[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 861268] Re: text corruption in terminals (xterm, urxvt) and emacs

2012-02-07 Thread Tim
I reported #894083 but I think it's a duplicate of this.

I find turning off compiz, or setting 'compizgeneralforce full screen
redraws' works around this issue, but they're neither ideal.

'Fix screen updates in XGL with fglrx' significantly reduces the
frequency with which I experience this, but doesn't resolve it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 928313] [NEW] Horizontal scrolling inverted for Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer for Bluetooth

2012-02-07 Thread Frans Gifford
Public bug reported:

Horizontal scrolling by tilting the mouse wheel is backwards for
Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer for Bluetooth. xev reports tilt left as
button 7 and tilt right as button 6, but tilting left scrolls right and
tilting right scrolls left.

This used to work correctly on oneiric. I'm using Kubuntu, in case it's
possible that something in KDE might cause this ;-)

For those that have been impacted by this bug and wish to stick with the

which contains the necessary support. It is unlikely (not going to
happen) that we will actually apply the indicated patches to the Lucid
kernel.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 927441] [NEW] Far left character in panel (and launcher popups) distorted

2012-02-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After one of the recent Precise updates, I have noticed that the first
character in the Unity panel is distorted. It almost looks like the
character is being partially offset by a couple of pixels. A similar
issue shows up in the popups on icons in the Unity launcher when
hovering over the icon.

The distortion is also visible on the window close icon when the mouse
is on the Unity Panel and the icons and menu are displayed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 816580] Re: Mouse freezes after screensaver lock

2012-02-07 Thread barbablu
This is a persistent problem for me. Brand new box (but existing
peripherals), clean install of Oneiric (updated regularly). I have a
keyboard on the PS/2 socket, mouse and Wacom tablet on USB sockets at
the rear of the case. On startup, if I let the screen saver kick in
before I interact with the computer, the mouse is frozen, whilst all
else is normal (so I use the Wacom tablet in place of mouse or, more
often, reboot).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 926859] Re: Desktop almost useless - due to corruption and flikering

2012-02-07 Thread Robert Hooker
While this is indeed a bug in mesa, there is already handling in unity-
support-test in nux to handle software rendering and it should be
extended to also block llvmpipe because it's not going to be able to run
unity in 12.04. You can reproduce this bug when using mesa by exporting
LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1. just adding on llvmpipe similar to on
softpipe in this snippet from unity-support-test in nux would be enough

  // Check for software rendering.
  if (results-renderer != NULL
  (strncmp (results-renderer, Software Rasterizer, 19) == 0 ||
   strncmp (results-renderer, Mesa X11, 8) == 0 ||
   strstr (results-renderer, on softpipe) != NULL)) {
results-flags |= FLAG_SOFTWARE_RENDERING;

Here are the strings for llvmpipe:
OpenGL vendor string: VMware, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 0x300)
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 8.0-rc2
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.20

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 582809]

2012-02-07 Thread Tuxor1337
Is there any hope for a better clickpad performance in coming versions
due to the enormous advances in Xorg multitouch support pushed greatly
by Peter Hutterer during the last few months?

I saw all those articles on his blog (who-t..) and wondered if this will
affect clickpad support in the near future. What do you think?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 889068] Re: eog logs me out when I try to turn right or left an image

2012-02-07 Thread Bryce Harrington
If #9 is indeed the same bug, sounds like it could have something to do
with resource exhaustion. Interesting. Probably a pixmap buffer that's
not being dynamically resized properly.

Everyone experiencing this bug, please collect a full backtrace on this
crash - see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing for guidance. Post
your full traces here.

The abbreviated traces people have posted are somewhat different from
the OP. Please indicate if you see these crashes also after rotating an
image left or right in eog.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 928575] [NEW] cannot get live cd 11.10 to work on medion notebook

2012-02-07 Thread Allen Biggins
Public bug reported:

I have a Medion notebook computer running windows 7 home premium. I've been
trying for ages to use the live cd to have a look at Ubuntu 11.10, but the boot
process spits out heaps of lines, most of which I cannot see and eventually
goes into a loop indicating that it's killing something and I have to
CTR-ALT-DEL to get out of it.
I have tried the cd in another computer and it works OK, so the cd is fine.
I've tried using wubi to install 11.10 but that doesn't work either but does
get a bit further.
I can't provide the items you require because it never gets to the point where
it has loaded properly.
I suspect it's got something to do with Optimus technology and the nVidia
GeForce GT 555M graphics card, but again I'm in the dark because I cannot do
any investigation.
I'm completely in the dark.
I've notice some claims on the web that somw folk have managed to get it to
work, but again all the solutions are phrased in terms of a working Ubuntu
system that I do not have.
Help please ... it's driving me crazy.
Thanks
Allen

