[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 627243] [NEW] ati mainboard problems with graphics card
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg There is a problem with initialization of the graphics drivers. I've tried ATI Radeon 1650 Pro and Nvidia 6200 (also Nvidia 7300) graphics cards. Both of the drivers fail to initialize as far as I've seen might be a problem with power control ... or something related. The mainboard is this one http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=ALiveXFire- eSATA2%20R3.0 ... I don't have the latest bios on my mainboard...I guess should be the one that was shipped with...I've attached the logs that I get during startup of gdm. Thanks in advance, and hope this should help u getting even better. @TexLogic: since this bug is still unassigned, most probably not! Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 627243] Re: ati mainboard problems with graphics card
This is not a problem with ATI only this is a problem with the mainboard since I've tested this with ATI and NVIDIA cards (clean install on both) and doesn't work. None of the drivers for ATI cards or NVIDIA card worked. So the only problem remains the ati chipset on the mainboard.. could that be? If this is the case then disregard this message, and I apologise for the trouble created. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test the current Ubuntu development version (10.10). If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-collect bug #, and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue. -- after some usage the touchpad is not moving mouse pointer. the buttons also don't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/481287 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)
Yeah, the shadow buffer mode does disable OpenGL. I forgot to mention it. It's a sort of safe mode that's a more functional alternative to the vesa driver. I'm refreshing the kernels in my graphics-fixes PPA, since 2.6.35-v9patch1 is getting kind of stale. There have been relevant fixes in the 2.6.35.x line of stable releases, and this new build will include them. One fix is cursor-related, so hopefully that will make your cursor visible again. Another fix involves a black-screen bug. The freshened kernel that also includes the v9 patch will be called linux-image-2.6.35-v9patch+19-generic. It should be up later today. -- MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541511 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel This is a MASTER bug report, i.e. not a real bug report, but a tool to help manage other bug reports. Most bug reports on i855 are probably due to the CPU/GPU incoherency problem that is now consolidated upstream at http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27187 (which was split off from a bug report for i845). For now, we mark all automatically reported GPU lockups on i855 as duplicates of this unless there is a reason not to. A kernel with the proposed fix is available at https://launchpad.net /~brian-rogers/+archive/graphics-fixes To use this fixed kernel, run the following commands: sudo apt-add-repository ppa:brian-rogers/graphics-fixes sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade - sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.35-v9patch1-generic + sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.35-v9patch+19-generic There is a similar master bug report for i845 at bug 541492.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 446717] Re: [gm45] Adjusting Brightness in Acer Aspire Timelines causes system freeze in 4810T and 5810T models
Hey, thanks for whatever you've been able to do. Me, I've just given up on this — it can hardly be considered a high priority to fix a bug that seems only to affect a discontinued line of aging laptops (I haven't seen this problem arising for Timeline [345]820 users) — and have simply turned off visual effects. That's obviously not an optimal solution — some of that eye candy is very useful, especially the Exposé-like feature — but it solves the freeze problem and still leaves you with a very functional OS. -TexLogic On Tue, Aug 31, 2010 at 5:14 AM, Attilio ne...@tele2.it wrote: @TexLogic: since this bug is still unassigned, most probably not! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 627055] Re: [lucid] X crashe
After thinking about this more, I don't believe that the system rebooted. I did not witness the crash, but it was described to me as a reboot. This system does not use a splash (because of a pymouth bug) but does use 'quiet' and so a gdm restart would look very similar to a reboot. When I checked the kern.log I did not see that the system rebooted at the time of the crash, but checking dhcpd logs indicates that network manager did restart dhclient3, which is consistent with an X crash but no restart. I have updated the title accordingly. Regardless, the SIGQUIT did happen which resulted in significant data loss for the user. ** Summary changed: - [lucid] X crashes and forces a system restart + [lucid] X crashe ** Summary changed: - [lucid] X crashe + [lucid] X crash -- [lucid] X crash https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/627055 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hi Brian - I've ppa-purge'd your new ppa. Also I've tried your new kernel. 'fraid it didnt fix my cursor issue. I'll stick to your rc6 kernel for the moment. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 614993] Re: 10.04 - 10.10 upgrade fails: pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks: xserver-xorg-video-v4l demoted to universe
