in terms of
accurately registering tap clicks, no matter how I tweak synclient
settings. If anyone can walk me through a patch of this newer driver, it
would be appreciated. I can no longer use my old patched version.
Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 580968] [NEW] No HDMI output with RV870/HD5770

2010-05-15 Thread clesch
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

Displays connected to the HDMI-out of my HD5770 show no signal using the
“xserver-xorg-video-ati” package.

I was able to work around it by connecting my TV via DVI for the
installation, installing fxgrl and then connecting the TV via HDMI
again, but I would prefer to use the FOSS drivers rather than ATI’s
proprietary drivers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 580985] [NEW] DPI of monitor incorrectly set

2010-05-15 Thread Lutz Euler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I just started using Lucid and a new monitor.
xdpyinfo reports 96 DPI while the monitor has 103.

I am using Xorg-Edgers; I hope it's OK to report the problem here
anyway.

According to Xorg.log the physical size and native resolution of the monitor
are correctly
detected but then instead of calculating the DPI from that information, 96 is
used:

[ 3.890] (II) RADEON(0): clock: 154.0 MHz Image Size: 474 x 297 mm
[ 3.890] (II) RADEON(0): Output DVI-0 using initial mode 1920x1200
[ 3.891] (==) RADEON(0): DPI set to (96, 96)

I will try to work around this by creating an /etc/X11/xorg.conf manually
but I expected the DPI to be set correctly without this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 569372] Re: 10.4 Live CD - Blank screen with Radeon 5870

2010-05-15 Thread Mark Duncan
Baboune,

It may be easier to download the alternate install CD then choosing to
boot to a recovery console after installing. Once at the console, you
can install the Radeon drivers and then 10.04 will boot properly. This
is what I had to do to get it installed. Unfortunately, vsync is
completely broken even if you force it so the experience isn't the
greatest (movies are almost unbearable with all the tearing).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 575982] Re: X crashes screen goes between blank and black and white straps. display

2010-05-15 Thread Sulav
this crash of x seems to be triggered when ever screensaver kicks in or
when i go to change some/any screensaver related setting. Sometimes it
happens when i am casually surfing net. So i have done this.

sudo killall gnome-screensaver
gconftool-2 --type boolean -s
/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/screensaver/start_screensaver false

screensaver still did not stop appearing so i did

sudo chmod -x /usr/bin/gnome-screensaver

now crashes are few are far between but none the less they happen
regularly. Specially if i leave computer ideal for 10-20 mins doing
nothing.

Before lucid i could not even once use ubuntu because of x freezes. This
time it is crashing but at least responding to shutdown button press.
Hope you guys fix this issue soon too.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 581052] [NEW] wacom tablet not working on resume from suspend to ram

2010-05-15 Thread zeimusu
Public bug reported:

My wacom intuos 2 tablet would not start working on resume.

I could get it to start by using modprobe to remove, then re-insert the
wacom module.

Following advice in bug 399520 I could fix this by creating a file
/etc/pm/config.d/50wacom containing
SUSPEND_MODULES=wacom

I'm creating this bug as I still have this problem without the above
patch, but the original reporter does not.
