[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 603599] Re: Please build the vmwgfx driver

2012-02-09 Thread ibidem
Looking at http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/i386/libgl1-mesa-dri/filelist ,
it seems that this has been fixed in Precise.
This would be fix committed

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 907381] Re: Display resolution keeps switching with external monitor connected

2012-02-09 Thread Lee Willis
Couple of further bits of info. I've ruled out connector issues by
trying the same monitor with HDMIDVI rather than VGA output, same
issue.

I'd also note that the exact same laptop and monitor work flawlessly
when booted into Windows 7 so that should rule out any other hardware
related issues.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 928930] Re: Scrolling using the center wheel bounces... (vbox)

2012-02-09 Thread Ricardo Salveti
This is quite annoying, and I can also reproduce it with a ThinkPad T400
using the trackpad scroll. Seems this started to happen after the X11
update near the alpha 2, something to look at.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 929408] [NEW] X does not send multitouch touch end events properly

2012-02-09 Thread Jussi Pakkanen
Public bug reported:

A test app that demostrates this bug can be downloaded from here:
lp:~jpakkane/+junk/touchpad-tester.

My setup is that I have a Magic Trackpad and a Macbook Pro multitouch
trackpad. The test app prints out this:

Using device id 2, Virtual core pointer.
Potential device id 11, bcm5974.
Potential device id 13, Apple Wireless Trackpad.

If I use device ids 11 or 13, stuff works. Device id 2 leads to
problems, though.

I put down five fingers on one touchpad and then five on the other. Then
I lift all fingers up simultaneously. The end result is that I only
receive TouchEnds for roughly half of the touches. The others keep on
existing.

Possible reasons for this bug include X not sending touch end events or
X sending touch end events with a different device id than touch start
events.

Tests were run using precise.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 929410] [NEW] X sends touch events with wrong device id

2012-02-09 Thread Jussi Pakkanen
Public bug reported:

A test app for this bug can be downloaded from lp:~jpakkane/+junk
/touchpad-tester

When tested with a Magic Trackpad and a Lenovo (?) trackpad, the latter
does not show up in the device listing that touchpadtester prints.
However touching the pad does cause touch events, but the X server
claims they originate from the Magic Trackpad.

Either X should list that touchpad as a touch device or not send XI
touch events from it. Especially not ones that claim to come from a
different device.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 391445]

2012-02-09 Thread Yngve-levinsen
Hello,

I have similar issues with Intel Integrated graphics. For me the drawing
problems first occured when I switched from an old 19 to a new 24 screen,
using 1900x1200 resolution. I am using Arch Linux, which means I have a newer
kernel:
$ uname -a
Linux abpc1154 2.6.38-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri May 13 09:24:47 CEST 2011 x86_64

From lspci:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated

I first reported it as a kwin bug since I did not know where to go with the
information, you can find that report here:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=272412

Please let me know if this is the same bug or if I should open a new
report (or look further if it is reported elsewhere). Please also let me
know if you need further information. Thanks.

Forwarding this bug from Ubuntu reporter Daniel Manrique:
http://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/754799

[Problem]
xrandr cannot enable the external monitor. According to the log files it
should be there, and the screen size is expanded as if it were there, but
nothing displays on the monitor. At the point that the external monitor is
hotplugged, dmesg shows this error:

[ 135.356761] [drm] GMBUS timed out, falling back to bit banging on pin
2 [i915 gmbus vga]

and this shows up in Xorg.0.log:

[ 531.748] (II) intel(0): Allocated new frame buffer 3072x1050 stride
12288, tile

Problem has been tested with the 11.04 kernel as well as
2.6.39-994.201104200727 and shows same behavior in both cases.

[Original Description]
Steps to reproduce:

1- Plug a monitor into the VGA output
2- Press the monitor switching key (fn-F5)

Expected result:
- Display appears on external monitor, either mirrored or as additional desktop
space.

Actual result:
- The external monitor is shown in the Monitors panel, and gets correctly
identified (I see Acer 19 or Dell 22, tested with two different screens)
- However, the monitor itself reports no signal, and displays nothing.

I went as far back as Lucid and the problem still persists, so at least
it doesn't appear to be a regression.

Oops, sorry, you're right about the hotkey, I'm repeating the test with
xrandr this time.

