[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 462168] Re: dual monitors not working on upgrade to karmic
Tim, thanks for you concern, but the machine in question is my $work machine so the time available to play with it is somewhat limited (ironically, this is why I've chosen Ubuntu in the first place). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 538346] Re: Display manager in Ubuntu 9.10 not working with dual displays properly
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Hi, I have recently moved to Ubuntu 9.10 (karmic) and am running Kernal Linux 2.6.31-19-generic-pae and gnome 2.28.1. I have a dual monitor running off Geforce 8600 GT video card. The device driver on xorg.conf have been set to the genetic "nv" drivers w/ display setting used to allow the primary monitor to bleed into the second screen rather than using the propriety "nvidia" drivers w/ twinspan option on (this caused conflicts with various java programs I am using). The problem is that when booting the system I find that although visually the screens look OK, when I try and drag a window into the second screen 90% of the window will go but 10% will not -- it is as if I hit a wall. If I use "configure the display settings" to mirror the screens (and apply), then untick mirror screens(and apply), the screens are OK again -- i.e. the windows can be dragged back and forth OK. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for the response. I think I might have been lucky to see this message, since virtually all other times the system was frozen without a related message. If you know the CPU, you can see/ask what it might do for the GPU. I run the Atom and it helps send work to the GPU. When you boot the next time, could you see if the BIOS reports the memory configuration? My timings are 6-6-6-18 but 5-5-5-15 is recommended. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 542660] Re: New Apple iMac (Core i5) fails to display anything
I found another easiest way to completly install lucid on IMAC 27 inch. - Install Karmic using normal CD (not alternate), and pressing F4 with "Safe video mode" activated just before install. - Go to system > Synaptic. in the search field, type X11. Select all still installed packages (green icon) and choose (in the menu) "Force keeping current version" - close synaptic, and make a classic update (system > admministration > update manager). Refresh, and "New version lucid lynx available" - Update with Lucid. Sometimes, after installed lucid, it will boot on a black screen with safe command line : $inftramp: just turn off imac, et power it with "ESC" key pressing down ALL TIME do not release the key until lucid boot, but for me that works (strange, isn't it ?). - After booting lucid, in a terminal, type : sudo aptitude update sudo aptitude -f install - Download (where you want) lastest ati drivers (actually 10.5) here : https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati- driver-installer-10-5-x86.x86_64.run in a terminal (in the folder you downloaded the drivers) : sudo sh ati-driver-installer-10-5-x86.x86_64.run --buildandinstallpkg (--buildandinstallpkg is very important flag, I never getting lastest drivers working without this flag). After install succes, reboot. Everything work amazingly ! and now, you can apt-get update and apt-get upgrade if you want ! Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 591656] Re: scrolling issues using touchpad
I tried to keep the cursor movements as "clean" possible. I can actually see "the jump" in xev.txt from about the two last "MotionNotify" events at the end of the file, but that's about it. Now, let's hope someone else sees more than I do. Well, #2 isn't really an issue anymore due to gpointing-device-settings; let's just leave it and focus on #1 as Gier Ove Myhr proposed. Maybe I'll file another bug for not being able to "scroll continuously" anymore. ** Attachment added: "xev.txt" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/50400750/xev.txt -- scrolling issues using touchpad https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/591656 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 594855] [NEW] Xorg graphic corruption on resume with nouveau driver
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg This is a clean install of Lucid 64-bit Beta 1 with all the upgrades through this morning. I have run Memtest for ~13 hours with no errors. System -> Administration -> Disk Utilities SMART Status shows that the one disk in the system is healthy. This system resumes normally using the nvidia current driver, but had occasional kernel panics that seemed associated with rsync which made me switch to the nouveau driver using the procedure described in the Freeze Troubleshooting Wiki for cleaning out the nvidia drivers completely. Attached is a portion of the syslog that was collected following one of the attempts to resume the machine showing some of the errors reported with nouveau. Sometimes, I can switch into a terminal from the corrupted X screen, other times, I have to use Alt+SysReq+RSEIUB and then Ctrl+Alt+Del to get a reboot or use a hard reset. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes
