[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 627243] [NEW] ati mainboard problems with graphics card

2010-08-31 Thread florin.moisa
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

There is a problem with initialization of the graphics drivers. I've
tried ATI Radeon 1650 Pro and Nvidia 6200 (also Nvidia 7300) graphics
cards. Both of the drivers fail to initialize as far as I've seen might
be a problem with power control ... or something related. The mainboard
is this one http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=ALiveXFire-
eSATA2%20R3.0 ... I don't have the latest bios on my mainboard...I guess
should be the one that was shipped with...I've attached the logs that I
get during startup of gdm. Thanks in advance, and hope this should help
u getting even better.

Hello David, thanks for your feedback. Can you please remove xserver-

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 496632] Re: Fails to detect display

2010-08-31 Thread jcdutton
I tried the nouveau drivers in Lucid. They fail to display anything at all, so
it not a valid alternative for my graphics card at the moment. It just returned
back to the text display saying there are problem with X.
Is it worth starting a new bug report for the nouveau driver?

Thanks Jean-Baptiste! I uploaded a new xserver-xorg-core package that
adds those additional breaks (plus some I merged from debian).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 571638] Re: Keyboard does not work when touchpad disable button pressed

2010-08-31 Thread Marzata
I confirm the bug on my HP Pavilion dv6000.
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (lucid).
Kernel Linux 2.6.32-24-generic-pae.
GNOME 2.30.2

When I press the touch pad disable button the keyboard and the external
usb mouse stop working and the laptop need to be hard rebooted. It is
outrageous to have such big in a LTS, the bug did not exist on Ubuntu
9.10 and before.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 446717] Re: [gm45] Adjusting Brightness in Acer Aspire Timelines causes system freeze in 4810T and 5810T models

2010-08-31 Thread Attilio
@TexLogic: since this bug is still unassigned, most probably not!
The problem however seems to be located in the intel video driver, and Intel
developers are suggesting to report such problems at bugs.freedesktop.org,
doing so might make it more visible to the right people.
I'm sorry I just don't have the time ATM...

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 627243] Re: ati mainboard problems with graphics card

2010-08-31 Thread florin.moisa
This is not a problem with ATI only this is a problem with the
mainboard since I've tested this with ATI and NVIDIA cards (clean
install on both) and doesn't work. None of the drivers for ATI cards
or NVIDIA card worked. So the only problem remains the ati chipset on
the mainboard.. could that be? If this is the case then disregard this
message, and I apologise for the trouble created.

Thanks,

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: xorg

There is a problem with initialization of the graphics drivers. I've tried
ATI Radeon 1650 Pro and Nvidia 6200 (also Nvidia 7300) graphics cards. Both
of the drivers fail to initialize as far as I've seen might be a problem with
power control ... or something related. The mainboard is this one
 http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=ALiveXFire-eSATA2%20R3.0 ... I
don't have the latest bios on my mainboard...I guess should be the one that
was shipped with...I've attached the logs that I get during startup of gdm.
Thanks in advance, and hope this should help u getting even better.

ubuntu's mesa isn't appropriate. Mesa went through a lot of changes in

time to fix it yet. xorg-edgers/ppa is fixed for this issue though.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 627401] [NEW] Fn+switch screen key (F8) doesn't work on DELL e4300

2010-08-31 Thread Emmanuel Pacaud
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

When I try to switch the screen configuration using Fn + [F8], sometimes
it doesn't work. If a text entry in an application is selected (for
example a gnome-terminal window is active), a 'p' letter is inserted
instead.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 627055] Re: [lucid] X crashes and forces a system restart

2010-08-31 Thread Jamie Strandboge
I neglected to mention that I feel this is probably radeon specific, as
I've seen it happen repeatedly on 3 different radeon laptops. In several
circumstances this resulted in loss of data, one of which was extremely
unfortunate timing. It has happened with and without compiz enabled. I
do not have a reproducer.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)

2010-08-31 Thread John Anthony Kazos Jr.
Making me install the xorg-edgers repository would be useless. I have
already tried that, and only ppa-purge saved me from having to wipe the
entire freaking system to reinstall. I never saw any Unix system produce
a more violent crash/lockup/retry cycle than that repository did to my
machine.

Using a stock Dell Dimension 2400, by the way.

