Same issue on my laptop. And it's of the kind which does harm to one's hardware. It may overheat the laptop if one doesn't notice or know how to stop the crazy syndaemon. Also, I don't quite understand what this daemon does in my system. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 747246] Re: amdcccle crashed with SIGSEGV in QWidget::ungrabGesture()
I've got two monitors, and on restart Natty generally resets me to one monitor. I used to go into the Catalyst Control Center and reset my two- monitor setup there (which would then be reset to one monitor on next restart). This last time I restarted, the Monitors control panel opened automatically (never done that before). I used it instead of amdcccle to activate my second monitor, rearrange the two monitors' positions, and apply changes. Monitor setup was correct, but amdcccle crashed immediately. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/747246 Title: amdcccle crashed with SIGSEGV in QWidget::ungrabGesture() ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763173] [NEW] Xorg freeze
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Believe this belongs to Xorg. Face the same problem since Maverick (In Maverick the boot even crash at Live CD). The boot process will crash at GDM and pc will restart/reboot if I do not have an Internet connection. I do not have a wired Internet connection, just through Android phone tethering...and as such was unable to replicate the process on ethernet network. The problem was somehow resolved if I installed proprietary AMD driver (fglgx)...however since it wasn't stable as it was on Maverick I didn't have it install. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763130] Re: X hangs at startup (segfault in fglrx?) after Natty beta upgrade
Worked around problem by purging all 'fglrx' packages, then using updatedb/locate to find all files on the filesystem containing the string "fglrx", checking to see which of them were actually owned by packages with: for filename in $(locate fglrx); do dpkg-query -S $filename; done and renaming out every file that wasn't part of a package (the only two that were were: app-install-data: /usr/share/app-install/desktop/fglrx-driver.desktop x11-common: /usr/share/apport/package-hooks/source_fglrx-installer.py ) With all of those renamed out, X started OK (non-accelerated, using the 'radeon' driver) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/763130 Title: X hangs at startup (segfault in fglrx?) after Natty beta upgrade ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 577340] i2c_algo_bit
I am still worrying about i2c_algo_bit. I've deleted it, (made a copy in case of emergency) (sudo rm /lib/modules/'uname -r'/kernel/drivers/i2c/algos/i2c-algo-bit.ko) Made a reboot, (rebooted, compiz didn't work, so [altgr+printscreen+k], chose ubuntu classic and logged in) then I tried suspending and resuming, and it worked! no other thing has been changed on my system, only this. So, if we somehow manage to kill this module on suspend, and we can reload it after resume, the problem is almost solved then. Try the same Gene, if it works for u 2, then we know which module is to go on with! 2011/4/16 gene <577...@bugs.launchpad.net> > Karesz, don't worry about i2c_algo_bit In Mark's setup it is also built in. > I is it when attempt to rmmoding it : > FATAL: Module i2c_algo_bit is built in > -- > > -- > You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber > of the bug. > https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/577340 > > Title: > [RC410] Xpress 200M hangs when resuming from suspend with DRI, with or > without KMS > > To unsubscribe from this bug, go to: > > https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/577340/+subscribe > -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/577340 Title: [RC410] Xpress 200M hangs when resuming from suspend with DRI, with or without KMS ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763101] [NEW] Only standard (low) resolution on ati-driver
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg In natty beta 2, when using my AMD/ATI Radeon HD 4670 with the open source driver, I only get choices of resolutions up to 1024x768, not the desired 1280x1024, which my monitor runs. This is from a clean installation, using the VGA plug (my monitor is an old LCD, VGA only) Expected behavior: Running at monitors max supported resolution (1280x1024) What happened: Ubuntu runs with 1024x768 (and a bit of random flickering, but this is probably another bug) It could also be a problem with the monitor not reporting correctly through the legacy plug (VGA). In both Windows and when using the fglrx driver, I can access resolutions up to 1600x1200, even though my monitor does not support these. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup
It's not clear to me what the status of this bug is right now, but for anyone experiencing the issue and/or still working on it, I thought I would add some details that might be useful. I'm running Ubuntu Lucid Lynx on an eMachines T2824. kernel = 2.6.32-31-generic graphics = Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 01) I have the lucid-proposed repository enabled with all updates as of today applied. No special PPAs or other software sources are enabled. Machine will reliably lock up with zebra-stripes/flashing/non- recoverable symptoms as described by other users but can ssh in and usually will be given the option to revert to a console on the affected machine. I have found that if I disable the screensaver, screen effects, and power management, the machine will run for a very long time without problems (days to weeks), but I do not use this machine for anything graphic-intensive. Since it seems like the precise cause of this issue is not well understood, the one piece of information I wanted to point out for developers is that I found if I set the Appearance Preferences to use Clearlooks, this same machine will reliably lock up fairly quickly (usually within the first 60 minutes after login). On reverting to Ambiance, this behavior stopped. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but it seems reproducible and might be helpful in identifying the exact trigger. Trying to use various screensavers (especially OpenGL-based ones) will also reliably cause a crash. If there's anything I can do to help resolve this issue, I am happy to do so. This note is mainly for other people who are experiencing the issue and want a workaround that doesn't involve installing non-standard packages. Also: Anyone who has their screensaver stuck on a "bad" one and can't change it back, see the instructions at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=651868 to use gconf-editor to change it to blank only. From there, you can open the screensaver settings and disable it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541492 Title: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763005] [NEW] Fglrx with Compiz's "Sync to Vblank" makes Unity/Compiz plugins to crawl
