[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 782929] [NEW] system-keyboard-layout cannot be chanced

2011-05-15 Thread Koen Schoute
Public bug reported:

hello.
i recently switched to the dvorak keyboard-layout

but, the virtual terminals AND the login screen are still using qwerty.
as a result, if i need to drop back on the console, i need to use qwerty,

i did already a lot of googling, but the advice seems outdated. i have already
tried:
- using the keyboard-settings GUI
- sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup
- sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-tools
- sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

i am currently running ubuntu 11.04 BETA

EDIT1
sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-data
does the trick, but it won't survive a reboot.

--

converted question to bug report, bug report description:

problem:
if you chose a different keyboard layout after installation. it wil only affect
the GUI components. a virtual terminal(cntrl+f1) will still use the old layout.

as a result, dropping back to a console will be impossible because that
is still using the old keyboard-layout.

Steps to reproduce:
1. install ubuntu using qwerty.
2. after installation, chance the keyboard layout to something like dvorak.
(try this with the GUI as wel with the CLI)
3. drop to console, try to login

** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-keyboard (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 756237] Re: wxRuby crashes with segmentation fault in pixman_image_composite32

2011-05-15 Thread David Beswick
I re-tested this in Natty and it still happened. But going off the
suggestion in that bug, I recompiled wxruby while excluding GLCanvas,
and I found the problem doesn't occur, wxruby works fine. Maybe the
issue is in Mesa as the bug suggests.

  3) What is expected to happen is that when one slides their finger in an
upward motion on the right hand side of the laptop touchpad, it does not
  spontaneously paste.

  4) What happened instead in gedit, Firefox, and OpenOffice Calc is while
scrolling upwards with the touchpad, it pastes without my fingers being
on the keyboard at all, nor have I set any hotkey or special mouse
control to do so. It just happened in this box while typing out this
bug. It happens intermittently but often enough to be highly annoying
  and buggable.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 767436] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in brw_validate_state()

2011-05-15 Thread PresuntoRJ
I have been trying to get reproduce the bug to capture dmesg,
i915_error_state and even backtraces from my gdm session, but I am not
sure what triggers it yet.

So far, it seems that it freezes when the screensaver was running for
some time BECAUSE IT HAD TURNED MY SCREEN OFF due to energy policy...

I had since disengaged the energy control option to never turn my screen
off again, so far it has not frozen my system again. I suspect that this
could be the root cause, but I am not sure how to prove it, or what
packages could be involved to further the investigation.

It also seems to happen only on my systems with intel video boards
(Mobile GM965/GL960 Lenovo Laptop and Mobile 945GME Express Asus
netbook).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 768560] Re: X wont start since the upgrade to 2.6.35-29-generic-pae

2011-05-15 Thread PresuntoRJ
I have since upgraded this machine to Natty (32) and it failed
catastrophically... so much it was not showing the grub menu due to an
impossible high resolution, not showing plymouth during boot, and
basically unusable... Hopefully I had a full back up (plus my home was
on another disk) and could wipe it clean and start over with Natty
(64)...

It is mostly working fine, though Plymouth only shows when I turn it off
(never when I turn it on), and compiz seems to have a bad memory leak
when under Unity, and I had to set Grub to show as console since the
graphic version was still not showing (probably still cause of an
impossible high resolution, but at least it shows).

None of this issues existed up to Maverick (have been using Ubuntu on
this machine since 8.04)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 760669] Re: Mouse stops working shortly after login

2011-05-15 Thread Knut Franke
I had the same issue; however, in my case I could trace the problem to
the fact that I migrated my home from another distro and a second
syndaemon instance was started from ~/.config/autostart. Did you check
there's exactly one syndaemon running?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 782855] Re: missing pixels (horizontal lines) in font rendering

2011-05-15 Thread rix
I have the very same problem, after upgrading to 11.04 from lts, on a
Toshiba Portege with the following controller:

 lspci | grep Display
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML
Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)

I don't know if this can help: when zooming in or out the problem
usually disappears (it seems to be related to font size)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 783093] [NEW] Screen is corrupted right after start

2011-05-15 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Directly after logging on to Ubuntu Natty, my screen looks like the photo
attached shows.
It is not possible to capture a screenshot of this as is disappears directly
after doing anything (clicking in the middle of the desktop is enough!)

The upper left area of the screen is perfectly alright, but the area
surrounding it starting with the notification that shows my WLAN
connection appears stretched! The panel in the top right corner is
okay, too!

I use Twinview of Nvidea graphics drivers - but this has never been an
issue in Maverick, it is new with Natty.

2011-05-15 Thread subnivean
Same with Go5700 from fresh install. Specifically, the first time I
tried to log in to Unity, I was met with only desktop wallpaper and
windows that flashed in and out of existence too fast to click. The next
time I logged in after reboot I chose 'Ubuntu (Classic)', which worked
fine, including full window transparency and shadows, but after running
the first update, I lost those features too.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 781445] Re: Xorg's HAL causes Purple screen or Black Screen on GDM startup.

2011-05-15 Thread Mike Ferreira
After talking with a lot of people since filing this and seeing that
triage was going in the strange directions with this problem... I spent
a lot of time doing more homework and research. I spent a lot of time
on IRC # grub yesterday talking with a few of their dev's and support's.
I followed their advice and... I guess we'll see where this goes:

GNU GRUB - Bugs:
bug #33318: Unknown process in grub 1.99~rc1 is setting and passing invalid
graphics data to linux kernel and Xorg.
https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/index.php?33318

You should now be able to tie this bug (LP Bug #781445) to that Upstream
Bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 758785] Re: [arrandale] Display flickers or blank on login (x86_64)

2011-05-15 Thread Stefan Stasik
Hello Bryce, so after spending the past 12 hours doing fresh installs of
Natty on my X201, thinking it was my corrupted install initially, and
then still having the issue on a freshly installed system, and pulling
my hair out trying to see what was wrong, I installed the special rolled
linux-kernel that you posted in bug #761236 ( linux-
image-2.6.39-994-generic2.6.39-994.201104200727 ) and it has
*fixed* my external display problem. I have tested it a few times,
rebooting, and coming in and out of hibernate, from internal to external
display, and it works perfect.

Thank you so very much for thinking of the connection to that other bug
that you saw.

Regards, Stefan

I'm getting this error as well. I'm trying to run a game on DOSBOX and
if I switch it to fullscreen the X hangs, leaving me the only option to
force a reboot via tty (ctrl+alt+f1), because even a kill -9 on the
dosbox process doesn't restore the screen. My machine is a netbook

2011-05-15 Thread Ferry Toth
Hmm, This problem seems to depend on the actual Intel chip:

eeepc 900: sometimes the broken fonts and other anomalies occur, restarting X
seems to make them go away.
Chip set: VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML
Express Graphics Controller (rev 04)

asus mother board 1: always broken fonts, switching to different fonts or sizes
can make the screen readable again.
Chip set: VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated
Graphics Controller (rev 02)

asus mother board2: no problems do far.
Chip set: VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82G33/G31 Express

All 3 systems running same Natty Kubuntu, 915GM and 82G33 in i386, 82945G in
