[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 586027] Re: xserver causes extreme cpu-load unexpected [Lucid]
I had a similar problem with the nvidia driver doing TwinView. The X-server took every now and then a whole CPU core of two cores present. Opposed to the bug report my system always recovered after some minutes. Recently I found out about Qt's graphicssystem options raster and OpenGL (see http://labs.qt.nokia.com/2009/12/16/qt-graphics-and-performance-an- overview/). In short, the Qt people concentrate to improve the raster system on all supported platforms because OpenGL has some drawbacks. On the other hand at least the kubuntu people decided to set OpenGL as default. They have some good reasons for that either. I installed package kde-qt-config-graphicssystem and used it to switch the graphicssystem from default to raster in KDE's system settings and now all performance problems are blown away. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/586027 Title: xserver causes extreme cpu-load unexpected [Lucid] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/586027/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I can't find a solution anywhere! ** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-mouse (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete ** Tags: bot-comment -- mouse does not appear https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/896958 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-mouse in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 897131] [NEW] some mouse events are lost
You have been subscribed to a public bug: [Note this happens only when using the buttons and touchpoint on my Lenovo Thinkpad X220. When I plug in an external mouse, I do not see the problem.] - I cannot drag with the middle mouse button; it generates scroll events only. - Chorded mouse clicks are lost (I use an application that reacts to specific combinations of mouse buttons). For example, if I click, drag and continue to hold down the left mouse button, then click the middle mouse button (while still holding down the left button), that click is not delivered to my application. This simple tcl/tk input to wish will demonstrate the problem - chord the mouse as described above, and the b2 event will not be triggered correctly. bind . ButtonPress-1 {puts b1} bind . ButtonPress-2 {puts b2} bind . ButtonRelease-1 {puts b1r} bind . ButtonRelease-2 {puts b2r} bind . ButtonPress-3 {puts b3} bind . ButtonRelease-3 {puts b3r} This behaviour is not entirely consistent - *sometimes* I do see the chorded click. This bug also occurs in Unity-2D and has been reported there: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity-2d/+bug/893546 ** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete -- some mouse events are lost https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/897131 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 898217] [NEW] Xorg freeze
Public bug reported: When an external display is attached using the HDMI port the screen gets mirrored on the internal and the external display. When switching off the mirror screens option, the external display blanks out and the internal display gets solid light grey. When switching to console (Strg-Alt-F1) the console is shown at the internal display only and without any constraints. The console shows something like: drm intel_disable_transcoder failed. Reboot is needed to fix the issue back to mirrored screen. Before the last updates it was possible to disable mirror screens and to close the notebook, while the external display automatically turn into the main screen. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 898214] Re: Xorg crash in PlayReleasedEvents() [natty, oneiric] - (xi2 issue?)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 780961] Re: Natty Xorg crashes on Thinkpad X201 (i915 driver) when using keyboard-based window management
The (Ubuntu patched) code in question is: static void PlayReleasedEvents(void) { QdEventPtr prev, qe = syncEvents.pending; DeviceIntPtr dev; DeviceIntPtr pDev; prev = NULL; while (qe) { if (!qe-device-deviceGrab.sync.frozen) == line 1188 { if (syncEvents.pending == qe) syncEvents.pending = qe-next; pDev = qe-device; if (syncEvents.pendtail == qe) syncEvents.pendtail = prev; if (qe-event-any.type == ET_Motion) CheckVirtualMotion(pDev, qe, NullWindow); syncEvents.time.months = qe-months; syncEvents.time.milliseconds = qe-event-any.time; Line 1188 is actually unchanged by the Xi2 patches, however much of the surrounding code has changed. I'm gathering that qe-device must be undefined at this point. I'm unsure whether simply checking qe-device as NULL is the right solution. ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg Ever since upgrading to natty a couple days ago, I've been having problems with Xorg crashing. I got a traceback (already attached, gdmlog1), which suggested something related to pthreads, so I tried disabling hyperthreading and all but one core in BIOS. This reduced the frequency of crashing from about once per 10 minutes to once per 2 days. I don't know if it's specific to the intel driver, or if it is a more general issue. As far as steps for reproducing the issue... I'm not exactly sure. This is a description of a typical session: 1. Log in via gdm. I'm using sawfish, with a custom Xsession. 2. Start a few programs. I ran xchat, chrome, midori, a few instances of dillo, and a few instances if urxvt (client/server mode, not independent instances). 3. Trigger a few window redraws, by changing desktops or moving windows around. I triggered these actions via key shortcuts, generally a few times in a fraction of a second. Result: Once in a while, step 3 will cause an Xorg crash. The frequency increases quite a bit with SMP enabled (2 cores + HT, so 4 logical CPUs). - Backtrace: - [164690.319] 0: /usr/bin/X (xorg_backtrace+0x26) [0x4a2626] - [164690.319] 1: /usr/bin/X (0x40+0x6219a) [0x46219a] - [164690.319] 2: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0 (0x7f99ff2fe000+0xfc60) [0x7f99ff30dc60] - [164690.319] 3: /usr/bin/X (0x40+0x3d7e5) [0x43d7e5] - [164690.319] 4: /usr/bin/X (ProcAllowEvents+0x14b) [0x43df1b] - [164690.319] 5: /usr/bin/X (0x40+0x2e2a9) [0x42e2a9] - [164690.319] 6: /usr/bin/X (0x40+0x21a7e) [0x421a7e] - [164690.319] 7: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (__libc_start_main+0xff) [0x7f99fe247eff] - [164690.319] 8: /usr/bin/X (0x40+0x21629) [0x421629] - [164690.319] Segmentation fault at address 0x291 - [164690.319] - Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 780961] Re: Xorg crash in PlayReleasedEvents with Sawfish when using keyboard-based window management
Some more data, which may or may not be useful: I am unable to reproduce this bug using Selene's method (rapidly forcing window redraws) and both my machines having the problem are using the nvidia xorg server. The only way I've been able to trigger this is to start xterms (and xterms only) (#898214 ) using a sawfish keyboard shortcut that uses run- application.jl (http://sawfish.wikia.com/wiki/Run-application). I cannot reproduce at will. It doesn't seem to be directly related to the number or xterms I launch or the frequency. I've had the crash happen a minute after X starts and also not until 10 days later. iswitch-window (http://sawfish.wikia.com/wiki/Iswitch-window) is the only other lisp code other than key bindings present in both machines that are crashing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/780961 Title: Xorg crash in PlayReleasedEvents with Sawfish when using keyboard- based window management To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/780961/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 873482] Re: elantech: Touchpad always reports 3 finger tap as 1 finger tap
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ubuntu ** Description changed: I have an ETPS/2 Elantech touchpad in my Asus Eeepc and since installing oneiric, 3 finger taps always registers as whatever TapButton1 is set to in synclient. The touchpad would appear to use the version 2 protocol, since it has 6 bytes per packet. I reported this issue against linux instead of xserver-xorg-input- synaptics because booting into the natty kernel (2.6.38-11) in oneiric fixes the issue and 3 finger taps work correctly. As further testing, I built a kernel from linus's git (so it doesn't have the elantech version 3 patches included with the latest oneiric kernels), and 3 finger tap still didn't work, so my guess it is a problem with one of the changes to include the new kernel multi-touch code. I don't know if this means there is a bug in this new code, or some issue with xserver-xorg-input-synaptics and the new code. I reverted the multi-touch changes in drivers/input/mouse/elantech.{c,h} (back to the version in 2.6.38, still need to figure out exactly where the changes were introduced), rebuilt just the psmouse module and 3 finger tap works correctly again, so if it is a kernel problem, it would appear to be localized to just that module. I will continue to investigate, any assistance is appreciated.
