[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 764195] Re: laptop screen blacklight brightness always at 100% (even on battery), can't be lowered
Unfortunately none of the above worked for me. I have been able to use the intel drivers for integrate graphics only by using the script from comment #7 http://piotr.gabryjeluk.pl/dev:ubuntu-11-04-natty-on-sony- vaio-sz640 This was necessary because nvidia drivers presence apparently breaks the 3d support from the intel. Also, when using the nvidia card I the 'additional drivers' kept insisting that the nvidia driver was installed, but not in use. I thought I might be using nouveau by accident, but I've removed it and still it was denying the use of the proprietary driver (though compiz support was there) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/764195 Title: laptop screen blacklight brightness always at 100% (even on battery), can't be lowered ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745839] Re: [Xpress 200M] compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in pthread_mutex_lock() due to compiz loading on rez texture size
This issue has an interesting symptom on my Radeon X300SE. Compiz appears to be starting normally, but just as it finishes the screen turns into a jumbled mess of my desktop wallpaper. More interesting is if I enable Enhanced Zoom Desktop and zoom in or out, the screen alternates between that jumbled mess and the wallpaper itself - not zoomed, and with nothing else present (no windows, panels etc), but also not distorted at all. Trying to take a screenshot crashes the X server so I've attached a photo instead. The system still works just fine; I can even grab windows and move them around with the still-visible cursor (which still changes when over a text field, etc) - I just can't see them, nor anything other than this jumbled mess (or the intact wallpaper if I try to zoom). It also displays a fairly self-explanatory error message in the terminal: r300: Implementation error: Render targets are too big in r300_set_framebuffer_state, refusing to bind framebuffer state! I wonder if a possible workaround is to not draw the root window, but draw one fake root window for each display (or each 2048x2048 region of the display area), copying from the real one or just displaying the desktop wallpaper on it, and not allow any window to be larger than that size? It seems like only the root window is likely to ever get that big in most setups, and there's not really much reason I know of not to split it into multiple windows, which would avoid creating such large textures. (A better idea of course is to split windows into multiple textures, but that requires xrandr 1.4.) Anyway I just wanted to note that odd symptom and the error message in case anyone else had been asking about it. ** Attachment added: Photo of corrupted wallpaper https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/745839/+attachment/2126637/+files/IMG_20110513_015325.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/745839 Title: [Xpress 200M] compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in pthread_mutex_lock() due to compiz loading on rez texture size ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 725233] Re: Alps touchpad improperly detect as PS2 Generic Mouse. No scroll function at all
Actually the problem has become worse for me in Natty, as the trackpad which worked under in Maverick (at least scrolling did and pasting using simultaneously clicking both mouse buttons), while it doesn't anymore in Natty. I also have an ALPS trackpad and it is also detected as such in Natty: xinput --list ⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2[master pointer (3)] ⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointerid=4[slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint id=13 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ PS/2 Mouseid=12 [slave pointer (2)] However, as can be seen in the above output, it is also detected as PS/2 Mouse and this takes precedence, apparently. I tested which driver was used by xinput --set-prop 'PS/2 Mouse' 'Device Enabled' 0 which disables the trackpad, while the equivalent for the AlpsPS/2 doesn't do anything. The following shows that the PS/2 Mouse driver is loaded first: dmesg | grep 'PS/2' [1.541008] i8042: PNP: PS/2 Controller [PNP0303:KBC,PNP0f13:MOUE] at 0x60,0x64 irq 1,12 [1.550441] mousedev: PS/2 mouse device common for all mice [ 13.646919] input: PS/2 Mouse as /devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input6 [ 13.665067] input: AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint as /devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input8 Does the original bug reporter also see the same output as I did, or is mine a different bug? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/725233 Title: Alps touchpad improperly detect as PS2 Generic Mouse. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 240738] Re: syndaemon sometimes fails to disable the touchpad
In the meantime i also spent some time on analysing, and found out, that Option SHMConfig On (not true) solved the issue of not beeing able to adjust fingerHigh/fingerLow with synclient for me. The sensitivity settings one can make in the kde-gui-touchpad are still not useful and when the notebook heats up, one might have to change sensitivity again. The SHMConfig flag and some related settings have been deactivated by the update process, according to the comments inserted in xorg.conf due to HAL things. ...so it's now just snd-hda-intel (mic) that forces me to use Windows. Zitat von Jonas Petersson 240...@bugs.launchpad.net: @itismike Well, it might be sort of related. I'm pretty sure it worked when I booted from the live CD (as did the screen backlight keys, but I'm not sure it was using nvidia at the time), so something is different from that state and it may well be that the difference is the SHMConfig flag. If so, it makes fair sense that without SHMConfig the syndaemon will be unable to adjust the touchpad. -- You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of a duplicate bug (577764). https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/240738 Title: syndaemon sometimes fails to disable the touchpad Status in âxserver-xorg-input-synapticsâ package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics syndaemon does not always disable the touchpad when a key is pressed. Steps to reproduce: * Turn on SHMConfig in /etc/X11/xorg.conf and restart X. * $ killall syndaemon * $ syndaemon -i 3 -k -t * Run another application such as gedit and press a single key (not a modifier key) while watching the syndaemon window. It should print 'Disable', wait 3 seconds, and then 'Enable'. Most of the time this works as expected, but a small percentage of the time nothing new is displayed in the syndaemon window (the gedit window displays the key as expected). The timing seems important; if the key is pressed between 1 and 3 seconds after syndaemon displays 'Enable' then the key is more likely to be missed by syndaemon. This problem sounds minor but has been a major source of aggravation while typing on my laptop because a few times a day I find myself typing in another part of the document or in a different application altogether. Depending on the application which is incorrectly receiving the key presses, the consequences could be serious. This is on Ubuntu 8.04 and xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 0.14.7~git20070706-mactel1, but I believe this problem has existed for many months. The hardware is an Apple MacBook 2nd generation. You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have recently upgraded from Ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04. Now whenever I try to play a movie on either VLC or Totem my system crashes and I am logged out. This usually happens when I try to adjust the volume or if I l try to move the movie on through the time-line. It also happens when I leave the application alone and just let it play. The screen goes to black but I don't have time to read what is on it and I cannot take a print screen. I have seen suggestions telling me to backup my data and do a clean install but I really don't want to do that. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 769911] Re: System freeze after login in 11.04
Hi all, I have the same problem with a RadeonHD graphics card (ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series). System information: - Natty (Ubuntu 11.04) with Unity - clean install - no proprietary graphics drivers installed - added medibuntu packages to software sources (not sure if this is relevant) I'll try to describe my case as exactly as possible: As often as 2-3 out of 5 times, one of the following happens after logging in: 1) Natty just freezes on the splash screen. In this case, if I have the sound turned on, I can usually hear Skype connecting (not always), but I don't see anything. I can move my mouse pointer. 2) Natty freezes on the splash screen, which then goes black, comes back, goes black again, ... and a) finally stays black or b) shows my desktop, but with distorted graphics, mostly no top panel. This case is rare. In all cases except for 2b, hard drive activity stops after a while. While the screen is frozen (splash screen or black) - Ctrl+F2, ... , Ctrl+F8 doesn't get me anywhere. - Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't do anything either. It has taken me up to 5 or 8 consecutive tries until the system boots correctly. After that, everything works as usual. Waking up from hibernation usually works fine, too. Let me know if I can do anything to help narrowing down the problem or if you need more information on my system. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/769911 Title: System freeze after login in 11.04 ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
