Not fixed also with latest kernel 3.x in Oneiric.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 815322] [NEW] PowerXpress not working in oneirci

2011-07-24 Thread GodNobody
Public bug reported:

I installed fglrx the other day just to see how it works now...

Installation was smooth but I got following massage after I run:
"aticonfig --initial -f"

PowerXpress: '/usr/lib64/fglrx/switchlibGL' must not be writable by
group or others

A xorg.conf was build, but the Xserver didn't start and I stuck with a
black screen.

I also attached the Xorg.log

Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 770283] Re: [fglrx]title bar does not update on non-maximized windows

2011-07-24 Thread Thomas Antepoth
for my part this bug was remedied by using the workaround described in

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/758609

using gconf-editor and unchecking the key
"/apps/metacity/general/capture_before_unmap" after logging off and on
again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 758609] Re: natty beta Ubuntu Classic (No effects) SDL|openGL window always on top

2011-07-24 Thread Thomas Antepoth
Confirmed the fix using gconf-editor and unchecking "unmap..." on Natty.

The bleeding-in of some of the window contents into other windows when
switching desktops as well as the partial non-repaint of the title bar
as described in

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/770283 was
resolved by this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 810653] Re: Gestures won't work on HP/Compaq mini 311 touchpad

2011-07-24 Thread PeterPall
** Description changed:

- Gestures alone wouldn't be this big a problem. But syndaemon won't work
- either making typing a consistent piece of text harder than it should
- be; There already has been a bug report for this issue (Bug #527890) but
- it has been closed since it was filed against a series that is no more
- supported.
+ The touchpad of the HP Mini 311 seems to be recognized as a touchpad. It
partially seems to work, too: I can move the mouse pointer and if I tap on the
touchpad this is recognized as a click. This feature tends to be rather
hysterical, though, so for a few weeks now I am trying to tell the touchpad to
disable tap-on-click while typing. All tools that could help there I am aware
of (syndaemon, gnome-mouse-properties, syncmd) seem to know that my touchpad is
a touchpad and offer me to change configuration parameters. syncmd even shows
the altered value for the parameters afterwards if I try to read them back.
+ The problem now is that no matter what I am doing my tries to change the
sensitivity, gesture, tapping, scroll or any other part of the touchpad's
behavior seem to be completely ignored by the touchpad itself: It always stays
in the default mode (No two-finger-scroll, no edge or circular scroll, default
sensitivity and click-on-tap is enabled).
+ There already has been a bug report for this issue (Bug #527890) but it is
now closed since it was filed against a series of Ubuntu that is no more
supported.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 806256] Re: xf86PostMotionEvent resets cursor to upper left

2011-07-24 Thread SteveZalek
Same issue here...

I have a Wacom Bamboo Craft Pen & Touch running on Natty 11.04_x64 ,
xorg-server 2:1.10.1-1ubuntu1.1 with the default setup and all current
Natty updates.

Pressing any of the four pad buttons causes the cursor to jump to the
upper left corner of the screen.

Hope this helps. I'm also interested in seeing this fix backported to
Natty/11.04.

Keep up the good work!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 810647] Re: [10de:08a0] nvidia isn't loading

2011-07-24 Thread Kaj Munsterhjelm
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 810221 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/810221

I received the advice about blacklisting the xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
driver in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf , from yofel at ubuntu+1 # on
irc.freenode.org . I did this at the tty as root in the recovery kernel
, and this workaround works for my setup. Previous to the workaround I
reinstalled the nvidia-current driver , sudo apt-get install
--reinstall nvidia-current . Then I did, sudo nvidia-xconfig to set
xorg.conf . Not sure if the nvidia reinstall is absolutely necessary,
but nvidia-xconfig is advisable.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 568492] Re: Fonts corrupted on Openoffice menus and Lotus Notes 8.5 with nvidia, compiz, twinview and subpixel smoothing.

2011-07-24 Thread Alan Jackson
I run Nvidia, ubuntu 10.04, and twinview. I originally saw this under
kubuntu when I upgraded in Claws. I quickly switched to Gnome which
fixed that problem, but then I saw it in gvim - not always, but most of
the time. I haven't had any problem with OpenOffice. I fixed it by "set
ttyscroll=0" in my .vimrc, which says "do a redraw when you scroll.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 776198] Re: xorg and nvidia give very bad performance on multi display setup after update to ubuntu 11.04

2011-07-24 Thread Sven K.
I had very similar problems with unity (latest ubuntu 11.04) + nvidia
(latest driver from the official repositories). The PC is a "Foxconn
NetBox-nT330i Nettop" (Intel Atom 330 with NVIDIA ION chipset) with two
monitors (TwinView 2x1920x1080):

As soon as I open a terminal, or kile, etc. the Xorg process rises up to
100% CPU power, which slows down all processing, e.g., typing needs
about 50-500 ms after each keypress, dragging&dropping a maximized
window from one monitor to the others laggs a lot, and so on. The system
was near to be unuseable. So, I gave it a last try:

The Intel Atom 330 provides 64bit instructions, but I had a 32bit ubuntu
installed. Today, I installed ubuntu 11.04 64bit. And now all works as
it should (and as it was before with older 32 bit ubuntus)! No more
typing delay, and no more Xorg process raising to 100% CPU power. The
system responses very fast! So, at least on my PC, this problem seems to
be somehow related to 32/64 bit combinations of CPU, ubuntu and perhaps
the nvidia driver (due to 3D-requesting unity).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 747717] Re: 11.04 - opening too many windows causes new windows to render blank white

2011-07-24 Thread charles s
g9ahwkcm:

I tried what you did, it solved the windows (mostly) from coming up
white, but now the background, terminal and more windows past two appear
to come up white.

here's my stuff, spelled out:

Lenovo 3000 J series, AMD 64x2 running 32 bit

$ lspci -nn | grep VGA
00:05.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation C51G [GeForce
6100] [10de:0242] (rev a2)

here's what i've tried so far:
wget
http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/275.21/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-275.21.run
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-2.6.38-10-generic-pae
sudo sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-275.21.run -n -s --x-prefix=/usr/lib/xorg/
--kernel-source-path=/usr/src/linux-headers-`uname -r`

thinking about going down to 10.04, wonder if that will be any
different. worked ok (after some tweaking, not that i can remember
what) in 8.04.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 764195] Re: laptop screen blacklight brightness always at 100% (even on battery), can't be lowered

2011-07-24 Thread laurybueno
People, I finally found a real workaround.

using the official nvidia driver, I installed the package nvidia-bl-dkms
from the Mactel PPA (https://launchpad.net/~mactel-support/+archive/ppa)

Now I can control the backlight perfectly. Not even with the noveau
driver I could control it with this much precision.

Just to remember, I´m using the nVidia Corporation GT218 [GeForce 310M]
(rev a2) on a Sony Vaio VPCCW21FX.
