[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 661248] Re: Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT doesn't work with nvidia-current 260
It simply does not work with kernel 2.6.32. Affected all ubuntu systems 10.04 LTS. Changing nvidia driver does not help at all. This is clearly not an nvidia-graphics-drivers but a regression in the linux kernel or kernel options. Guys who build kernel for the ubuntu should just make a diff on 2.6.32 and find out what has been broken. Affected hardware: Asus M2N-68 (AMD on AM2) / NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT (pci-e) Acer Aspire 5920G (Intel Core 2 Duo T7300) / NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT (pci-e) some AMD 64 system / NVIDIA GeForce 7200 GS (pci-e) N86PV-GS (AMD on AM2) / NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX (pci-e) Solution I use for now: sudo apt-add-repository deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid main sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install linux-headers-2.6.32-21 sudo apt-get install linux-headers-2.6.32-21-generic sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.32-21-generic -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/661248 Title: Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT doesn't work with nvidia-current 260 ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I think I found the reason for the bug, however I don't have a satisfactory solution. It seems that when removing / renaming the file '.Xmodmap' (which is located in the user's home directory) so that gnome doesn't find it anymore when logging in, gnome-settings-daemon gets started correctly. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 772207] Re: version 173.14.30 is buggy for GeForce FX 5200

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 771716] Re: middle click emulation not working
Using a Kensington Orbit Trackball here and don't want to hack my xorg.conf. It's not a new user thing to do, and just because everyone here is assumed (rightly, I hope) to be competent enough to do so does not mean that everyone using ubuntu will be able to. I'm not seeing why having this enabled by default is bad...why wouldn't a user want this? It's not like one is going to continually accidentally hit both buttons at once, or even occasionally. I never have. Having a GUI to configure this (as part of gnome-mouse-properties as someone else suggested) would be acceptable. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/771716 Title: middle click emulation not working ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 669253] Re: Nvidia proprietary driver unable to initialize
apport information ** Tags added: natty ubuntu ** Description changed: I installed a fresh Ubuntu 10.10 and installed the proprietary driver (nvidia-current) suggested by the system. Upon reboot it fails while starting GDM, leaving me with a blinking cursor in tty7. I'm able to jump to tty1 and log in. The cause is that installing said driver (naturally) changes the driver in xorg.conf to nvidia, as should. But since this module fails, X fails and GDM fails. [22.943] Fatal server error: [22.943] no screens found To patch it up I simply use Intel as a fall back driver on the first 'device' in the xorg.conf. Doing so I'm able to start X and GDM. I've tried installing both Ubuntu's and Nvidia's own drivers (256 and 260). I've reproduced this on two fresh installs of 10.10 on the same machine, and many times over on the latest install. --- .proc.driver.nvidia.version: NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 260.19.06 Mon Sep 13 04:29:19 PDT 2010 GCC version: gcc version 4.4.5 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.4.4-14ubuntu5) Architecture: amd64 DRM.card0.LVDS.1: status: connected enabled: enabled dpms: On modes: 1366x768 edid-base64: AP///wAiZLYE+mUAABwUAQOAGw94CmhFl1pSjCcZUFQBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBFhxWeFAAJjAwQmgADpYQAAAZ/gAA/ABIU0QxMjFQSFcxCiAgEAAKICAgICAgICAgICAgANk= DRM.card0.VGA.1: status: disconnected enabled: disabled dpms: On modes: edid-base64: DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 DkmsStatus: virtualbox-ose, 3.2.8, 2.6.35-22-generic, x86_64: installed nvidia-current, 260.19.06, 2.6.35-22-generic, x86_64: installed bcmwl, 5.60.48.36+bdcom, 2.6.35-22-generic, x86_64: installed InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat - Release amd64 (20101007) MachineType: ASUSTeK Computer INC. 1215N NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia wl Package: nvidia-graphics-drivers (not installed) ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.35-22-generic root=UUID=120b1e0c-cb3d-4f03-aec6-ec16b65b0fb4 ro quiet splash ProcEnviron: LANG=en_DK.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-22.35-generic 2.6.35.4 Tags: maverick maverick possible-manual-nvidia-install Uname: Linux 2.6.35-22-generic x86_64 UserGroups: adm admin cdrom dialout lpadmin plugdev sambashare dmi.bios.date: 09/07/2010 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: 0503 dmi.board.asset.tag: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.board.name: 1215N dmi.board.vendor: ASUSTeK Computer INC. dmi.board.version: x.xx dmi.chassis.asset.tag: 0x dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: ASUSTeK Computer INC. dmi.chassis.version: x.x dmi.modalias:
