>From the Fedora bug report: > I have an HP Pavilion DM4-1060US. Once the full X server starts via gdm, display is > visible. > > Similar to Description above, adding nomodeset to the kernel command line > causes the boot messages to remain visible, although X cannot start because it > depends on kernel modesetting in order to operate. The Fedora reporter also tried Ubuntu 10.10, and attached many log files, which may be useful to his report. Contrary to what he says, though, and in key with what the Ubuntu bug description says, using Fn+F3 to increase brightness is enough to see Plymouth on my laptop (a dm4-1170sf). And maybe it's useful to restate that this bug only affects Plymouth: when X is started, brightness is always OK. Still happens with kernel 2.6.38rc5, and with xorg-edgers PPA enabled, FWIW. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New => Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/686216 Title: Brightness is all the way down at login screen on HP Pavilion dm4 ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 408651] Re: contains conflicting compose definitions
Thank you, Bryce! In my opinion you have summarized the problem right. I cannot check /etc/default/console-setup and setxkbmap -print, because I have changed my computer. I think I have found out why there is a difference between 2a and 2b. I suppose, the reason for a difference between 2a and 2b may be that different input methods are set for the different user accounts. The user account where I got 2a was configured to use scim-bridge, and 2b was configured with the default input method. Having this information, can you reproduce 2b? Maybe you will find it helpful to read how I solved this problem for myself. I just edited the compose key definitions. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 555573] Re: [g41] GPU hung: Failed to submit batchbuffer: Input/output error
Problems with logging into Ubuntu Linux overnight When coming in the morning and waking up my monitor I see: “Fatal server error. Failed to submit batchbuffer”. Requires to reboot computer! Appears to be a known problem in Linux community. Not resolved yet for Ubuntu distro (10.04 LTS). To my mind, it happens when display/video card goes to sleep (30min set in Power Management application) and video card is still getting data from the screensaver. Not any screensaver causes the problem, but only OpenGLText so far. I think, this particular saver uses hardware graphic accelerator while other OpenGL images do not. So, to fix this either do not use OpenGLText screensaver neither use any other that may work with h/w accelerator or never put display asleep in the Power Management. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/73 Title: [g41] GPU hung: Failed to submit batchbuffer: Input/output error ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 389519] Re: Cursor can move off-screen when dual-monitors do not form rectangular area
Hi, I've created a program called `xcursorclamp' which works around this issue by automatically calculating which regions of the virtual screen are invisible and creating undecorated windows that cover these regions. Whenever the mouse cursor hits such a window, the program will clamp the cursor to the nearest visible region. It will adjust automatically when the invisible regions change as a result of the user changing the X monitor configuration while the program was running. I was seeing a flash of the entire screen which was quite annoying. It might be releated to the vsync blanking issues Dave Airle was chasing down in DRM/MESA/Radeon drivers. Will do, but with the latest updates, the screen isn't getting corrupted anymore on re-size, but it *is* getting corrupted when I use an xterm to ssh into another server and run emacs inside a 'screen' session. The screen fails to update, or blanks lines or characters randomly. Doing a Ctrl-L to force a refresh fixes it for a second, but the problem comes back. I'll send more details tonight when I get a chance. Bryce> Also, there have been several other xterm/corruption bug Bryce> reports lately (see also bug #713440 and bug #717114). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 721453] [NEW] nvidia-settings should depend on pkg-config and python-gtk
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nvidia-settings nvidia-settings uses pkg-config and python-gtk2 to read/write xorg.conf. If they are not installed, nvidia-settings will work mostly fine (you can choose new resolutions, configure dual screen, etc and apply changes) but when you try to save your configuration, it will either not write anything, or write a corrupt xorg.conf. This is mostly noticed on Kubuntu because python-gtk2 is not needed on Kubuntu, and pkg-config will only be installed by developers. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 481669] Re: Stellarium crashes on startup (ATI Radeon graphics card)
Thanks Medor, this solved my problems as well! - First added the x-updates repo, downloaded some packages via the Update Manager (about 1MB). Didn't solve the problem. - Next, added the xorg-edgers repo, downloaded more packages (about 16 MB), problem solved. I think it is possibe to only use the xorg-edgers repo, but please correct me if I'm mistaken. These are the newest X.org packages, the other repo contains slightly older but more stable packages. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 721471] [NEW] evdev is not compatible to QT-applications when using tablets
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev Hello, evdev has the problem that it is not compatible to QT-Applications, I have tested this with a self-programmed software. Tested this in kubuntu 11.04 daily build (2011-02-18). I think QT-Applications like Krita, ... doesn't work, too (based on previous experience) evdev is not compatible to the QTabletEvent from QT, see here: http://doc.qt.nokia.com/4.7/qtabletevent.html See here, too, there is described that it works with WIZARDPEN-driver in ubuntu 9.10 but doesn't work in 10.10: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1597558 9.10 config works (with WIZARDPEN) with setting device name to "stylus" in 9.10 with that line: stylus in hal-config of wizardpen I'm using the wacom driver for my Genius G-Pen F610 tablet. This work's fine. But there are other tablets have perhaps a need for the evdev driver - I don't know. With kubuntu 11.04 daily-build (2011-02-18) now my tablet works fine in GTK-applications (in (k)ubuntu 10.10 evdev doesn't work fine - see ubuntuforums link (click event when only moveing the stylus)). How long it does until the much tablet drivers: wizardpen, aiptek, evdev and wacom are going into one driver (a.e. the wacom driver)? It clould be that X11 could be replaced by Wayland, that you have heared - I think. I dont't know if this too much of work (making evdev working with QT), if X11 will replaced to Wayland or the much tablet drivers going into one. As per my last comment, I *think* this might have been a transitory issue. In any case, we've uploaded new -ati bits today with the new 6.14.0 driver, so the bug could use re-testing at this point. I'll close the report out at this point, but feel free to reopen if the issue reoccurs. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Status: New => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/712212 Title: Natty USB Live install failed, Xorg message flashed on screen ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 720303] Re: system flickrs from the begning
