[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 670807] Re: Black screen blinking white cursor after installing Ubuntu 10.10
Hey there, I had a similar problem. I installed Ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition in a partition on a Acer Aspire. I did this using a USB. After install I reset the BIOS boot queue to its original settings. Every time I boot the netbook with any mass storage device plugged in to USB (flashdrive, ipod, 'phone) I get the black screen with cursor (it boots ok with a mouse). If I pull out USB devices, it begins to boot as normal. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/670807 Title: Black screen blinking white cursor after installing Ubuntu 10.10 ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 703382] Re: [i965gm] GPU lockup 202bc51f (EIR: 0x00000010)
Thanks for reporting this bug. It looks similar to bug #702090, except this one has a more complete batch buffer. I am not sure what's caused this lockup though. I'd like to send this upstream, however they will want to see the bug reproduced with newer X packages. We're going to be moving natty to its new X stack within the next week or so. Currently this stack is available in xorg-edgers, and our testing is showing it to be quite stable. I'd like to have you attempt to reproduce your issue with this new stack. If it still occurs with that stack, we can then take the the bug upstream, or approach the kernel team or other appropriate groups about it. (They may also want to see it reproduced with the latest -intel driver, so we may have to have you do some additional testing after this, but at least this will be an easy starting point.) The PPA is available at: https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa Here's a simple way to install: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade Then reboot your system to get to the new bits. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 660596] Re: Black screen after installing Nvidia drivers on 10.10
I got the exact same problem. I have an NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M, and got this same problem, when I tried to update to the NVIDIA 3D Acceleration Driver update (from NVIDIA). I'd also got the black screen (everytime I tried), and had to reboot in Recovery Mode, and edit the 'xorg.conf' file, back to the 'nv' driver. And then it works fine again, but without the 3D Acceleration software, in the NVIDIA driver. I hope to see an update, on this bug very soon. Thank you in advance! :-) ** Changed in: nvidia-drivers-ubuntu Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/660596 Title: Black screen after installing Nvidia drivers on 10.10 ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I'm duping 683314 here even though the error codes differ, because it's the same reporter and same symptoms (lockup on resume from hibernate). In natty, the desktop team is deprecating hibernate (the kernel team wants to disable it completely, but we'll see). For this reason I'm setting the priority to Low, and recommending that the feature not be used if it exhibits this bug. Sorry, I know that's probably not the answer you hope to hear, but apparently hibernate has been extremely buggy in general, and is often found to be far too slow anyway. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/672853 Title: [gm45] GPU lockup resume from hibernate (EIR: 0x0010 ESR: 0x0011 PGTBL_ER: 0x0003 ) ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I think the next step for this bug is to re-test against that package, and then if it still occurs, bring this issue to the attention of the Intel devs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/686388 Title: [i965gm] GPU lockup - Invalid GTT entry during Display B Fetch ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
