[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work

2012-01-17 Thread pauljohn32
ndkhoi168: There's no way for us to know that you have the particular
kind of touchpad that this driver supports. Supposing it is, you need
to use the synclient program to review and set the options. Simply
installing the d river does not necessarily do any good. You need to be
sure the kernel module is loading and then configure everything.

I don't see any attachments with your post, but I'm not sure they would
help me anyway. I want to see the output of

I see this output.

If, after a system restart, you can do this to see if the psmouse module is
running.

$ /sbin/lsmod

will list all modules loaded. make sure psmouse is in there.

If not, run

$ /sbin/modprobe psmouse

When I force the mouse driver to be removed and restarted, I see this in
dmesg output:

[284927.600654] alps.c: E6 report: 00 00 64
[284927.619964] alps.c: E7 report: 73 02 64

Only after you make sure there will y ou have any hope of configuring
the thing with synclient.

If you get psmouse loaded, and synclient shows output, then I'd say you
probably need to ask for help from Ubuntu users, since not all versions
of linux will have exactly the same problems.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 416073] Re: [i965] low intel graphics performance - again

2012-01-17 Thread tremby
I'm not sure if I'm experiencing the same bug or a different one. I'm
using Lucid. I have the GM45 chipset.

I first noticed bad performance in a game after an upgrade. I've since
tried a lot of different kernel versions with these results:

2.6.32-36-generic -- fine
2.6.32-37-generic -- fine
2.6.35-30-generic -- fine
2.6.35-32-generic -- fine
2.6.38-8-generic -- slow
2.6.38-10-generic -- slow
2.6.38-13-generic -- slow
2.6.39-2-generic -- slow
2.6.39-3-generic -- slow
3.0.0-14-generic -- slow

I'm not changing anything else when I test, just rebooting loading a
different kernel, then running glxgears.

I'm willing to provide whatever info is needed -- just say what.

[Problem]
Ubuntu hangs after grub when an external monitor connected to ASUS N73SV via
HDMI or VGA. Error message is:

*ERROR* Couldn't find PLL settings for mode!

First reported against Ubuntu 11.04 Natty (2.6.38-10.46-generic
2.6.38.7). Verified as still occurring with Ubuntu 12.04 (kernel 3.2).

(We've had several similar bugs on sandybridge with external monitors.
I'll forward the others as well.)

[Original Report]
With the HDMI/VGA disconnected Ubuntu starts fine. After Ubuntu completely
loaded the external display can be connected without problems. At this time it
is detected properly and works perfect. The desktop is shared fine to it. i.e
each time I turn it on I have to disconnect external display, wait until Ubuntu
login screen displayed, then connect
the external display again.

Xorg.0.log ends with:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 912992] Re: Primary laptop display not working, external monitor works fine.

2012-01-17 Thread Stephen Rees-Carter
Yep, I'm running 11.10 at the moment. It needs the 'noapic' flag, but
apart from that, it works well.

I have attached the output of 'xrandr --verbose > xrandr.txt' from
11.10, and I will boot into 12.04 in 15 mins or so to get the output of
the other commands you asked for.

Thanks for the debugging help :) I really appreciate it!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 913183] Re: EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop.

2012-01-17 Thread Bryce Harrington
For GPU lockup bugs with Intel graphics, you need to collect the output
of 'dmesg' and your /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state file. Both
of these must be collected while the machine is locked up (e.g. by
sshing into the sick machine over ethernet). See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze for additional info.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 912992] Re: Primary laptop display not working, external monitor works fine.

2012-01-17 Thread Bryce Harrington
Interesting! Well, the logs look ok; your system is seeing your monitor
and graphics card capabilities just fine, and the logs look perfectly
normal. Which, obviously, is a blatant lie.

Now, you have sandybridge graphics, and we certainly have had some
reported issues with graphics on these systems. I think the CRTC
mapping may be off in some situations. Fortunately these types of
issues are getting high priority attention upstream, if we can collect
the right info.

Enable drm debugging. Run `sudo xdiagnose`, it's the first checkbox.
Enable it, hit apply, wait for grub to rebuild, then reboot and collect
`sudo dmesg > dmesg.txt` and post that here. We can review that to see
if it is a CRTC mapping issue.

It sounds like you're currently running an earlier version that does not
have this bug? If so, please collect 'xrandr --verbose > xrandr.txt`
from that earlier version and post that here too. We can review that to
see if it is an EDID/modeline issue.

With an external monitor attached, run the command `xrandr --output
LVDS1 off; xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto` which will see if simply re-
loading the display is enough to get it initialized properly.

2012-01-17 Thread Raylene Macgillivary
Also affects Ubuntu 12.04:

I have a Intel GM965 integrated video card and SVGA out is not working.
It does work with 10.04, all subsequent versions it no longer works.

The TV is detected, I can see the screen flicker while it is being
detected, and I can move the mouse to it, but the TV screen is black.

Collect the output of `ps aux > ps.txt` and post that here, from when
the system is showing the performance problem.