All, please note from the earlier posts florianr, myself, and others confirmed that the freezing we were seeing could still happen without X and the desktop running, and on very different video hardware. If your bug seems to be graphics related, you should probably report it separately. I can confirm that I'm still seeing freezes under the latest lucid 2.6.32-23-generic and 2.6.32-23-preempt. Further testing shows that if I boot with kernel parameters "noapic nolapic" then the freezing does not happen. I'm currently writing this while playing 720p video, ripping a DVD in Handbrake, recording an HD video in mythtv, commercial flagging a program, running virtualbox (busy doing a virus scan) and playing audio in amarok. While the system is pausing occasionally under the CPU/disk/memory load no freeze. A torture test that would be sure to freeze in a few seconds if I ran without "noapic nolapic". Further, if I boot with kernel parameter "noacpi" I still have freezes it has no effect on it's own. Again, this is a regression from karmic where I could run without "noapic nolapic". -- Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/585765 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 566896] Re: [feature request] mapping of minimized windows
Just want to make you guys aware that this bug has been addressed in KDE. It is an option in the "display" settings in the systems settings that also currently carries a warning that it "breaks minimize". What I think (I've not confirmed it) they have done is that kwin is faking minimize by hiding windows, but still making their content visible to the internal KDE implementation of compiz. This way windows are not visible to you, but are visible to the compositing engine. Works quite nice with the KDE "place windows" task switcher, which is a better version of compiz's "scale" plugin. I just wish KDE was a little faster. -- [feature request] mapping of minimized windows https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/566896 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 558596] Re: xorg crashes after switching from tty7 -> tty1 -> tty7
I'am able to reproduce this consistently. Configuration: HP laptop nx7400, Intel GMA 950. HP LP2475w 1920x1200 external display connected to the laptop via VGA1 no xorg.conf, default desktop effects enabled In my account I have enabled the external display (VGA1) and disabled the laptop display (LVDS1) from graphical preferences dialog. Laptop lid is open all the time. Here is the xrandr output: --- ~$ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1920 x 1200, maximum 4096 x 4096 VGA1 connected 1920x1200+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 546mm x 352mm 1920x1200 60.0*+ 59.9 --clip--- LVDS1 connected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 1680x1050 60.1 + --clip-- TV1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) Steps to reproduce: 1. Reboot 2. Type in Luks password (I have encrypted root) (both laptop and external are displaying the same image) 3. Log in (again both laptop and external displaying the same image) After login only external VGA1 is displaying image. 4. Press: Ctrl+Alt+F1, result: both laptop and external display are displaying the same image 5. Press: Ctrl+Alt+F7, EXPECTED result: back to the logged in desktop, ACTUAL result: login screen displaying that nobody is logged in anymore 6. Log in. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes
I was able to reconfigure my HP desktop from scratch with 4 concurrent OS after visiting my hardware supplier|: Windows Vista on one disk and different Linux brands on the other disk with: 1) OpenSuse 11.2 with kernel: 2.3.31 and a Gnome like (Xorg ?) 2) Fedora 13 with kernel: 2.6.33.5 (gnome) (Xorg nouveau) 3) Gentoo with kernel 2.6.32.-r7 (kde) (nvidia) The HP had no crash or freezing problem using any of the OS so far. Previously I mentioned I had crashes with Ubuntu lucid (2.6.32:22) with and without nvidia for the GUI and even without a Gui driver like Xorg and/or nvidia. Not able to ping the system after freezing. REISBUD failed too. I noticed that the problems became more severe after introduction of 2.6.32:22 kernel. The gentoo kernel 2.6.32.7 I am using at this moment is stable so far. So probably not a pure kernel problem I stated before in entries of thisbug that perhaps power management and/heating could be the problem looking at the behaviour of my HP refusing to boot immediately after resetting (too hot to pass the bios?!). Of course other programs/utilities installed when 2.6.32:22 was introduced and perhaps using 99.9-100 % of the CPU, could be another explanation of the the random freezes. To judge that I leave it to the team responsible for integration testing of ubuntu I can understand that although we have more more than 48 pages of complaints and tests on Ubuntu forum (is that a historical record?) http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1478787&page=48 and more than 70 entries on this bug report, it is not clear what the problem is. To set the status to "incomplete" for this bug report, I can understand from a software maintenance point of view. There is no clarity at all what is really the bug. As usual the define the correct and complete bug report is already more than 75 % of its solution. To define a proper (integrating) testing plan may help too to isolate the bug(s) Regarding the current release , it is better to define it as a pre-alpha one. Perhaps I may return to use Ubuntu again when 11.x has been released and is operational for a couple of month. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 591656] Re: scrolling issues using touchpad
