[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 682986] Re: borders and panels disappears whenever appearance is changed

2010-11-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
Well, yeah when you switch between different window managers, the new
window manager has to recreate all the window decorations. That's why
the borders and buttons disappear. The panel is part of the window
manager too, so when switching WM's that'll disappear too. So, so far
it isn't sounding like an X issue actually.

Maybe it would help if you write down the exact steps you do to
reproduce the issue, and indicate expected / actual results.

Oh also, if your goal here is just to get your system back into a usable

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 682986] Re: borders and panels disappears whenever appearance is changed

2010-11-30 Thread zeruke
this is using the 11.04 pre alpha and i wasn't sure what to put down on
this through using ubuntu-bug and as i stated all i have to do is
change setting in compiz or change the themes through the appearance
preferencesome times it keeps working for a while but most of the
time it just messes upall of the other versions of ubuntu doesn't do
this which is what tells me it is some sort of bug dealing with 11.04
and how it works with gnome, unity, and compiz

also this happens on both the classic desktop choice and the default
desktop

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 650539] Re: SRU: Launching a Qt app crashes X when using Xinerama

2010-11-30 Thread Robert Fleming
Exactly what problem are you seeing?

If you've got problems in a single monitor setup then you'll be
triggering a different bug. Please feel free to file a new bug so we
can start to figure out the cause of your problem.

I'm seeing the same problem as Jérôme and Mauro. I have exactly one
NVIDIA display adapter, using the proprietary driver (version 173 and
current both exhibit the problem), and the adapter is attached to
exactly one monitor. Emacs, rxvt, VLC, and xawtv crash the server.
Here is the Xorg output:

  Backtrace:

  8: X (0x8048000+0x1a191) [0x8062191]
  Segmentation fault at address (nil)

Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault). Server aborting

I ran through half of the demos in the qtdemo package and none crashed
the server. (I don't have all the KDE infrastructure installed, so I
didn't test that.) The server does *not* crash when using the free-
software NVIDIA driver.

I have not been able to disable the Xinerama extension either by putting
'Option Xinerama 0' in the ServerLayout sections, or by using the
-xinerama command-line argument to /usr/bin/Xorg. I've read that the
NVIDIA driver forces it on or something.

So our bug is probably not this one, would you agree? I couldn't find a
report for our bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 301958] Re: [needs-packaging] no working driver for sis 671/771 video cards

2010-11-30 Thread Antonio J. de Oliveira
Hello all

@mantas, thanks for the info, I republished all binaries aith all
unneeded symbols removed. You may very easily do this on your own files
with Linux stripper, the equivelent of the windoze I was talking about:

strip --strip-unneeded sis671_drv.so

I didn't do any .deb on purpose my system requires that the drivers are
in a sub-directory of the standard folder, have to check why:

/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/old_sis

the drivers work with 1280x800 since the beginning, that's what I got to
test those, only lately I tried the patched tpurch code (I think) that I
knew worked with the 1366x768 display.

@martin, I will make the code public and warn you, before the end of the
week.

Chers

Antonio

I can confirm this bug in xubuntu 10.10.

Unplugging the external mouse solved this problem for me! Let me know if you

The problem doesn't depend on compiz.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 660596] Re: Black screen after installing Nvidia drivers on 10.10

2010-11-30 Thread Piranha
I downgraded back to 10.4 (reinstalled). I haven't managed to make the
glx module work again, but it worked before, so I'm positive I'll get it
done today or tomorrow.

I'll keep monitoring the thread until there's a solution. I've got a
GeForce 330M and experience the same problem and nothing helps.

Too bad my wireless card doesn't work with 10.4, but I rather have
graphics than wireless internet.

Public bug reported:

I'm suffering problems with my Ubuntu 10.04. The systems runs
slowly;mouse,keyboard,Gnome's menus,etc..
Afeter boot,I run dmesg command, and I found some error messages.
This is a partial dump of dmesg:

Trying solve the problem, I boot Linux with the Kernel parameter
pci=nomsi,noaer.
Now,after booting there are not do_IRQ: 0.83 No irq handler for vector (irq
-1) error messages.
and the system runs perfectly. But after 10 minutes working ok,it becomes slow
again.
The dmesg messages (with pci=nomsi, noaer parameter) is now different:

Well, I'm mainly interested in what the support situation for this
hardware should be in 11.04 and going forward, as I doubt any of this
would qualify for SRU.

Chase, key comments to look at here appear to be:
Proprietary driver: #31 (original) and 89-90 (latest)
  evdev patches: #81

I'm not sure what the restrictions are on the proprietary driver as far
as redistribution and so on, but the question is whether the MT work
you're doing will cover this hardware sufficiently by itself?

If not, then what would you need from the hardware vendor to include
support in evdev/linux?

