[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 552699] Re: multi-touch not working on acer 1410, karmik

2010-11-04 Thread Gursimran singh Mohar
Hi BAleks
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all
reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since
that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some
of the updates. If you could test the current Ubuntu stable release(maverick
ubuntu 10.10), this would help us a lot. If you can test it, and it is still an
issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running
apport-collect , and any other logs that are relevant for this
particular issue.

2010-11-04 Thread Rurik Krylov
Thank you, your solution works for me on Lenovo T510 with Nvidia NVS 3100M
It also works if I run 'locical_cpu.sh disable' and 'locical_cpu.sh enable'
after resume.
My Chrome is very slow after resume and become fast after doing these scripts.

In the hope of getting the importance of this bug raised I'd like to add
that this bug is now stopping me from updating using the update manager.

When it tries to open the authentication dialog box I get an alert

with Alt-F4. Update manager then goes back and refreshes the package
list and no update occurs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 669736] Re: During boot Ubuntu splash screen flashes ending with a blank screen, the CPU heating up and the fan racing; on a Dell Latitude C400.

2010-11-04 Thread Nathan Hartley
To summarise: Had similar issues[1] when closing the screen with v10.04.
Now after a fresh install and all updates (as of 4/11/2010), the splash
screen flashes, goes blank, locks up and gets hot. Edited xorg.conf[2],
everything works until I close the screen, then it goes blank, locks up
and gets hot.

Saw that in similar cases, the output of lspci -v and lspci -vn were
requested so I have attached them here.

2010-11-04 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Sorry for the delay in responding!

The next thing to check here would be the 2.6.37-rc1 kernel available
here: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v2.6.37-rc1-maverick/ . That includes a(nother!) re-
working of the monitor frequency code. The radeon.new_pll option has
been removed from the new kernel - as upstream is confident that the new
code should work better - so you will need to remove it from your grub
configuration.

If the new kernel still shows this problem, then the dmesg log would again be
useful. The logs you attached previously didn't have drm.debug=0x04 set - you
can see this on the “kernel command line” message:
...
[0.00] Kernel command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-25-generic
root=UUID=4b588e34-b43c-4f8a-bd71-3abedbf91031 ro quiet splash radeon.new_pll=0
...
That should have “drm.debug=0x04” in it, and for testing the 2.6.37-rc1 kernel
should not have “radeon.new_pll=0” in it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 670473] Re: Several problems with brightness control

2010-11-04 Thread Hendrik Knackstedt
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

I have several problems with brightness control on my HP Compaq 6715s
since Maverick. I haven't had any of these problems in Lucid except for
  one.

  The problems are:

  (1) Brightness lowers itself after a while and does not switch back to
the level it had before when you move the mouse. Until I installed
todays updates for Maverick this worked without problems.

  (2) When problem (1) occured or sometimes without problem (1) occuring
it is not possible to raise brightness to its maximum level. You can
sometimes get it to its maximum if you lower the level and increase it a
  few times.

  (3) Sometimes brightness can not be increased. Same workaround as in (2)
helps: lower and try to increase it a few times.

+ (4) When unplugging power supply brightness decreases like it should but
+ it does not go back to the previous level when you plug it back in.
+
Please let me know if you need any more information or logs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 671088] Re: xorg.conf error in fglrx-installer

2010-11-04 Thread Felix Kuehling
The same libglx.so is loaded in both cases. It's very unlikely that the
change in performance is due to libglx being specified in xorg.conf or
not. Just in case, I tried it but I can't reproduce this effect here.

Are there any other differences between your test configurations? One
thing that has a big influence on 3D performance is desktop effects.

Which desktop environment/window manager/ composite manager are you
using?

Yes on the nvidia driver. When I enabled the nvidia driver, that is when the
problem started. nouveau worked fine except it would not let me do any
resolutions higher than 1280 x 1024 , which looked awful on my HD monitor. I
can also confirm that installing the nvidia proprietary driver via nvidias
website produces the exact same problem.

Load "glx" in xorg.cong causes a 50% drop in 3d performance. Noticed glx
wasn't loaded in xorg.conf with the ati sourced driver when I was trying

Chromium has been running every time this shows up. It just takes me to

crashes were never seen on Ubuntu 10.04 in the same configuration.

Hello,

I have the kernel 2.6.34-020634-generic (for trim support) on Lucid
10.04 up to date and can't install the Ati driver true
system>administration>driver, I got an error at the end. But I still can
install the official 10.10 one from ATI/AMD site. So I can't use gnome-

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 582523] Re: Analog tuner does not work on boot, but restarting cx8800 allows it to work

2010-11-04 Thread DAP
The situation has changed a bit since I have upgraded to 10.10
I no longer need to run the script to get the card to function. I need only
stop the mythTV back end, and run:
mplayer tv://32 -tv
device=/dev/video0:driver=v4l2:chanlist=us-cable:alsa:adevice=hw.1,0:amode=1:audiorate=48000:forceaudio:volume=100:immediatemode=0:norm=NTSC-M

This does not mean that everything is working. I am unable to use "Watch TV" in
MythTV with the analog tuner.
TVTime will show video, but not play sound, and only works when mythTV back end
is stopped
Zapping requires I set NTSC-M-JP to get a proper picture NTSC-M gets me a noisy
black and white picture, and I am located in the US. Also, Zapping does not
have an option for the cable standard I am using. The one that works of the two
that are available will not tune some of the channels.

So while it appears the bug I reported is fixed, the analog tuner is
still unusable.

