[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 556761] Re: ntrig stylus: can only left-click

2010-08-07 Thread Marc Nieper-Wißkirchen
Update: With the latest updates in Lucid, finger touch now works (even
with the single touch firmware - I wasn't able to run Windows 7 with
KVM/QEMU at an acceptable speed in order to install the multitouch
firmware).

One issue remains: The driver does not distinguish between my finger and
my palm, which makes having finger touch worse than living without it...
(Speaking of this: Is there a way to disable finger touch in a
configuration file as long as this issue remains?)

Marc

P.S.: Now that my pen recognize left and right button clicks, is there
also a way to map the middle button event to one my pen buttons?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 554569] Re: [lucid] Blank screen with KMS on Thinkpad X201 with Arrandale (i915)

2010-08-07 Thread Seif Lotfy
** Description changed:

  Hi all,
On my new Thinkpad X201 with Core i5 and integrated Arrandale graphics with
lucid i get a blank screen (no backlight) as soon as the i915 kicks in during
boottime. Booting continues, i can hear the loginsound, but the display stays
dark. External screen shows a picture, although with wrong resolution. Booting
with the i915.modeset=0 results in working graphics, but only X with vesa. I
tried several kernel-versions, including karmic livecd and the newest daily
build from the kernel mainline ppa, both 2.6.33 and 2.6.34, all to no avail.
The only kernel that works is from this ppa
(https://launchpad.net/~csurbhi/+archive/karmic-stable) from bug #515246, but I
couldn't isolate why. This could be a duplicate of that bug, but it has been
marked fixed, but still remains with me.
The problem seems to be that the i915 cannot initialize the internal display
properly. Following snip from syslog:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 614176] [NEW] [855gm] 2.6.35-14: Invisible Cursor

2010-08-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

=== Problem ===
After upgrading to Maverick's -14 kernel, the cursor is invisible. Otherwise it
still functions perfectly (hover effects even work on buttons and links), I
just can't see it. I have to enable Show position of pointer when the Control
Key is pressed in System-Preferences-Mouse to use it.

=== Debugging ===
Tested with the mainline kernels:
2.6.35 failed
2.6.35-rc6 passed

=== Workaround ===
Suspend/Resume

I'd love to git-bisect the commits for the 2.6.35 kernel, but there's no
documentation on how to do it and I've wasted all of the last two days
trying to figure out how to compile the thing correctly.

2010-08-07 Thread Stenten
From the upstream report, the bad kernel commit is:

commit b690e96cf9e6a6cde6f0393de47bdd6317ddb5de
Author: Jesse Barnes jbar...@virtuousgeek.org
Date: Mon Jul 19 13:53:12 2010 -0700

drm/i915: add pipe A force quirks to i915 driver

Ported over from the old UMS list. Unfortunately they're still
necessary especially on older laptop platforms.

Now I want you to click the left button twice and then without touchpad

how to do the you are welcome to ask but please follow the procedure
strictly, I want to filter the events that are created by LeftButton
only.

Your bug is very near to Triaged status.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 159968] Re: ButtonPress and ButtonRelease of button 4 are generated by left click of synaptic touch pad

2010-08-07 Thread Gursimran singh Mohar
Thanks philipp for the outputs. I think I have spotted where the bug is. I
believe the bug is the kernel itself.
As after running evtest only LeftButton has created double Tap events while you
did not even tap the touchpad (I hope that).

But there are a few questions.

1. Does your touchpad support multitouch in
 a. windows or any other OS.
 b. ubuntu (check for the SystemPreferencesMouse (Touchpad tab) )
Look for the Two-finger scrolling radio button. Is it activated,
means (Not Faded).

Please upload a pic of your touchpad or point to the some page
containing the model no and pic. This may help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 614176] Re: [855gm] 2.6.35-14: Invisible Cursor

2010-08-07 Thread Ron F.
I have a similar problem running Ubuntu Meerkat on an old Dell Latitude
D500 that uses Intel GMA 855 graphics hardware. This problem began for
me after doing an update a few days ago, and persists after this
morning's kernel update. Everything works normally as before, except
that I cannot draw a mouse cursor to save my life if the system boots
normally. I tried playing with xorg.conf, using vesa driver instead of
the default, explicitly turning on the SWCursor, etc. The only thing I
found that restores the cursor is choosing Recovery in the Grub menu and
then coming up using failsafeX. However, if I copy xorg.conf.failsafe
over to xorg.conf and then come up normally - that still does not work.

Strangely when booting normally, even splash works! Just ... no cursor.

I also tried the sudo lshw -c display trick suggested in bug #601172,
but that hung my system like a horse.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 557923] Re: calibration utility is missing for touchscreen

2010-08-07 Thread Tias Guns
Hey,

I'm the lead developer of xinput_calibrator, the generic touchscreen
calibrator for X.org.

You can find deb packages for lucid in my ppa (can upload it for other releases
too...):
https://launchpad.net/~tias/+archive/xinput-calibrator-ppa

I've also submitted the package to debian-mentors as to get it in unstable. It
would be even greater if ubuntu would accept it themselves before their freeze
deadline !

Source of the packaging available on:
http://github.com/tias/xinput_calibrator/tree/debian

Kind regards,
Tias

This kind of error usually occurs when an upgrade is aborted due to a system

 Bug description:
Hi there, I tried Ubuntu 10.04 RC and I found a problem with sort of
 conflicts with my keyboard.
While I am typing sth at high rate, things that I typed before will be
selected, which means if I continuing typing, those words will be erased.

This problem happens everywhere, in firefox, in logging window(really
frustrating when you need to type password) and so on

My computer is Acer 4745G laptop.
