[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 593593] [NEW] display corrupt/garbles after waking up monitor

2010-06-14 Thread Erwin Olario
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

This is a recent problem, never experienced it before.

I'm using XFCE as DE in Ubuntu Lucid. This laptop uses an ATI Radeon
Xpress 200M card

After I wake up my laptop, the display will show up corrupt or garbled.
As a workaround, I need to open the xfce4-display-settings, change the
resolution from my default (1280x800) to something else, hit apply, then
set it back to 1280x800 again.

I can trigger the problem by running this in a terminal:
xset -display :0 dpms force off

To temporarily prevent the problem from occuring, I disabled the monitor
from turning off when not in use.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 133060] Re: Synaptic touchpad fails to register some of the taps for tap-to-click

2010-06-14 Thread Nicolas Cavallari
Well, seems that the problem got fixed, but another code was added that
broke the thing again.

I bet those lines in synaptics.c:1473 ( in HandleTapProcessing() ) are
responsible :

switch (priv-tap_state) {
[...]
case TS_1:
if (move) {
[...]
} else if (release) {
SelectTapButton(priv, edge);

/// these ones
/* Disable taps outside of the active area */
if (!inside_active_area) {
priv-tap_button = 0;
}

but the inside_active_area calculation is made at line 2170 with the
current value of hw-x and y, that is, the one that are no longer
relevant (1,5855), so the assumption 'if there is no finger, there is no
position' is violated.

can someone test removing the 'if (!inside_active_area) {
priv-tap_button = 0; }' and see if this fix the problem ?

i'm gonna try it later, i don't have time now.

2010-06-14 Thread Agent N2O
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

When waking from sleep mode, I have to be careful not to move the mouse
around as the mouse pointer will get trapped btw to two screens of a
dual screen setup. Once stuck the mouse will stay stuck in that location
and will flash and the whole system will be frozen and need to be reset
manually. I have been using the space bar to wake the system and that
seems to work. Mine is a multi-user system also and the problem only

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507148] Re: [lucid] desktop runs out of video memory on ATI Radeon Mobility 7500

2010-06-14 Thread Jamie Strandboge
M E, the splash screen issue is bug #564471. You can workaround this by
removing the 'splash' option from GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT in
/etc/default grub and running 'sudo update-grub'.

Regarding the system going to black, I have seen this on a T40 too and
it is a significant regression. Can you file a new bug and reference it
here? It would be great if you could provide steps to reproduce as well.
Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 578224] Re: [radeon driver] (regression) poor video decoding performance

2010-06-14 Thread Хаджиев
I'm going to wait a little. Now the system is running without KMS
support and the performance is pretty much the same as in Ubuntu 9.10.

I'll retest with xorg ver. 1.9 and Kernel ver. 2.6.35 when they're
pulled in the Ubuntu Maverick repo.

Thanks for your efforts, madbiologist!

on 2.6.33 and higher. It's reported in bug 585759.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 593463] Re: xsession crash and consecutive loss of dri/drm capability on i915

The behavior of the system at the time of crash differs quite much from
those reported in #528467 et al. In my case I just lose drm/dri,
everything else remains functioning as it should. This makes it a
distinct bug

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 477105] Re: wacom bamboo pen touch not working in karmic

2010-06-14 Thread Jeremy Foshee
Hi Oscar,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release
of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If the issue remains, please
run the following command from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach
updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 477105

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be
great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be
done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the
bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.
Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 572550] Re: Panel utilities not shown on startup using Matrox gfx with compiz

2010-06-14 Thread mishabhi
same problem .. blank screen after log on .. right click gets the entire
desktop immediately.

but neither a new installation, nor a Matrox card in my case.
Mine is ATI FireGL5200 and I was using this install of lucid for more than a
week

I did do some tweaking with the appearance I installed a theme from
gnome.org (Alphacube Metacity)

I also changed the wallpaper and firefox theme (hopefully those wouldn't
cause this problem)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 586402] [NEW] Scrolling with touchpad sometimes doesn't work

2010-06-14 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have Dell Studio 1535 laptop with Alps touchpad. Scrolling in right
part of the touchpad usually works, but sometimes it just does not. When
it is not working, touchpad tab is not shown in mouse configuration tool
in gnome and there is no way to enable the scrolling again. I have to
reboot (sometimes several times) so that the scrolling works again.

