[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 687738] Re: nvidia driver shows magnet distortion-like screen corruption and tearing when switching workspaces

2011-01-19 Thread Didier Roche
So, I finally found which compiz plugin was doing that… It's the unity
one. I have no issue in the classic session with exactly the same
settings apart from unity loaded.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 704588] Re: package fglrx 2:8.801-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 685017 ***

Will it work well if I install the OS? In previous versions of Ubuntu as
well I faced issues with fglrx. I have ATI Radeon HD 5670 and after
downloading the latest binary drivers from AMD/ATI site it used to work, but
after any upgrades (usually kernel upgrades) it would fail again. So I
wanted to check whether this card works well with Ubuntu 11.04 Alpha.

Yeah, there's some foundational bugs that prevent installation of binary
drivers in the usb live environment from actually working. Consider it
 unsupported for now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 572957] Re: screen resolution changes when log out or change user

2011-01-19 Thread Victor Jimenez
After upgrading to Ubuntu 10.10, I still have this problem.
Are there any news related to it?

I was also wondering why this bug has low priority. I understand it's
not a kernel panic, but if Ubuntu wants to be an easy-accessible OS,
bugs like this one should not happen. They make Ubuntu look very
amateur.

If there is any way I can obtain more information (through logs,
debugging, etc.), please let me know and I will try to submit as much
information as necessary in order to fix this problem.

Thank you!

OK, I'll do this at the weekend.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 704880] [NEW] Xinerama gets wrong screen information

2011-01-19 Thread Bolesław Tokarski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Well, I only think that this has to do with Xinerama.

I dock my Dell E6410 laptop. Docking station has a DVI monitor
connected. Ubuntu Lucid puts the DVI monitor on the right, while it is
physically on the right. So I move it to the left and a bit up as the
lower border of the screens are on the same level.

Now when I maximize window, it takes 3/4 of the monitor's screen or
spans through two screens. See attached photo.

Somehow the windows think that the smaller laptop screen is on the left
and the larger one is on the right, while this is the opposite.

I got this just now. More than a week since last time. Plugged in a USB
mouse and with that re-suspended the machine. Still not either touchpad
or keyboard after resume. Did it once more, still nothing.

Yes, I know that.
And the 'nv' (open-source) is not really supported with 3D Acceleration,

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 704944] [NEW] Mouse control gone crazy

2011-01-19 Thread Jeroen T. Vermeulen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

My mouse control has been going crazy lately. This is on a MacBook Pro,
June 2009 model, running Maverick.

Symptoms:
 * Phantom right-button clicks, popping up unexpected menus and creating
unwanted folders in Nautilus.
 * Mouse clicks appear to be ignored.
 * Attempts to drag an icon on my desktop turn into drag-select boxes.
 * Attempts to drag an icon on my desktop creates unexpected links to
applications instead.
 * ubuntu-bug claims it can't capture my mouse.

Usually, switching to a different virtual desktop (using the keyboard)
and back sometimes fixes it for a while. Then, possibly as soon as one
mouse click later, things go wrong again.

2011-01-19 Thread Gaizka
Same problem of black screen before login. In ubuntu 10.04 32-bit it
worked to me (I wonder why I switched to 10.10 64 bit)

I have tried all drivers from synaptics and also installed drivers manually
from nvidia web.
Now, I'm runnig with nv.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 705003] [NEW] Sync libxt 1:1.0.9-1 (main) from Debian experimental (main)

Public bug reported:

Please sync libxt 1:1.0.9-1 (main) from Debian experimental (main)

Changelog entries since current natty version 1:1.0.7-1:

libxt (1:1.0.9-1) experimental; urgency=low

  [ Julien Cristau ]
  * Rename the build directory to not include DEB_BUILD_GNU_TYPE for no
good reason. Thanks, Colin Watson!
  * New upstream release.
  * Update debian/copyright from upstream COPYING.

  [ Robert Hooker ]
  * Don't install makestrs and its man page in libxt-dev, it's not shipped
anymore.