Hi, just now we've uploaded the new -ati 6.14.0 as well as a switch of defaults from the r600 to the r600g driver. The r600g is a reimplementation of the driver using the Gallium framework, which particularly affects 3D behavior. I don't know whether this is a fix for your bug, but it would be worth retesting at this point. It will probably take some hours before the packages are built and distributed to mirrors, so could you plan tomorrow (Feb 19th) to update to latest Natty and retest your bug? If it does still occur, please upload your /var/log/Xorg.0.log from reproducing the issue, since this will now have the r600g debug log messages in it. Thanks ahead of time. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/720303 Title: system flickrs from the begning ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hi, just now we've uploaded the new -ati 6.14.0 as well as a switch of defaults from the r600 to the r600g driver. Hi, just now we've uploaded the new -ati 6.14.0 as well as a switch of defaults from the r600 to the r600g driver. The r600g is a reimplementation of the driver using the Gallium framework, which particularly affects 3D behavior. It will probably take some hours before the packages are built and distributed to mirrors, so could you plan tomorrow (Feb 19th) to update to latest Natty and retest your bug? Fwiw, we have some other reports of terminal-related corruption although the other reports seem distinct from this one so I don't think they're dupes. However in at least a couple of those cases the kernel seems suspect, so testing against 2.6.37 seems to be a prudent first step in isolating these bugs. If it does still occur, please upload your /var/log/Xorg.0.log from reproducing the issue, since this will now have the r600g debug log messages in it. Here is a kernel with a DEBUG patch added (note this is not a fix, just a mechanism to confirm the root cause). Could you affected please test out these kernels (they should work on Maverick too) and report back here. The kernels are at the URL below: http://people.canonical.com/~apw/lp714719-natty/ After booting this, please do whatever you do to reproduce the freeze (if you can), then ssh into the box and collect the output of 'dmesg > dmesg.txt' and post it here. If you can't reproduce the crash within say a day or so, report that back here too. If it happens that you haven't seen a freeze at all for a few days (esp. if you haven't seen it after doing a system update), then it may have been solved via a mystery kernel fix. In that case please note so here and the bug report can be set to 'Fix Released'. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/721377 Title: [i915gm] GPU lockup 28441d44 (ESR: 0x0001 IPEHR: 0x7f9c000f) ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hi Matt - I've forwarded this bug upstream to http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34461 - please subscribe yourself to this bug, in case they need further information or wish you to test something. Thanks ahead of time! This freeze looks a lot like the freeze you had on maverick... same situation, basically the same gpu dump, etc. We thought it had gotten fixed that time. Makes me wonder if a fix got reverted or regressed in some fashion. Or else could be just that the bug has been lurking under the surface all this time. I think we have enough gpu dumps from you on this issue to go on; they all look really similar. So no need to file more, but do share any ideas or insights, and keep an eye on the upstream bug for patches to test. This is almost certainly a kernel bug, so I anticipate we may get some kernel patch to test again. We have directions for building the kernel (which I bet you're already familiar with) at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Kernel/Compile. If you can patch and build the kernel directly, that'll give us a faster turnaround on this issue. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New => Triaged ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/716739 Title: [i965gm] GPU lockup cd4b7311 ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Meanwhile, I'll bump it over to the kernel since these are almost always kernel drm bugs. ** Package changed: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) => linux (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/462674 Title: [i945gme] GPU hang on 945GME ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 721543] [NEW] Mouse button click generates extra motionnotify
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Release: Ubuntu 10.10 xorg: Installed: 1:7.5+6ubuntu3 Candidate: 1:7.5+6ubuntu3 xserver-xorg-input-mouse: Installed: 1:1.5.0-2build1 Candidate: 1:1.5.0-2build1 Expected behaviour: Right clicking object brings up context menu allowing me to chose what to do. Actual behaviour: Right clicking objects instantly selects the first available menu alternative, as if I had pressed right button, held it down, moved it to said alternative and then released. Note: Same applies for left mouse button, it just doesn't matter as much in most applications. Details: When clicking either mouse button, an extra motionnotify event is inserted between the buttonpress event and the buttonrelease event. This causes right click menus in some applications (gnome termina, chrome, and several others) to automatically launch the top alternative. For instance, a single right click inside a gnome terminal automatically creates another terminal window, so quickly that the context menu doesn't even have time to appear. I also dual boot an up to date Arch Linux installation, and this behaviour does not exist there. That particular installation runs X version 1.9.4, Ubuntu 10.10 seems to run 1.9.0. Output from xev whenever click a mouse button: ButtonRelease event, serial 37, synthetic NO, window 0x4a2, root 0x291, subw 0x0, time 2876456, (164,178), root:(167,233), state 0x110, button 1, same_screen YES MotionNotify event, serial 37, synthetic NO, window 0x4a2, root 0x291, subw 0x0, time 2876808, (164,178), root:(167,233), state 0x10, is_hint 0, same_screen YES ButtonPress event, serial 37, synthetic NO, window 0x4a2, root 0x291, subw 0x0, time 2876858, (164,178), root:(167,233), state 0x10, button 3, same_screen YES Also, some mice work, some don't. This happens on an a4Tech X-718F laser mouse. My Microsoft Explorer Mini mouse works allright. Still, since the issue doesn't exist with either mouse in Arch, using newer xorg, i don't really think it's a hardware issue.
