[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 629910] Re: nvidia 256.53 xorg-server 1.9.0 performance regression with antialiased text

2010-09-30 Thread Extender
I think 260.19.06 have problems only on GT240 card, only on 64-bit, and in
combination with suspend/hibernate.
See http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=2320537
That bug (performance) is surely fixed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 508752] Re: [gm45] Mouse moves erratically after executing xrandr --panning

2010-09-30 Thread Norbert Nemec
Indeed - the nomodeset kernel option fixes this problem but it causes a
number of different problems (essentially breaking KDE desktop effects).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 651824] [NEW] Flicking display when things scroll, appear, or disappear (nVidia GeForce 6150)

2010-09-30 Thread David Grossberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

The display flickers, for a frame or so showing what looks like other
parts of the screen (perhaps previously displayed images) offset,
typically along the lower half of the screen. It generally happens when
there are updates - particularly new or closed windows, menus, etc.
Typing doesn't seem to do it as often, but scrolling sometimes does, as
does switching windows.

This problem appeared as soon as I booted into the Ubuntu 10.04.1 livecd's
desktop. (which would have been using the nouveau driver) and I installed
anyway hoping it would be fixed by the proprietary nVidia drivers or other
settings. I have tried a lot to fix this, with no luck (it's still doing it as
I write this) Attempts included:
All available versions of the nVidia proprietary drivers - 96, 173, current
(195 if I recall in 10.04, 256 in 10.10)
All settings of Preferences - Appearance - Visual Effects
Upgrading to 10.10 (note, currently in beta or maybe RC)
Different refresh rates.

I don't know what else to try, and this problem isn't exactly easy to search
for.
Please let me know if there are things I can try, or more info I can provide.

This issue does not occur in Windows XP on the same computer.

(Note, I only have access to this computer for a couple days every two
weeks or so. Please be patient if I can't respond right away to
suggestions or requests for info that I need to use this PC to answer.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 636903] Re: External display through display port not working

2010-09-30 Thread Cima
Hi,
my video card is the intel integrated:

lspci -nnk | grep -A2 VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Core Processor
Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0046] (rev 12)
Kernel driver in use: i915
Kernel modules: i915

so I don't think your comment applies. And no proprietary drivers are
available, anyway. Please note that I am using the latest 2.6.35 kernel
from Maverick.

Subscribing ubuntu-release to get this on their radar to determine
whether this gets uploaded post-RC or as an SRU.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 561734] Re: quadrapassel doesn't start: Failed to initialise clutter: Unable to select the newly created GLX context

2010-09-30 Thread Elias Julkunen
@Chris: I have installed Ubuntu Netbook Edition, but actually I use normal
Ubuntu interface, and I even removed unity.
Package libclutter-eglx-es20-1.0-0 is installed. Should I install some other
package? Maybe libclutter-eglx-es11-1.0-0?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 379313] Re: Handling NextWindow Touchscreen (multitouch)

2010-09-30 Thread Peter Adamka
djdvant:
Thanks, driver compiles fine on maverick 64b. Also devices are created well and
X identifies it.
But, when trying to 'evtest' the device, i got no response.
In xorg.conf, I got only conf for nvidia.
Are there some aditional steps needed?

Hi,

I couldn't reproduce this bug for about two months now. Since it
happened relatively frequently before, I think the issue has been
resolved now. So feel free to close this bug.

Jakob

2010-09-30 Thread Antonio J. de Oliveira
Hello

As soon as Maverick leaves the beta state, I will try to add it there.
But I would like to see it compiled on a stable release as I have done
with the precedent versions.

I have already received a version for testing purposes.

All the best

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 574069] Re: [Lucid] Loading nvidia-settings hurts compiz performance

2010-09-30 Thread David Lieberman
Upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 yesterday and encountered this problem with
a GeForce 8500 on AMD64. Running compiz I see very poor performance.
Installed the latest nvidia driver for my card from the vendor, with no
effect. Also tried the install libgnome command, with no effect. Finally
bailed and upgraded to 10.10 beta. The problem persists.

Additionally, I see that my /var/run/grub/menu.lst has disappeared.
Could that be a side effect of this problem?
If so, how can I restore that file?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 652160] [NEW] TERM environment variable not set.

2010-09-30 Thread Daniel Holm
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xterm

The TERM environment variable not set, which creates some difficulty. I
use Guake as my standard virtual shell, but the same thing happens in
Gnome Terminal.

If I run $ export TERM=xterm everything works like a charm again, but it
is frustrating having to do this at each new session and it would
certainly be a issue for beginners.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 527912] Re: Wacom Bamboo CTH-661 not recognized

2010-09-30 Thread Stefan Bader
Yes, this is not surprising. The IDs are only present in the sourceforge
driver, not in the current upstream tree. So MAverick cannot support it.
I was referring to the backports modules package for Lucid which
provides the sourceforge driver.