If including support in the open does not look feasible for now, do you
have any thoughts on the proprietary driver?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 668270] Re: [i965gme] GPU lockup c472ca4a (IPEHR: 0x01820000)

2010-11-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package xserver-xorg-video-intel -
2:2.13.901-2ubuntu1

---
xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.13.901-2ubuntu1) natty; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
- Fixes a GPU lockup when using java (LP: #668270)
  * Remaining Ubuntu changes:
- debian/apport-gpu-error-intel.py, debian/xserver-xorg-video-intel.udev,
  debian/xserver-xorg-video-intel:
Add apport script to collect debug information on GPU hangs
- rules: Install udev rule to run the script when the kernel detects hung
GPU
- 101_copy-fb.patch: Adds feature to driver so Xserver can draw
root windows with no background. This enables smooth boot with
  Plymouth.
- 105_sandybridge_dri_disable.patch: Disable DRI on Sandybridge until it is
  working (drop with mesa 7.10).
- control: Add Recommends on intel-gpu-tools to xserver-xorg-video-intel
package for use by GPU hang scripts.
- xserver-xorg-video-intel.preinst.in, xserver-xorg-video-intel.postinst.in,
  rules:
Don't install /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf, and remove it on upgrades.
At best it's redundant (as the kernel defaults to KMS), at worst it breaks
  the ability to disable KMS.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 379313] Re: Handling NextWindow Touchscreen (multitouch)

2010-11-30 Thread Chase Douglas
Thanks Bryce!

The MT work in X has taken a different form from what was proposed in
the message linked in comment #31. However, we are getting near to
having an XI 2.1 protocol extension for MT set. I hope to introduce some
of the MT work into Natty soon.

Kernel drivers need to be written for the MT evdev protocol to work
properly. Either the slotted or non-slotted protocol will work, though
slotted is better. If the kernel presents working MT evdev data, it will
work with the X MT solution. It sounds like the NextWindow proprietary
driver does not handle MT data quite yet though. The proprietary nature
of the driver will have no affect on its ability to function in the MT
stack in ubuntu.

Proprietary MT drivers will always be a second class citizen on Ubuntu
because they are not installed by default. In fact, this is the first
time I've ever heard of a proprietary MT driver being used in Ubuntu. I
would strongly recommend NextWindow to open the code or even just the
specifications of the hardware so users have the best experience
possible.

In short: Yes, the proprietary driver will work when it is updated for
MT support. Nothing extra will be needed in evdev or elsewhere.

Sorry, just to make this clear: Kernel 2.6.35-22 worked fine, just 2.6.35-23
doesn't.
But 2.6.35-22 does not contain a mosart driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507148] Re: [lucid] desktop runs out of video memory on ATI Radeon Mobility 7500

2010-11-30 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Ok, I have installed this kernel in a couple of places and am waiting to
see real world use. That said, I have a script that:

1. plays a 500M flv file in totem, in repeat mode
2. launches 'glxgears -geometry 1400x1050' (the native resolution of the
display, but not full screen mode)
3. launches /usr/bin/gnome-*, firefox and oowriter one at a time, in a loop

This brings the system to a crawl, which is fine but with the updated kernel I
get a bunch of messages like this in kern.log:
[ 2168.016130] radeon :01:00.0: ec7c4600 reserve failed for wait

It wasn't until I added glxgears to the mix that these messages started
showing up every couple of seconds (prior to running glxgears it only
happened once). I booted back into the latest official lucid kernel and
ran the same script and saw those messages did not show up in kern.log.
The system seems otherwise fine (ie no crashes), but I don't know if
that message is purely informational or an indication of something going
wrong.

I can also say that with the latest official lucid kernel, the guest
session is completely unusable, though differently than from Vish in the
upstream bug. After upgrading to the patched lucid kernel, the guest
session is fully usable.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 476866] Re: two-finger scrolling does not work on Dell Studio 15 (1555) via gui config

2010-11-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
Alberto says: getting two fingers emulation right for each model is not
easy. I don't think we enable it by default on any system. If we are
sure that it doesn't break anything on that specific dmi vendor and
product name we can safely add a quirk. that would require editing the
udev rule (66-xorg-synaptics.rules) and adding a section in 51
-synaptics-quirks.conf

Status in “xserver-xorg-input-synaptics” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

 I'm using: Ubuntu 10.10 beta, xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.2.2-2ubuntu5
Hardware Asus K50IN laptop, with multitouch-touchpad

 What I expected to happen:
I expected two-finger tap to produce a middleclick event, and three-finger
tap to produce a rightclick event

 What happened instead:
two-finger tap produces a rightclick event, three finger tap produces a
middleclick event. Two-finger scrolling however, still works perfectly fine
 with two fingers.

It's almost impossible to do a three-finger tap on a small touchpad, and as
most laptops don't have a hardware button for middleclick, this makes it
very hard to make a middleclick (my second-most used mousebutton) with the
 touchpad.

What I tried to fix it myself:
I tried to change the mousebutton mapping from 123 etc. to 132 etc. This
works for the touchpad, but it also changes the hardware buttons under the
touchpad and every other mouse. This is no option.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 683421] [NEW] xrandr --output does not tab complete right.

