[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 589940] Re: [arrandale] maverick alpha 1 live doesn't display desktop
There is a kernel patch on the intel-gfx mailing list that may fix this. http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-gfx/2010-June/007216.html . Unfortunately, it is quite involved to patch the kernel and respin a new iso-image in order to test it. Would you have the possibility to install Maverick on a test partition? Then it is possible to install different kernels in parallel. -- [arrandale] maverick alpha 1 live doesn't display desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/589940 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 589275] Re: firefox fills disk in .xsession-errors error checking orientation
It's just happened to me too. It happens often when I use trasmission and firefox. Ubuntu 10.04 says there is no more space left and it opens up that program that counts the disk space. Well the home folder of mine has few little things, no more than 100 mb but that program says there are 2-3 GB used! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 561802] Re: [lucid] [i915] blank screen on Latitude E6410
I can confirm the same problem on my new E6410 w/Intel graphics card. All hints here helped me installing 10.04 (kubuntu) using the alternate amd64-cd und updating the system in a recovery shell. But trying to restart in normal mode always results in a black screen with blinking nun/caps lock leds even nomodeset or whatever was mentioned above doesn't help. Starting with i915.blacklist=true xforcevesa results in a pink screen and text VT showing alternaty for 10-15 seconds. After that there is a black screen again but w/o blinking leds. Althoung hitting the caps lock key does not change the led state the system make a shutdown when pressing the off button. So vesa does not work, too. So there is no chance to get it running now? :-( -- [lucid] [i915] blank screen on Latitude E6410 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/561802 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Applied the patch to 2.6.34 from kernel.org and it works. However as with err_most+=50 I still get the wrong resolution on external monitor when booting with VGA Cable connected. 2.6.32, which didn't have the KMS bug, booted with correct resolution on external monitor. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 549727] Re: [10.04] Touchpad stops working after login
Poster #83 got it right. The issue is caused by gnome-settings-daemon. There is, however, no need to adjust/recompile any code. Hi, I was having the same issue. I believe that the Synaptics touchpad driver and Gnome both disable the touchpad individually. For some reason, Gnome (in particular gnome-settings-daemon) fails to re-enable it; which is why you end up with a dead touchpad, once you disable it. Here is what fixed it for me (HP Pavilion DV6730ec): First of all, open a terminal. Press Alt+F1 to open the applications menu and choose the Terminal application from the accessories or use an external mouse to so. To bring your touchpad back to life, enter the following command: Code: gconftool --type bool --set /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/touchpad_enabled true The key /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/touchpad_enabled is where gnome-settings-daemon remembers that you disabled your touchpad. This is the reason, why it is disabled even after a reboot. The issue will re-appear, next time you disable your touchpad. You need to prevent gnome-settings-daemon from disabling your touchpad in the first place, because the Synaptics touchpad driver does this already. To do so, run the following command in a terminal: Code: gconftool-2 --type string --set /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/keybindings/touchpad This dissociates the key to lock your touchpad from gnome-settings- daemon. If for any reason, the latter command breaks the lock touchpad support for you, than you probably have a different issue. To re- associate the key with gnome-settings-daemon, run this command: gconftool-2 --type string --set /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/keybindings/touchpad XF86TouchpadToggle Hope this helps. I recommend rebooting after this procedure and check if this really fixed it for good. I noticed that the error only occurs only once after a reboot. -- [10.04] Touchpad stops working after login https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/549727 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 598481] [NEW] video unusable after 10.04 installation
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Briefly, I installed 10.04 from CD on older PC, was able to log into my account but desktop did not display panels at top or bottom of screen, so I could not launch any apps via GUI. Tried various things, finally got it to display panels, now everything seems to be working except that there are vertical strips about 3cm apart, seem to be 1-2 pixels wide, that rapidly flicker. Would like to eliminate strips and flicker. Here is more detail. Machine is custom made, about 8 years old, 512MB ram, 40GB hard drive. Since I couldn't launch anything with the GUI, I opened CLI terminal and determined the following. I ran lspci, found out this about the video controller: VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82815 Chipset Graphics Controller (CGC) (rev 02) Monitor is Philips 190B (flat screen). I looked up specs on the web, and found this: Horiz Freq: 30-83 Khz Vert Freq: 56-75 Hz recommended mode: 1280x1024 @ 60Hz Then I executed: sudo DISPLAY=:0.0 xrandr -q: got this output: Screen 0: minimum 