[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 682986] Re: borders and panels disappears whenever appearance is changed
Well, yeah when you switch between different window managers, the new window manager has to recreate all the window decorations. That's why the borders and buttons disappear. The panel is part of the window manager too, so when switching WM's that'll disappear too. So, so far it isn't sounding like an X issue actually. Maybe it would help if you write down the exact steps you do to reproduce the issue, and indicate expected / actual results. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New -- borders and panels disappears whenever appearance is changed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/682986 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

this is using the 11.04 pre alpha and i wasn't sure what to put down on this through using ubuntu-bug and as i stated all i have to do is change setting in compiz or change the themes through the appearance preferencesome times it keeps working for a while but most of the time it just messes upall of the other versions of ubuntu doesn't do this which is what tells me it is some sort of bug dealing with 11.04 and how it works with gnome, unity, and compiz also this happens on both the classic desktop choice and the default desktop -- borders and panels disappears whenever appearance is changed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/682986 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 650539] Re: SRU: Launching a Qt app crashes X when using Xinerama
Exactly what problem are you seeing? If you've got problems in a single monitor setup then you'll be triggering a different bug. Please feel free to file a new bug so we can start to figure out the cause of your problem. I'm seeing the same problem as Jérôme and Mauro. I have exactly one NVIDIA display adapter, using the proprietary driver (version 173 and current both exhibit the problem), and the adapter is attached to exactly one monitor. Emacs, rxvt, VLC, and xawtv crash the server. Here is the Xorg output: Backtrace: 0: X (xorg_backtrace+0x3b) [0x80e82fb] 1: X (0x8048000+0x5da8d) [0x80a5a8d] 2: (vdso) (__kernel_rt_sigreturn+0x0) [0x13e40c] 3: X (ProcessWorkQueue+0x30) [0x8073a60] 4: X (WaitForSomething+0x56) [0x809fc06] 5: X (0x8048000+0x25d3e) [0x806dd3e] 6: X (0x8048000+0x1a5ba) [0x80625ba] 7: /lib/libc.so.6 (__libc_start_main+0xe7) [0xd3ace7] 8: X (0x8048000+0x1a191) [0x8062191] Segmentation fault at address (nil) Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault). Server aborting I ran through half of the demos in the qtdemo package and none crashed the server. (I don't have all the KDE infrastructure installed, so I didn't test that.) The server does *not* crash when using the free- software NVIDIA driver. I have not been able to disable the Xinerama extension either by putting 'Option Xinerama 0' in the ServerLayout sections, or by using the -xinerama command-line argument to /usr/bin/Xorg. I've read that the NVIDIA driver forces it on or something. So our bug is probably not this one, would you agree? On the unpatched kernel it would sometimes take a while to manifest (sometimes days on my machine) so I'd like to continue testing for a few days before saying there are no regressions. -- [lucid] desktop runs out of video memory on ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507148 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xserver-xorg-driver-ati. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

