[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 593593] Re: display corrupt/garbles after waking up monitor

2010-07-03 Thread Erwin Olario
These past few days, it seems to get triggered by the LCD waking up from
idle. As where before, I only usually encounter it after waking up from
hibernation or sleep.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 601308] [NEW] Add alias for ru_UA.utf8 to /usr/share/X11/locale/locale.alias

2010-07-03 Thread olksy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libx11-data

I selected system language Russian (Ukraine), so that

$ locale
LANG=ru_UA.utf8
LANGUAGE=ru_UA:ru
LC_CTYPE=ru_UA.utf8
LC_NUMERIC=ru_UA.utf8
LC_TIME=ru_UA.utf8

LC_ADDRESS=ru_UA.utf8
LC_TELEPHONE=ru_UA.utf8
LC_MEASUREMENT=ru_UA.utf8
LC_IDENTIFICATION=ru_UA.utf8
LC_ALL=

But /usr/share/X11/locale/locale.alias does not contain ru_UA.utf8.
Hovewer, it contains ru_RU.utf8 alias as

ru_RU.utf8  ru_RU.UTF-8

Can someone, who know how locale works, explain why ru_UA.utf8 is missed
from alias file?

I confused with this problem, because if I use ru_UA.utf8 locale, wine
does not allow to type in cyrillic. If I use ru_RU.UTF-8, that is all
ok.

Cyrillic in wine gets broken for ru_UA.utf8 locale after upgrading to
Lucid.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 601366] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2010-07-03 Thread Robert B
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

So, my X session suddenly became stuck. I was moving around the mouse
cursor with the touchpad when it froze. I was using Firefox and about
to click on a tab.

I happened to have had an opportunity to log into this laptop from a
desktop (via ssh) and poke around. I first killed the gnome-session.
No go. Then, I tried killing X. It wouldn't die -- a ps revealed
D, as in it was waiting on a device (it wasn't clear which device). I
killed the parent gdm process, but X was still around and the screen
still frozen. Since killing X was impossible (and therefore CTL-ALT-F1
not an option), I did a sudo reboot to reboot the system.

I should note that I had logged off my session and logged on a few
times. I don't usually do this. I was hoping to get the touchpad wheel
scrolling to work better (it's too slow) in my VNC client, but logging
off and on didn't help.

(FWIW, I'm wondering if this is related to my previously reported
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screensaver/+bug/587668
regarding blank screen freezes.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 601370] [NEW] unable to change scaling mode (thinkpad t410, lucid, intel arrandale graphics)

2010-07-03 Thread mukesh agrawal
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I have a T410 that I want to use for a presentation. Because the built-in
LCD has a higher resolution (1440x900) than the projector, I want to
set the LCD resolution to something lower (likely 1024x768), and then
mirror its contents on the projector.

The problem I run in to is that when I set the resolution on the LCD to
1024x768, the screen contents are stretched to fit the entire screen.
Since the aspect ratios differ (4:3 for the projector, and 16:10 for the
LCD), this display is distorted on the LCD.

I've tried changing the scaling mode with xrandr, as follows:

$ xrandr --output LVDS1 --set scaling mode Center

But that does not fix the problem. While it does not report
any errors (either on the console, or in Xorg.0.log), it also
does not change how the display. This is true despite the
fact that xrandr --prop reports that the scaling mode has
been changed.

$ xrandr --prop

Note that this bug report is similar to 458571, in that both
deal with scaling mode on Intel graphics. However, in that
bug report, the above command fixes the problem.

(In case the xrandr information about HDMI1 is confusing, I should
note that I'm testing this while using a large LCD as the external
display, since I don't have a projector handy.)

There are a couple of web pages [1][2] that report that this issue
might be resolved in version 2.9.1 of the Intel graphics driver.
But that seems not to be the issue here, as I'm running...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 592802] Re: maverick kernel 2.6.35-2 boots to black screen hang

2010-07-03 Thread jerrylamos
Alpha 2 linux 2.6.35-6 still has the same problems, on i845G requires
i915.modeset=0 in linux boot line and Driver vesa in xorg.conf
otherwise X hangs big time.

Alpha 2 CD Live did boot without these workarounds. It had one
recovered crash which I reported, didn't copy the bug #, seemed to be
the usual Gtk failure.

Alpha 1 linux 2.6.34-5 still runs O.K. without the workarounds so both
the intel driver and that maverick kernel work. Anyone know what
changed? (I suppose a lot...)

2010-07-03 Thread Andreas Tarp
Hi,

I have an similar problem on Kubuntu 10.4. Each time I connect an
external Monitor to my laptop (ati X1300 graphic board) and run

 xrandr --output LVDS --auto --output VGA-0 --auto --right-of LVDS

the machine freezes at once. Same command was working fine on Kubuntu
9.10 to switch to dual screen usage.

Attached lspci -vvnn and xorg.0.log

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 601388] [NEW] /etc/xorg.conf.d hangs x11

2010-07-03 Thread Andrew
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I created an /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-logitechmouse.conf file, and it
is working fine, but since a configuration file does not belong in the
/usr directory, I tried moving it to
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-logitechmouse.conf.

When I do so, the gdm screen is useless, not responding to my mouse or
keyboard.

According to google searches, fedora supports the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d,
can we get this supported in Ubuntu?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 589940] Re: [arrandale] maverick alpha 1 live doesn't display desktop

2010-07-03 Thread Glen Ditchfield
Kubuntu Maverick alpha 2: as before, the Live CD boots to a black
screen. A small regression: when booted with nomodeset, X does not
come up in a low-graphics mode. Instead, after two attempts the
computer drops to a command line. I assume the log files are of no
particular interest.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 589940] Re: [arrandale] maverick alpha 1 live doesn't display desktop

2010-07-03 Thread Glen Ditchfield
I installed Kubuntu Maverick alpha 2, then installed the
2010-07-02-maverick linux-*2.6.35-999.201007021009_* debs.  The display
now lights up. The built-in keyboard and trackpad are not responsive,
but a USB mouse and keyboard work. (The built-in keyboard did work in
alpha-2's console before installing the 20100702 debs, but does not work
now.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 557810] Re: X system crash after user change

2010-07-03 Thread Michael Nagel
I cannot reproduce the problem with a fresh install of lucid. The
problem did occur with a system I upgraded from intrepid (I think it was
intrepid) but does no longer occur with the fresh install. The hardware
was unchanged except for the harddisk but I do not think that should
matter. There have been various changes to the configuration files in
/etc/ however.

madmed This bug report is a duplicate of the bug report 365943 in which
you had commented in a back date. This is not a good practise to
generate duplicate bug reports. This only makes the process of bug
triaging and bug handling more clumsy and delayed. This is in interest
of the ubuntu community and its users me and you.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes

2010-07-03 Thread k...@perfectreign.com
I just posted this on the ubuntuforums also. I have a desktop running
on my firewall as a proxy server. I upgraded it from 9.1 to 10.04 and
waited to see how it went. So far, so good. I've had it up for fifteen
days. No X or wireless running. (By the way, both my laptop - which
failed miserably with 10.04 and was backed off to 9.1 - and my desktop
are Intel-based systems.)

 Bug description:
 [Workaround 1]
 Install Andy Whitcroft's test kernel from
 http://people.canonical.com/~apw/lp538648-lucid/ (see comment #88).

 [Workaround 2]
 As workaround add the option i915.powersave=0 to the kernel command line in
 the grub config (for GRUB 2: edit /etc/default/grub and add
  i915.powersave=0 to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX, then run sudo update-grub; for GRUB
 1: edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and add i915.powersave=0 to the end of the line
 beginning with # kopt=, then run sudo update-grub).

