[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 681054] Re: [i915gm] screen repeatedly goes black for a fraction of a second (two monitors detected?)

Regression began in 10.10 and continues in 11.04. Reporter has been testing upstream git snapshots and finds problem still persists. [Original Description] Since I upgraded from Ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10, the monitor displays correctly for a couple of seconds, then turns black for a fraction of a second and then repeats the on and off sequence, making the computer nearly unusable. The whole sequence is periodic, not random. Another bug reported earlier (#606987) persists in this release as well, perhaps with the exception that restarting the computer (as opposed to turning it on after a shutdown) gives a normal logon screen. (I only used Restart a couple of times since the upgrade.) With a live CD for natty, the display is fine up to the screen where I am shown the menu that includes using Ubuntu without installing. Once I choose this option the display changes and the name ubuntu appears, underscored by five dots whose color changes from white to red and back to show that the computer is doing work. It is there that the screen starts to blink. I have only one monitor, although at some level - at least for maverick and older versions - the computer seems to think that I have two. This is probably at least part of the cause of the other bug (#606987) I mentioned in the original description of this problem. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 926560] [NEW] Lubuntu (11.10) Displays Incorrect Shutdown Icon
Public bug reported: Using Oxygen Icon theme, I expect the Shutdown Button to be the Red one like /usr/share/icons/oxygen/16x16/system-shutdown.png. Instead, I just see a dull grey cogwheel, which I suppose is a default when no icon is found. I found lubuntu-logout.desktop file which is associated with this button. It includes Icon=system-shutdown-panel. But oxygen theme (and many other themes) does not include a sytem-shutdown-panel icon. I fixed my problem by changing lubuntu-logout.desktop file to include Icon=system-shutdown. NOTE: The Apport information attached is from AFTER my modification. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 926637] [NEW] Xorg crashes to black screen when attaching HDMI Samsung monitor to laptop
Public bug reported: Since updating, about a couple weeks ago, whenever I plug my home Samsung SyncMaster P2450 external HDMI screen into my Dell XPS laptop, my desktop disappears and both screens go black. This bug is still a regression in 11.04 Natty as well as 11.10 Oneiric. The current upstream bugreport is this one: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=38934 Meanwhile a fix has been released: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-gfx/2012-January/014257.html And this fix made it into the mainline kernel 3.0.19 drm/i915/sdvo: always set positive sync polarity: http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.0/ChangeLog-3.0.19 The Oneiric update to 3.0.19 stable release has been posted. Please consider the patch drm/i915/sdvo: always set positive sync polarity https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/926309 for inclusion into next ubuntu Oneiric stable kernel. ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #38934 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=38934 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/212206 Title: [i965] [Hardy] digital output driver (SDVO) sets wrong resolution on GM965 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/212206/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 926691] [NEW] xorg crashed on using virtualbox4.1.8
Public bug reported: I am testing virtualbox4,1,8 for backporting to Ubuntu11.10 64bit - see Bug 925480. Sometimes(arround every 10-20 times) a start of a guest crashed xorg, which brings the user back to login screen. That is critical, because in regular cases such behaviour will cause data loose of not saved work. Expected: xorg should be more robust to handle virtualisation with virtualbox. - Crashes of the guest may be o.K, but crashes of the host are not. Additional: This is also reported to virtualbox bugtracker, but I see it more on the side on xorg than virtualbox. I have observed such behaviour also on openSUSE12.1, also with 4.1.6 for sure. I do not know if the crasher also happen with virtualbox4.1.2, which ships with Ubuntu 11.10 by default.(I am pretty sure it is like this). I am on Radeon HD3000. One word on the relevance of that bug: Virtualbox4.1.8 is important for testing of Ubuntu12.04. There are patches in that enable kernel3.2.x running stable in virtualbox. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 926714] [NEW] continuous jerky mouse movements while using nouveau driver in 12.04
