[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 425160] Re: compiz.real crashed with SIGSEGV in glXBindTexImageEXT()

2010-12-03 Thread Luke J Militello
So I haven't had any problems since switching to a non-OpenGL
screensaver and running v260.19.21. I can live with this. As long as
the screen locks, screensaver runs and compiz doesn't crash -- I'm
happy.

2010-12-03 Thread kaffelars
Finally got the 2.6.36 mainline kernel to work with both ATI and Nvidia drivers!
Wrote a little howto here: http://www.bjortvedtdata.net/?p=199

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 643895] Re: nvidia propietary driver fails to load X with geforce 310M

2010-12-03 Thread Yorik van Havre
I tested with 260.19.21 too, same problem.

Just for who would encounter the same problem, after you try to use the
nvidia driver, 3D (direct rendering) is unavailable, even with the intel
driver, if you have the nvidia driver installed, because the x server
tries to load the nvidia opengl library. If you uninstall the nvidia
driver, the mesa opengl library becomes available again and you have at
least some 3D support.

I shut the lid of my laptop to put it to sleep while I went on my
commute. THEN, when I opened it again, the screen was black with a mouse
cursor. Everything looked / sounded normal, but i could only see the
  mouse on a black background.

  Restarted using force poweroff.

then I kept getting this program crash.
Not sure what's going on here.. something's crashing over and over again.

  Hope the logs help!

The problem was with video flash in firefox. I have left it in full screen
for a few minutes and screensaver was launched. After pressing a key a could
see the stopped frame from flash video, but sound was going well. I was not
able to exit that full screen or to stop the flash somehow. Moving to a screen
with Ctr+Alt+1 and killing all firefox processes I was able only to stop also
the sound but the frame from flash video remained on screen. Also, over that
video frame appeared the Xubuntu buttons in the up-right corner related to
battery status, wifi and sound volume but they was not active. Ihad to move
back to 1st screen in terminal and to shutdown the machine.
To mention that I am using a Xubuntu running from USB flash with 2GB
persistent storage casper-rw.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 657990] Re: System freeze when i'am not moving the mouse or typing.

2010-12-03 Thread Conor Anderson
In my case 'nolapci_timer' alone did not fix the issue.
It boots as quickly as 'intle_idle.max_cstate=0' but has more frequent pauses
once it has started.

Using 'nolapci_timer clocksource=jiffies' does seem to have resolved the
problem, however I will test it out some more and report back if problems
persist.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 660596] Re: Black screen after installing Nvidia drivers on 10.10

2010-12-03 Thread Sarim Khan
This freaking problem is totally shitting at me. :(

I installed latest driver from both repo and nVidia site. one by one, none of
them worked. :(
I got the sound out of my speaker, i got the display in a remote VNC, but the
Monitor is still in power saving mode. :(
Tried all the suggestions preferred in this thread, but alas, none worked. :(

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 308191] Re: Multitouch support not available for Synaptics touchpads v7.2

2010-12-03 Thread Ricco
I have reverted back to using two-finger emulation, because I just can't
get used to two-finger scrolling with the fingers apart, that is really
unconvenient (same thing as with Windows and official Synaptics driver).

synclient -m 100 reads as follows :
two fingers apart : 2 fingers registered, width 5
two fingers joining : 1 finger registered, width 15

So I understand why two-finger scrolling won't work with the fingers
joining : they register as one finger only.

I just don't feel comfortable with the fingers apart, so I am going back
to my emulation script.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 683459] [NEW] hyper and super keys are mapped to the same modifier

2010-12-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After upgrading to lucid, I see:

 $ xmodmap -pm
xmodmap: up to 4 keys per modifier, (keycodes in parentheses):

shift Shift_L (0x32), Shift_R (0x3e)
lockCaps_Lock (0x42)
control Control_L (0x25), Control_R (0x69)
mod1Alt_L (0x40), Alt_R (0x6c), Meta_L (0xcd)
mod2Num_Lock (0x4d)
mod3
mod4Super_L (0x85), Super_R (0x86), Super_L (0xce), Hyper_L (0xcf)
mod5ISO_Level3_Shift (0x5c), Mode_switch (0xcb)

But it makes no sense for Super and Hyper keys to both be associated
with mod4. I see mod3 is free. Why not have the Hyper_L key on mod3?

It also looks odd to have two Super_L keys in the map, and to have Meta
and Alt on mod1.

XEmacs gives these warnings:

(2) (key-mapping/warning)
Two distinct modifier keys (such as Meta and Hyper) cannot generate
the same modifier bit, because Emacs won't be able to tell which
modifier was actually held down when some other key is pressed. It
won't be able to tell Meta-x and Hyper-x apart, for example. Change
one of these keys to use some other modifier bit. If you intend for
these keys to have the same behavior, then change them to have the
same keysym as well as the same modifier bit.

(3) (key-mapping/warning) XEmacs: Super_R (0x86) generates Mod4, which
is generated by Hyper.

(4) (key-mapping/warning) XEmacs: Super_R (0x86) generates both Mod3
and Mod4, which is nonsensical.

** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Yeah, that'd probably be the easiest next step. It's kind of a stab in
the dark though.

Another patch worth trying is this one:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-intel/commit/?id=a44a63d2ff6c01c3dc61de6f736dd441ddd25e52

According to Sarvatt, that fixed a bunch of GPU lockups like bug
#626967.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 684916] [NEW] [RV280] Guest session screen corruption

2010-12-03 Thread jacopoL
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

When I click on Guest session three things can happen:

1. The Guest session is started and everything works correctly. This
happened only when I tried booting ubuntu with very few Startup
Applications enabled and I started the Guest session without other
applications running.

2. This is the most common situation. The Guest session is started and works
correctly, but the screen on VT8 only shows frozen garbage (i.e. corrupted
fragments of what was present on the screen in VT7, see attached images 01 and
02). I can't see anything in the Guest session but everything works: I can
switch back to VT7 and I can even close the Guest session using blindly my
mouse and keyboard.
I noticed that when I press CTRL-ALT-F7, after leaving the corrupted VT8 screen
and just before entering VT7, I can see for a moment an image of the Guest
session screen updated and without any corruption.
Usually the mouse pointer never gets corrupted and behaves correctly, but
sometimes instead of the mouse pointer I see a square of garbage. Sometimes the
system suddenly hangs of reboots.

3. It seems that the Guest session is starting, but the screen becomes
black and a mesmerizing waterfall of light slowly starts drawing some
scary grey clouds on the screen (see attached image 03). The system
completely hangs and the sysrq keys don't have any effect.

autom4te: /usr/bin/m4 failed with exit status: 1

Not sure how to which version to apply patches there. All patches do not work

Probably best to retrieve the source via:

  apt-get source xserver-xorg-video-intel
  apt-get build-dep xserver-xorg-video-intel

You may need to apply the patch manually, as it looks like they've
renamed files and moved stuff around.

Then you should be able to build the package via the command:

  debuild

That will produce .debs you can install the usual way.

If you need more help on how to patch and build Ubuntu packages, it may
be faster to ask on #ubuntu in IRC, or on askubuntu.com, plus it might
save folks on this bug report some emails. ;-)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 308191] Re: Multitouch support not available for Synaptics touchpads v7.2

2010-12-03 Thread pablomme
@Ricco, carmaxx: you may want to file separate bug reports against the
synaptics-dkms package since your issues seem hardware-dependent. In my
case (Asus Eee PC 1201N), the dkms driver works better than emulation
(no need to keep the fingers apart), and there is no jumpiness when
scrolling.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 684929] [NEW] No display on bootup

2010-12-03 Thread dinky
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Hi, I'm running an up to date Natty Alpha build on an Asus eeepc 901
with an atom processor. While not constant (i.e., sometimes it works,
sometimes it doesn't), I'm finding the computer boots with a black
screen. I can still hear the sounds of the operating system, can still
press the keys and get a response (usually a sound cue), however I can't
see anything. Seems to happen four out of 7 times when I boot, and I
have to do a hard reset.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 613638] [NEW] Adjusting brightness broken after hibernate/suspend

2010-12-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When booting the system normally, the FN+Home (Brightness Up) and FN+End
(Brightness down) hotkeys work perfectly.
However, after hibernating or suspending, nothing happens when these keys are
pressed.
Also doing: echo X /proc/acpi/video/VID/LCD0/brightness
does not work.
When pressing the hotkeys, I can see the value of this proc entry change
correctly though.

I can still change the screen brightness by switching to a terminal
using CTRL+ALT+F1, and use the brightness hotkeys there, and then switch
back to the X session.

It is like the brightness value is being changed in the system, but the event
is not signalled to the screen.
For example if I use the hotkeys to change to brightness value from full to
lowest, and then go to the terminal and use the hotkey, the screen immediatly
jumps from full brightness to lowest brightness (eg. stored value is applied).
Also if the screen is on full brightness, and I adjust the brightness to lowest
and reboot, the system will boot up with low brightness.
Eg. the brightness value I see in /proc/acpi/video/VID/LCD0/brightness is
applied to the screen after reboot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 643895] Re: nvidia propietary driver fails to load X with geforce 310M

2010-12-03 Thread azuluaga
Hi Yorik.

¿How did you uninstalled the nvidia driver?, I tried with apt-get remove
nvidia-* but still have not OpenGL support.

I did last installation by downloading the driver and executing it
manually.

Sorry about this dummy question but I haven't found any way to do it.

Regards.

experiencing is the same bug, except now mutlitouch is working and the

Almost certainly more likely to be a kernel issue, perhaps dupe of bug
#683775. Try the fix Andy posted to that bug and see if it resolves it
for you. If it does, this bug report should be duped to that one.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 643895] Re: nvidia propietary driver fails to load X with geforce 310M

2010-12-03 Thread Philip Muškovac
If you mean you installed the .run from nvidia, then you need to run the
installer again with --uninstall:
./nividia*.run --uninstall
and then reinstall the xserver-xorg-core package since the nvidia installer
removes the xserver libglx file.