Then i should file a new bug? Because this bug affects not just KDE but also
Gnome for my case. I can only start an X session under LXDE for now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 666947] Re: package fglrx 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu5 failed to install/upgrade: fglrx kernel module failed to build

2010-11-04 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 670992] [NEW] Blank Screen After Booting With Kernel 2.6.35-22-generic In Ubuntu 10.10

2010-11-04 Thread Marcus Hayhurst
Public bug reported:

I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 (no graphics drivers installed) on
an Asus F3Ka laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 graphics card and
then upgraded to 10.10 through Update Manager. Everything worked fine
in 10.04 before I formatted but now whenever I boot with kernel
2.6.35-22-generic under 10.10 I get a blank screen (the screen appears
to shutoff) this even happens using Recovery Mode. If however I boot
with kernel 2.6.32-25-generic everything boots up as normal. If I
highlight kernel 2.6.35-22-generic under the GRUB menu, press "e",
delete "quiet splash" and enter: "radeon.modeset=0" then everything
appears to boot but it always boots to the command line. I also tried
"sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop" under kernel
2.6.35-22-generic's command line and that did not work either. This
appears to be a compatibility issue between the graphic's card and new
kernel, is there a fix for this. Thank you

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 556782] Re: [rs690m] Graphics corruption with ati x1200

2010-11-04 Thread John Gorkos
Not a solution, but my Gateway LT3103u was essentially useless after
this bug was introduced. My cheap/easy solution for now is to just
rename the radeon.ko kernel module to radeon.ko.orig. After I did that,
the corruption disappeared (as did any hope of accelerated 3d graphics,
but hey, it's a netbook man).

sudo mv /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/radeon/radeon.ko
/lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/radeon/radeon.ko.orig

Then reboot (chances are, radeon.ko is loaded and it's a bear to unload)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 670973] [NEW] Auto-focus of windows after "emtpy trash" action

2010-11-04 Thread Rik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Let's say you have some windows open: 1 firefox, 1 Open Office, etc.
After "empty trash" action, where the mouse move the window got focus with a
sort of auto-focus on mouse hover.
That can be stopped only clicking something.
So, if one don't take care of this, while writing down a password or something
else, can ends written elsewhere because of an involuntary mouse movement.

Asked on italian Ubuntu Forum, I collect info from other users: This happen on
32 and 64 bit systems and with or without Compiz.
And has nothing to do with the Gnome window option auto-focus (that is not
active).

fglrx doesn't support growing the primary surface at runtime beyond the
initial size. You can work around the problem by making the Virtual
screen size bigger in your xorg.conf to allocate a larger primary
surface during Xserver startup.

same problem here, system freezes randomly, can't be pinged anymore, no ssh
possible, needs hard reset.
no entry in system logs.
First problems after updating from lucid. Also a clean install didn't help.
Occurs randomly, doesn't depend on any action or specific program running.
Never happens when power supply is plugged in.
System: FSC Lifebook S6420, Chipset Intel 45GM, Graphics Intel GMA X4500

-> So this is definitely NOT a problem with ATI-drivers (also see
comments with nvidia graphics)!

For what it's worth, my problem was fixed when I bought a video card

Nouveau doesn't seem to have this issue, but it's very limited
otherwise.

Two ways: by activating the proprietary driver suggested by Ubuntu, and also
by using the installer downloaded from nVidia. The result was the same in
both cases.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 649809] Re: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly

2010-11-04 Thread Donal
I'm using the nvidia binary drivers. Also using them on 2 other machines
without SSD with no problems.

When I try to change the theme in the gnome-appearance-properties only
the titlebar theme will change. Starting the gnome-settings-daemon
doesn't help until I log out and back in again. And even then only
sporadically.

The only solution that works 100% of the time is #68.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 649809] Re: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly

2010-11-04 Thread Sebastien Bacher
reading the bug again I've some extra questions:

- is everybody there having the issue using a nvidia card with nvidia binary
drivers installed?
- do you get the issue using nouveau?
- how did you install the nvidia drivers?

don't follow comment #70 suggesting to remove the nautilus gconf
director it will destroy your nautilus config for no reason, restarting
nautilus is enough to pick the new theme

can you change the theme in the gnome-appearance-properties dialog? is
starting it enough to get your theme used?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 629391] Re: Compiz Wallpaper plugin broken in 10.10

2010-11-04 Thread Lorenzo
At least! I think I successfully integrated the patch into the 0.8.6 code.
You may find attached the fixed wallpaper.c

To self-patch your system you need to download the source for the
compiz-fuzion-plugins-extra package, change the wallpaper.c module,
recompile (you can recompile just this plugin, "make" into src/wallpaper
directory ) and substitute the original libwallpaper.so libwallpaper.ar
libwallpaper.la inside /usr/lib/compiz with the new modules (the last
two are created inside the src/wallpaper/.libs directory ).

You need also compiz-dev module and the usual compiling tools.

Please, feel free to comment and adjust the code if you find any (other)
bugs in my source.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 649809] Re: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly

2010-11-04 Thread pfrenssen
No autologin. It happened at every login, except just once, on
approximately 30-40 logins.

Since I delayed the loading of gnome-settings-daemon with 2 seconds as
proposed in #68 the problem has entirely gone away for me. There is no
mention anymore of multiple xsettings managers anymore in .xsession-
errors.

Is it possible xsettings manager is loaded in gdm at login and not
unloaded fast enough when logging in?

The original reoprter (nbl) did not provide enough information to

Subsequent commenters have kept this bug alive but there's not really
definitive evidence they have the same problem or are just experiencing
a "random X session log out in KDE" (which could happen for any number
of reasons).
