[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 666601] Re: Xorg does not dump core (via file nor Apport) on crash

2010-11-06 Thread Daniel Richard G.
Thanks for that, Gustavo. I would just add two things to your
instructions:

1. ulimit -c unlimited at some point, so that ulimit doesn't prevent a
core file from being generated;

2. Remember to specify the display, e.g. DISPLAY=:0 gnome-session :-)

Even with all that, if Apport is enabled, you don't get a core dump. The
only way you get a core is if Apport is disabled (i.e. core_pattern
specifies a file instead of a pipe). Very odd.

I finally got a core, force-fed it after-the-fact into Apport, and got
bug #671293.

2010-11-06 Thread Osmo Laitinen
I have also this same problem and I can fully agree with post #14. I
also installed installed maximus, go-home-applet and window-picker
applet and netbook-launcher-efl (didn't find netbook-remix-efl, not even
sure what it does, maybe those are the same?) and 2D netbook interface
looks and works quite well (stupid large icons).

So, for me it looks that it would be quite possible to maintain old
10.04 interface as well for those who find Unity unusable and loved old
interface.

It will not be soled for maverick, because maverci's version of UNity
use mutter, wich bring these problems. Natty's version will use Compiz,

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 671837] [NEW] Xorg crashes due to known bug in Xinerama code

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-core

The bug listed here affects the version of X in maverick:

http://lists.x.org/archives/xorg-devel/2010-October/014150.html

This bug is critical because it will cause X to crash on Qt programs

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 599316] Re: keyboard starts repeating the last pressed key

2010-11-06 Thread ticket
Some more info:

When the bug hits, I found I can reclaim my session by doing a suspend,
and then un-suspending.

The bug is still there if I tell Ubuntu that I'm using a Dell keyboard
rather than a generic one.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 660596] Re: Black screen after installing Nvidia drivers on 10.10

2010-11-06 Thread Pemeq
I have the exact problems of the original poster.

I install the latest driver for my 8400 gs card, reboot. And then you get the
purple screen but instead of Ubuntu, it says 10.10.
After that, screen stays purple.
Funny thing is, this also happens to me when I use another operating system
like Windows Vista. Is it the card then?

I hope things will get fixed soon by a patch or something.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 657976] Re: [Intel GMA 945/950] Unity Interface Is Extremely Slow (Ubuntu Netbook 10.10)

2010-11-06 Thread Romano Giannetti
Just to specify a bit more about the comment #62: for me, the only thing
that is really painfully slow is the Application launcher (from 10 to
30 seconds to show). By the way, is it possible to configure it so that
it stays put after launching the application? This could reduce the pain
(launch it in workspace #4 and let it stays there forever...)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 660596] Re: Black screen after installing Nvidia drivers on 10.10

hi.

I'm rather disappointed that the NVidia GeForce 8400 GS does no longer
work with Ubuntu 10.10 - I'm also affected by the black screen problem.
Hopefully the problem will be fixed soon, because a downgrade to Ubuntu
10.04 would cost even more time than i already spent trying to fix the
nvidia-problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 660405] Re: computer freezes on suspend/hibernate

2010-11-06 Thread Quinn
Seeing this as well on my HP CQ60 (GMA 9 Graphics). Specifically, it's
suspend that's hampered on this machine; haven't seen any issues with
hibernate (other than initially the swap being too small to allow
hibernate -- which was rather-easily fixed). ;)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 671921] [NEW] External monitor using VGA has sync issues with KMS

2010-11-06 Thread Philip
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Using Maverick's 2.6.35-22 kernel and xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.12.0,
with KMS on (these new Intel drivers have removed support for UMS), my
external screen shakes when I connect it over VGA. I assume the sync is
off. When I connect digitally (via DisplayPort), the external screen is
fine.

The machine is a Thinkpad T410s with an i915 Intel controller.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 671925] [NEW] Xorg freeze, grey screen, no pointer : xserver-xorg-video-openchrome

2010-11-06 Thread Jovaro
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome

When trying to start X using the startx command, a grey screen appears
without a pointer or anything. Changing the driver to vesa in
xorg.conf gives a working X.

The issue started when I updated from 9.10 to 10.04 and only happens on
the TV-out. Unfortately I use the pc only for my CRT TV so I really need
the TV-out.

Here is a log when the openchrome driver is used.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 671925] Re: Xorg freeze, grey screen, no pointer : xserver-xorg-video-openchrome

2010-11-06 Thread Jovaro
I just attached a working xorg.conf that I got with some help from
penguin42 in #ubuntu-bugs.

So the problem really is that X -configure doesn't give a working
xorg.conf

I'll open a new bug for the crash that happens when not using an
xorg.conf tomorrow

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 487749] Re: trackpad-doublefinger-scroll

2010-11-06 Thread Rovanion
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

Scrolling using the right and lower edge of the trackpad makes the area
of the trackpad actually usable to move the mouse very small. Add to
this that when you're trying to move a window as in bug #39328 if you
press to low on the trackpad it makes you scroll between windows. The
same problem occurs in KDE if you select a window in the KDE-bar and
then move your mouse up to the program, but hit the the lower parts of
  the trackpad.

Replacing the edge scrolling way of scrolling with the two finger scroll
will solve both these bugs and is very commonly used with modern
devices, such as mobile phones, thus comes very natural to a new user.
This function/way of scrolling is already implemented and should be
  enabled by default.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 487749] Re: trackpad-doublefinger-scroll

2010-11-06 Thread Rovanion
While I do appreciate you taking the time to replace the insert name
tag with my name I would much more appreciate that you actually read the
report. To hopefully draw your actual attention to this bugreport I have
submitted the, even tough completely unnecessary, logs requested. I can
confirm that this bugreport is still actual and accurate for the latest
release of Ubuntu.
