Actually I have noted this, too. But on an Asus X53Ka Notebook with an Radeon Mobility HD2600. Here the fglrx crashes when going to fullscreen with hardware acceleration enabled. The Graphics then shows some strange glitches and goes to a black screen. @Serrano Pereira: Yes, that's why I switched to Awesome. I don't remember when it started. I can only tell that's before July 17th, on which day I had recorded this weird behavior. And there might be some days before I recorded it. I can't reproduce it now, because I've switched to the nouveau driver, which don't support compiz. But now the main menu of Awesome behaves the same way. Whenever I try to switch the effects (system - preference - appearance - Visual Effects) to 'Normal', it either A. searches for drivers, asks for me to keep the settings, refreshes the windows, yet does not display the effects, and reverts the option back to 'none' when I go back into the settings. or B. pops up with the error Desktop effects could not be enabled. Effects work fine when I run only one monitor. Its only in extended mode when this occurs. I've searched everywhere and have not found any solutions with maverick... and all the bug threads (usually from ubuntu 8.x versions) with a similar issue are showing as fixed when updating the xserver- xorg-video-intel package (which I already have the most up to date package). I've even updated maverick-proposed packages. I know this should work as I have ubuntu studio 10.10 running on my toshiba and all works great. Until last week I have 256.53 nvidia driver, but I was working with openGL and with this driver every time I use openGL the screen blinks in black for a second (I have the same problem in windows xp) so I tried to update the driver and then I had the problem that is described here. But I do not remember as I had installed the driver. I know I did a clean ubuntu 10.10 with the nvidia installer, but do not remember having changed the grub or xorg.conf. I just realized that the bug was set to fix released and was therefore not public visible any longer. The fix released was set after I incorrectly thought the problem was gone (with hardware rendering) but I had accidentally still enabled software rendering in this console. This is not a bug fix (in my opinion) it is a workaround which is just covering up the real problem. I am unable to start Compiz on a 945 with 2048*1152 resolution presumably because of this 'fix'. As the max texture size is 2048*2048, Compiz should be able to run with this resolution, it does not exceed the max texture size. The same symptoms happend totoday while running Windows XP x64. So this issue is either a hardware fault or a bug in the OS-independent part of the Intel driver. I will return the device to the vendor, but as of yet I am undecided whether I should get the same model in exchange or rather a different one ... I would be gratefied if someone could confirm whether they are successfully using X201 (or any other Notebook with Intel HD Graphics) with an external monitor at 1900x1200. Effects work fine when I run only one monitor. Its only in extended mode when this occurs. I've searched everywhere and have not found any solutions with maverick... and all the bug threads (usually from ubuntu 8.x versions) with a similar issue are showing as fixed when updating the xserver- xorg-video-intel package (which I already have the most up to date package). I've even updated maverick-proposed packages. I know this should work as I have ubuntu studio 10.10 running on my toshiba and all works great.