 [Report]
 Binary package hint: xserver-xorg

 When I first installed Lucid on my T500 I believe everything seemd to be
 fine with the display. Recently though the screen has started giving
 flashes -- as though there was some form of sync problem for the display.
  The flashes are of irregular frequency and occurrence. I haven't yet seen
 any pattern to the behaviour. They are however exceptionally annoying.

 I believe I am using the Intel chipset graphics device -- I am not
 actually aware of how to switch to using the alternate graphics hardware,
 but I am told it is not worth bothering with, so I haven't.

 I am using the Compiz window manager so I guess the problem could be there
 rather than with Xorg.

 There is no xorg.conf file so there is no overide of the default behaviour.

 I am not sure what programs to run to give useful output for this problem.
  I have attached the current Xorg log file.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 598366] Re: touchpad not recognized

2010-07-03 Thread tmokeefe
I do not have a mouse attached to the laptop. At one point since owning
this laptop I did attach an external, wireless USB mouse/keyboard (by
Logitech). I'm not sure if that explains why those entries might exist.

None of the files I've attached throughout this bug did I have that
external keyboard/mouse attached to the laptop. I figured as you pointed
out that this would only be a source of confusion.

I will attach the dmesg output to this comment and the Xorg.0.log to the

dual-boot what the other OS reports the touchpad as? Since it is

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 568064] Re: Wacom new bamboo models are not recognized in Lucid

2010-07-03 Thread pererik87
I made a blog post about the taylor package and new wacoms on Ubuntu,
its raking in a average of 5 hits a day on a blog with total average of
about 40 hits per day. This is a problem for many more people than this
bug report gives it impression of. This bug affects at least 2000
people, probably more.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 371295] Re: Bullets marks show a black box in openoffice writer

2010-07-03 Thread Renato S. Yamane
Bryce,
This bug was fixed after install openoffice.org-kde package as I said on
comment #7
Is a good idea add openoffice.org-kde package as a dependency when install
openoffice over KDE.

Kubuntu Lucid. ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400, fglrx driver.

Every time I log in compositing is suspended.

Disable functionality checks in System Settings-Desktop

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 581659] Re: Mouse cursor jumps when two fingers are used

2010-07-03 Thread madmed
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 365943 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/365943

@Gursimran: the bug #365943 is marked as fixed, I reopened it and Bryce
Harrington restored it to fix released and asked me to report a new bug instead
of reopening that bug (c.f
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/365943/comments/30).
 I think this bug report contains more information than the other one and
should not be marked as duplicate.
What do you think?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 565407] Re: package fglrx (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1 - inst_path_default or inst_path_override

2010-07-03 Thread ledzepjes
@jean-Baptiste

Wait a minute, I remember...

u...@ubuntu:~$ sudo dpkg-divert --remove /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2

That is the command I issued after inspecting my command history,
libGL.so.1.2 must have been the package I removed from being diverted
to fglrx.

I must tell you, I did an in place upgrade from 9.04, ran all the
updates, then to 9.10, all the updates, then upgraded to 10.04, all in a
couple of days, fyi.

Someone told me to remove fglrx, so I tried couple things which didn't work,
u...@ubuntu:~$ sudo dpkg --purge fglrx --force-depends fglrx
and
u...@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get remove --purge *fglrx*
and
u...@ubuntu:~$ sudo dpkg --ignore-depends=fglrx --purge fglrx

those didn't work
I then did
u...@ubuntu:~$ dpkg -l '*fglrx*'

which currently shows:
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Inst/Cfg-files/Unpacked/Failed-cfg/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend
|/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)

And I don't remember exactly what it showed earlier, but I know the top
line was different, not ii, but a captial U and a lower case i
possibly, I could be wrong, but I do remember it being a capitol letter,
don't remember what it was or which letter. I think it was telling me
that fglrx was installed, but not correctly, since I couldn't enable
compiz, it was like it was half way installed, and it wouldn't let me
uninstall fglrx.

Here's more fyi:
