[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 826359] Re: unable to detect Monitor and unable to change from deault resolution
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. From what I can tell, the DFI G5M100-N motherboard uses the Intel 855GME chipset for graphics. I believe the 855GME integrated graphics should be supported by the Linux kernel in Ubuntu 11.04. Please attach the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log to this bug report. Please also run this command in a Terminal: xrandr --verbose /tmp/xrandrinfo.txt and then attach the file /tmp/xrandrinfo.txt to this bug report. When done, please change the Status of the bug back to New. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 827856] [NEW] Xorg crash with Nvidia and newer kernels
Public bug reported: I have encountered a very strange problem, which I'm not sure where to file exactly. The problem manifests on Dell notebooks (Latitude E6520 or E6510). They are using NVIDIA NVS3100m or 4200m video cards. The problem itself is that most of the time the flash plugin crashes. Not so often, the whole firefox session crashes. Sometimes the whole X session crashes. A few times, the X session also crashed while starting Libre Office Calc. Now, when it happens: it happens when using Ubuntu 10.10 or newer, or when using Ubuntu 10.04 with a newer kernel (2.6.35, or 2.6.38). It happens with any flash version, any firefox version, any NVidia drivers version (including the newest 280 one). I haven't tried different Libre Office versions, but this is not so relevant, as it doesn't happen so often. Most probably, the problem lies somewhere between the linux kernel, the X server and the NVidia driver, in some drawing operations. The system is 100% stable when using 10.04 with kernel 2.6.32 (but then I have to compile some e1000e drivers by hand, and bluetooth is not 100% working on this hardware). I am not sure what kind of data to further collect, but I will provide whatever you need in order to identify and fix the bug. I thought my problem was related to this bug, however deleting files did not fix the Function keys working as if the Fn key was pressed. I just checked and my Dell Studio 1749 actually has an option to toggle the default behavior of the F keys. Hi Fyodor, just to clarify, you say it crashes every time after wakeup. Do you mean after doing a suspend/resume that the system locks up hard (maybe the mouse pointer moves but system is unresponsive) requiring a power cycle via the power button? Or, do you see the crash notifier dialog pop up but the system doesn't actually lock up requiring being turned off and back on? Are you still reproducing the problem with current kernel and X updates in oneiric? About when did you first start noticing the problems start? Did you see it on previous ubuntu versions? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 814450] Re: [gm45] GPU lockup EIR: 0x00000010 PGTBL_ER: 0x00000003
Hi v-miheer, a few questions... First, since you reported this last month have you seen other instances of this problem? A GPU lockup typically involves the system being locked up hard - mouse pointer may move, but is totally unresponsive otherwise and you have to power cycle the machine. Did that happen? I ask because sometimes there are fake lockups, where the video driver is able to immediately recover - it trips the crash detector but your system is otherwise fine. If you do have real lockups and have seen them recently, about how often does it seem to occur - like every time right after starting up the Ubuntu Unity desktop environment, or only after some period of use, or randomly? ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/814450 Title: [gm45] GPU lockup EIR: 0x0010 PGTBL_ER: 0x0003 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/814450/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hi William, Have you had additional lockups like this one? Also, does it actually lock up (the mouse pointer might move but nothing else works, and you have to hold down the power button to restart it). I ask because sometimes there are fake gpu lockups where the system doesn't actually lock up, it just triggers the crash reporter. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/821089 Title: [i945gm] GPU lockup EIR: 0x0010 PGTBL_ER: 0x0102 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/821089/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hi Macro, have you had any further instances of this GPU lockup? If so, about how frequently does it seem to occur? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 828219] Re: Oneiric 16 August screen freezes, mouse freezes, no keyboard response
