[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 815722] [NEW] Xorg won't start if no space left in /
Public bug reported: I do not have clear description of the problem.. Friend called and asked for help, X did not start and prompted for 'one time low resolution session', but it also failed, and looped. It turned out that there was a single partition, and it become 100% full. The question is: should Ubuntu be smarter in that case? When booting from Live CD, it is able to work without any disk device at all. Should it detect the inability to write some files, and show warning, instead of crashing? related question https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+question/163847 ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: enhance -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/815722 Title: Xorg won't start if no space left in / To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/815722/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745112] Re: [arrandale] desktop is messed up with external monitors (x86_64)
I am using Thinkpad X201 (natty, unity) with docking station and an external monitor attached via DP - HDMI. Note that I have packed all additional files (screenshots, logs) into tar.bz2 attached below. Since I had problems with the external monitor (occasional black monitor on boot ...), I started using Timo's kernel ( linux- image-2.6.38-10-generic_2.6.38-10.44sru1_amd64.deb ). In my setup, the laptop screen is off and all work is done via external monitor. Probably after running the screensaver, the monitor got corrupted with the several regions just shown in black. It seems that during a wakeup, external screen was run as if it is the internal laptop screen. This can be observed on attached screenshots with terminal occupying part of the screen (Screenshot1.png) or maximized ( Screenshot-terminal- fullscreen.png ). On other desktops, all maximized windows were reduced accordingly. Monitor preferences ( Screenshot-monitor-preferences.png ) seem to confirm it; xrandr and dmesg outputs are in xrandr.txt and dmesg.beforexrandr.txt, correspondingly. I managed to fix the problem by running xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto --output HDMI1 --auto xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto --output HDMI1 --off xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto --output HDMI1 --auto xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto --output HDMI1 --auto --primary As a result, I returned to my setup. If I remember correctly, LVDS1 was actually off after running all those commands and looking at 'Monitor Preferences' (Screenshot-monitor-preferences.png). Dmesg after all those commands is in dmesg.afterxrandr.txt . In addition, I have attached part of kern.log from my last boot (first 60s). If the full log is needed (~700KB), it can be downloaded via http://sysbio.ioc.ee/~markov/kern.log.full.bz2 Let me know if I should report this bug somewhere else and if you have any questions. ** Attachment added: monitor_trouble.tar.bz2 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/745112/+attachment/2230824/+files/monitor_trouble.tar.bz2 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/745112 Title: [arrandale] desktop is messed up with external monitors (x86_64) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/745112/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 640058] Re: [xorg-edgers] X server crash with intel driver when using shadow option
Hello, Since some weeks, maybe months (I can't tell you exactly because I did not put attention to it as it was not often enough) the X server still crashes and I am returned to the login screen. I was surprised yesterday because I could reproduce the problem by clicking on a link on a specific site and the X server would crash at each time. So I ran again glxinfo and again each time, X server crashes: the Xorg.log file shows it is a segmentation fault. I could generate an crash file but apport can't upload it: first because apport uses glxinfo and second because if not using glxinfo (by temporarily renaming it) it displays the following message The program crashed on an assertion failure, but the message could not be retrieved. Apport does not support reporting these crashes. with the title Problem in xserver-xorg-core, probably because as you said ubuntu-bug won't upload a bug report on an unofficial package version. Her attached you can find the Xorg log file which shows the backtrace. ** Attachment added: Xorg.0.log.old https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/640058/+attachment/2230933/+files/Xorg.0.log.old -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/640058 Title: [xorg-edgers] X server crash with intel driver when using shadow option To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/640058/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 643895] Re: nvidia propietary driver fails to load X with geforce 310M
I finally managed to solve the problem on my system, a Lenovo T410, with Nvidia NVS 3100M graphics card and Ubuntu Natty 64 bits. From the BIOS configuration, I selected as graphic device Discrete Graphics. Specifically, I could choose among three options: Integrated Graphics, Discrete Graphics and NVidia Optimus. The default value was NVidia Optimus. I also disabled the automatic OS detection. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 815978] [NEW] EDID information not read
Public bug reported: I remember when I was connecting my laptop to my TV (via VGA) using earlier Ubuntu releases, I was offered to run it using it's native resolution (1368 by 768 or something like that). Now under Oneiric, I'm only offered 800x600 and 1024x768, which is unsatisfying. Running xrandr --verbose reveals that the laptop doesn't seem to receive the EDID information from the TV. Public bug reported: Bug filed per Question #165710. The HDMI display periodically goes blank for up to 3 seconds. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 755791] Re: [RS690M] No 3d acceleration in Radeon X1200 with new Gallium r300 / 3d drivers in 11.04
This helped: - get mesa3d from ftp://ftp.freedesktop.org/pub/mesa/7.10.2/ . Build it following the instructions on http://mesa3d.org which is basically ./configure make - sudo cp mesa/lib/r300_dri.so /usr/lib/dri/ (and probably the same for radeon_dri.so ) Usual performance for my glxgears 250 fps is back, I had the same and the CPU is down to 0 (yoohoo!), but at some moment during my experiments I had 286 fps (the CPU was still at ~0!). At the moment I have no idea how to reproduce this. The experiments have involved: 1) building x86-ati-driver from the latest sources, 2) building mesa with drmProto, 3) fiddling around with Section Device at specially created /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-device.conf, 4) copying mesa/lib/* to /sr/local/lib/GL and setting in ~/.bashrc export LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH=/usr/local/lib/GL export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib/GL:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH Then some parts were left from the rep versions, and some were overwritten. What namely gave a 20% faster combination is a mystery. I'm synced to the latest Ubuntu 11.04 repositories, xorg-edgers is NOT installed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/755791 Title: [RS690M] No 3d acceleration in Radeon X1200 with new Gallium r300 / 3d drivers in 11.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/755791/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 778083] Re: Switching workspaces does not always redraw everything necessary
I've seen this corruption problem when switching workspaces since upgrading to 11.04 from 10.10. It's worst for gnome-terminals, i.e. going from Thunderbird (after reading mail or even just selecting various folders) and then switching to a workspace with at least one gnome-terminal window. Sometimes it redraws the window contents correctly, sometimes it has part or all of the overlaying Thunderbird image in the g-term contents, sometimes just the window border is corrupted, sometimes it flashes the correct window contents then redraws the previous workspace contents, etc. I have been able to make the problem go away by unchecking the auto- focus feature (System/Preferences/Windows/Select windows when the mouse moves over them). PITA but no more than selecting a blank workspace between each workspace change. What's it going to take to get the importance of this bug set to high and assigned to someone to get it fixed? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/778083 Title: Switching workspaces does not always redraw everything necessary To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/778083/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