It is not practical/desirable to mix in a sourceforge driver into the
standard kernel code as that generates hard to maintain code. The
backports approach may be an option for MAverick too. Though there is
considerable change in the area of multitouch code of the kernel and
that will likely require some testing to evaluate whether things work
there as expected, too.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 650529] Re: Dell Inspiron 14R - N4010, Synaptics touchpad not recognized

2010-09-30 Thread Bruce Kearns
I have been looking into this problem, especially Dmitry Torokhov's work
around this issue. It appears that there is a patch that has been
implemented in Gentoo for the 2.6.32 kernel series. Since this patch is
dated 2010-07-29, I am wondering if this patch has been incorporated
into the mainline kernel builds. Please confirm. If it has not, I plan
to build a kernel that incorporates this patch.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 640878] Re: No cursor upon upgrade reboot

2010-09-30 Thread Jud Ruhl
I think this is a driver issue, though my computer that this occurred on is no
longer functional. I was able to get the cursor back by going up to the monitor
icon and resetting to monitor resolution. I had the opposite experience: When I
rebooted the cursor disappeared, and I had to open sudo lshw -C to restore
it. I did a complete fresh install on a new hard drive and now it boots up
opens up and subsequently goes screen black with some vertical lines appearing
briefly. But an old windows 98 machine shows on the same monitor, proving to me
that it's not a monitor issue.
In my case, I'm becoming convinced that my 10 year old computer is either
developing video card problems or can't be supported by current drivers.

Subject: [Bug 640878] Re: No cursor upon upgrade reboot

I've been seeing these issues for the past couple days most frequently
on my laptop. I've been restarting the x-server to get the cursor back.
Same symptoms; tracks but there is no pointer. Mine comes back though..
I also lost the cursor on my desktop today for the first time and was
also able to recover it via an X restart.

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu: New

Bug description:
Since I upgraded I have no cursor arrow, but the mouse tracks as though behind
the screen and I can only find things ( graphic interfaces, buttons, etc) as
they are highlighted by passing the mouse over the screen at random. It's
really hard to locate places on the screen. I have re-booted several times, and
tried to find a mouse configuration window other than the General tab on the
Mouse config window. I didn't make any changes to settings that I'm aware of.
Installed 10.04 upgrade on 9.03 program. Compaq Pressario, i830 828456/GL
Brookdale chip, Intel Pentium 4 CPU, 2,00 Gb Ram,
If I re-boot the cursor will not appear until I invoke the following in
terminal: sudo lshw -C display, which brings up info on my video card and the
cursor arrow appears, though nothing else has changed. It's not permanent, as
the same will happen next time I re-boot.

Therefore, there are 180 pixels of so called dead space underneath the
second (right-hand) monitor, which is explicitly not viewable due to
physical constraints.

The expected behaviour is dealing with this dead space is to not let the
mouse enter at all, meaning icons/windows/etc will not become trapped
inside. However, ubuntu will let the mouse wander into the dead zone,
which, to the unknowing, is quite jarring, as the mouse will have
literally disappeared.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 650599] Re: kde apps kill X in 10.10

2010-09-30 Thread gryphius
Same here. It only crashes if xinerama is enabled. If I disable xinerama, qt
apps can be run ok.
Tested with Lucid and Meerkat, also tried newest beta of the nvidia drivers
(260.19.04), same result.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 626974] Re: ABI change in xorg 1.9 breaks legacy nvidia-96 and nvidia-173 drivers in Maverick

2010-09-30 Thread DoDuS
If I only knew about that problem before upgrade I have just made few
hours ago :( (10.04.1-10.10) Now I'm stuck with nv driver, as nouveau
is so slow on my machine, that even moving mouse pointer over menus
makes lag. That's really bad, I hope nvidia-96 binary drivers will work
with Ubuntu 10.10 as soon as possible.

Here is what Xorg.0.log says:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 567696] Re: [Radeon] [Lucid] [mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop

2010-09-30 Thread mia1dolfan
I upgraded to 10.10 yesterday, so far no problem, but it's too soon to
say if it was resolved upstream, since this a intermediate issue, but I
have my fingers crossed. It is a good omen that no one has posted the
problem on 10.10, since as we all know most users simply forget about
the bug report when the issue is resolved for them.

From the xorg forums, [mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck
in an infinite loop. is a symptom and not the problem. The actual
problems could be various depending on the hardware / drivers / and
configuration.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 415804] Re: [Toshiba Satellite P300] Touchpad don't work

2010-09-30 Thread Charlie Kravetz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Could test the current Ubuntu development version? It
would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on
getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more
about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . If you
can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could
upload updated logs by running apport-collect 415804.

Jaunty 9.04 will be End Of Support (EOS) on 2010-10-23, so it is
suggested that if you are still using this version, please upgrade your
system. The latest development version, Maverick Meerkat, is now in the
final week of testing before it is released as 10.10.

Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 650529] Re: Dell Inspiron 14R - N4010, Synaptics touchpad not recognized

2010-09-30 Thread Bruce Kearns
It appears that this patch is included in 10.10. I will wait for the
final release and test it then. Hopefully, the patch fixes this issue
because this touchpad behaving as a pointer makes this laptop very
difficult to use. No practical way to turn it off, and the thing is so
sensitive that typing is extremely difficult, I'll update this bug
report once 10.10 is released and I update from 10.04LTS.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 652311] [NEW] P4M900 won't boot into X from 10.04.1 medium without xforcevesa

2010-09-30 Thread David Nielsen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome

I was trying out Lucid on my fiancees machine (a Semp Toshiba Info IS
1462) but found that I could only get X to start using the xforcevesa
boot option. Leading to a very poor first impression of Ubuntu since the
user is greeted with a black screen and a basically nonfunctional
machine.

Additionally, but likely separately, the bootsplash is aligned wrongly
entirely on the left of the screen.

2010-09-30 Thread Maris Nartiss
It seems that original issue is replaced with a new problem - #589485
Xorg ignores screen size and sets DPI to 96. Everyone, who's hit by
96DPI, please, move to #589485 and also add Your mee too to
http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23705 as there are no plans
to fix this issue because now it's a FEATURE!