Nothing is out of the ordinary in your log files, and this does not
sound like an X bug so far to me. Do you have other information or
reasons why you believe it to be a problem with X?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 902313] Re: Not full touchpad functionality

2012-01-17 Thread Bryce Harrington
You've hard coded your config to use evdev. Try using synaptics, which
is the supported driver for touchpads.

Section "InputClass"
Identifier "evdev touchpad"
MatchIsTouchpad "on"
Driver "evdev"
Option "Mode" "absolute"
EndSection

** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => Invalid

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 901386] Re: Ubuntu 3.2 kernels vs. nvidia-current vs GTX 560 (Mainline works)

2012-01-17 Thread Daniel Fletcher
It was my mistake earlier. I used my own compile of the 3.2 kernel with
IOMMU all disabled as I only have a Core2 Duo that doesn't support
IOMMU. I have to use the intel_iommu=off with any build of the 3.2 or
3.2.1 kernel wether from ubuntu sources or kernel.org. On 12.10 and
11.10. Using any nvidia binary.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 890061] Re: Nouveau thinks secondary DVI connection is HDMI - monitor blank

2012-01-17 Thread pablomme
I have a very similar problem with my nvidia G94 (GeForce 9600 GT), only
differing in the HDMI issue - xrandr correctly detects the two DVIs. Out
of curiosity, does this happen for you with the live CD? In my case a
daily image of precise works fine, but both oneiric and precise exhibit
the problem once installed. This should mean that it's some minor
problem that is preventing the second monitor from working.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 726902] Re: [i945gm] Loss of vsync when using Metacity.

2012-01-17 Thread Tom Vijlbrief
Well, I also have the problem in Oneiric. It really drives me nut. I tried
every combination of
xorg.conf settings but could not get a setting with good results.

I'm using no window manager at all! I use the User Defined Session option from
lightdm
and start XBMC from there. Without xorg.conf I have no tearing (because
SwapBuffersWait is the
drivers default) but an irregular frame rate. Probably because XBMC cannot sync
on the retrace in that
configuration.

When I add

 Option "SwapbuffersWait" "false"

to an /etc/X11/xorg.conf and enable VSync in XBMC I get regular frame rates
when watching video
but always with tearing. The VSync Intel driver machinery on at least the Intel
945GM (first generation MiniMac)
is really screwed up. I'm using an HDMI display, I cannot remember having seen
this issue when using analog VGA output.

XBMC on the same box using Windows-7 works fine, so it is not a hardware
limitation.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 917726] [NEW] When plugging back into an external display, the screen goes mental

2012-01-17 Thread Ellen Arnold
Public bug reported:

If I unplug my laptop from the external display at my desk, when I
return and plug back in, the screen often goes mental. There are
flashing black bands with sharp diagonals appearing at the refresh rate
on the screen. The only way I've found to resolve this is to restart
the computer.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 917668] [NEW] Xorg freeze ("hard LOCKUP"), warn_slowpath_common+0x7f

2012-01-17 Thread Jani Uusitalo
Public bug reported:

I've had sporadic freezes on this system before since upgrading to
Precise, but I haven't had the resources to try and ssh in prior to
this, so I can't tell if this has occurred before. Now that I have an
additional laptop I can hopefully catch this again if it occurs.

I screwed up with the logs first, but then managed to salvage dmesg with
a Trace from terminal buffer. I'll attach it separately below.

I wasn't active on the desktop when the freeze happened (had my hands on
the laptop). At least Chromium, Transmission and Google Music were
running at the time.

(I'm not familiar with Traces so I'll just pick something from the first
line as title. Feel free to change it if needed.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 838659] Re: [Inspiron M4110] can't output to external monitor via VGA

2012-01-17 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Tim, was the original bug _after_ configuring the driver to use the
external monitor (with amdcccle), or do you get the error when first
plugging in the vga?

Asking because the driver does not support output hotplug, so you need
to configure the driver first, and now other people say that amdcccle
crashes when trying to save the configfile (which, strictly speaking, is
a different bug).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 917627] Re: package nvidia-current 195.36.24-0ubuntu1~10.04.1 [modified: lib/nvidia-current/modprobe.conf] failed to install/upgrade: nvidia-current kernel module failed to build

2012-01-17 Thread poolet
Ok. This 5 min later I figure out the problem ( at least for me )

open gedit as root: gksu gedit.
go and open::  /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf.
at this line::  blacklist nouveau.
save the file, and open /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-graphics-drivers.conf.
at the following and then save the file

blacklist nouveau
blacklist lbm-nouveau
blacklist nvidia-173
blacklist nvidia-96
alias nvidia nvidia-current
Run the following as root

  sudo nvidia-xconfig,
  sudo apt-get remove xserver-xorg-video-nouveau,
 sudo shutdown -r now.

when you rester the computer probaply it will not work a pop-up windows
say some options, select from the window

X - Restart end hit Enter!!!
After reboot nvidia drivers will work propered

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 901386] Re: Ubuntu 3.2 kernels vs. nvidia-current vs GTX 560 (Mainline works)

2012-01-17 Thread 3vi1
> Has anyone had any luck with newer kernels than 3.2rc4?

No luck here. As of 3.2.0.9 I still have to disable intel_iommu in grub
to get it to work, even with the new 290.10 nvidia-current packages.
