[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 619365] Re: Screen corruption when X starts

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 841636] [NEW] Bad 3D performances in Oneiric compared to Natty
Public bug reported: I get low frames per second using glxgears, the half of what I got with Natty and previous releases. This behaviour is common for different graphics card (tested on Nvidia 250Gts, Ati radeon 7500 and Intel Gma500) so it seems not strictly related to video drivers but probably to some opengl libs (just guessing, please correct if I'm wrong). I know that glxgears is not a good benchmark tool but usually results are the same in every Ubuntu release and now in Oneiric are really different. I looked at glxgears because I felt that compiz and unity-3d are slower than in Natty, noticeable slower :) attached two screenshots of glxgears in natty and oneiric with a nvidia250gts 1gb.. if needed I could provide for different gfx cards. (I hope it is not a real regression but a false positive, or something, because otherwise it could be really bad if oneiric is released with this issue) regards ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/841636 Title: Bad 3D performances in Oneiric compared to Natty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/841636/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 223238]
What is the status on this bug? NVIDIA acknowledged an inefficency on their end which I believe they have applied since then but according to them, fixing firefox would greatly improve performance: Thanks for reporting this. I took a look today, and it appears that Firefox is using an enormous pixmap that exceeds the GPU's maximum rendering dimensions, causing software fallbacks. While we will attempt to make it as fast as possible, performance would be greatly improved if Firefox would render using surfaces that fit within the maximum renderable dimensions. http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=152295page=1 As someone else had mentioned before scrolling on this page is very slow: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/550625?comments=all Given the comments from the NVIDIA developer I zoomed out that page in firefox hoping it would 'fit within the maximum renderable dimensions and indeed scrolling was smooth again. The NVIDIA developer most be right if it works much better by zooming out plus I can see the system load spike very high when it 'defaults to software fallbacks'. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/223238 Title: Extremely slow Ajax/Javascript/CSS performance in Firefox 3 using non- free nvidia-glx-new To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/223238/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work
I have more comments (again on Dell E6410). 1. Based on offlist suggestion I've tried to use xinput --set-prop device-corresponding-to-trackstick Device Accel Constant Deceleration number around 2 I could reduce speed of trackstick, but still find it hard to hit some targets. It looks like oversensitivity and jitter is to blame here, not speed per se. 2. Two-finger scrolling works, but suffers from the same over- sensitivity and jitter. For example, as I raise fingers after scrolling, the view sometimes jumps back. On Ubuntu CellWriter (a handwriting recognition tool) has following problem: If Xinput is deactivated it stops accepting input after finishing the first stroke. If Xinput is activated it accepts several strokes for some seconds but then locks up completely not accepting any input at all with following error: * Extended input device is generating invalid coordinates, disabled At the same time in Xorg.0.log several lines like the following appear: (WW) Serial Wacom Tablet stylus: bad data at 1 v=91 l=9 On Arch the same version of CellWriter works fine with Xinput both activated and deactivated. Xorg.0.log for both installs are attached. Note also the different versions of Xorg. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 195982] Re: Shift key (and caps lock) stop working when using VMWare
This happens for me on Maverick with Vmware Workstation 7.1.4 build-385536. Sometimes, I don't notice it's a problem (say, I'm working in the VM where the keys still work fine), I go away for a while, the screensaver activates and I find I'm unable to enter my password. I have to kill gnome-screensaver from another machine using SSH, then run setxkbmap to fix it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/195982 Title: Shift key (and caps lock) stop working when using VMWare To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/195982/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

TIM!! I FIXED THE ISSUE!! I HAD TO DO A HARD RESET ON MY COMPUTER!!! THATS IT THE ISSUE WAS FIXED THAT EASILY On 09/04/2011 06:55 PM, Timothy Mayoh wrote: Ok, this is almost certainly a problem caused by faulty hardware, as this problem does not seem to affect other computers of the same model from research I have done, and it should be possible for you to access the BIOS with the internal keyboard on any working laptop. It also appears that your touchpad input is being read as keyboard input, from the videos you uploaded, which further indicates that it is likely to be faulty. I'm very sorry, but as this bug seems to be isolated to only your particular hardware and not related to software, I will have to mark it as invalid; your best bet as to getting it fixed is to contact your manufacturer or a computer repair shop, alternatively you may be able to fix it yourself by replacing the faulty components, but it could be costly for the parts. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 841913] [NEW] Screen corruption after resuming from Suspend