2010-12-03 Thread Martin Spacek
I just tried the new nvidia blob from the
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates ppa (260.19.26),
brightness controls still don't work.

2010-12-03 Thread Bryce Harrington
We've stuck the natty version of the driver into the x-updates PPA, as
another option to test:

  https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates

Note you probably need both the -intel driver and xutils-dev.

That's what I'm saying. Per the launchpad specs, it is THIS bug until

You need two things actually, sorry for the incomplete tip:
- make sure none of the nvidia-related packages are installed
- install libgl1-mesa-dri and libgl1-mesa-glx, which provide the default
mesa opengl

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 308191] Re: Multitouch support not available for Synaptics touchpads v7.2

2010-12-03 Thread pablomme
Sorry, I thought you implied that another bug shouldn't be opened since
this one already exists. The freedesktop bug should probably not be
linked from this bug (nor should it link back to this bug) since they
are not the exact same thing: this one is for multitouch support, the
freedesktop one is about an issue with multitouch emulation (which
wouldn't be needed if proper multitouch was available, and the bug would
thus be fixed by implementing multitouch as requested by this bug, but
is still a different issue and should be kept separate).

However note that carmixx's problem is not that in the freedesktop bug;
he refers to scroll jumpiness, not cursor jumpiness.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 562005] Re: Backlight controls of laptops with NVIDIA NVS and Quadro FX 880M GPUs no longer function while using proprietary drivers

2010-12-03 Thread DieterVDW
I tried commenting out the EnableBrightnessControl=1 line and I'm unable to
control the brightness. The on-screen popup shows me that the buttons are
working and I'm changing the value, but screen brightness does not change.
So please consider my testimony in bug #613638 as incorrect, this does not seem
to have something to do with the hibernate/suspend.
(Unless attaching an external monitor influences this behaviour. I had an
external monitor connected when testing this. Will verify, but was probably
just confused.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 643895] Re: nvidia propietary driver fails to load X with geforce 310M

2010-12-03 Thread azuluaga
Thanks Yorik and Philip.

Finally it worked. First I tried to uninstall nvidia drivers as Philip
said by executing the installer with the option --uninstall. After this
I reeboted my machine and the desktop had some weird behavior such as
not top bar (minimize, maximize and so on) on the windows or alt+tab
didn't worked. So I had to reinstall the nvidia drivers to recover my
dekstop.

After read Yorik post I tried by first uninstalling libgl1-mesa-dri and
libgl1-mesa-glx. Then I uninstalled nvidia drivers using the installer
and rebooted my machine. I started again and stopped the gnome dekstop
using an non graphical environment (CTRL + ALT + F1) with sudo service
gdm stop. So, installed libgl1-mesa-dri and libgl1-mesa-glx with sudo
apt.get install libgl1-mesa-dri libgl1-mesa-glx, rebooted again and it
worked!!

Now I can start Stellarium :-)

Thanks in advance.

By the way, I had no idea of the libgl1-mesa* existence ;-).

I am with 10.04 and have no plans to jeopardize stability by upgrading
it. My source for xserver is one year behind some of the patches Bryce
mentioned. The latter do not build. Applying patches/or editing is not
possible as I see it. Apparently, the patched files are present in my
linux source directory. I was able to build
49d2ccab2a82083110fe796636f3f91ba8c31237 (version 2.9.99.901) though.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656243] Re: [i945gme] GPU lockup 846fb991 (IPEHR: 0x01800002) on multimonitor resize

2010-12-03 Thread Robert Hooker
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

When using this computer, I commonly connect and disconnect an external
keyboard and monitor. When I connect them, I run:

  xrandr --output VGA1 --primary
  xrandr --output LVDS1 --off

to get everything displayed ONLY on the external monitor, and when I
  disconnect them, I run:

  xrandr --auto

to get everything displayed ONLY on the built-in LCD.

Sometimes (or after trying this a few times in sequence), bad things
  start to happen. I've noticed:

  - a GPU hang (this bug)
  - [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id
  - xrandr failing with:

X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 150 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request: 7 (RRSetScreenSize)
Serial number of failed request: 28
Current serial number in output stream: 30
  - a 320x200 screen size displayed on the netbook's LCD, and xrandr showing:
  Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 320 x 200, maximum 4096 x 4096

I suspect these are somehow related, but I'm starting with reporting
  this one.

When I'm connected to an external monitor (KVM Switch) and the lid of
the laptop is closed. All output is directed to the external monitor.
When I open the lid of the lapop, I get black screen on both the laptop
monitor. There is no way to unfreeze the computer other than a force
shutdown by pressing the power button.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656243] Re: [i945gme] GPU lockup 846fb991 (IPEHR: 0x01800002) on multimonitor resize

Sorry about the delay, I have enough information here to be sure that
the problem is a WAIT_FOR_EVENT hang on framebuffer resize and am duping
it to the master bug accordingly. The fix is included in the latest
natty packages already and will hopefully be available in maverick-
proposed soon, but if you need a fix as soon as possible backported
packages can be obtained in this PPA:
