[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 892440] [NEW] Xorg crashes when using kicad.

2011-11-18 Thread Argyle
Public bug reported:

When zooming in kicad, during heavy work periods, sometimes every 10-20
minutes, I am kicked back to gdm login. There is a backtrace in the
Xorg log. About 10% of the time, the screen just freezes, still
allowing mouse cursor movement (but nothing else). I can still ssh into
the box.

Would you mind re-testing this against Oneiric? You can get a Live ISO
image from cdimage.ubuntu.com that should be sufficient for testing
against.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 613650] Re: docking station and closed lid does not disable notebook screen

2011-11-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Martin, can you update us on the status of your bug? Have you tried
upgrading or reinstalling a newer version of Ubuntu?

If it's still a problem in Precise, would you mind turning on drm debug
(run sudo xdiagnose, it's the first checkbox, then reboot and reproduce
the bug, and collect the output of 'dmesg').

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 366261] Re: Synaptic touchpad lost sync when switch keyboard layouts

2011-11-18 Thread Владимир Зубко
FINALLY! I found how to fix this bug!
To correct this error with an error synchronizing the touchpad on my laptop HP
Pavilion DV6750er do the following:
1) Add a string kernel boot parameters "i8042.dumbkbd = 1":
$ sudo vim /etc/default/grub
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i8042.dumbkbd=1"
2)Update the boot loader GRUB:
$ sudo update-grub
3)Reboot system
4)Enjoy:)

Best regards, Vladimir.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command in a terminal after
reproducing the issue, and it it will automatically gather debugging
information needed for this bug:

Also, can you re-test this on oneiric and see if the fglrx driver we
include there still has this bug? If it does we may want to escalate it
to AMD.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 576736] Re: black and white bar lines across both monitors on start up

2011-11-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
It's probably a driver bug, but since you didn't include any config or
log files it's not possible to do any analysis to narrow it down.

Please attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log, /etc/X11/xorg.conf,
~/.config/monitors.xml and the output of `dmesg`. That should at least
give us the basic run down of your system so we can determine what the
next steps should be. If there's any way you can take a photo of the
monitors showing the bars, that would help.

I assume after the boot is over, the oddness goes away?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 776322] Re: Switch to "dual monitor" causes second screen to show garbage.

2011-11-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi rew, thanks for checking. If you're no longer able to reproduce it
on Oneiric after updating, I guess we can consider the issue solved
(locating the patch that fixed it could be quite challenging). Can you
confirm that on Oneiric all your dual-head hardware is now behaving
properly?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 753216] Re: [arrandale] Computer hangs when trying to sleep after external monitor is connected or disconnected

2011-11-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
@Salva, since you have a different video card and seem to have narrowed
it to your video driver, I think it would be better for you to file as a
separate bug report. If you could re-test against oneiric (or even
precise) that would be a help. File the bug using the command:

   ubuntu-bug xorg

which will collect the required logs and such.

One thing that would be helpful is to ssh into the machine after it's
'hung' and collect the output of 'dmesg'. If you can't ssh into it,
then that suggests you're seeing a kernel problem, and should file the
bug using this command instead:

  ubuntu-bug linux

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 687413] Re: Screen flicking with dual monitors in netbook remix on eeePC

2011-11-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Tim,

Could you please file separate bug reports for each of the issues you've
encountered? For issues that seem to clearly be the configuration tool,
file them using the command

  ubuntu-bug gnome-desktop

For everything else (or if you're uncertain), use the command:

  ubuntu-bug xorg

I'll close this bug report out at this time.

Are you able to reproduce this bug on Oneiric?

I believe the issue with apport recommending installation of proprietary
drivers has been solved in oneiric. Can you confirm whether the
"Hardware Drivers" applet is still recommending installation of fglrx
after you've updated to the final oneiric release? If it is, that'd be
a problem we should investigate.

No, there is no method supported in Ubuntu for switching between the two
(nor any near-term plans to support switching).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 366261] Re: Synaptic touchpad lost sync when switch keyboard layouts

2011-11-18 Thread Владимир Зубко
This bug remained in Ubuntu 11.10 (amd64)
I use two languages: Russian and English. To switch the keyboard layout I
need to press Alt + Shift. This error occurs only in one case. When switch the
language I use the touchpad in parallel. If I switched the layout where it
waited 5 seconds, then everything is fine. Or after 5-10 seconds this error all
are normal.
I would really like to fix it. I am willing to spend as much time as necessary.
I just do not know where to look. I also want to add my laptop is noticeably
better with kernel 3.0. Rebooting is smooth without superfluous sounds.
Similarly as in the pre-installed Windows.
All the information which I think is useful I have written.
Show you how you can track the error. Basic knowledge of / c + + I have tried
and I would understand - but do not know how.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 882710] Re: Dual monitors randomly black out, might be linked to switching workspaces

2011-11-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
To all who are seeing this bug occur, please see if you can narrow down
the conditions that seem to lead to this condition. I know it seems
totally random, but this type of bug typically is triggered by
_something_ - although it may not be at all obvious.

When it happens, note what you had been doing the 5-10 minutes
previously. And think about the state of the system, loads it might
have been running, etc.

The reason being able to reproduce it at will is important is so we can
have you try varying different things to see if it makes the bug go away
(or occur more), which can help in narrowing down where exactly the bug
is.