640 x 400, current 1280 x 1024, maximum 1280 x 1024 default connected 1280x1024+0+0 0mm x 0mm 1280x1024 60.0* 75.0 1280x960 60.0 1152x864 75.0 70.0 60.0 1024x768 75.0 70.0 60.0 832x624 75.0 800x600 75.0 72.0 60.0 56.0 640x480 75.0 73.0 67.0 60.0 720x400 70.0 Then I found a sample xorg.conf file on the web, installed it, and tried again. I'm not an expert at this. This time I did get the panels at the top and bottom of the screen, everything seems ok except for the vertical, blinking strips which are rather distracting. So I read man xorg.conf and tried to put more specific details in the xorg.conf file. I did this one step at a time, testing each step, but never managed to get rid of vertical strips. My final xorg.conf file is this: Section Device Identifier Configured Video Device Driver intel EndSection Section Monitor Identifier Configured Monitor VendorName Philips ModelName 190B Flat Screen HorizSync 30-83 VertRefresh 56-75 DisplaySize 376.3 301.1 Modeline 1280x1024_60.00 108.88 1280 1360 1496 1712 1024 1025 1028 1060 -H Sync +Vsync EndSection Section Screen Identifier Default Screen Monitor Configured Monitor Device Configured Video Device DefaultDepth 24 SubSection Display Viewport 0 0 Depth 24 Modes 1280x1024 1024x768 800x600 EndSubSection EndSection I got the modeline from gtf (tried earlier with cvt with same results). Here is some more information. The flickering strips occur only at 1280x1024 resolution. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 538430] Re: [VX800] Ubuntu 10.04 alpha 3 boot corrupts screen (A110 netbook)
Hi Maik, This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux 538430 Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. [This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.] ** Tags added: needs-kernel-logs ** Tags added: needs-upstream-testing ** Tags added: kj-triage ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- [VX800] Ubuntu 10.04 alpha 3 boot corrupts screen (A110 netbook) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/538430 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 598645] [NEW] backlight off after resume from suspend
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel The issue is simple: just close the lid of my netbook and wait until it suspends. open the lid and wait for it to power up. the machine is running but now backlight. I can see that something is on the screen. After digging through the forums I found a workaround: just change the brightness with Fn+F3 or Fn+F4. The strange thing is that this didn't happen with 9.10 or 10.4 (updated from 9.10). I had to reinstall the machine (broken HDD) and this started to happen. zvaral, could you boot with the kernel parameter drm.debug=0x04 and remove quiet splash just to simplify the boot process. Then upload the output of dmesg. We would also like the output of intel_reg_dumper and a video bios dump taken according to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingXorg#Obtaining%20the%20video%20BIOS . Your Xrandr.txt (output of `xrandr -q --verbose`) also looks strange, but I suppose that is because you reported the bug from a remote connection. Susan, I agree that your wishlist suggestion may be a good idea, but I don't think this is a good place to raise it is not likely to be read by the people who put these things into place. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 598682] [NEW] gnome-panel missing
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg If I enable the location information in the weather applet and get weather info, the gnome panel at both the top and bottom will be missing after a reboot. The problem appeared after I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04. I partly solve the problem by following way. gconftool --recursive-unset /apps/panel rm -rf ~/.gconf/apps/panel And then I reboot and the panel appears. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 508699] Re: [K8M800] Xorg freeze / Kernel 2.6.32-10-generic freeze
Dear All, I operate a server (no keyboard, no mouse, integrated intel video i82G33/G31). When I switched from 8.04 LTS to 10.04 LTS the server stated to freeze after a few minutes of operation. Normal access to the command line is via SSH. On learning from the web about the intel driver/X problem I shut gdm down intending to finish the configuration of other services (this is a SAMBA and LAMP server). The server still froze after a few minutes or hours. I only observed one case of desktop freeze since I only ran one interactive graphic session. I downgraded the kernel from (lucid-updates 2.6.32-22) to (lucid 2.6.32-21). The same kernel mentioned above (i386 generic-pae in my case). The sitation improved: the server stayed online for several hours, but never lasted a day. I reenabled KMS, and generally applied all the recipes listed in the Ubuntu.fr forum which do not degrade 3D performance. I installed more recent intel 2.9.1 drivers to no effect. With KMS the i915 driver stays loaded all the time and cannot be unloaded, but with gdm stopped and no interactive session it shouldn't have been exercized significantly. The solution came from the installation of lucid's 2.6.31-rt kernel, which works for me, as it worked for Thomas (post #54). Other symptoms are similar: no oops recoverable, no crash file, nothing relating to a serious kernel problem in any log file. I did not try to store log file remotely though. The freeze seems to be instantaneous, but it is not related directly to graphical session activity. -- [K8M800] Xorg freeze / Kernel 2.6.32-10-generic freeze https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508699 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