2010-08-31 Thread thedy...@hotmail.com
Hi, this bug seems to still be present. Downloaded a fresh Ubuntu Lucid

It only worked by unplugging all but one screen connected to

Hope this helps somebody.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 481287] Re: after some usage the touchpad is not moving mouse pointer. the buttons also don't work

2010-08-31 Thread Ahmed Shams
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all
reported bugs in a timely manner.
There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and
your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a
lot if you could test the current Ubuntu development version (10.10). If you
can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload
updated logs by running apport-collect bug #, and any other logs that are
relevant for this particular issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)

2010-08-31 Thread Brian Rogers
Yeah, the shadow buffer mode does disable OpenGL. I forgot to mention
it. It's a sort of safe mode that's a more functional alternative to the
vesa driver.

I'm refreshing the kernels in my graphics-fixes PPA, since
2.6.35-v9patch1 is getting kind of stale. There have been relevant fixes
in the 2.6.35.x line of stable releases, and this new build will include
them. One fix is cursor-related, so hopefully that will make your cursor
visible again. Another fix involves a black-screen bug.

The freshened kernel that also includes the v9 patch will be called
linux-image-2.6.35-v9patch+19-generic. It should be up later today.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)

2010-08-31 Thread Brian Rogers
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

This is a MASTER bug report, i.e. not a real bug report, but a tool to
  help manage other bug reports.

Most bug reports on i855 are probably due to the CPU/GPU incoherency
problem that is now consolidated upstream at
  http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27187 (which was split off
from a bug report for i845). For now, we mark all automatically reported
GPU lockups on i855 as duplicates of this unless there is a reason not
  to.

A kernel with the proposed fix is available at https://launchpad.net
  /~brian-rogers/+archive/graphics-fixes

To use this fixed kernel, run the following commands:

  sudo apt-add-repository ppa:brian-rogers/graphics-fixes
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
- sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.35-v9patch1-generic
+ sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.35-v9patch+19-generic

There is a similar master bug report for i845 at bug 541492.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 446717] Re: [gm45] Adjusting Brightness in Acer Aspire Timelines causes system freeze in 4810T and 5810T models

2010-08-31 Thread TexLogic
Hey, thanks for whatever you've been able to do. Me, I've just given up on
this — it can hardly be considered a high priority to fix a bug that seems
only to affect a discontinued line of aging laptops (I haven't seen this
problem arising for Timeline [345]820 users) — and have simply turned off
visual effects. That's obviously not an optimal solution — some of that eye
candy is very useful, especially the Exposé-like feature — but it solves the
freeze problem and still leaves you with a very functional OS.

@TexLogic: since this bug is still unassigned, most probably not!
The problem however seems to be located in the intel video driver, and
Intel developers are suggesting to report such problems at

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: compiz

Ubuntu 9.10 Beta, Acer 4810tz Timeline series BIOS 1.28

When Appearance - Visual Effects are set to none brighness keys act as
expected with small screen glitches at the bottom of the panel.

With Appearance - Visual Effects set to either Normal or Advanced
changing brightness via the keys causes system to become unresponsive.
Mouse does not move, keyboard does not work EXCEPT the ability to continue
changing the brightness. Only way out is hard power off (or restart via
 sysreq).

I have attempted to enable visual effects and disable all plugins via CCSM
 with no luck.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 627055] Re: [lucid] X crashe

2010-08-31 Thread Jamie Strandboge
After thinking about this more, I don't believe that the system
rebooted. I did not witness the crash, but it was described to me as a
reboot. This system does not use a splash (because of a pymouth bug) but
does use 'quiet' and so a gdm restart would look very similar to a
reboot. When I checked the kern.log I did not see that the system
rebooted at the time of the crash, but checking dhcpd logs indicates
that network manager did restart dhclient3, which is consistent with an
X crash but no restart. I have updated the title accordingly.

