[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 670807] Re: Black screen blinking white cursor after installing Ubuntu 10.10

2011-01-18 Thread Tom Owen
Hey there, I had a similar problem.

I installed Ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition in a partition on a Acer
Aspire. I did this using a USB. After install I reset the BIOS boot
queue to its original settings. Every time I boot the netbook with any
mass storage device plugged in to USB (flashdrive, ipod, 'phone) I get
the black screen with cursor (it boots ok with a mouse). If I pull out
USB devices, it begins to boot as normal.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 703783] Re: Wacom BambooFun tablet powered, but no input

2011-01-18 Thread Favux
Did you also use the updated xf86-input-wacom? The Maverick default
0.10.8 does not have your model in it either. See the Bamboo P T HOW
TO: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1515562 And post #2 for
adding new models.

By the way touch was fixed with the commits to the git repository last
night.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 644740] Re: [GM45] GPU Hang when enabling KDE desktop effects

2011-01-18 Thread am
I have also seen this problem. I have ubuntu 10.10 (not kubuntu). I
upgraded from Lucid. Ubuntu and gnome work fine, but I decided to give
kde a try and I installed kubuntu-desktop via synaptic. I got the same
problem. I have a lenovo w500 laptop and lspci gives

Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated
Graphics Controller (rev 07)

Same problem. I get the hangcheck error when effects are enabled.
Gnome still works fine and I use full effect there.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 700515] Re: ubuntu-bug xorg_Strange White Lines

2011-01-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
We're going to be moving natty to its new X stack within the next week
or so. Currently this stack is available in xorg-edgers, and our
testing is showing it to be quite stable.

I'd like to have you attempt to reproduce your issue with this new
stack. If it still occurs with that stack, we can then take the the bug
upstream, or approach the kernel team or other appropriate groups about
it.

The PPA is available at:
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa

Here's a simple way to install:
  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get upgrade

Then reboot your system to get to the new bits.

If you want to go back to stock Ubuntu, there is a corresponding
ppa-purge tool:
  sudo ppa-purge xorg-edgers
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get upgrade

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 700282] Re: [i945gm] GPU lockup 585b0b66 (PGTBL_ER: 0x00000102)

2011-01-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Andree, can you tell me more about this second time it happened? Did
apport pop up to report the bug? (If it does in the future, please do
file it again; sometimes the extra logs for comparison can help isolate
the issue). What were you doing leading up to the lockup?

We're going to be moving natty to its new X stack within the next week
or so. Currently this stack is available in xorg-edgers, and our
testing is showing it to be quite stable.

I'd like to have you attempt to reproduce your issue with this new
stack. If it still occurs with that stack, we can then take the the bug
upstream, or approach the kernel team or other appropriate groups about
it.

The PPA is available at:
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa

Here's a simple way to install:
  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get upgrade

Then reboot your system to get to the new bits.

If you want to go back to stock Ubuntu, there is a corresponding
ppa-purge tool:
  sudo ppa-purge xorg-edgers
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get upgrade

Regarding bug 627011, yeah it's the same gpu dump, although in this case
I'm not sure that is relevant since the dump just shows all the
registers zero'd out.

I'm not sure what to do to solve this bug. I'd like to send it

versions of things.

Upstream says this issue will be fixed in an upcoming release.

Unfortunately, we're about to upload xserver 1.10 within the next week

be some time).

2011-01-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
Thanks for reporting this bug. It looks similar to bug #702090, except
this one has a more complete batch buffer. I am not sure what's caused
this lockup though. I'd like to send this upstream, however they will
want to see the bug reproduced with newer X packages.

We're going to be moving natty to its new X stack within the next week
or so. Currently this stack is available in xorg-edgers, and our testing
is showing it to be quite stable.

I'd like to have you attempt to reproduce your issue with this new
stack. If it still occurs with that stack, we can then take the the bug
upstream, or approach the kernel team or other appropriate groups about
it.