hnrkg, one thing that I think may help the developers to identify the problem is if you could use the program xev to capture the input events that the xserver receives. For #1, you can run `xev -geometry 900x100-0+120 > ~/xev.txt`. That will give you a 900 px wide and 100 pixel high window at the right hand side of the screen and events are captured as long as the mouse pointer is inside the window. Drag the mouse pointer right inside the window and make it jump all the way to the right, still within the window, by touching the scroll area. Close the window with Alt+F4 (in order to not generate more mouse pointer moving events). Take care to not drag the mouse pointer over the window any more than necessary during this, since it will create noise in the log. Upload xev.txt here. I don't quite understand #2, but you could probably do something similar. I would anyway recommend focusing on #1 here, since having more than one issue in one bug report is strongly discouraged. -- scrolling issues using touchpad https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/591656 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I am interested in becoming more involved in the process. I will read into what you posted, and will try to find another bug that I can reproduce. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 594702] [NEW] bottom 1/3 of mouse cursor flickers in and out of existance
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg When moving mouse around the screen the bottom 1/3 of mouse cursor flickers in and out of existence. The PC is a Dell Dimension 4400. Lspci reports the graphics card as: VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage 128 Pro Ultra TF I have tried different refresh rates and resolutions but nothing I tried so far helps. I can provide Dell Service Tag is that is useful. This also happens in Lucid Lynx. I was hoping it would get fixed in Maverick Meerkat but no luck so far. Best regards, Kajetan. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 563100] Re: Mouse movement corrupted with Xinerama enabled
For bugs in stable releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates Bugs in general: For plain old patches that are not upstream yet, subscribe ubuntu-reviewers and add the patch tag (if the patch had been actually attached to the bug and marked as a patch rather than just linked, this would have been automatic). That team will review the patch and send it upstream. If it's urgent (ie, can't wait for a new upstream release and just go into a future version of Ubuntu), someone on that team will find someone to make a debdiff (or do it themself). For debdiffs or already-upstream patches, subscribe ubuntu-sponsors. Of course, if the person in the Reviews team who comes across the bug has upload rights, they can push things through pretty quickly. I don't have upload rights for main, so while I could do the debdiff and put packages in my PPA to get the fix confirmed by all you folks, I still needed to point Alberto over here and ask him to sponsor it. If you'd like to help move such things through faster in future, learning to make debdiffs and upload test packages to a PPA would be helpful. Having your packages tested & confirmed helps make an easier case to the SRU team. PS: there is an effort to get all patches currently attached to bug reports on Launchpad reviewed (sent upstream if good, rejected with explanation of what's wrong if bad, forwarded to sponsors if upstream) by the time 10.10 is released. That's Operation Cleansweep ( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OperationCleansweep ) and your help would be greatly appreciated :) -- Mouse movement corrupted with Xinerama enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/563100 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495553] Re: [K8M800] Lucid 10.04 live-CD login failure, Screen origin shifted to center, screen wraps, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid
As of today, this bug is still in effect. The most important issue is that text consoles can't be used. Booting and screen sizing issues can be worked around, especially for the Gnome version, since the System>Preferences>Monitor dialog is accessible from top-panel menus; that's more difficult in the case of KDE. Note that an upgraded kernel was found to solve the text console problem, but it introduced other problems. The problems seem to be the same (or worse) booting the 10.10 alpha-1 live CD. Can this be fixed for 10.04.1? -- [K8M800] Lucid 10.04 live-CD login failure, Screen origin shifted to center, screen wraps, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/495553 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