Also, I browsed through all the provided logs but saw no error messages.
It's likely no errors are written at all anywhere, but sometimes you may
find something in ~/.xsession-errors, the gsd logs, /var/log/*, etc. If
anyone spots anything that looks relevant from any of these places
please post here.

Could someone on the Compiz or Unity side evaluate this from the
standpoint of being a Twinview-specific error? I bet there is some
special code in Compiz/Nux/Unity for twinview as opposed to xrandr
setups, and wonder if the bug could lay there.

This sounds a lot like a driver bug, but I suppose it's possible Unity
could be doing something odd. Has anyone attempted reproducing it under

@Alberto, it's unclear if this is Unity or the video driver but appears
to be -nvidia specific and possibly a regression starting in oneiric.
Would you mind raising this with NVIDIA when you get a chance?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 890636] Re: help

2011-11-18 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System ->
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

Hmm... I'm not sure I totally understand your description of the problem.
Could you please elaborate and clarify? You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively"

reporting guidelines at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting .

Also, please run apport-collect 888134 after reproducing the bug to

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 813343] Re: nvidia drivers, second monitor covered by black

2011-11-18 Thread Achim Behrens
I use a Dell Vostro 1500 with a GeForce 8600M GT.
I used to have lucid with gnome2 (of course) with a seperate x-server setting
for my external tft. everything worked like a charme.

Then i switched to an SSD and did a oneiric reinstall.
When installing any oneiric nvidiadriver and setting up the seperate xserver
setting i get the same issue with black (or white when i click around) screen
on the external tft. Mouse apears as the low-graphic X, nothing of unity is
shown, nothing is clickable.

Twinview works, BUT like #66 its ugly slow. compiz and Xorg are using >10%cpu
each, scrolling in chromium gets laggy, shoving programs between ext. and
laptop screen laggs and switching to fullscreen takes several seconds.
It is like using an old pentium 2 :/

this is the bug with the seperate xscreen. its unity related like this one.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 813566] Re: Greeter not displayed correctly on multi monitor setup

2011-11-18 Thread Andrew Daugherity
I get the same behavior as Daniel Nyström, (btw, how did you take a
screenshot of the login screen?), but only _after_ the monitor has gone
to sleep. On bootup, and immediately after logging out, things look
normal -- the primary monitor has the login window and the second
monitor is black (but working -- it shows the mouse pointer if I move it
over there).

This is a docked laptop with two external 1920x1200 displays (one DVI,
one VGA) using binary nVidia drivers (nvidia-current 280.13-0ubuntu6;
GPU is "nVidia Corporation G84 [Quadro FX 1600M]") and TwinView.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 868400] Re: Synaptics touchpad stops working

2011-11-18 Thread Thucydides411
I think we may be looking at two separate (but perhaps related?)
problems here, since one group of users is reporting that their mouse
completely freezes, and that "synclient TouchpadOff=0" works to unfreeze
the mouse, while another group - including myself - reports that the
mouse and keyboard temporarily lock up (a few seconds at most), and then
behave erratically afterwards (clicking and dragging windows
uncontrollably).

I'm encountering the same issue. Like others, maximising the window
fixes it (but it's annoying to have to do this).
"/apps/metacity/general/capture_before_unmap" is already unchecked for
me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 861268] Re: text corruption in terminals (xterm, urxvt) and emacs

2011-11-18 Thread James Hunt
Switching to "Unity 2D" (*) seems to solve the problem for me. Can
anyone else comment on their experiences?

(*) - To switch to Unity 2D, click the "gear" icon by your name on the
lightdm display manager and select "Unity 2D". If there is no entry for
"Unity 2D":

1) Login
2) Open a terminal
3) Type, "sudo apt-get install unity-2d"
4) Logout

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 871809] Re: MacBook: Backlight doesn't turn on at (or after) unlock screen

2011-11-18 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
** Description changed:

  MacBook early 2008 model, Intel® 965GM x86/MMX/SSE2
+ MacBook Pro 2011 model

- Problem occurs with: Ubuntu 11.10 beta
+ Problem occurs with: Ubuntu 11.10
Does not occur with: Ubuntu 11.04, Ubuntu 10.10, Ubuntu 10.04, etc

  1. Choose “Lock Screen”.
  2. Wait for the backlight to turn off.
  3. Press a key or touch a pointing device.
  4. Press one of the brightness keys on the keyboard.
  5. Enter your password at the unlock screen.
  6. Press one of the brightness keys on the keyboard.

  What happens:
  3. The unlock screen appears, but it is almost invisible, because the
backlight has not turned back on.
  4. The backlight still does not turn on.
  5. The backlight still does not turn on.
  6. When you choose to increase/decrease the brightness, the backlight finally
turns on.

  What should happen:
  3. The backlight turns on immediately.

This looks similar to bug 580225, except that that bug was occurring
with Ubuntu 10.04, whereas this bug was not.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 772207] Re: version 173.14.30 driver is buggy for NVidia GeForce FX series

2011-11-18 Thread gerstrong
Blacklisting the nouveau drivers (the module) and installing the latest
official drivers solve most of the related FX problems.

http://www.nvidia.de/object/linux-display-amd64-173.14.31-driver-de.html

Could the Ubuntu Team please update the package to that version?
173.14.30 has some bugs using FX cards.

Thanks!

No activity on this for a while, but I would like to mention that this

monitors are at 1680x1050 btw.