(They may also want to see it reproduced with the latest -intel driver,
so we may have to have you do some additional testing after this, but at
least this will be an easy starting point.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 686388] Re: [i965gm] GPU lockup - Invalid GTT entry during Display B Fetch

2011-01-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
It's a good idea to retain dmesg log files longer on the development
version. That could be filed as a wishlist bug if you'd like. On the
other hand, in the development version of Ubuntu we get a new kernel
more often than once a month, and *usually* will care only about bugs
and dmesgs for the latest kernel.

I can't reproduce the problem here (using the same driver and kernel).
Furthermore the package has a patch that is supposed to fix this issue.

Please type the following command:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure linux-headers-2.6.37-12-server

Then attach the following file:
/var/lib/dkms/fglrx/8.801/build/make.sh.log

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 703210] Re: Power converter kits for international travel negatively affects touchpad

2011-01-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
I notice this in your XorgLog:

[ 5994.912] (EE) intel(0): Failed to submit batch buffer, expect
rendering corruption or even a frozen display: Invalid argument.

Subsequent to that it re-acquires the touchpad (and monitor, and usb
mouse):

[ 5995.208] (--) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: touchpad found

Working theory... the power adapter causes a gpu lockup that the kernel
recovers from, but X doesn't reload the touchpad settings and thus
misses a quirk/workaround for the jumpy cursor.

Can you test this theory, by booting fresh on battery, then running
'tail -f /var/log/Xorg.0.log' in a window, and plug in your power
adapter. If the theory is true, the batch buffer error message should
print out, and then the touchpad should start behaving weird.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

I'm in Israel right now and I have my adapter set up properly with my
laptop, but the touchpad is flipping out.

Cursor jumps randomly and clicks even when I haven't clicked.

My USB mouse is not affected and the problem with the touchpad
  disappears once unplugged.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 687445] Re: The strange white lines appeared on the top of screen

2011-01-18 Thread William A Ellerbe
@Bryce Harrington - Thank you so much for your suggestion kind sir. As
of 2:38pm I will attempt to bump up my installation of Ubuntu 11.04 to
the new X stack per the instructions you have laid out for me. When I
reboot my system to get to the new bits, I will follow up with you
to let you know how the upgrade. If I may offer some APPRECIATION, I
wanted to point out that the Ubuntu logo on the splash screen looks
MUCH better than before. It's very clean and has the beautiful
graphical glow that I remember from previews installations of Ubuntu.
Until then take care and make it a great day.

On 01/18/2011, Bryce Harrington 687...@bugs.launchpad.net wrote:
We're going to be moving natty to its new X stack within the next week
or so. Currently this stack is available in xorg-edgers, and our
testing is showing it to be quite stable.

I'd like to have you attempt to reproduce your issue with this new
stack. If it still occurs with that stack, we can then take the the bug
upstream, or approach the kernel team or other appropriate groups about
 it.

 The PPA is available at:
 https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa

Here's a simple way to install:
   sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
   sudo apt-get update
   sudo apt-get upgrade

Then reboot your system to get to the new bits.

If you want to go back to stock Ubuntu, there is a corresponding
 ppa-purge tool:
   sudo ppa-purge xorg-edgers
   sudo apt-get update
   sudo apt-get upgrade

I get the same symptoms with the latest packages from xorg-edgers as
well. Apport tells me about a crash but complains the package is not
from Ubuntu so I can't confirm my GPU dump is the same.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 704607] [NEW] Packaging issues in nvidia-current

2011-01-18 Thread Brandon Snider
Public bug reported:

Several issues exist with the 260 blob as packaged currently in Natty. A
new file has been added to the shared libs, libnvcuvid.so.$version. It
needs to be installed. Also, the 32-bit links file adds links to the
file libXvMCNVIDIA.so.$version, except that file is not being installed
by the rules file, so the links are broken. Both of those files can be
installed by adding;

dh_install -p$(PKG_driver) $(dirname_x86)/libnvcuvid.so*
$(PKG_libdir32)
dh_install -p$(PKG_driver) $(dirname_x86)/libXvMCNVIDIA.so.*
$(PKG_libdir32)

to the empty lines 247 and 250 in the rules file.