Regardless, the SIGQUIT did happen which resulted in significant data
loss for the user.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 627055] Re: [lucid] X crash

2010-08-31 Thread Jamie Strandboge
So in researching this some more, I found these, which describes problems with
the X server receiving SIGQUIT with xorg 1.7.3 when the Enter key is pressed:
http://www.spinics.net/linux/lists/xorg/msg45959.html
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=803357
http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/17472
http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/17119

I'm don't know if this is the same bug, but it seems possible.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 626723] Re: gdm restarts on initial login

This doesn't seem to be a xorg-server issue but rather gdm. If I startx

fine for over 24 hours. If I start gdm instead it will restart
periodically.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)

2010-08-31 Thread DavidM
Hi Brian - I've ppa-purge'd your new ppa. Also I've tried your new
kernel. 'fraid it didnt fix my cursor issue. I'll stick to your rc6
kernel for the moment. Whilst it may be slightly glitchy, I consider
your rc6 kernel infinitely better than the shadow fix. If the shadow
fix is the only solution for maverick, I'm going to stick with lucid for
the foreseeable future. Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 614993] Re: 10.04 - 10.10 upgrade fails: pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks: xserver-xorg-video-v4l demoted to universe

2010-08-31 Thread David R. Hedges
I was hoping the new xserver-xorg-core package would show up in the
maverick repository more quickly, so I could test if that alone resolved
my problem, but I got impatient. I ran aptitude purge xserver-xorg-
video-dummy , then update-manager -d, and the upgrade was able to
proceed. (No word yet on if the remainder of the upgrade works, but it
appears that removing xserver-xorg-video-dummy (and earlier xserver-
xorg-video-radeonhd ) resolved this particular bug for me.) I hope that
information helps.

Thanks for troubleshooting this and finding a resolution, Michael and
Jean-Baptiste.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)

2010-08-31 Thread John Anthony Kazos Jr.
I'm simply saying that it is entirely untestable on my machine, because
just running the packages in that repository on that hardware made me
think my monitor was about to blow its tube.

isn't it possible to get the old Intrepid driver working with Lucid's X
version, or has it changed too much? That driver seemed to work in
Karmic. I believe I was using xserver-xorg-video-intel-2.4 from
https://launchpad.net/~siretart/+archive/ppa?field.series_filter=jaunty
back when I had Jaunty. If I'm not mixing the two up in my mind. It's
been a while.

(I would gladly just use vesa on this machine and be done with it, but
the driver doesn't support above 640x480 at 16-bit color. Which I might
actually be willing to try to use if the Ubuntu interface weren't
designed with the idea of nobody would ever run anything at 640x480
ever again in mind. If anyone could get me working at at least 800x600,
that would at least get me past the point of trying to decide between
crash-modes that try to fry my screen or crash-modes that force me to
hard-reboot the machine.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)

2010-08-31 Thread jerrylamos
Brian,

I'd like to test it. I've got i845 and i830 which have had a LOT of
trouble with Maverick, Lucid,

At the moment both of them are running Maverick Alpha 3 updated to 31
August with default:

2.6.32-24-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 20 14:24:04 UTC 2010 i686
GNU/Linux

dpkg -s xserver-xorg-video-intel | grep Version: Version:
2:2.9.1-3ubuntu5

As of a week or two ago they would hang randomly. Not lately. Yay!

I do ordinary user internet email, web browse, network printing, Open
Office, test Ubuntu Alpha etc., I don't do games or eye candy.
Of course the next update might tank them again, for the nth time,
starting with Intrepid. Then it's back to i915.modeset=0 and xorg vesa.

I have had poor results on trying a fix to back fixes off to what it was before.
Also I'm not sure the fixes will be compatible with the usual torrent of daily
updates?
I intend to do a second Maverick install on the i845G which has enough disk
space and then try the fix. That way I don't disturb the current working
version and have it to fall back on.

Thanks for working on this long persisting problem area.

Jerry

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 527149] Re: Karmic + NVIDIA cause screen flickering, X crashes and video playback problems

2010-08-31 Thread themusicalduck
I was about to report a bug, but it looks like this is very similar to
the issue I'm having.

My screen will flicker randomly. Usually it's not very noticeable, but
sometimes it is so bad that the computer is nearly unusable. The screen
just flickers on and off. This also sometimes causes freezes. Usually
only short hang ups, but occasionally it will freeze completely.

I get the random crashes back to the login screen as well.

The only difference is that I don't have the same problems with video
playback. Although I do have this problem -
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xvidcore/+bug/626560

I've had this problem since Lucid. I'm running Maverick now and it
doesn't seem to have gotten any better.

I'll attach an lspci output, but if you need any extra attachments then
let me know.