I was hoping the new xserver-xorg-core package would show up in the maverick repository more quickly, so I could test if that alone resolved my problem, but I got impatient. I ran aptitude purge xserver-xorg- video-dummy , then update-manager -d, and the upgrade was able to proceed. (No word yet on if the remainder of the upgrade works, but it appears that removing xserver-xorg-video-dummy (and earlier xserver- xorg-video-radeonhd ) resolved this particular bug for me.) I hope that information helps. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)
I'm simply saying that it is entirely untestable on my machine, because just running the packages in that repository on that hardware made me think my monitor was about to blow its tube. isn't it possible to get the old Intrepid driver working with Lucid's X version, or has it changed too much? That driver seemed to work in Karmic. I believe I was using xserver-xorg-video-intel-2.4 from https://launchpad.net/~siretart/+archive/ppa?field.series_filter=jaunty back when I had Jaunty. If I'm not mixing the two up in my mind. It's been a while. (I would gladly just use vesa on this machine and be done with it, but the driver doesn't support above 640x480 at 16-bit color. Which I might actually be willing to try to use if the Ubuntu interface weren't designed with the idea of nobody would ever run anything at 640x480 ever again in mind. If anyone could get me working at at least 800x600, that would at least get me past the point of trying to decide between crash-modes that try to fry my screen or crash-modes that force me to hard-reboot the machine.) -- MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541492 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)
Brian, I'd like to test it. I've got i845 and i830 which have had a LOT of trouble with Maverick, Lucid, At the moment both of them are running Maverick Alpha 3 updated to 31 August with default: 2.6.32-24-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 20 14:24:04 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux dpkg -s xserver-xorg-video-intel | grep Version: Version: 2:2.9.1-3ubuntu5 As of a week or two ago they would hang randomly. Not lately. Yay! I do ordinary user internet email, web browse, network printing, Open Office, test Ubuntu Alpha etc., I don't do games or eye candy. Of course the next update might tank them again, for the nth time, starting with Intrepid. Then it's back to i915.modeset=0 and xorg vesa. I have had poor results on trying a fix to back fixes off to what it was before. Also I'm not sure the fixes will be compatible with the usual torrent of daily updates? I intend to do a second Maverick install on the i845G which has enough disk space and then try the fix. That way I don't disturb the current working version and have it to fall back on. Thanks for working on this long persisting problem area. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 527149] Re: Karmic + NVIDIA cause screen flickering, X crashes and video playback problems
I was about to report a bug, but it looks like this is very similar to the issue I'm having. My screen will flicker randomly. Usually it's not very noticeable, but sometimes it is so bad that the computer is nearly unusable. The screen just flickers on and off. This also sometimes causes freezes. Usually only short hang ups, but occasionally it will freeze completely. I get the random crashes back to the login screen as well. The only difference is that I don't have the same problems with video playback. Although I do have this problem - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xvidcore/+bug/626560 I've had this problem since Lucid. I'm running Maverick now and it doesn't seem to have gotten any better. I'll attach an lspci output, but if you need any extra attachments then let me know. ** Attachment added: lspci.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/527149/+attachment/153/+files/lspci.txt -- Karmic + NVIDIA cause screen flickering, X crashes and video playback problems https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/527149 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 544496] Re: [RS100] desktop became slow after upgrading to Lucid
When booting the Maverick Live CD, it does not even make it to a working X desktop. I can switch to a text console though. This bug is documented here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/626932 -- [RS100] desktop became slow after upgrading to Lucid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/544496 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xserver-xorg-driver-ati. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