Public bug reported: Package: fglrx Version: 2:8.840-0ubuntu2 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Juniper [Radeon HD 5700 Series] I have ATI's 5770 with fglrx. Having "Sync to Vblank" on makes Unity and many Compiz features (Enhanced Zoom, Scale etc.) really slow. Turning "Sync to Vblank" off has a huge effect on desktop, responsiveness is much, much better. Turning "tearing" off/on from amdccle doesn't seem to have any effect on responsiveness. In Maverick "Sync to Vblank" was off by default, in Natty it's on. This will probably have a huge impact on many fglrx users. ** Affects: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/763005 Title: Fglrx with Compiz's "Sync to Vblank" makes Unity/Compiz plugins to crawl ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763001] [NEW] package fglrx (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
Public bug reported: When I downloaded a video driver from ATI.com, trying to get a java game working, the driver made the re-drawing of windows and scrolling very very slow. I ran the recovery mode, that got my X fixed. But when i tried to install the fglrx proprietary driver in the Hardware Drivers window, it said that the package was broken. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 762922] [NEW] Corrupted screen at "Unlocking the disk" phase on an encrypted LVM when using nouveau
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau I'm using Maverick and Natty, both installed using the default LVM encrypted method on the same hardware. When prompted to "Enter Passphrase" at the "Unlock the disk" menu the screen is corrupted in Natty when using the nouveau driver. (see screenshot). This doesn't happen when using the Intel or the Radeon driver for the appropriate hardware. I've tested this on multiple computers using AMD and Intel video cards. Only nouveau fails to display the screen properly. xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: Installed: 1:0.0.16+git20110107+b795ca6e-0ubuntu7 Candidate: 1:0.0.16+git20110107+b795ca6e-0ubuntu7 Version table: *** 1:0.0.16+git20110107+b795ca6e-0ubuntu7 0 500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:0.0.16+git20110107+b795ca6e-0ubuntu7 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-8.42-generic 2.6.38.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.38-8-generic i686 Architecture: i386 CompizPlugins: [core, bailer, detection, composite, opengl, decor, imgpng, place, mousepoll, compiztoolbox, move, vpswitch, snap, gnomecompat, grid, resize, regex, animation, session, wall, expo, workarounds, ezoom, staticswitcher, fade, scale, unityshell] CompositorRunning: compiz DRM.card0.LVDS.1: status: connected enabled: enabled dpms: On modes: 1280x800 1024x768 800x600 640x480 720x400 640x400 640x350 edid-base64: AP///wAyDADMAAAQAQOAIRV4Cg8Ql1hSiCgjUFQBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBORwAuFAgFzAwIDYAS88QAAAZORwAuFAgFzAwIDYAS88Q/gBYVTIzNQAxNTRXMDEK/gAfLTpFZYyr/wEBCiAgAHc= DRM.card0.VGA.1: status: disconnected enabled: disabled dpms: Off modes: edid-base64: Date: Sat Apr 16 13:02:31 2011 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: natty DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: bcmwl, 5.100.82.38+bdcom, 2.6.38-8-generic, i686: installed GraphicsCard: nVidia Corporation G84 [GeForce 8600M GT] [10de:0407] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Dell Device [1028:01f1] InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.04 "Natty Narwhal" - Beta i386 (20110407) MachineType: Dell Inc. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 762925] [NEW] Impossible to enable Desktop Effects
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Using Kubuntu 11.04 beta2. In systemsettings, I go in "Desktop effects", check the "Enable destop effects" option and Apply. That produces an error message that says it's not possible to enable Desktop effects, and that I should check my xorg config. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 577340] configs comparison and more
Hello Karesz and Mark, I built the kernel 2.6.38.3 using Mark's config Here's what it produces: with KMS enabled 1) resumes from suspend OK 2) fb (framebuffer) is weird. The font looks nice and fine, however no proper splash when booting w3m-img displays blurry images in the console 3) it does not have 3d acceleration: no compiz, no stellarium is slow "compiz --replace&" produces compiz (core) - Fatal: Software rendering detected. compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0 compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0 Launching fallback window manager Moreover, The compiz-check program reports this: Gathering information about your system... Possible solutions offered were tinkering the xorg.conf file, which I tried - with no avail. So Rasterizing prevents it from full 3D. I attach the difference between the configs (the graphics &frame buffer sections), Mark's and generic. If the constants are identical, they are not shown. Mark's config has no "extra" constants in these sections. ** Attachment added: "graphics_diff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/577340/+attachment/2048656/+files/graphics_diff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/577340 Title: [RC410] Xpress 200M hangs when resuming from suspend with DRI, with or without KMS ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Public bug reported: I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 2.6.32-30-generic 64bit I was trying to remove and reinstall the ATI/AMD fglrx driver because it was not working properly (listed under System>Administration>Hardware Drivers, but unable to activate it). I used these commands, but the last one returned an error code (1). sudo apt-get purge fglrx* sudo apt-get purge xserver-xorg-video-ati xserver-xorg-video-radeon sudo apt-get purge xorg-driver-fglrx sudo apt-get install fglrx I'm a bit new to all of this, so I'm not sure which information from my console will be useful. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 762855] [NEW] Display on external monitor (vga) is black on 13" MacBook Pro 8, 1
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel The 13" MacBook Pro (8,1) has an integrated Intel 3000 video card. As of Ubuntu Natty Narwhal 64bit+mac Nightly 2011.04.16, whenever I attempt to connect an external display using the supplied VGA adapter, the external display is properly detected by vendor, resolution and refresh rate. However, the screen is black and it claims that there is no input source. I can drag windows into that region, but the display is just not showing anything. You can see this behavior clearly by disabling compiz (Ubuntu classic, no effects). When compiz is enabled, you get additional problems. As soon as the display is recognized, the primary screen goes black. The only way to restore the primary screen is to disconnect the adapter, switch to the virtual terminal and restart gdm (sudo service gdm restart). Clearly compiz is interfering with the monitor detection process.