Public bug reported: This first time I started using the nouveau driver was in 12.04. So I would not be able to say if this worked in other Ubuntu versions. When moving around the screen at random times the mouse movements are very jerky. ou would move i a direction then it suddenly gets stuck for a microsecond breaking workflow. This happens while dragging items or just moving about the desktop. When I switch to the prop nvidia drivers this problem disappears, mouse movement is super smooth. I have also done some IRQ troubleshooting and it not that. Only happens with nouveau driver on this laptop (Dell XPS L701). I am not running 12.04 on any other PC's so I cannot say if this is device specific. I don't particularly want to use the prop drivers as I nvidia's multi monitor support is shocking and the new ubuntu support is WAY better. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 926661] [NEW] Visual Effects crashs when I switch windows while runing Git with Wish
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Environment I am using git with its gui applications gitk and gitgui which are based on the simple windowing shell named wish. Also I enabled Visual Effects in the Appearance Preferences (gnome-appearance-properties) of Ubuntu. I set the mode to Extra. I am running Ubuntu (Maverick) 10.10 and using git 1.7.8.3. Problem When I changed windows with ALT + TAB the Visual Effects seem to crash. That can be seen since the mode is set to None afterwards. Questions Do you know how I can fix this or where I can find debug information? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 926714] Re: continuous jerky mouse movements while using nouveau driver in 12.04
I have just tested this issue and made a recording. It's very interesting. I started a stopwatch and just made small circular mouse movements. I noted that almost every 10 seconds (around the 8 second mark) the mouse will get stuck, as I described, but the stopwatch clock ALSO gets stuck. Then I played the recording back and could clearly see the stopping clock. But during the recording I was not moving my mouse and only the recording would show the freeze. Then I tried moving my mouse at the same the recording is playing. I was clearly able to see that every 10 seconds (around the 3 second mark) the recording would freeze, and then again at 8 seconds the actual recording will freeze as well. But that was expected as that was whatI was recording. So in conclusion it seems that if you are moving your mouse about almost every 10 seconds the entire screen freezes for a microsecond, this is easily repeatable as described above. Also tried it while playing a youtube video. Play video, not moving mouse, all fine, move mouse around and every 10 seconds video lags. Although it doesn't seem like the trigger of the timer is the start of the mouse moving. I could be typing something and want to move the mouse and immediately it gets stuck. It's as if there is a background process thats constantly running and at regular intervals causes if freeze only if the mouse happens to move at that time. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/926714 Title: continuous jerky mouse movements while using nouveau driver in 12.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/926714/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Public bug reported: Precise Pangolin 12.04 alpha-2 clean install from usb stick upon login desktop goes black with top panel still visible. Any window opened fights to stay on top of desktop-background, overlay of windows leaves artifacts of lower windows and using ALT+mouse is the only way to raise window to top of stack. Left click on desktop causes all windows to drop to bottom of stack and desktop-background to come to top briefly before dropping back again. Left click and drag on desktop creates red selection areas to remain on desktop and destroy other windows. Suspect openchrome driver not supporting graphics request. Public bug reported: Ubuntu 12.04After updating the xserver-xorg-input-evdev package from 2.6.0-1ubuntu13 to 2.6.99.901-1ubuntu3 the Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 8000 wheel tilt works like scrolling and the xev utility reports that buttons 4 and 5 clicked when I try to tilt the wheel left and right (should report 6 and 7 buttons for the tilt, 4 and 5 for wheel scroll). It worked right before the update. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/926917 Title: Mouse wheel tilt not works To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-evdev/+bug/926917/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 647802] Re: amdcccle crashed with SIGSEGV
I am having the same issue with a Radeon 5770 and XUbuntu 11.10, using the command 'sudo amdcccle'. I ran 'sudo gdb amdcccle', followed by the run command to run the executable, duplicated the error, and got a backtrace with 'bt'. I'm not sure how helpful this is because there are a lot of unnamed functions here. #0 0x005b5614 in ?? () #1 0x00499709 in ?? () #2 0x0049d3b5 in ?? () #3 0x004a127f in ?? () #4 0x004b60b7 in ?? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 925785] Re: Starting to scroll is erratic with edge scrolling on touchpad or mouse scrollwheels
ah, so it's not just me For me the behaviour is that if I repeatedly scroll down slowly sometimes the scroll will suddenly jump right back up. I had wondered if it's something like moving the mouse at the same time as I was scrolling but I don't think so.