What does this bug represent at this point? Is this bug really against 11.04 now, or are people looking for support for previous Ubuntu releases? Well, I'm mainly interested in what the support situation for this hardware should be in 11.04 and going forward, as I doubt any of this would qualify for SRU. Chase, key comments to look at here appear to be: Proprietary driver: #31 (original) and 89-90 (latest) evdev patches: #81 I'm not sure what the restrictions are on the proprietary driver as far as redistribution and so on, but the question is whether the MT work you're doing will cover this hardware sufficiently by itself? If not, then what would you need from the hardware vendor to include support in evdev/linux? If including support in the open does not look feasible for now, do you have any thoughts on the proprietary driver? ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 379313] Re: Handling NextWindow Touchscreen (multitouch)
Thanks Bryce! The MT work in X has taken a different form from what was proposed in the message linked in comment #31. However, we are getting near to having an XI 2.1 protocol extension for MT set. I hope to introduce some of the MT work into Natty soon. Kernel drivers need to be written for the MT evdev protocol to work properly. Either the slotted or non-slotted protocol will work, though slotted is better. If the kernel presents working MT evdev data, it will work with the X MT solution. It sounds like the NextWindow proprietary driver does not handle MT data quite yet though. The proprietary nature of the driver will have no affect on its ability to function in the MT stack in ubuntu. Proprietary MT drivers will always be a second class citizen on Ubuntu because they are not installed by default. In fact, this is the first time I've ever heard of a proprietary MT driver being used in Ubuntu. I would strongly recommend NextWindow to open the code or even just the specifications of the hardware so users have the best experience possible. In short: Yes, the proprietary driver will work when it is updated for MT support. Nothing extra will be needed in evdev or elsewhere. -- Handling NextWindow Touchscreen (multitouch) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/379313 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507148] Re: [lucid] desktop runs out of video memory on ATI Radeon Mobility 7500
Ok, I have installed this kernel in a couple of places and am waiting to see real world use. That said, I have a script that: 1. plays a 500M flv file in totem, in repeat mode 2. launches 'glxgears -geometry 1400x1050' (the native resolution of the display, but not full screen mode) 3. launches /usr/bin/gnome-*, firefox and oowriter one at a time, in a loop This brings the system to a crawl, which is fine but with the updated kernel I get a bunch of messages like this in kern.log: [ 2168.016130] radeon :01:00.0: ec7c4600 reserve failed for wait It wasn't until I added glxgears to the mix that these messages started showing up every couple of seconds (prior to running glxgears it only happened once). I booted back into the latest official lucid kernel and ran the same script and saw those messages did not show up in kern.log. The system seems otherwise fine (ie no crashes), but I don't know if that message is purely informational or an indication of something going wrong. I can also say that with the latest official lucid kernel, the guest session is completely unusable, though differently than from Vish in the upstream bug. After upgrading to the patched lucid kernel, the guest session is fully usable.

Alberto says: getting two fingers emulation right for each model is not easy. I don't think we enable it by default on any system. If we are sure that it doesn't break anything on that specific dmi vendor and product name we can safely add a quirk. that would require editing the udev rule (66-xorg-synaptics.rules) and adding a section in 51 -synaptics-quirks.conf -- two-finger scrolling does not work on Dell Studio 15 (1555) via gui config https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/476866 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Is there any status update on this bug? Two-finger scrolling however, still works perfectly fine with two fingers. It's almost impossible to do a three-finger tap on a small touchpad, and as most laptops don't have a hardware button for middleclick, this makes it very hard to make a middleclick (my second-most used mousebutton) with the touchpad. What I tried to fix it myself: I tried to change the mousebutton mapping from 123 etc. to 132 etc. This works for the touchpad, but it also changes the hardware buttons under the touchpad and every other mouse. This is no option. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 682327] Re: Compiz crashes when hitting Alt-Tab - Mesa 7.9 implementation error: bad format in _mesa_format_to_type_and_comps
Actually, the bug is crashing compiz rather than X. It sounds like when doing alt-tab, to draw the dialog compiz is passing in a GL format that mesa doesn't support. _mesa_format_to_type_and_comps in ./src/mesa/main/formats.c is basically just a big huge switch statement for every possible texel format, which is used to generate mipmaps. In this case, it is getting to the end of the switch statement, where it hits the default, which is to issue the format error: _mesa_problem(NULL, bad format in _mesa_format_to_type_and_comps); So, we need to know what format compiz is passing in. ** Also affects: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Compiz crashes when hitting Alt-Tab - Mesa 7.9 implementation error: bad format in _mesa_format_to_type_and_comps https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/682327 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I'm looking into a similar problem with r600, although for me mesa simply causes compiz to segfault. For the bug I'm looking at, there are two work-arounds: 1) Disable mipmapping in the switcher preferences, or 2) Enable r600g by adding the ForceGallium option to xorg.conf They're just work-arounds, but it'd be nice to know if they work around your bug, too. -- Compiz crashes when hitting Alt-Tab - Mesa 7.9 implementation error: bad format in _mesa_format_to_type_and_comps https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/682327 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Chris thinks this is a mesa/r600 issue, and that switching to r600g (the gallium driver) will resolve it. From http://lii-enac.fr/en/projects/shareit/multitouch-devices.html: Wacom has multitouch in their Bamboo Touch and Bamboo PenTouch products. A Wacom multitouch panel is embedded in the HP tm2, HID protocol. Another is is the Fujitsu LifeBook T4410 and T4310, with a serial interface.