The 32-bit and regular links have to be added for the libnvcuvid lib as
well.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 660596] Re: Black screen after installing Nvidia drivers on 10.10

2011-01-18 Thread Kasper Nymand
I got the exact same problem.

I have an NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M, and got this same problem, when I tried to
update to the NVIDIA 3D Acceleration Driver update (from NVIDIA).
I'd also got the black screen (everytime I tried), and had to reboot in
Recovery Mode, and edit the 'xorg.conf' file, back to the 'nv' driver.

And then it works fine again, but without the 3D Acceleration
software, in the NVIDIA driver.

I hope to see an update, on this bug very soon.

Thank you in advance! :-)

+ i965gm GPU lockup after suspend failed (EIR: 0x0010)

I'm assuming this is because my suspend failed but I also had a black
screen on boot until X started so perhaps it was something plymouth
  related.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 643895] Re: nvidia propietary driver fails to load X with geforce 310M

2011-01-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
Thanks. I think all of these are instances of bug #686388, which is already
reported upstream.
I'm going to hold off on duplicating this bug to that one for the time being
though, since there are some minor differences in symptoms and logs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 672853] Re: [gm45] GPU lockup resume from hibernate (EIR: 0x00000010 ESR: 0x00000011 PGTBL_ER: 0x00000003 )

2011-01-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
I'm duping 683314 here even though the error codes differ, because it's
the same reporter and same symptoms (lockup on resume from hibernate).

In natty, the desktop team is deprecating hibernate (the kernel team
wants to disable it completely, but we'll see). For this reason I'm
setting the priority to Low, and recommending that the feature not be
used if it exhibits this bug. Sorry, I know that's probably not the
answer you hope to hear, but apparently hibernate has been extremely
buggy in general, and is often found to be far too slow anyway.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 609619] Re: [arrandale] GPU lockup 587b89c3

2011-01-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi, unfortunately the automatic gpu dumper tool didn't work right and
didn't produce a valid bug report.

If you still reproduce this bug in natty, please re-report it.

IntelGpuDump:
Error: command ['intel_gpu_dump'] failed with exit code 1: Error opening
/sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_ringbuffer_info: No such file or directory

Perhaps your i915 kernel driver has no support for dumping batchbuffer
data?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 600116] Re: [gm45] GPU lockup f822dc02

2011-01-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

This lockup occurred during the investigation of bug #531069, when
resuming my laptop in the docking station with the lid down and an
external monitor plugged in via VGA.

The VGA monitor is never lit up, and the internal LVDS, once I open the
lid, is up with the mouse pointer movable, but nothing else.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 697710] Re: [i965gm] GPU lockup 7a4d7a3b (crash on attaching external projector)

2011-01-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I disconnected my external screen, suspended, resumed, attached an external
projector.
The machine immediately locked up (unresponsive to switching virtual
terminal, no network response) - before I'd tried to change the display
configuration etc
This usually works fine, so I think it's an intermittent bug

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 704663] [NEW] [i965gm] Brightness changed

2011-01-18 Thread pschonmann
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Hi, when i want to change refresh rate from 50 to 60 hz then screen
decrease brightness. It was caused in playing freedroidrpg but you can
simulate it via Monitor preferences. When something trying estimate
screen modes, then screen is little bit black, because brightness is
lowered by too many steps.

How to reproduce:

Go to monitor preferences
10 Change refresh rate from 50 to 60 or vice versa
20 apply settings
30 goto 10

if youre enough to see diference unloop yourself.

Im using latest PPA xorg-edgers
notebook Lenovo T61

I was unable to report it with more logs or any other tools via ubuntu-
bug tool. It said that xserver-xorg-video-intel isnt official ubuntu
package - maybe reason its from PPA

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 686388] Re: [i965gm] GPU lockup - Invalid GTT entry during Display B Fetch

2011-01-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
Intel has released a Q4 drop of the -intel driver. I think the next
step for this bug is to re-test against that package, and then if it
still occurs, bring this issue to the attention of the Intel devs.
