[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 813343] Re: nvidia drivers, second monitor covered by black
HI Axel, I know you are using a minimal xorg but I am not understanding what is the point when we are trying to get twinview working with unity. I have no issues when running with one screen, expo works, indicators work, themes work. As soon as I apply my Natty working xorg the entire desktop breaks, hence why I mention those other bugs. They might be separate bugs but they are all related to the general corruption of the unity desktop when twinview is turned on. I had none of these issues in Natty except one, I have attached a screenshot of that below. The one that says could not apply the stored config for monitors. That occurs at boot and remains until I click close. Then I am left with the broken desktop as described before and the other attachment shows the missing themes. If I log out lightdm also has missing theme yes in a similar way. There is no packages called unity-desktop, do you perhaps mean ubuntu- desktop? And yes that is installed by default and I have checked it it there. No PPA's were used in former times, this is a default install from scratch and I have tried installing it twice and checking my image consistency. No other managers were ever used. I have opened another bug for expo issue (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/854556). Thats been logged for over a month now and it's only barely been touched and marked as confirmed, not assigned. From all the issues I see, as soon as I turn on twinview, I suspect that as soon as the main issue with twinview is fixed all the other will fall in place. What still concerns me is the lack of action being done on this bug, it's still being marked as invalid for unity but confirmed for nvidia yet not assigned. We have already proven that nvidia-settings works 100% in XFCE and I have just tried installing it and it worked fine for me too. I also don't get any errors during login. Ofcourse i can't test expo but still, no errors and a working dual desktop by using nvidai settings and not my xorg.conf (which also works BTW) Due to all of these things as far as I am concerned this is a unity issue and I would really like to see some Canonical developer input on this issue urgently. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/813343 Title: nvidia drivers, second monitor covered by black To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/813343/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Dear bugbot. There are two seperate bugs. The one I was reporting is that the xserver-xorg autodetection choses nouveau for all nvidia cards (which leads to a non-functioning Ubuntu after install). The bug in xserver-xorg-video-nouveau is a different one. It is that not all models of 9400 GT work with nouveau. The first bug (i.e. this bug) is rather easy to fix (see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=480393#c1). The second bug requires a bit more knowledge. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 851612] Re: Logging out from a FUS session does not reliably return to VT7
Still no progress on finding out why this is occurring. Some speculation: - ConsoleKit is intercepting the VT switch and stopping it working. GDM uses ConsoleKit to do the VT switching but this is not easy to do in LightDM with the current architecture (it doesn't assume that CK is available, it switches before the session is started). - The X server is not correctly getting the frambuffer when the VT switch occurs - unlikely as it's not occurring with GDM, but could be a timing issue. Need some Kernel/ConsoleKit/X experience to find where what stage of the VT switch is failing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/851612 Title: Logging out from a FUS session does not reliably return to VT7 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/lightdm/+bug/851612/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 868400] Re: Synaptics touchpad stops working
I would like to add that this seems to be very much a finger detection issue. I'm having this problem on an Asus G73SW recently upgraded from Natty to Oneiric. I booted the Oneiric LiveCD to see if it was a config issue, and I still have problems, although they're a little different (the three-finger window drag doesn't seem to work from the LiveCD, the window handles don't appear from three-finger clicking either). My cursor locks up with varying frequency, but everything else is still in full swing. I can click with the physical buttons, an external mouse works perfectly, and the keyboard is still responsive. However I experience an additional symptom that I don't see anyone else describing. After locking up briefly, sometimes it will move erratically on its own. It'll grab a window, jerk it all over the screen, and sometimes leave it positioned halfway off-screen or maximize it (by dragging to top, I believe). I get the impression it thinks there are fingers all over the touchpad, almost like it thinks I'm palming it, but a little different. It seems to think there are several points of contact either stuck or moving erratically. I have no problems with this touchpad in Windows 7, nor did I in Natty, so there's no question we have a bug in an update. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/868400 Title: Synaptics touchpad stops working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/868400/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

We have disabled the GPU freeze handler for the release, so these falsely triggered error messages will no longer occur in oneiric.
