[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656279] Re: NVRM: os_raise_smp_barrier(), invalid context!
I have a Thinkpad W510 with nvidia driver 260.19.26 from xswat, running in amd64 maverick, stock 2.6.35-23 kernel. Whenever I resumed from suspend, I mostly noticed the graphics slowdown while (smooth) scrolling a PDF in evince. A reboot restored graphics performance. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573101] Re: No video signal after Log out in gnome when multiple users
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 546578 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/546578 David, I have to disagree with re-entangling two bugs, which seem to be copycats (i.e. displaying similar behaviour). The blackscreen bug #546578 (duplicates #529882, #555298, #555870, #557779, #570687) appears after a few user switches, which can happen with only ONE user on the system. For some people the resolution has been to apply xgamma… The bug has now been related to a fade-out problem in the gnome-screensaver. The blackscreen bug #573101 (duplicates #560911, #561538, #573101, #574909, #577219, #578979, #585685) appears only with MULTIPLE users on the system. The blackscreen appears after one user logs out, even from a failsafe xterm session. So a change to gnome-screenssaver CANNOT be a workaround for bug #573101 (the failsafe session does not run gnome- screensaver) and is therefore not a duplicate of bug #54678. This bug is related to the NVidia driver, which stops the active TTY from displaying the GDM – LoginWindow session (I have confirmed this with SSH). The x-update solution by Connie is the definite resolution for this bug. I would suggest to differentiate between bug #54678 and bug #573101 by marking them as copycats (not an official launchpad option though, but references can be placed in the bug descriptions). Please confine yourself of the difference by reading the bug reports and if so change the duplicates as suggested above (I will not take the liberty myself at this point). Expected results: I expect to see GDM Actual results: I have a black screen Note: I can still press enter and type my password to log in. I knew this worked from the sound of my hard-drive. To be certain, on a subsequent test, I did ALT+F2 and ran touch testfile. After a reboot, there was a file called 'testfile' in my home directory. But all this was performed with a black screen. Then I've made 2 users. Then I login as one user and switch to the second user using gnome menu (not gdm). (New feature in lucid). When I do Log Out from the second user - video signal disappears and I'm not able to use neither X nor tty to do something with the system. I have Nvidia driver (version 173.14.22) turned on. When I turn it off and do the steps described above - video signal remains, but when I return to the screen of the first user - the brightness of the screen goes very low. (Fade bug in Gnome?) And sometimes I even get black screen with lonely mouse. (The screen is not unfaded). Maybe there are two different bugs? With nvidia driver (when screen is reset). And with gnome unfading when unlocking the screen. Login to user B, ensure all is working properly and logout from user B. - screen goes black - keyboard no longer works - mouse no longer works 100% reproduceable. However, I can: 1. ssh -X into the machine w/o issue. I can bring up gui's from the affected machine (i.e., gnome-system-log, vino-preferences, etc). 2. remote login to the machine via VNC and get a screen; however I then get multiple tserver instances have to kill it. Remote login to the machine using NX w/o issue. 3. reboot the machine from the remote ssh. Attempts to resolve: - 1. Ensured that the problem exists with enhanced graphics turned off (System|Preferences|Appearance|Visual Effects|None) + 1. Ensured that the problem exists with enhanced graphics turned off (System|Preferences|Appearance|Visual Effects|None) 2. Ensured that the problem wasn't related to gnome-screensaver as per similar reports (purged gnome-screensaver, installed gnome-screensaver 2.30.0-0ubuntu2 etc). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 662998] Re: System freezes when running on battery
Yes, 605967 looks similar, but the original post was for Ubuntu 10.04, which never froze on my system, even after I gave up on 10.10 and reinstalled Lucid. There is a bunch of other testimonials on the forum: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1595196 One thing that has not been mentioned in this thread: the magic key sequences to reboot Linux don't work either. On my system, I tried disabling the wireless, and I thought it was fixed, but just as I was typing my findings (on Ethernet), it froze again... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/662998 Title: System freezes when running on battery ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

It just happened in this box while typing out this bug. It happens intermittently but often enough to be highly annoying and buggable. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 688153] [NEW] Kwin OpenGL Compositing + mplayer (-vo gl) fullscreen - kwin crash (30% chance)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel The Admin over at KDE Bugs was sure this is a driver issue. So, posting it here. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=259287 See the related bug too. Application: kwin (4.5.1 (KDE 4.5.1)) KDE Platform Version: 4.5.1 (KDE 4.5.1) Qt Version: 4.7.0 Operating System: Linux 2.6.35-23-generic x86_64 Distribution: Ubuntu 10.10 -- Information about the crash: - What I was doing when the application crashed: After enabling OpenGL compositing on the kubuntu desktop, I played an hd movie on commandline mplayer which starts by default on fullscreen. The output mode was gl. kwin crashed immediately. This occurs about 30% of my fullscreen movie playbacks only when compositing is enabled and only using opengl compositing (as opposed to xrender: a reasonable number of attempts with no crashes) There appears to be no crash using the xv output of mplayer either. - Custom settings of the application: No compositing effects were turned on (except a few that activated during login/logout) Running on Core i3 with latest drivers from ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates The crash can be reproduced some of the time. -- Backtrace: Application: KWin (kwin), signal: Segmentation fault [Current thread is 1 (Thread 0x7f87e3f8f780 (LWP 1635))] Thread 2 (Thread 0x7f87c0bbd710 (LWP 1650)): #0 0x7f87e38052e3 in select () at ../sysdeps/unix/syscall-template.S:82 #1 0x7f87e00df76e in qt_safe_select (nfds=16, fdread=0xe13830, fdwrite=0xe13ac8, fdexcept=0xe13d60, orig_timeout=0x0) at kernel/qcore_unix.cpp:82 #2 0x7f87e00e4beb in QEventDispatcherUNIXPrivate::doSelect (this=0xe13670, flags=value optimized out, timeout=value optimized out) at kernel/qeventdispatcher_unix.cpp:219 #3 0x7f87e00e581b in QEventDispatcherUNIX::processEvents (this=0xddf850, flags=) at kernel/qeventdispatcher_unix.cpp:919 #4 0x7f87e00b4a02 in QEventLoop::processEvents (this=value optimized out, flags=) at kernel/qeventloop.cpp:149 #5 0x7f87e00b4dec in QEventLoop::exec (this=0x7f87c0bbcd90, flags=) at kernel/qeventloop.cpp:201 #6 0x7f87dffbf2fd in QThread::exec (this=value optimized out) at thread/qthread.cpp:490 #7 0x7f87e00945f8 in QInotifyFileSystemWatcherEngine::run (this=0xe125e0) at io/qfilesystemwatcher_inotify.cpp:248 #8 0x7f87dffc227e in QThreadPrivate::start (arg=0xe125e0) at thread/qthread_unix.cpp:266 #9 0x7f87dfd37971 in start_thread (arg=value optimized out) at pthread_create.c:304 #10 0x7f87e380c94d in clone () at ../sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/x86_64/clone.S:112 #11 0x in ?? Since maverick is released, we're not doing further development on it, however for serious issues sometimes patches are accepted. So, if you'd like to help improve the state of i915 in maverick, please look through the upstream changes and propose patches that you think would make i915 better.