I'm running the same experimental kernel:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-next-
proposed/current/linux-
image-2.6.39-994-generic_2.6.39-994.201104200727_amd64.deb

On booting I see the following references to the GMBUS timed out,
falling back to bit banging message:

[ 14.327182] [drm] GMBUS timed out, falling back to bit banging on pin 3 [i915
gmbus panel]
[ 15.375376] [drm] GMBUS timed out, falling back to bit banging on pin 4 [i915
gmbus dpc]

I then tailed both /var/log/syslog and /var/log/Xorg.0.log, then plugged
in the external display (no key presses, no xrandr yet). Here's what
happens right when I plug it in (you're right, the GMBUS message appears
right when I plug the external display):

== /var/log/syslog ==
Apr 27 15:14:49 201002-5345 kernel: [ 530.567145] [drm] GMBUS timed out,
falling back to bit banging on pin 2 [i915 gmbus vga]

== /var/log/Xorg.0.log ==
[ 531.748] (II) intel(0): Allocated new frame buffer 3072x1050 stride 12288,
tiled

I produced a dmesg file with this experimental kernel and the xdiagnose
settings as described on #6. I do see some events when plugging in the
external display and also when running xrandr --auto:

- Plugged in the external at [ 96.419325]
- xrandr --auto at [ 198.077408]

I'm attaching this new dmesg file as it might provide some information.
Still, the problem persists and the external display shows nothing, even
though it's being detected and used (terminal windows still appear in
the external monitor, for instance, and I have to move them to the
built-in to be able to use them).

Hmm, WAIT_FOR_EVENT, looks like a DRI2 copybuffer that died. Hopefully
the user was running some GL application at the time! There's not enough
evidence here to tie this to the hotplug-disable hangs, but can we
clarify that and ask Simon if a mode switch occurred at the time of the
hang?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 927541] Re: HDMI monitor issues since 5.2 (hybrid gfx)

2012-02-09 Thread Guy Van Sanden
I understand that you do not support hybrid, but it used to work on
11.10 and 12.04 up to last week, The update batch that broke it
contained Unity 5.2 and I think an Xorg update, not bumblebee or
Nvidia...

Can you please add pulseaudio to the project list (I can only add
upstream) as the HDMI audio issue should be theirs as the first poster
indicated.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 929475] Crash report cannot be processed

2012-02-09 Thread Apport retracing service
Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate a useful symbolic stack trace). This
might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:

libcups2 version 1.5.2-2 required, but 1.5.2-3 is available
python-gi version 3.1.0-1 required, but 3.1.0-2 is available
python-gobject version 3.1.0-1 required, but 3.1.0-2 is available

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 861437]

2012-02-09 Thread Tuxor1337
Is there any hope for a better clickpad performance in coming versions
due to the enormous advances in Xorg multitouch support pushed greatly
by Peter Hutterer during the last few months?

I saw all those articles on his blog (who-t..) and wondered if this will
affect clickpad support in the near future. What do you think?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 929384] [NEW] nvidia drivers broken by the recent libc update

2012-02-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Automatically reported crash while logging in after boot, running
Precise beta with continuous updates.

Login was also very slow, and Unity doesn't seem to have appeared: there
is no launcher panel or menu bar, non-maximized windows have their menus
inside the window, and maximized windows have their menu bar at the top
but without Ubuntu logo on the left. There are no indicators, clock,
and so on.

I tried this with both “Ubuntu” and “Ubuntu 2D” logins; same result. I
think I'm normally on Unity 2D (from PPA) but my session option in the
login screen does show “Ubuntu” by default.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745112] Re: [arrandale] desktop is messed up with external monitors (x86_64)

2012-02-09 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Hi Martin,

Thanks for all the extra testing and feedback. I'd been looking at bug
912387 (fdo bug 44881) in parallel. The patch to fix bug 912387 appears
to provide a fix for the issue you are seeing here. I've therefore
cherry-pick'ed the patch in question from the drm-intel-fixes branch
into Precise prior to the patch officially hitting the mainline kernel.
So this issue should be resolved in Precise after the next upload (which
I intend to do before the end of the week).

I see that the patch has also been CC'd to upstream stable. Once the
patch does land in mainline, it'll then propagate through to the
upstream stable releases. This means that it should land in Oneiric
automatically through our normal SRU process and not require any further
action on our part. Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 570151] Re: mouse stuck jumping between screens

2012-02-09 Thread a7x
I installed the packages from the xorg-edgers PPA
(https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa) on my Natty system a
little over a week ago. I haven't seen the problem since. I believe
the version of xorg-server in the PPA is very similar to the version in
Oneiric, so it's quite possible the bug is fixed in Oneiric.

Can someone test Oneiric and report back?

I've attached the requested dmesg output. This is a fresh install and I

that display.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 929384] Re: nvidia drivers broken by the recent libc update

2012-02-09 Thread Rachel Greenham
have nvidia, did upgrade as normal this morning, which I noticed *did*
include libc6 and kernel. Been using it since, with no problems except
handbrake's picture setting window won't open when run locally, which is
probably unrelated.

rachel@twilight:~$ uname -a
Linux twilight 3.2.0-15-generic #24-Ubuntu SMP Tue Feb 7 22:32:19 UTC 2012
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
rachel@twilight:~$ aptitude show nvidia-current | grep ^Version
Version: 290.10-0ubuntu2
rachel@twilight:~$ aptitude show libc6 | grep ^Version
Version: 2.15~pre6-0ubuntu10

Though I think I might have seen something like it in the past, but
probably unrelated and just looks similar.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 570151] Re: mouse stuck jumping between screens

2012-02-09 Thread dan_linder
I've been running Oneiric since December use it as primary workstation
weekdays, two NVidia cards driving three screens and I haven't had the
stuck mouse issue. (Though I had applied the PPA version on my
previous workstation so the problem has been a distant memory for me
for quite a while...)