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 928601] [NEW] touchpad does not work even at login screen

2012-02-07 Thread n o
Public bug reported:

Used to work fine, then intermittently (while on maverick), and now over and
over almost every time I try to log on.
I upgraded to Natty, same problem. It worked once, and hasn't worked since.
I followed a guide online regarding this, and was told to post here with a
dmesg and Xorg.0.log which I will attach here.
The ubuntu-bug program did not let me file the bug report against 'linux' as
the guide said I should do.
I plug in my extra mouse (a wacom pen) and that works fine.
I do not see a 'Touchpad' tab under system-settings -- mouse, and I did not
find the touchpad under cat /proc/bus/input/devices neither.
This is a Sager ifl 2090, with an Elentech touchpad. Some other person posted
that his is a 'Touchpad: Elantech 810511-0911' so let's go with that?

I also used to get (every once in a while) the non-Xorg login (sorry I
don't know what you call it, but it's without the ubuntu splash and
login screen -- only a blank screen with command-line login prompt. I
would do sudo shutdown -r 0 over and over until I got the splash'
login. I believe I saw a couple messages about something in the bios
there. That hasn't happened recently but both these problems started
happening around the same time, along with a louder fan. Not sure if
that helps. (?)

and one more thing: the touchpad works fine when I boot into my windows
partition. (never saw a problem there, although I don't do windows very
often. at least this tells us it is not necessarily a hardware
issue)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 909874] Re: eog causes X to crash

Based on the time of the crash and the timestamps of the files in
/var/log, the relevant logfile is actaully Xorg.1.log so I am attaching
that file. I am using a dual-monitor setup if that offers any clues.

In #23705 it was stated that this is not a bug.

Please consider this as a feature request for new option to use
automatically detected screen DPI.

Patch rebased against current git.

Since the original patch no longer applies to current master, and I've had an
updated patch lying around for some time, I'm posting it here so it doesn't get
lost. It seems to still work but it's only been lightly tested.

I no longer care about this issue, since the available solutions are sufficient
for me. I'll leave the rest to the people who do care.

Cheers.

I renamed the option to match comment #27
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23705#c27 in #27505:
DontForce96DPI. There are Fedora 15 i386 and x86_64 rpms at:
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=3372856 and of course
the source rpm.

I tested it and actually didn't see what I expected, so I'm not sure
what's going wrong:

$ rpm -q xorg-x11-server-Xorg

xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.10.4-1.3.fc15.x86_64
$ grep -C2  Dont /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Section ServerFlags
Option  AIGLX on
Option  DontForce96DPI on
EndSection

$ xrandr|grep LV
LVDS connected 1366x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 293mm x
164mm
$ xdpyinfo|grep dimens
  dimensions:1366x768 pixels (361x203 millimeters)

I rebased Nick's original patch but I don't think I ended up with
something any different than his most recently-posted, rebased patch.

Patch rebased against Fedora 15's xorg-x11-server-Xorg

the manpage change is in a separate patch because of how Fedora's rpm
applies the patches, but that change is irrelevant for the
detection/setting of DPI.

1.9.3, maybe ever, so maybe the problem you see is not related to the
patch itself.

This patch works for me. When I set DefaultDPI to auto I get 86 DPI on
my 15 screen. Somewhat odd is that setting DefaultDPI to 123 gives 124
DPI on my 17 screen.

Would it be good to mirror what nvidia's already using? I know their
driver called it UseEDIDDPI, but I don't recall what Section it went
in.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 928630] [NEW] No supported drivers for ATI video card

2012-02-07 Thread J Dumass
Public bug reported:

I have a Dell Inspiron 8000 with an ATI rage mobility M4 AGP 128. There
are no supported drivers for it in Ubuntu 11.1. It boots up to a
vertically segmented, unusable, display. I have discovered, from doing
a lot of reading, that by pressing Fn+F7 (twice) I can switch to a
usable resolution display. This is kind of a pain to do every time you
restart or reboot so it would be nice to have some native drivers to
support the video card. From my readings I have discovered that this
card used to be supported in Ubuntu 5, perhaps you could port the
drivers over to the newer Ubuntu versions?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 822144]

2012-02-07 Thread Tuxor1337
Is there any hope for a better clickpad performance in coming versions
due to the enormous advances in Xorg multitouch support pushed greatly
by Peter Hutterer during the last few months?

I saw all those articles on his blog (who-t..) and wondered if this will
affect clickpad support in the near future. What do you think?