Unity-2D seems to run and run and run. The bug sure would seem to be Compiz Unity-3D trying some code that hangs solid on ATI Radeon Xpress 200. Any way to get a useful dump of that? Now another problem is CD Live, since it comes up in Unity-3D with no boot choice for Unity-2D. Plus with CD Live running in memory, when it hangs solid any evidence gets lost. Maybe I could try to log in from another pc on our net? What should I try to get? Logging in as a command line terminal, ubuntu-bug is strictly limited to Xorg running perfectly to send the report to Launchpad. Launchpad bug shooters have told me in the past that sending them the report as a file is useless. Sorry for the brief description -- I was on my way out the door and didn't have time to do a thorough response. Wanted to get the bug up while I could. You're correct, though the system never entirely freezes -- just moves extremely sluggishly. Using 'top', no single process saps it. Sometimes, top takes up 40%+, sometimes nautilus, whatever active process is happening. I haven't been able to figure out what causes it. It did happen during natty, and I believe maverick before that. I'm happy to do whatever testing I can, I'm just not entirely sure where to start or how to single out the cause. Bryce, Actually, all that really happens is that I get the crash report notification on my screen and it asks me if I want to report the issue without fail about 30 seconds after I boot up, but I get no other effects. I can run programs behind it just fine. The only thing that gets problematic is that the apport program fails when I try to report the problem most of the time and I can't seem to get rid of the crash report window, even when ending the process within system monitor. I hope some of this information helps. -Bill On 08/17/2011 01:39 PM, Bryce Harrington wrote: Hi William, Have you had additional lockups like this one? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 821258] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in intel_renderbuffer_tile_offsets()
Hi cpatrick, this looks like a mesa bug. A new mesa 7.11 was uploaded the day you filed this. I can't tell whether you had that installed at the time since this bug was filed without the usual xorg log files, however from the report it looks like you installed fresh on 8/3 and hadn't updated on the 4th when you placed the report. I'm guessing you haven't reproduced this crash since the 4th, is that correct? If so, I think we can close this as fixed. At what point of the boot sequence does it occur? Now another problem is CD Live, since it comes up in Unity-3D with no boot choice for Unity-2D. You mentioned above that Unity 2D seems to run ok; how are you getting into it if it's not a boot choice and Unity 3D freezes? Plus with CD Live running in memory, when it hangs solid any evidence gets lost. Maybe I could try to log in from another pc on our net? What should I try to get? There was a bug in glib2.0 yesterday, that might affect Aug 16th images, however it only affects upgrades so shouldn't affect Live CD boots. However, if you found that the Aug 15th image works, that would be quite interesting. Logging in as a command line terminal, ubuntu-bug is strictly limited to Xorg running perfectly to send the report to Launchpad. Launchpad bug shooters have told me in the past that sending them the report as a file is useless. We turn the handler off for the release, so this bug won't really be a problem in the release. Ah, ok that makes more sense. I think what might be going on here is two separate bugs. GPU lockup bugs generally involve the whole system locking up, however we have a known problem where the lockup handler sometimes has false-positives for some reason we haven't figured out. I think the crash popups you're seeing are these false positive type bugs. The slowdown is probably a second unrelated problem. Might not even be X causing it. As we have plenty of bug reports about the false gpu lockups, I think this bug report should focus on the slowdown issue instead; sounds like that's what you care about. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/826504 Title: [i945gm] GPU lockup EIR: 0x0010 PGTBL_ER: 0x0100 render.IPEHR: 0x0100 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/826504/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Works for me. The problem I've had is how to try to isolate the issue. There doesn't seem to be a root cause - sometimes it slows down from the start, sometimes a few minutes after I've been logged in, sometimes hours later. It *seems* to happen most when I sit down to play a video, either via an application or flash... though that might just be me thinking that, as I haven't counted to confirm anything. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 828494] [NEW] xorg driver fallback for arm is missing pvr for omap 4
Public bug reported: The patch debian/patches/111_armel-drv-fallbacks.patch was created to be able to load the arm related xorg drivers and use fbdev as a fallback. This is needed at arm platforms as usually the drivers are platform devices, without an easy way to identify if the platform contains or not a supported hardware. Currently this is lacking support for the pvr driver available at Pandaboard, so the only way to make it use the proprietary driver is by creating a xorg.file. As the change is quite simple, I'm making this as a bug.
