[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 676859] [NEW] [ati radeon xpress 200M] vertical color lines on start-up
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati Since this occurs on my parents' laptop, I cannot run commands from here. I'll try to do that later. This happens on a vostro 1000 with ati radeon xpress 200M integrated graphics. I removed proprietary fglrx driver following instruction on Ubuntu community pages. Doing this, made bug #498586 dissappear, but another one appear. 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using Ubuntu 10.10 86_64 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy packagename' or by checking in Synaptic. most recent 3) What you expected to happen normal boot 4) What happened instead when the system starts, a blinking cursor appears after which the login screen should appear. Instead, vertical color pixel lines appear all over the screen. This also happens while changing user in a running system. 5) Temporary 'workaround' Closing the lid of the laptop and re-opening it makes the lines dissappear and login screen shows up. This doesn't work when changing user in a running system, forced shut-down and reboot is neccessary. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [ati radeon xpress 200M] vertical color lines on start-up https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/676859 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 308191] Re: Multitouch support not available for Synaptics touchpads v7.2
@Henrik; on an HP Envy15, works in terms of allowing two finger scroll two- finger-tap-as-right-click, but having some problems related to/in addition to #582809 due to clickpad (hinged on top edge, with buttons on the bottom edge): -right and middle mouse button areas of click pad register as left click (same as #582809) -can't click, hold button down, and drag w/ 2nd finger, as 2nd finger gets treated as two-finger-tap-as-right-click, resulting in context menu popup instead of click-drag behavior. I _can_ click the button, hold finger on clickpad and move it around to get some degree of click-and-drag, but if I move up the pad too far, the button releases, and I can't click-drag down, because the button is at the bottom of the pad. can't seem to install both your synaptics-dkms package as well as pauls' psmouse dkms package at the same time and get both fixes, but looks like they're actually both providing the same driver, so that seems expected. -- Multitouch support not available for Synaptics touchpads v7.2 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/308191 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

closing this as invalid because it will require a merge to fix, it builds fine with debian's gcc-4.5 and seems to be a problem specific to our toolchain. It passes when built with -O0. I get NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context at suspend/resume + when switching to console, which eventually leads to hanging X. I got a thread going at nvnews.net (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=157041 ), but have never received any official nvidia-response on these matters, which is not cool at all. This prevents me from upgrading to Maverick (since I'd need to upgrade nvidia driver in that process, because of new X server). Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656279] Re: NVRM: os_raise_smp_barrier(), invalid context!
My thinkpad t510 does suspend and resume with standard kernel and nvidia drivers on 10.10, but graphics are slow on resume. I adapted Claudios script and put it in /etc/pm/sleep.d/10_nvidia-hack, so it automaticlly gets run on suspend and resume. Now graphics are snappy as on fresh boot, so it seems to be working. Strange thing is that dmesg claims that in standard setup non-boot cpu's are disabled on suspend, but that seems not to happen. /Andreas On Thu, Nov 18, 2010 at 4:47 PM, Claudio Melis mebi...@gmail.com wrote: @ Øyvind have you try my script? it disble logical cpu. before 260.19.21 I was unable to resume my laptop but i I disable logical cpu before suspend and reneable after resume all works fine. have a try. 2010/11/18 Øyvind Stegard oyvi...@ifi.uio.no All nvidia drivers from 256.X up to newest 260.91.21 are unusable for me on basically any kernel up to 2.6.37-rc2 (on Lucid x86-64, nvidia NVS 3100M, Dell E6510). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 677148] [NEW] KDE crash occurs randomly within minutes of login
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg The bug causes the KDE window manager to crash, and the gdm login screen to appear after the crash. Running the exact set of applications under Gnome does NOT crash. Therefore this bug is specific to KDE, and may be related to using dual displays with Twinview enabled. I did not see this problem with KDE/Twinview in 10.04, but in 10.10 it randomly crashes. I am not able to reproduce the crash at will. It will occur randomly within a few minutes of starting the KDE session. I will attach the .xsession-errors and file to this bug report. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656279] Re: NVRM: os_raise_smp_barrier(), invalid context!