[ Christopher James Halse Rogers ]
  * New new upstream release.
  * Drop debian/patches/02_dont_export_private_deps.diff:
- Upstream has trimmed the Required list in xt.pc, and a libXt header
  includes a #define which uses a libX11 symbol, so libX11 should be
in the Requires field (and is). This fixes lots of FTBFS with
binutils-gold, which doesn't consider indirect dependencies.

  [ Cyril Brulebois ]
  * Update debian/copyright from upstream COPYING.
  * Exclude libXt.la in dh_install call.
  * Switch dh_install from --list-missing to --fail-missing for added
safety.
  * Add myself to Uploaders.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 540112] Re: Can not change LCD brightness on Lenovo Y450 laptop

2011-01-19 Thread Paul Abrahams
What is the best way to install the EnableBrightnessControl fix if
xorg.conf doesn't exist (a common situation now)? I tried creating
xorg.conf as

Section Device
Identifier Configured Video Device
Driver fbdev
Option RegistryDwords EnableBrightnessControl=1
EndSection

with material copied from xorg.conf.failsafe but that didn't have any
effect.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 690755] Re: poor graphics performance with nvidia-current in maverick

2011-01-19 Thread dorpm
Obviously a still existing bug for cooperation of nvidia and xorg 1.9. I
reverted to xorg of Lucid and received much more performance (see also
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9874780postcount=12).

Hopefully this bug disappears soon!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 567696] Re: [Radeon] [Lucid] [mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop

2011-01-19 Thread Frank Piper
Lucid/10.04. Also seeing this issue. When System/Prefs/Appearance/Visual
Effects set to anything other than None, system fails within an hour or so:
- Mouse delayed/slow response; system otherwise unresponsive.
- Xorg gets wedged and goes to 100% CPU.
- Xorg log contains EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an
infinite loop.
- kern.log contains Uhhuh. NMI received for unknown reason a1 on CPU 0

Backtrace whatnot on request.

Recovery: SSH in and reboot, or do the alt-PrtSc-R,E,I,S,U,B shuffle.

T60, X1400, Lucid 10.04 with all patches up to date, 2.6.32-27-generic,
vanilla /etc/default/grub. Desktop extended onto an external monitor
using xrandr.

Workaround: set System/Prefs/Appearance/Visual Effects to None... with
this setting system is rock-solid (but boring).

Thanks for any help/ideas/suggestions.

Tx for

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585923] Re: [gm45] xserver completely freezes each time when executing paraview

2011-01-19 Thread itsjareds
I am having the same problem when running any graphics intense program
on 2.6.35-24-generic kernel, Maverick. I am able to switch to a TTY
(albeit very slowly, and the TTY is being spammed with that error).
However, even after running `sudo restart gdm' I cannot get to a
functional GUI - black screen.

I tried updating to xorg-edgers PPA; however, these new drivers leave me
not able to start Compiz and the window list, gnome-workspace, and Show
desktop panel applets crash. I have to stop the program wnck-applet
because it is taking up a lot of processing power due to what seems to
be an infinite loop of creating new windows that say Starting ...

When I switch to TTY with the xorg-edgers drivers, I get the same log
output as previously mentioned (hangcheck timer elapsed, render head ctl
reset to 0). I would really appreciate a fix to this bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 687738] Re: nvidia driver shows magnet distortion-like screen corruption and tearing, particularly when switching workspaces

2011-01-19 Thread Bryce Harrington
Didier, aha interesting. So the next question is if it is a coding
error in the unity plugin, or a fault in the driver that unity simply
exercises. We probably should rule out a coding error first, before
bothering NVIDIA about it, or gain a better understanding of what in the
driver is causing the trouble.

The next step might be to try to narrow down to a test case, such as a
stripped down unity with just the code present that leads to the bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 638654] Re: It's difficult for the user to know the current state of capslock, or if they've accidentally enabled it

2011-01-19 Thread Elazar Leibovich
It is very relevant for the keyboard option (you can get to them by
right clicking the indicator application), where it should clearly state
something like Warning, setting capslock to switch keyboard layouts
will make shift+Capslock to turn on the capslock.

So please add it as relevant to the keyboard layout preferences.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656241] Re: Mixxx with ATI graphics card (using FGLRX) crashes Ubuntu

2011-01-19 Thread phil
Just a tip for all ubuntu users, if it is not mentioned somewere above: Before
starting up mixxx, make sure you have compiz disabled. To do so, turning it
off, or setting the visual effects to off, isn't enough cause compiz window
manager would still run in the background.
Just hit Alt + F2 and type , metacity --replace. This is the only way to
disable compiz completely. If you need to revert back, Alt + F2 compiz
--replace. Quotations excluded ofcourse.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 681054] Re: screen repeatedly goes black for a fraction of a second

2011-01-19 Thread Cobalt
No, I have only one monitor, although at some level - at least for
maverick and older versions - the computer seems to think that I have
two. This is probably at least part of the cause of the other bug
(#606987) I mentioned in the original description of this problem.

Again, maverick runs from the hard drive; natty only from a live CD.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 689507] Re: Doesn't support Nvidia Geforce GTS 360M

2011-01-19 Thread Ricardo Sansores Aguilar
I can confirm this problem. I was able to install ubuntu 10.04 but after
install you can't start Xs. This is solvable disabling noveau from grub
and uninstalling noveau in text mode. In ubuntu 10.10 is other history,
you can't even run the installation and the only way I could install it
was downloading the special text mode ubuntu iso.

I think, ubuntu should always install using max video compatibility and
during installation ask if you want to use noveau or privative drivers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 689507] Re: Doesn't support Nvidia Geforce GTS 360M

2011-01-19 Thread Rogelio Delgado
I can confirm this bug too. I try to install ubuntu 10.10 in my Asus
GJ51 with an Nvidia Geforce GTS 360M video card and, after choosing
install ubuntu, the screen shows multiples little squares of video
noise (I don't find a best description) so I'm not allowed to do
nothing. To resolve this, I perform the following steps:

1.- I must install ubuntu using the Alternative iso.
2.- In console mode, disable the noveau drivers.
3.- Download the official nvidia.
4.- Install the official drivers.

So, with no post installation actions , I'm not able to install nor use
Ubuntu. :(

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 694430] Re: mesa bug affects new kernels

2011-01-19 Thread John S. Gruber
natty has moved the mesa package version past that in my ppa.

As an update, there are plans to upgrade mesa in natty to 7.10, perhaps
shortly if xorg-edgers testing goes well. It appears to me that the
upstream patch referred to above is currently included in 7.10. (5b15b5f
in git://cgit.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa)

Thank you for your bug report.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 638025] Re: Cannot disable 'tap to touch' on touchpad Dell Inspiron 1545

2011-01-19 Thread Phil-ganchev
I have the same laptop model (Inspiron 1545), which I bought from Dell
with Ubuntu 9.10 pre-installed. Everything worked until the touchpad
broke in late November 2010. However, my symptoms are slightly
different: I can't use the right touchpad button but can move the
cursor. Tapping is extremely sensitive and can't be disabled. See my bug

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 705286] [NEW] Problem in setting GLX option with nvidia 96.43.19 with xserver-xorg-core 1.9.0-0ubuntu7.1.

2011-01-19 Thread Ranjan Sinha
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-core

I have installed nvidia driver version 96.43.19 from nvidia.com because
of the well know problem between xserver v1.9 and older nvidia driver
shipped with maverick. Up until 29th December everything was working
fine but then I saw an update of xserver-xorg-core package and installed
that. The GDM starts fine and shows the initial login screen but when I
try to log into the system, the session does not start and it again
takes me back to login screen. After looking at the error log it seemed
to me that there was an issue with GLX option and sure enough after I
disabled GLX option things started working fine. Of course with glx
disabled none of the cool desktop effects work.