2010-11-30 Thread Jesse_Adkins
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: x11-xserver-utils

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 with xrandr version 1.3.4. I have a single output
(default).

So I type this :

$ xrandr -tab

This shows possible options.

$ xrandr --outtab

becomes

$ xrandr --output

The problem is when I do this :

$ xrandr --output tab

I now have

$ xrandr --output xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
default

(A newline is inserted between the two 'default's.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 682327] Re: Compiz crashes when hitting Alt-Tab - Mesa 7.9 implementation error: bad format in _mesa_format_to_type_and_comps

2010-11-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
Actually, the bug is crashing compiz rather than X.

It sounds like when doing alt-tab, to draw the dialog compiz is passing
in a GL format that mesa doesn't support.
_mesa_format_to_type_and_comps in ./src/mesa/main/formats.c is basically
just a big huge switch statement for every possible texel format, which
is used to generate mipmaps. In this case, it is getting to the end of
the switch statement, where it hits the default, which is to issue the
format error:

  _mesa_problem(NULL, bad format in
_mesa_format_to_type_and_comps);

So, we need to know what format compiz is passing in.

Try this mesa patch, which will make mesa tell you what gl format number

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 682327] Re: Compiz crashes when hitting Alt-Tab - Mesa 7.9 implementation error: bad format in _mesa_format_to_type_and_comps

The error message is in mesa, so for now I'm guessing it's not a bug in
the DDX driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 554296] Re: Fonts chipped with subpixel hinting enabled on NV46 (G72M Quadro NVS 110M, GeForce Go 7300)

2010-11-30 Thread Philippe Gauthier
This seems to be fixed in the current release of xserver-xorg-video-
nouveau in maverick (and currently, natty), 1:0.0.16+git20100805

it with the current version of Ubuntu, please don't hesitate to reopen
(by changing it's status to to New or Confirmed).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 682327] Re: Compiz crashes when hitting Alt-Tab - Mesa 7.9 implementation error: bad format in _mesa_format_to_type_and_comps

2010-11-30 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
I'm looking into a similar problem with r600, although for me mesa
simply causes compiz to segfault.

For the bug I'm looking at, there are two work-arounds:
1) Disable mipmapping in the switcher preferences, or
2) Enable r600g by adding the ForceGallium option to xorg.conf

They're just work-arounds, but it'd be nice to know if they work around
your bug, too.

2010-11-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
Chris thinks this is a mesa/r600 issue, and that switching to r600g (the
gallium driver) will resolve it.

Alternately, you could try turning off mipmapping in the switcher
options as a workaround.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 683450] [NEW] Visual Effects won't work with Dual Monitors and Intel 945GME

2010-11-30 Thread David Dean
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 on a HP 530 laptop with an Intel 945 GME
integrated video card. Visual effects work fine on the laptop screen,
but when I go dual-monitor I can't seem to enable visual effects.

Going into the Appearance dialog, setting visual effects appears to work
(i.e. the screens flicker, no error message appears, and the radio
button stays selected), but they don't actually get activated. When I go
back to the Appearance dialog, the visual effects are set back on None.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 678100] Re: Fujitsu T4310 serial wacom touchscreen not working

2010-11-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
As it happens, I have a Fujitsu T4410 myself. Ironically, I'd gotten it
so I could work on Ubuntu's multitouch project, but then found out it
uses a serial interface and the wacom kernel driver so wasn't valid for
our development purposes (which was focused on N-Trig and USB interface
devices).

From http://lii-enac.fr/en/projects/shareit/multitouch-devices.html:

Wacom has multitouch in their Bamboo Touch and Bamboo PenTouch
products. A Wacom multitouch panel is embedded in the HP tm2, HID
protocol. Another is is the Fujitsu LifeBook T4410 and T4310, with a
serial interface. The 'wacom' kernel driver handles these, and is
undergoing work to make it compliant with the kernel multitouch
protocol.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 678100] Re: Fujitsu T4310 serial wacom touchscreen not working

2010-11-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
To get my T4410 working with wacom, I used the attached xorg.conf. (We
could probably pump all that into a udev rule to make it autoconfigure.)

I also did a `sudo modprobe wacom` and restarted X.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 678100] Re: Fujitsu T4310 serial wacom touchscreen not working

2010-11-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
The above gets single-touch working.

To get two-finger touch working (two fingers appears to be the max the
driver can do), I did this:

br...@lynmouth:~$ xsetwacom set touch Gesture on

br...@lynmouth:~$ xinput list-props touch | grep Gesture
Wacom Enable Touch Gesture (266): 1
Wacom Touch Gesture Parameters (267): 50, 20, 250

To test for multitouch functionality, I tried the right click gesture:
Put one finger on the screen, then while holding that on the screen tap
the screen with a second finger. Right click menu pops up.
