[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 714829] Re: Xorg segfaults during LiveCD installation using preseed file
Not sure how I associated with 2.5.6 with 1/17. But 2.5.9 (rev 380) on 1/14 is the better match. I've prepared a ubiquity package with Cyrus Lien change from rev 380 reverted. Robert's testing indicates this seems to eliminate the problem. I seem to be unable to reproduce the original bug on my 945 mini after multiple tries, so can't confirm the fix. https://launchpad.net/~bryce/+archive/durian But I'm hoping Daniel can use my package to confirm reverting the patch fixes the error. If it does make the issue go away, I'm not sure it can be classified as a true fix, since it'll revert the fix for bug #693300 but at least that's just a cosmetic issue that I guess the Ubiquity guys can figure out a better fix for. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/714829 Title: Xorg segfaults during LiveCD installation using preseed file ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 714829] Re: Xorg segfaults during LiveCD installation using preseed file
This should be reproducable on pretty much any atom netbook with a 945 from what I can see, just boot a natty daily livecd and let it sit on the welcome screen for a few minutes. You can watch /var/log/Xorg.0.log and the bo map errors will start up before it eventually crashes. I think I have narrowed it down to this change in ubiquity: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu- branches/ubuntu/natty/ubiquity/natty/revision/380#src/panel/panel.c reverting that change with the attached patch fixes the problem here but it could use more testing. ** Patch added: "lp714829-ubiquity.patch" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/714829/+attachment/1869592/+files/lp714829-ubiquity.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/714829 Title: Xorg segfaults during LiveCD installation using preseed file ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 714829] Re: Xorg segfaults during LiveCD installation using preseed file
This crash is now happening for us pretty reliably even without our test configuration, i.e. with a "pristine" image. In my experience this doesn't happen. But admittedly I have no idea how X handles memory for applications so I might be way off the mark here. Since the problem is reproducible on the pristine image, I'll see what I can do to monitor the list of processes for runaway memory consumption, and report back here as soon as I have something. Thanks Dewey. But are you not on maverick, as per comment 15? The libdrm packages are for maverick, although they may work fine in lucid as well. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 714829] Re: Xorg segfaults during LiveCD installation using preseed file
Fwiw, we've been getting these out-of-memory-leading-to-X-crash bugs for about a month. The first reported bug I can recall was Mario's bug #705078 dated 2011-01-19. I see ubiquity 2.5.6 was uploaded on 2011-01-17. If it is an X client leaking and we think the installer is a suspect, then the ubiquity changes in that version would be worth reviewing. In addition to the ubiquity changes (which sound innocuous from the changelog entries), it also incuded updates to grub-installer 1.57ubuntu2, netcfg 1.57ubuntu3, partman-auto 93ubuntu3, partman-target 71ubuntu1, user-setup 1.28ubuntu12, so I guess any of those could be candidates. Is there a way we can pinpoint what X client is gobbling the memory? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/714829 Title: Xorg segfaults during LiveCD installation using preseed file ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 724342] Re: pointer mode not available with ntrig touchscreen
I'm wondering if this isn't a configuration or package inconsistency. I suggest trying a daily iso (one that contains all the new xi 2.1 stuff of course) to see if it works properly. With all our ppas we use, the install could really be in a wonky state. P.S. As an example, I downgraded from the xorg-edgers ppa which downgraded libx11 from 1.3.4 to 1.3.3. My keyboard stopped working. I had to reupgrade to the xorg-edgers version of libx11 for it to work again. I still have no idea why. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/724342 Title: pointer mode not available with ntrig touchscreen ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Unfortunately, the package installation error message that you have received is actually a failure with lzma and a generic one at that. The following steps may help resolve the issue. Please execute the following command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal: sudo apt-get clean Then try performing the update again as this may resolve your issue. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 712109] Re: Assert failure in hook for xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
This one looks fairly specific to the nouveau hook to me. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 724342] Re: pointer mode not available with ntrig touchscreen
It would be very helpful to be able to replay events from an affected device on a different computer. This is possible using utouch-evemu. Please do the following: 1. $ sudo apt-get install utouch-evemu-tools 2. Determine the /dev/input/event* node for your device 3. Switch to a virtual terminal (VT) by pressing ctrl-alt-f1 or running $ sudo chvt 1 4. log in to the VT 5. $ sudo evemu-describe (insert event node here) > device.prop 6. $ sudo evemu-record (insert event node here) > device.record 7. Swipe a few times on the trackpad 8. Wait for evemu-record to finish 9. Switch back to X by pressing ctrl-alt-f7 or running $ sudo chvt 7 (If that doesn't work, try f8 or f9 or chvt 8 or chvt 9) evemu-record will end when no activity has occurred for about 10 seconds. So after starting the recording, begin swiping within a few seconds. Then wait until the process finishes. Attach the device.prop and device.record files to this bug. Check to be sure they Thanks! ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) Status: New => In Progress ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Chase Douglas (chasedouglas) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/724342 Title: pointer mode not available with ntrig touchscreen ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
