[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 607399] Re: Loading the nvidia driver causes kernel oops in maverick
I have the same problem, and I have tried for 2 days to get it working - I'm also using Geforce GT 230m. Does anyone have a clue on this? It seems like we have a whole series og nvidia laptops that can't currently use Ubuntu. When you install ubuntu on a laptop with that this videocard you run into not only one newbie killer but 2: 1. Blank screen because of the nouveau-kms module. 2. If you get past that and install the propriatary drivers to get 3D acceleration you run into a kernel oops. I'm not a hardware-guy so I'm pretty lost when it comes to fix this. BTW I had my laptop running with some tweaks on Lucid. / Jakob -- Loading the nvidia driver causes kernel oops in maverick https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/607399 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 655078] Re: Beta 10.10 Nvidia update broke Sony Vaio VPCF136FM installation
Hi, I am using a SONY VPCF11M1E (Nvidia GT330M). Installing Ubuntu 10.10 (32 bit) worked with a completly wrong resolution. Then choose to install the hardware drivers (version 260.19) and I got the same issues as above: Blank screen with cursor blinking at the left top of the screen. The lines in the xorg.conf for customEDID is not necessary anymore from version 2.56. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 637582] Re: display crashes after within first minute
Please find what I posted as a question. This is all I have tried. I am happy though to answer your question. As it is a problem a screen display flickering it is tough to send any attachement. I am running Ubuntu on my laptop Toshiba A100-168 PSAAA9. There is a built in graphic card ATI Radeon Mobility X1400. When I first installed it the graphic display stopped during the installation but I left it working. Then when the PC restarted Ubuntu run fine with high resolution. However 2 min after the display went unstable and the screen started to go black. Here by using the remote desktop I tried to find solution to my problem by reading forums. My first thought was to check the free driver was well installed. It was but actually was not appropriate to have a stable display. Afterwards I tried to install the proprietary driver ATI 9.3 the latest from ATI to support my card. But unfortunately I couldn't as the Kernel of Ubuntu 10.04 do not allow me to run the installation properly. So I tried to install the fglrx from the depot. And surprisingly after restarting I have got a stable graphic display in normal resolution. However I cannot use my the 3D effects of my graphic card. I tried then to uninstall the free dirver radeon, I restarted and my PC with only fglrx is in very low resolution. No way to increase it. So I reinstalled radeon to have a stable environment and a normal resolution. I would like though to use my 3D capabilities. I there a know solution to my problem: Why the free driver radeon do not allow me to have a stable graphic display; as it gets black after 2 min or less, should I set it up in a particular way...? Alternatively is there a way to install the proprietary driver 9.3 under Ubuntu 10.04? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 650539] Re: Launching QT apps under Xinerama crashes Xorg : affects SpeedCrunch, KeePassX, Lucky Backup, Pencil, Stellarium, Skype, Google Earth, VLC, Konqueror, VirtualBox, Opera
nVidia just released new stable version of drivers - 260.19.12. Among other changes there're few following related to Xinerama: ~ * Enhanced VDPAU to fully support Xinerama. * Fixed a bug in the X driver that prevented operation of Xinerama when using multiple NVIDIA GPUs from different major hardware generations on X with ABI 4 or greater. * Fixed a bug in the OpenGL driver's Xinerama support. ~ This would probably (hopefully) fix an issue. PPA with fresh nVidia driver builds is here: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates Can anyone test? (I'm currently fine with old versions of xorg/xserver - see my solution posted above, so do not want to break anything until i'm sure it will help - but it would be nice if someone who still has this issue can test new version of nVidia drivers and report if it helps to fix an issue) -- Launching QT apps under Xinerama crashes Xorg : affects SpeedCrunch, KeePassX, Lucky Backup, Pencil, Stellarium, Skype, Google Earth, VLC, Konqueror, VirtualBox, Opera ... https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/650539 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

That doesn't work for me, but maybe for others it will, as I'm one of the few tht have this issue with only one monitor (the laptop one) and even I use the twinview mode when using 2. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 650539] Re: Launching QT apps under Xinerama crashes Xorg : affects SpeedCrunch, KeePassX, Lucky Backup, Pencil, Stellarium, Skype, Google Earth, VLC, Konqueror, VirtualBox, Opera
QT ? why would it be QT ? Well, most of my gtk apps run well without issues at all. Whereas NONE of my installed QT apps work. Any body else having THIS issue with gtk apps, besides Laurent? Also, the closed source nVidia drivers always seem more culpable (and us for using them). It also happens with the Nouveau Drivers. So unless it is an issue with both Nouveau and Nvidia Closed, I dont think this is an issue with Nvidia Propirtary drivers. Does anyone still use Xinerama? Yes most of us with 2 monitors. There is no other alternative if you want to be able to drag windows between monitors . [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 650539] Re: Launching QT apps under Xinerama crashes Xorg : affects SpeedCrunch, KeePassX, Lucky Backup, Pencil, Stellarium, Skype, Google Earth, VLC, Konqueror, VirtualBox, Opera
Yes, lots of us *try* to use xinerama despite Ubuntu 10.04 and now 10.10s efforts to stop us. For more than 2 monitors it is the only way to take full advantage of them (drag and drop between monitors and not one huge desktop that screws up maximising windows). I have downgraded my X packages on my work machine by following kion's instructions (thanks Kion) and no longer have the problem so surely this is a Xorg problem which is particularly bad on QT apps with the nvidia driver? https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/650539/comments/42 No doubt now I downgraded I will get the 10.04 problem (x crashing with mouse between 2 screens). I would rather Ubuntu launched later in the month and was tested properly than get the stupid 10/10/10 publicity. Sorry to rant so much but I am really getting fed up of these buggy releases. The last good release was 9.10- I wish I had stuck with it. -- Launching QT apps under Xinerama crashes Xorg : affects SpeedCrunch, KeePassX, Lucky Backup, Pencil, Stellarium, Skype, Google Earth, VLC, Konqueror, VirtualBox, Opera ... https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/650539 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I added a bug report to the FreeDesktop Bugzilla https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30943 I appreciate Ubuntu more, now. The bug reporting system for Xorg is truly unfriendly, with multiple registrations, and a request to self- categorise the bug (Xorg isn't a catagory, the version 1.9.0 isn't a choice, nor does the 7.5 version I guessed appear anywhere in Xorg.0.log! I get the feeling that there is a strong Intel bias in the Xorg development. All the xrandr examples use it. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 662347] [NEW] multiple monitor config issue. Worked 10.04. Prob 10.10
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Hi, thanks for looking at this. My laptop offers a HDMI port that I've used to add a 2nd monitor. After upgrading to 10.10, multiple monitors stopped working. The gnome- display-properties program kept giving an error Please log out and log back in again when adjusting the monitor sizes. I was able to turn both resolutions down to 640x480 and get it to work. After that, I kept getting the error trying to turn up the laptop monitor. Disabling the external monitor bypassed this error. After upping the resolution of the laptop monitor, I reenabled the 2nd monitor. I got the same error when trying to place the 2nd monitor to the left. I was able to place it below the lcd monitor. Anyways, bit of trouble. Thanks for looking at this, let me know if I can help. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 636311] Re: Keyboard special keys interfere with mouse
I have this problem after upgrading to Maverick, too; xev shows a ButtonPress event (with not ButtonRelease) for any XF86 KeyPress, and the left click stops working after that. I use a Microsoft Digital Media Keyboard 1.0A (045e:00b4) and a Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical (045e:0039). My PC also uses the GeForce2 MX/MX 400 (rev b2) card, so it looks like I'm stuck until they release a fix for the v96 driver.