Relevant part from Xorg.log.0:

(II) config/udev: Adding input device PS/2 ALPS GlidePoint (/dev/input/event14)
(**) PS/2 ALPS GlidePoint: Applying InputClass evdev pointer catchall

2010-06-14 Thread Leo Arias
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes

2010-06-14 Thread Tech2010
I seem to still have the freeze. This is an Atom2 motherboard. The BIOS
suggests using 2GB DDR2 memory with 5-5-5-15 (667MHz) timings, but the
board is equipped with a 2GB 6-6-6-18 (800MHz). Because of the sudden
death of the freeze, I started to wonder about memory. So, I wrote a
little program that allocates memory until it fails to allocate memory.
Real memory usage topped out at 90% and the remainder was swapped out.
The program reported in the neighborhood of 3GB allocated. I did not do
extensive read/write verifications and memtest will not run on this
system (never has - exits reporting not enough memory to run).

This bug *is* about screens with negative numbers. 570151 is *your* bug and
it is NOT a duplicate of this bug. As you said, your bug doesn't involve

this is going to be a subtle bug.

This problem usually occurs a lot when I am reading a PDF in Evince but
it can happen when I am just at the desktop as well. If I open another

I have also tried running the sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg command

bump.

Keyboard shortcuts only get this system's user so far and I'm on an island
where I can't just go and buy a mouse.
What can I do to help fixing this?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes

2010-06-14 Thread phlip lawrence
Fresh install of 10.04, seeing lock ups every couple of days, seemingly random.
This system has been running 8.04 with no issues. On a couple of occasions
while displaying video from firefox, also overnight when screen has been
locked. Mouse + keyboard locked, screen showing purple Ubuntu boot screen,
Flashing LEDs on keyboard and no response to 'ping'. After pressing 'reset'
button on box the system fails to clean reboot and needs a power off/on to get
a clean reboot. I have disabled all power management without any change. As
above, I turned off visual effects early on but made no difference.
I also have a laptop which has never had this problem. Is there any info I can
provide from these systems to assist with this issue.

2010-06-14 Thread Tech2010
Can you tell me if your system has an error in the logs for a GPU
lockup? Or another drm error?

Also, does your motherboard use the CPU to manage workload for the GPU?

Anything like this in there?

  Jun 13 11:39:28 ATOM2 kernel: [30231.584518]
[drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung
  Jun 13 11:39:28 ATOM2 kernel: [30231.584564]
[drm:i915_do_wait_request] *ERROR* i915_do_wait_request returns -5

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 90434] Re: please enable dontzap by default

2010-06-14 Thread damian
If you can't manage not to type this key combination then you really
should question whether you're able to use a computer at all.

He is right you know. Its absurd than anyone could press those buttons
accidentally.

If you would be to press them accidentally theres a bigger problem at
hand..

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 591656] Re: scrolling issues using touchpad

2010-06-14 Thread simar
hnrkg, your information was helpful a bit but i'm still not able to
reproduce the bug. I have the same driver xserver-xorg-inout-synaptics
but there are no such unnatural behaviour.

To get more close to your bug hnrkg, I have a few points
1. Are you able to reproduce the bug now. I mean do still have the unusual
behaviour.
2. The configration utility you are using is gsynaptics which is rather old now
and ready to be removed from the universe. There appears to error in your
gsynaptics. I would advice you to get a modern replacement of gsynaptics ie
gpointing-device-settings. Try to search 'gsynaptics' in
SystemAministrationSynaptics Package Manager . Install the
gpointing-device-settings. Your gsynaptics will be automatically removed.

3.After trying this please see if you can reproduce the bug again.
4.Also try to verify if there is a error right in your hardware. hint- use some
other os to confim..

Regards

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes

2010-06-14 Thread G. Steel
I think my problem is:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/475429

I just leave visual effects off and now no more freezes. When I turn on
either Normal or Extra in System Preferences Appearance the keyboard
and mouse freeze. I can ssh in and reboot.

Shouldn't the status of this bug be HIGH and not incomplete? The
original poster did test a bunch in message #11.

Good luck!
