While this is indeed a bug in mesa, there is already handling in unity- support-test in nux to handle software rendering and it should be extended to also block llvmpipe because it's not going to be able to run unity in 12.04. You can reproduce this bug when using mesa by exporting LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1. just adding on llvmpipe similar to on softpipe in this snippet from unity-support-test in nux would be enough // Check for software rendering. if (results-renderer != NULL (strncmp (results-renderer, Software Rasterizer, 19) == 0 || strncmp (results-renderer, Mesa X11, 8) == 0 || strstr (results-renderer, on softpipe) != NULL)) { results-flags |= FLAG_SOFTWARE_RENDERING; Here are the strings for llvmpipe: OpenGL vendor string: VMware, Inc. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 582809]
Is there any hope for a better clickpad performance in coming versions due to the enormous advances in Xorg multitouch support pushed greatly by Peter Hutterer during the last few months? I saw all those articles on his blog (who-t..) and wondered if this will affect clickpad support in the near future. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 889068] Re: eog logs me out when I try to turn right or left an image
If #9 is indeed the same bug, sounds like it could have something to do with resource exhaustion. Interesting. Probably a pixmap buffer that's not being dynamically resized properly. Everyone experiencing this bug, please collect a full backtrace on this crash - see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing for guidance. Post your full traces here. The abbreviated traces people have posted are somewhat different from the OP. Please indicate if you see these crashes also after rotating an image left or right in eog. ** Description changed: When I turn left or right an image, system logs out and I have to log again on my count + + Backtrace: + [100314.770] 0: /usr/bin/X (xorg_backtrace+0x37) [0x80a66f7] + [100314.770] 1: /usr/bin/X (0x8048000+0x62b3a) [0x80aab3a] + [100314.770] 2: (vdso) (__kernel_rt_sigreturn+0x0) [0x1c340c] + [100314.770] 3: /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (0x276000+0x117771) [0x38d771] + [100314.770] 4: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/intel_drv.so (0x52a000+0xe85c) [0x53885c] + [100314.770] 5: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/intel_drv.so (0x52a000+0x1066c) [0x53a66c] + [100314.770] 6: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/intel_drv.so (0x52a000+0x27873) [0x551873] + [100314.770] 7: /usr/bin/X (0x8048000+0xe643a) [0x812e43a] + [100314.771] 8: /usr/bin/X (0x8048000+0x26997) [0x806e997] + [100314.771] 9: /usr/bin/X (0x8048000+0x2a117) [0x8072117] + [100314.771] 10: /usr/bin/X (0x8048000+0x1c70c) [0x806470c] + [100314.771] 11: /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (__libc_start_main+0xf3) [0x28f113] + [100314.771] 12: /usr/bin/X (0x8048000+0x1ca21) [0x8064a21] + [100314.771] Bus error at address 0xa38ba008 + [100314.800] + Caught signal 7 (Bus error). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 928575] [NEW] cannot get live cd 11.10 to work on medion notebook
Public bug reported: I have a Medion notebook computer running windows 7 home premium. I've been trying for ages to use the live cd to have a look at Ubuntu 11.10, but the boot process spits out heaps of lines, most of which I cannot see and eventually goes into a loop indicating that it's killing something and I have to CTR-ALT-DEL to get out of it. I have tried the cd in another computer and it works OK, so the cd is fine. I've tried using wubi to install 11.10 but that doesn't work either but does get a bit further. I can't provide the items you require because it never gets to the point where it has loaded properly. I suspect it's got something to do with Optimus technology and the nVidia GeForce GT 555M graphics card, but again I'm in the dark because I cannot do any investigation. I'm completely in the dark. I've notice some claims on the web that somw folk have managed to get it to work, but again all the solutions are phrased in terms of a working Ubuntu system that I do not have. Help please ... it's driving me crazy. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 928601] [NEW] touchpad does not work even at login screen
Public bug reported: Used to work fine, then intermittently (while on maverick), and now over and over almost every time I try to log on. I upgraded to Natty, same problem. It worked once, and hasn't worked since. I followed a guide online regarding this, and was told to post here with a dmesg and Xorg.0.log which I will attach here. The ubuntu-bug program did not let me file the bug report against 'linux' as the guide said I should do. I plug in my extra mouse (a wacom pen) and that works fine. I do not see a 'Touchpad' tab under system-settings -- mouse, and I did not find the touchpad under cat /proc/bus/input/devices neither. This is a Sager ifl 2090, with an Elentech touchpad. Some other person posted that his is a 'Touchpad: Elantech 810511-0911' so let's go with that? I also used to get (every once in a while) the non-Xorg login (sorry I don't know what you call it, but it's without the ubuntu splash and login screen -- only a blank screen with command-line login prompt. I would do sudo shutdown -r 0 over and over until I got the splash' login. I believe I saw a couple messages about something in the bios there. That hasn't happened recently but both these problems started happening around the same time, along with a louder fan. Not sure if that helps. (?) [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 928630] [NEW] No supported drivers for ATI video card
Public bug reported: I have a Dell Inspiron 8000 with an ATI rage mobility M4 AGP 128. There are no supported drivers for it in Ubuntu 11.1. It boots up to a vertically segmented, unusable, display. I have discovered, from doing a lot of reading, that by pressing Fn+F7 (twice) I can switch to a usable resolution display. This is kind of a pain to do every time you restart or reboot so it would be nice to have some native drivers to support the video card.