I'll try to re-configure Synergy this weekend, Synergy was the program
that seemed to hang my system the most.

the version of xorg-server in the PPA is very similar to the version in
Oneiric, so it's quite possible the bug is fixed in Oneiric.

Can someone test Oneiric and report back?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 875236] Re: (EE) intel(0): Couldn't create pixmap for fbcon

2012-02-09 Thread Bryce Harrington
The error message (EE) intel(0): Couldn't create pixmap for fbcon is
probably harmless; it just means when X was restarted from the display
manager it wasn't able to do the seamless transition.

As to why you can get into unity 2d but not unity, nothing pertinent in
the X logs.  Try it again and watch the tail end of .xsession-errors;
perhaps it's a compiz bug?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 929655] Re: Unity randomly freezes after 11.10 upgrade

2012-02-09 Thread Bryce Harrington
There are errors about invalid framebuffers:

Xorg.0.log:
(EE) intel(0): Couldn't create pixmap for fbcon

dmesg:
[11678.477663] init: tty1 main process ended, respawning
[11680.331193] [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id

However these are not likely to be the cause of your issue.

Given that killing compiz restores the system to functionality, this
tends to suggest a bug in compiz, unity, or one of the compiz plugins.

Reproduce the bug and capture your ~/.xsession-errors while the system
is frozen, and attach that here. Hopefully the tail end of that will
contain a pertinent error message.

You may also want to review what compiz plugins you have enabled or any
compiz settings you may have made. Or, try logging into a guest session
and see if the error reproduces there.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 929384] Re: nvidia drivers broken by the recent libc update on i386 arch

2012-02-09 Thread Bryce Harrington
Jeroen, to clarify, you may not think you are using nvidia, but the bug
report captured a crash that appears to happen in nvidia's GL code:

 Thread 1 (LWP 2423):
 #0 0xb761f216 in ?? () from /usr/lib/nvidia-current/libGL.so.1

Your X logs just show -vesa loaded, which doesn't tell us much.

I think to work around the issue, you should do an apt-get purge of the
nvidia files (you can leave nvidia-common installed, it's harmless.)

We anticipate having an updated -nvidia ready later today that will
support this new libc.

Bryce: The newer nvidia driver discussed in IRC was a red herring and
does not fix this issue. the reason we couldn't reproduce it on the
newer nvidia driver was because it was on amd64, this is an eglibc bug
limited to the i386 arch

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 929655] Re: Unity randomly freezes after 11.10 upgrade

2012-02-09 Thread Bryce Harrington
jpds posted me the pertinent bits from the .xsession-errors:

** (gnome-fallback-mount-helper:1522): DEBUG: ConsoleKit session is active 0
gnome-session[1430]: WARNING: Application 'compiz.desktop' killed by signal
gnome-session[1430]: WARNING: App 'compiz.desktop' respawning too quickly
gnome-session[1430]: CRITICAL: We failed, but the fail whale is dead. Sorry

So, compiz is definitely getting stuck in a loop. gnome-session notices
it's failing and (I guess) restarts the session.

I'd follow the usual compiz troubleshooting steps from here. Enable
debugging; test a guest session; run compiz through gdb; disable compiz
plugins one by one, etc.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 929384] Re: nvidia drivers broken by the recent libc update on i386 arch

2012-02-09 Thread Rachel Greenham
I definitely am:

rachel@twilight:~$ dpkg --print-architecture
amd64

Also, started to suspect something when I didn't even have any such package
eglibc; but wasn't sure what that was about, hence trying to be sensible and
reporting my libc6 version instead.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 929711] Re: graphic effect

2012-02-09 Thread Paolo Rotolo
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

I still get this sort of behaviour - I was asked once for a password for

The way apport works, it can't hold onto the root password between
function calls. This bug was solved by attaching all three gdm files
in one function call.

However, the display manager data and the kernel data require separate
function calls, and since both require sudo to do so, you get prompted
twice. Still an undesired behavior, but not this bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 783993] Re: unity freezing periodicly [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id

2012-02-09 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? It
will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.3 kernel[1] (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've
tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing'
tag(Only that one tag, please leave the other tags). This can be done by
clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom
of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed by the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream-KERNEL-VERSION'. For example, if kernel
version 3.3-rc2 fixed the issue, the tag would be: 'kernel-fixed-
upstream-v3.3-rc2'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 929384] Re: nvidia drivers broken by the recent libc update on i386 arch

2012-02-09 Thread Steve Langasek
according to the comments on the eglibc patch from one of the upstream
authors, this is a workaround for what's really a bug in the nvidia
driver. I don't know if we want to keep the nvidia-graphics-drivers
task open, but that's certainly not anything foundations can fix, so
unassigning from us.