Their time machine doesn't work as well as yours. Do you expect them to put out a new version of their drivers instantaneously every time there's a new kernel release? Easy cure is to go back a kernel version. If your hardware is less than a few days old, it won't be a problem. [Ubuntu-x-swat] Limit update
Ubuntu 10.10 Maybe I'm doing something wrong but when I add this PPA and do an update it pulls everything. However, all I want are those things that are relevant to my configuration - Nvidia drivers, Xorg updates, anything that is an update to software currently used or required by my system but not software or drivers that are not needed or could damage my install. Everytime I run apt-get upgrade I get packages selected that I don't need. Is there a way around this? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 676826] [NEW] Gimp and gksu (and others maybe) Freezes
You have been subscribed to a public bug: When I'm using complex executions in Gimp like GAP or script-fu or likewise, in a few uses it simply freezes and never get unfreezed. The same when I run gksu many times. It is easy to reproduce in gimp. Try it: 1 - Open Gimp 2 - Open any little image (200x200) in another window (in the same gimp). 3 - Create a new little (200x200) image (separate, not a layer of the previous) 4 - Save it as file_0001.xcf (for GAP compliance) 5 - Go to Video - Duplicate frames and choose almost 30. 6 - Go to Video and Move path... 7 - In the dialog select source image as the opened first (in the step 2 of this guide). 8 - Play with it putting points (just follow GAP guide - http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/Advanced_Animations) 9 - Click in Preview animation button and wait. Do the above two, three or more times... your gimp will become freezed and will stay so for a couple of hours (if not all the time). So, how to work with that? The same problem with gksu: 1 - Open a terminal 2 - Execute gksu something. something maybe just synaptic - gksu synaptic 3 - Put the password 4 - Close the gksued program (synaptic in this example). 5 - Wait some time for the password to expire. 6 - Repeat from 1 When you repeat it many times you will get a gksu freezed the same as gimp just next you put the password. So, the only option to continue is killing gksu. If not you will not see nothing (neither the gksued program) but gksu is freezed. This problem is from version 9 to 10 of Ubuntu. I'm tired about this problem and I have years waiting for the next release of Ubuntu for a solution but never happens. So, people, (just kidding): What are you waiting for... Christmas? Really I'm reporting this because it is a real problem and comes from years ago. I'm tired searching for a solution and nobody talks about a solution from root of this problem (ony failed workarounds). I guess the problem can be related with dbus communication. I don't understand how the visual applications communicates each other, but I guess there is the problem. Because the first time when Gimp becomes freeze I just read about a similar problem with gksu in a forum. The guy suggested to remove some gnome applet. I just removed the Wanda the fish and gimp unfreezed. But right now I removed all applets and gimp still stay freezed (for at least 20 minuts). And I removed metacity, gnome-panel using killall. Executed all newly but Gimp stay freezed. And right now (when I'm writing this) Gimp is still freezed. No matters what I do with the all other applications but I guess there will be some awaiting communication what never will happens. Because a lost of sync or something like that? So, please, get a real solution I need to work with GAP and I'm tired experimenting with all the system searching for a solution. And when GKSU becomes freezed (running from the system itself) it freezes all the desktop. When that happens I cannot interact with anything (neither panel, Alt+Tab, Alt+F2, or whatever, all is freezed). So I must press Ctrl+Alt+F1, login and execute - killall gksu. When I return with Alt+F7 all the desktop is unfreezed. What the f**?? So that is a serious problem and it happens in my desktop computer, in a desktop computer of a friend, in a virtualbox machine running an ubuntu for installing to friends, and in my ubuntu in my netbook too. All versions from 9.04 to 10.04. So it is not an isolated problem of my own computer or system configuration. I guess this bug is still present in 10.10 because nobody is talking about this. But I guess too it is little known because the people don't use a Linux Box like me, so it becomes unnoticeable but it is present hidden in some place. Really. But, as I said: You can trigger it as described above. It is too easy to trigger for me so becomes a annoyance. I cannot work so with my computer. I tried in KDE but the same. I don't tried it in xfce but I guess will happen the same. But anyway I like to work in gnome not KDE or XFCE. So, help me to solve it people, please :P (I don't know how to request you guys :P) Here you can see a video reproducing it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuD--jzNcVc Bye and thank you. My System: Description:Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS Release:10.04 Latest news: I forced to close Gimp and it still let opened some windows just the corresponding to some scripts of GAP. I will attach the screenshots. I tested if I just kill that windows instead of Gimp it get unfreezed (like killing gksu). The last may work as a workaround in Gimp for now (just killing the script or the script window dialog). ** Affects: null Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: freezes gimp -- Gimp and gksu (and others maybe) Freezes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/676826 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed

+1 on The Fiddler, James N and Royisr. This is a major bug and a fix (even an imperfect one) needs to be pushed out as a matter of extreme urgency. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 433142] Re: geode driver do not display 1024x600 on (K)UNR Karmic
Martin, the patch for printing the panel mode to X log has been committed to mail list. Please check. Actually in my previous patch, I have added note that explains why I use entry 7. I think you have seen that. Yes, in the function LXGetLegacyPanelMode(), we firstly check if panel is supported. If that is supported, we will check which resolution we should use. But actually, the entry 7 is not used and reserved in almost every geode board in BIOS setting. So unless you set it in BIOS to use entry 7(that is to say ret value is 7), that will forcelly use my 1024x...@80. Otherwise, the 1024x...@80 will not be used and will not affect your VGA resolutions. Please let the customer see the ret value with my patch. If that is not 7, the resolution failed thing is not caused by my patch. My patch is only for people who want use 1024x600 in panel mode. Our geode platform certainly can support 80Hz refresh under some resolutions. The reason why the Xorg reports failure is because X server prunes some resolutions. That is not to say the geode can not support. Please understand that.
