[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 803012] Re: Intel driver incorrectly renders some UI elements
I've unduplicated bug 745608. While it looked like it was a dup, I've installed xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.14.0-4ubuntu7.2 from natty- proposed and the glyph corruption described in 745608 is still present. If you read the upstream bug https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36326 (and more explicitly https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=47560 ) , it talks about the need for a kernel patch to force unfenced buffers to be aligned to powers of two. Supposedly this is due to hardware tiling bugs on old chipsets... ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #36326 http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36326 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/803012 Title: Intel driver incorrectly renders some UI elements To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/803012/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 741930] Re: [natty] nvidia binary packages for older cards - dependencies not met
I maintain approx. 200 machines for a secondary school using Linux Terminal Server. It is very common for schools to re-use old machines as LTSP clients. Our clients have old Nvidia cards and suffer from missing graphics acceleration, which is required for quite a lot of applications from the ubuntu-edu-* packages. Our pupils have a rather poor Ubuntu experience at the moment, which is a pity, as our school would like to shift the attention of young people to the open source world. If I can help speeding up the process, please tell me what to do. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/741930 Title: [natty] nvidia binary packages for older cards - dependencies not met To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nvidia-drivers-ubuntu/+bug/741930/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 813989] [NEW] X server freezes after login from GDM
Public bug reported: Hi there Please find my question on launchpad at: http://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/164868 I am not sure exactly where the bug is, but this is what happens: I am running an HP Compaq 615 laptop with a an AMD X2 Dual-Core Processor QL-64, and an ATI Raedon 3200 GPU. After a clean install, I am able to log in with no problems from the GDM with the default installed driver: either xserver-xorg-video-ati, or xserver-xorg-video-raedon (I'm not sure what the default open driver is). Problem: After a couple of logins, the screen/computer just freezes after log in, and I have to do a hard shutdown/restart. There is no mouse cursor, and the keyboard does not respond to any command, not even the Caps Lock light. The screen is most often black, but it is sometimes also the default Ubuntu dark purple. The interim fix/workaround for this problem is to install the proprietary fglrx driver. That restores functionality, albeit with poorer performance, but reverting to the open driver(s) brings back the freezing. Thank you for your patience with my first bug report. :-) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: xserver-xorg-video-radeon 1:6.14.0-0ubuntu4.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-10.46-generic 2.6.38.7 Uname: Linux 2.6.38-10-generic i686 NonfreeKernelModules: wl Architecture: i386 CompizPlugins: [core, bailer, detection, composite, opengl, compiztoolbox, decor, mousepoll, vpswitch, wall, move, gnomecompat, resize, place, session, snap, grid, regex, staticswitcher, imgpng, animation, fade, workarounds, expo, scale, unityshell] CompositorRunning: compiz CurrentDmesg: [ 24.802536] EXT4-fs (sda1): re-mounted. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 813207] Re: Display a mess in Unity 3d
Hi Christopher, you said My latest boot to 2d isn't a picnic either - can you please be more specific? Are you saying you reproduced the same issues under the 2d environment? Or that you have other, unrelated problems in 2d? Whatever it is, given that there were no significant X updates during the time period you updated, it seems doubtful this is actually an X issue. I note several compiz and unity upgrades during this period including deployment of new upstream code. Can you do some additional testing to isolate whether the bug you're seeing might actually be due to changes in unity or compiz? (E.g., try downgrading to the older unity and compiz packages and see if the issue goes away.) ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/813207 Title: Display a mess in Unity 3d To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/813207/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 814325] Re: fuzzy and corrupted display with update in natty-proposed
The 7.2 -intel update adds patch 121_fdo-28798-fix.patch. This patch significantly changes rendering behavior with 2D graphics acceleration, thus is definitely a strong suspect for this issue (although it's quite strange that it affects the console too!) To prove it is the patch's fault, downgrade to 7.1; if it no longer reproduces within ~1 day, then the patch is at fault and we should not proceed with the SRU. If it still reproduces, then we should examine dpkg.log for other possible suspects. Corruption that affects the console indicates either a kernel bug, or an X bug that somehow put the GPU into a really bad state. Booting and reproducing on an earlier kernel would rule out it being due to a kernel update. If it *is* pinpointed to the patch, would you mind also booting an oneiric livecd and see whether you can reproduce it there. I ask because we're already including this patch in oneiric and if the same issue exists there, we ought to look into it more closely. If it doesn't occur on oneiric, then presumably we can just forgo the 7.2 SRU and leave it at that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/814325 Title: fuzzy and corrupted display with update in natty-proposed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/814325/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 814384] Re: Unity won't load, nvidia won't install
It looks like the nvidia driver had failed to install, which usually happens because it failed to build with dkms. Typically in these situations, a make.log file is produced somewhere like /var/lib/dkms/*/*/build/make.log. (ubuntu-bug looks for a file there and attaches it if it exists... so I gather no such file was present in this instance.) See if you can reinstall nvidia-graphics-drivers again and get it to produce the make.log file there. If installing it via jockey doesn't produce a make.log somewhere, then try installing nvidia manually: sudo apt-get install nvidia-graphics-drivers In this case it ought to spit out error messages to the console. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/814384 Title: Unity won't load, nvidia won't install To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/814384/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