Public bug reported: Since Upgrading to 11.10 Beta1, seemingly every time I bring my laptop out of Suspend I my screen corrupts. I can see a vertical swash of the screen from the upper right down to lower right. The rest is washed out. I can get rid of the issue if I log out and log in again. Additionally if I use a browser in full-screen mode the screen issue disappears. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work
Thanks to everyone who has tested the patch! One note -- when you include the dmesg output please don't just grep for alps, as some of the messages of interest don't contain that string. A few of things are becoming clear. First, there are at least a couple of different versions of the touchpads that reply to the E7 report with 73 02 64. The patch will work to varying degrees with some of them and won't work at all with the others. I've an Acer netbook that falls into the latter category, and I'll be working to find out what needs to be done with these. Second, the patch is probably failing for any machines without a trackstick. This should be fairly easy to fix. Third, not all of these touchpads have the same resolution. This accounts for at least part of the sensitivity problems being seen (with the touchpads, not with the tracksticks). I've written a quick-and-dirty program to dump the full register space from these devices. I'd appreciate if you could all run it on your machines, capture the output, and email it to me (seth dot forshee at canonical dot com). Please also include the model of your machine and the maximum ABS_X and ABS_Y values reported by your machine (a description of how to determine these is below). N.B.: this program may leave your touchpad in a non-functional state, especially if its execution is interrupted. If this happens you can try running: echo -n psmouse | sudo tee /sys/bus/serio/devices/serion/drvctl Using the sysfs path printed in the Found serio mouse at message at the top of the output. If that doesn't work you should reboot. Also note that this will take quite a while to run. A executable is available at: http://people.canonical.com/~sforshee/alps-touchpad/alps-reg-dump /alps-reg-dump And the source is available at: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/git?p=sforshee/alps-reg-dump.git;a=summary To capture the maximum ABS_X and ABS_Y values from the touchpad, you must be using my driver changes. Run sudo lsinput and identify the input device named AlpsPS/2 ALPS DualPoint TouchPad, then run sudo input-events n | grep 'ABS_[XY]', where n is the input device number. While this is running, touch on the lower-right corner of the touchpad, and tell me the maximum values you see reported. I've tested the dkms module build on 2.6.38 and 3.0 kernels, so it ought to work for anything of approximately that vintage. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 842065] [NEW] Screen corruption after resume from suspend
Public bug reported: When resuming after suspend, my entire screen is corrupted as per the attached screenshot. The corruption is static on top of the desktop i.e. I can move windows on the desktop, but the foreground corruption remains. In Natty, the same thing would occur only on the sidebar area (also after resume from suspend), and would disappear when the sidebar appeared. Hopefully all necessary info is in the attached, let me know if there is anything else required. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 815163] Re: [EEPC-1215p] touchpad does weird things after a few minutes of use
SA Omer, Actually, this bug is not in the synaptics driver, because the driver loads fine then replys: [ 493.650] SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: Read error No such device in the 'XorgLog.txt' file. My best guesses was, it's in Ubuntu Kernel, something happened(mostly misconfiguration) during compiling it. So, I'm moving this bug to the Kernel(linux) package, to get Kernel Team's Opinion. Thanks. ** Package changed: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) = linux (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/815163 Title: [EEPC-1215p] touchpad does weird things after a few minutes of use To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/815163/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Same here on a Dell Inspiron 710m with driver i915 and Linux kernel 2.6.32-33-generic. Sometimes, and for a reason that I haven't identified yet, if I open Thunderbird or Firefox I get a black screen then go back to the log in screen; I have to reboot to get rid of that malfunctioning. It happens at least once a week and started within the last 7 days (I would say). kern.log: [ 406.277038] ipw2200: Firmware error detected. Restarting.
