Patch on post 132 worked perfectly for me. Trackpad, two-finger touch for right click and two-finger scroll function as they should. It'd be nice to see some support from elantech on this, though, to get the full range of features working properly. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 854967] Re: boot to rescue mode in Oneiric
Alberto, please revert these blacklists. Blacklisting the cards in grub causes a significant regression to the user experience when NOT booting in recovery mode - systems that had a perfectly working flicker-free boot from grub to plymouth even when using the binary nvidia drivers now have a text mode boot everywhere (bug #863719). We should *NOT* regress the standard boot experience in the last weeks before release to improve the recovery mode experience. I believe a better solution here is to adjust /etc/grub.d/10_linux to always pass =text instead of =keep for recovery mode. Half the time when you're booting to recovery mode you'll get this anyway because the previous boot didn't succeed, so having grub always do this will be more consistent - and handle possible problems with the video handoff across *all* video hardware. ** Changed in: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = Triaged ** Changed in: fglrx-installer-updates (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = Triaged ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = Triaged ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-173-updates (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = Triaged ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-96 (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = Triaged ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-96-updates (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = Triaged ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = Triaged ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-updates (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/854967 Title: boot to rescue mode in Oneiric To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/854967/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 854967] Re: boot to rescue mode in Oneiric
Also, note that this issue is NOT specific to binary drivers! I can reproduce the problem on a system with an intel video card when gfxpayload=keep. The issue is that during a normal boot, plymouth handles the transition from graphics mode to text mode for the VT (plymouth show-splash / hide-splash), but when booting into recovery mode, plymouthd is never run except for certain edge cases (i.e., when cryptsetup is installed and plymouth is started from the initramfs before friendly-recovery runs). So these blacklists definitely need to be reverted, and grub definitely needs to be changed to avoid use of =keep on recovery mode. ** Also affects: grub2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: grub2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: grub2 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: grub2 (Ubuntu) Milestone: None = ubuntu-11.10 ** Changed in: grub2 (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Steve Langasek (vorlon) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/854967 Title: boot to rescue mode in Oneiric To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/854967/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 864114] [NEW] disabling fglrx from jokey leaves broken alternatives
Public bug reported: I am not sure that it's not a jokey problem, please reassign it there if it is. I was investigating smearing of the screen on oneiric beta, and enabled fglrx via jokey. It did not affect the problem (must be a compiz problem I suppose), and I disabled fglrx back via jokey. After that, programs that depend on libGL could not start anymore (compiz, unity, ...). I found that there is a number of links in /etc/alternatives, including the libGL one, that point to /usr/lib/fglrx/... while the files are not there. Apparently, the disable operation removed the package but did not restore the library alternatives. Enabling the driver again brought the system to life. ** Affects: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/864114 Title: disabling fglrx from jokey leaves broken alternatives To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/864114/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 864155] [NEW] Nonexistent VGA monitor detected on AMD A8-3850 / Asus F1A75-V PRO
Public bug reported: CPU/GPU: AMD A8-3850 w/onboard GPU (Radeon 6550D according to AMD marketing; Device 9640 according to lspci) Mainboard: Asus F1A75-V PRO Monitor (TV): Sony KDL46EX701 Ubuntu version: 11.10 Beta 2 amd64 xserver-xorg-video-ati version: 1:6.14.99~git20110811.g93fc084-0ubuntu1 My system is connected to a 1920x1080 LCD TV via an HDMI cable. No other video cable is connected. Despite this, the driver says: [19.096] (II) RADEON(0): Output VGA-0 connected [19.096] (II) RADEON(0): Output HDMI-0 connected [19.096] (II) RADEON(0): Output DisplayPort-0 disconnected [19.096] (II) RADEON(0): Using fuzzy aspect match for initial modes [19.096] (II) RADEON(0): Output VGA-0 using initial mode 1024x768 [19.096] (II) RADEON(0): Output HDMI-0 using initial mode 1024x768 By default, this results in a 1024x768 desktop being mirrored across the TV and the Unknown VGA monitor. I can change this in Displays and get a sane configuration, but that only takes effect after logging in; the login screen goes back to 1024x768. The kernel correctly detects that only the HDMI output is connected, and I get the expected full-screen 1920x1080 display if I switch to a terminal with Ctrl+Alt+F1: [7.144058] [drm] Radeon display connector VGA-1: No monitor connected or invalid EDID [7.247568] [drm] Radeon display connector HDMI-A-1: Found valid EDID [7.724031] [drm] Radeon display connector DP-1: No monitor connected or invalid EDID Launchpad bug #151790 / Freedesktop bug #18719 describes a similar problem, but I'm filing a new bug since that one is almost 3 years old and its fix seems to be tied to a specific hardware quirk in an older hardware family. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/864155 Title: Nonexistent VGA monitor detected on AMD A8-3850 / Asus F1A75-V PRO To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/864155/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 864149] Re: initrd doesn't set Fr keyboard layout anymore = couldn't open root luks at boot
