[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 586099] [NEW] Computer consistently gets unresponsive after switching from VTX to VT7 (driver RADEON, Chipset M10)
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have an up to date (2010-27-05) ubuntu lucid. The computer gets unresponsive every time I try to switch to VT1 and VT7. It just hangs; no keyboard or mouseinput(I can see the mouse arrow). This only happens when I am logged in to desktop with graphical Xorg, never from GDM. I have not tried to remote login via SSH. I have had this problem since I first installed Ubuntu Lucid at the release day. It it also consistent on the Ubuntu Live CD. My computer is a centrino based laptop equipped with ATI Mobile 9700 (M11). Everything else seems to work ok, including the boot splash. Looking at Xorg logfile I can't see anything wrong. I don't know how to debug this further, but can provide further information if some guides me. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585853] Re: [Lucid] Not possible to use xdm, only can use gdm
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xdm Bug discovered after upgrading an xdm-using 8.04.2 LTS x86_64-desktop laptop to 10.04 LTS, but now repeated as follows. Take default gdm-using 10.04 LTS x86_64-desktop laptop aptitude install xdm and set xdm as the default window manager restart You will now see the ubuntu white/red dots animation, and that's as far as things go. ctrl-alt f1 gets you a log in prompt ps ax | grep dm shows nothing - so this isn't the same as the both gdm and xdm run bug. In fact ps ax | grep -i x returns nothing. Extras: x.org x server v 1.7.6, intel graphics controller. According to kern.log fb0: inteldrmfb frame buffer device ... drm Initialized i915 vga16fb: not registering due to another framebuffer present so things should be set for X to start, namely drm Initialized looks hopeful Yet running xdm -debug 2 from vt1 shows ... /usr/bin/X :0 vt7 -nolisten tcp -auth /var/lib/xdm/authdir/authfiles/... (all OK) ... (EE) intel(0): [drm] failed to set drm interface version. Failed to become DRM master. failed to get resources: Bad file descriptor Kernel modesetting setup failed (EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a useable configuration. Also surprising as: drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0 open result is 9 (OK) (Chipset GM45) So, how come X thinks drm isn't setup, yet the kernel thinks it is? Work around: put gdm back as default with dpkg-reconfigure {gdm|xdm} Now comparing Xorg.0.log in broken xdm and working gdm cases, xdm has: xf86OpenConsole: setpgid failed: Operation not permitted xf86OpenConsole: setsid failed: Operation not permitted and later drmOpenByBusid returns nothing as opposed to pci::00:02.0 So, why the permission denied? apparmor not treating xdm as well as it treats gdm? So, I just jumped through the hoop to get around the needinfo tag - I think you'll find that all the necessary info is in fact in the original bug report. Extra precise requests for particular experiments to try and particular bits of missing information will gladly be provided. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 586404] [NEW] maximized windows cover two monitors when using 2 X screens (3 monitors)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I've been using dual head with open source ati randeon driver (or with fglrx) for some time and maximized windows only fill one monitor. I've now added a 3rd monitor using displaylink USB graphics card. So I have 2 X screens: one is my ati radeon with 2 monitors, and one is the display link. Windows on the ati which are maximized now fill two monitors instead of just one. xrandr (when run on the 2 screens) reports the two screens properly. xrandr (when run on the 1 screen) reports that properly too. So I don't know why the maximizing should have changed. I'm not using xinerama although when I was it had the same behaviour. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 484875] Re: Nvidia GPU overheating on Toshiba P100
After some more hacking in DSDT, I found that fan control is located in ACPI EC (embedded controller) address space : VTMP acpi byte in acpi EC bit field, at offest 0x5E. If found some similar concerns on some acer laptops (having the same WMI related acpi methods, located in device AMW0), with a perl script that I was able to modify in order to setup a constant fan speed... [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)
I think there's something wrong with v9 of the patch. Stefan Glasenhardt and Brian Rogers's DKMS modules [1] and kernel [2] (respectively) freeze my D505 hard (can't even REISUB) on lid-close. But Daniel Baumann's kernel [3] doesn't freeze on lid-close. The only difference I can see is that Daniel's kernel is dated 4/30 and v9 was posted 5/10. Stefan and Brian's fixes both have v9, but I have no idea what version Daniel has. Guessing v8? Current Lucid kernel (2.6.32-22) and the 2.6.34 mainlines since rc6 all work perfectly on lid-close. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 575943] Re: intel gma x3100 causes many gui issues ubuntu lucid 10.04
Sorry for taking so long to respond, I have tested out Fedora 13 and the bug is not present whatsoever. I can also confirm that sync to vblank in compiz settings has never been checked off. Should I try to use Kernelcheck to upgrade the kernel to 2.6.33 to see if its a problem with 2.6.32?