This is a result of recent changes in the nvidia-graphics-drivers package; I see from your bug report that you have the binary driver enabled. When cryptsetup is installed, /usr/share/initramfs-tools/conf- hooks.d/cryptsetup sets the 'FRAMEBUFFER' option to 'y'. This causes the plymouth, framebuffer, and brltty hooks to be run, and causes /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/init-top/console_setup to be run in the initramfs... where it would *not* be by default except when the initramfs is interrupted. The oneiric nvidia packages now install an override hook that unconditionally sets FRAMEBUFFER=n in the initramfs. This fixes a legitimate bug, because letting the framebuffer module be loaded in the initramfs garbles the display (in my experience). However, it does so in a way that prevents *any* access to plymouth from within the initramfs, which is a serious regression for those using luks root partitions. We should try to find a better way to enable the FRAMEBUFFER option to enable the *correct* modules being loaded from within the initramfs, instead of disabling the FRAMEBUFFER option. ** Package changed: cryptsetup (Ubuntu) = nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged ** Also affects: initramfs-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: initramfs-tools (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: initramfs-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/864149 Title: initrd doesn't set Fr keyboard layout anymore = couldn't open root luks at boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-tools/+bug/864149/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work
Did try the dkms module on Oneiric Ozelot and an HP Mini 311. Is the first time I am actually able to type two sentences in a row without the cursor jumping somwhere I don't want it to and without a chance to argue with the machine that I didn't even get near to the touchpad all this time. Great work! ...Did encounter a (solvable) problem, though. don't know if it is my fault: After installing the package and rebooting my computer seemed to still use the shipped psmouse.ko. So I did a sudo depmod -a sudo update-initramfs -u since I thought the initramfs could still hold the old module. Didn't do any good, that. Renaming psmouse.ko to psmouse2.ko and adding a rmmod psmouse modprobe psmouse2 to /etc/rc.local did help. Don't know what went wrong. But as I said: Might be entirely my fault. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/550625 Title: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/550625/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 864149] Re: initrd doesn't set keyboard layout when nvidia drivers are installed (FRAMEBUFFER=n override)
This can be addressed without reintroducing the problem from bug #839524 with three changes: - drop the nvidia proprietary-graphics-drivers initramfs hook config. - set 'alias nouveau off' in the modprobe blacklist file, *not* 'blacklist nouveau'. (udev ignores module blacklisting by design!) - add a fallback in the framebuffer initramfs script to try to load the vesafb module if no other framebuffer has been loaded. This gives us fallback behavior equivalent to what's used post-initramfs when cryptsetup is not installed, and does not negatively impact booting when the vesa linear framebuffer is unavailable (i.e., when booting with gfxpayload=text) other than generating a warning message that vesafb can't be loaded. This will ensure the nouveau driver will not be loaded in the initramfs when nvidia drivers are installed, that a best effort is made to load the vesafb driver from the initramfs where possible, and that other functionality that keys on FRAMEBUFFER=y - keyboard map setting, brltty support, and plymouth itself - does not regress. ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu Oneiric) Assignee: (unassigned) = Alberto Milone (albertomilone) ** Changed in: initramfs-tools (Ubuntu Oneiric) Assignee: (unassigned) = Steve Langasek (vorlon) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/864149 Title: initrd doesn't set keyboard layout when nvidia drivers are installed (FRAMEBUFFER=n override) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-tools/+bug/864149/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 864149] Re: initrd doesn't set keyboard layout when nvidia drivers are installed (FRAMEBUFFER=n override)
This bug was fixed in the package initramfs-tools - 0.99ubuntu6 --- initramfs-tools (0.99ubuntu6) oneiric; urgency=low * scripts/init-top/framebuffer: fall back to vesafb if no other framebuffer is found/configured, so we can take full advantage of the grub gfxpayload handoff support. This ensures we get a clean framebuffer-based plymouth screen even when using binary video drivers.
