[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 949434] Re: Problems with resolution
You have a point, but it's not related to my primary issue. I'm using a dual-DVI cable, however the mobo (Asus P8H61I / http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8H61I/ ) only supports DVI with Max. Resolution 1920 x 1200 @60Hz. The highest available for me was 1600x1200 and 1680x1050. If I'd been using HDMI I'd expect at least 1920x1080. My primary issue was that the default resolution both when installing and when starting the installed OS for the first time was 720x400, which is so low that it makes it really hard to change. (You don't get to see the entire config-screen, since the config-screen is at least 600 pixels high...) This is a bad experience for first-time installers and is likely to put them off without even trying Ubuntu. --- I noticed the same problem when I afterwards tried to install ubuntu 11.10... (Resolution set to 720x400, and the Apply button in change display resolution config window is outside the visible area on screen) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/949434 Title: Problems with resolution To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/949434/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 921384] Re: [MASTER] Xorg crashes when trying to play a video with XV under xserver 1.11 - xs111LookupPrivate
These drivers doesn't seem to install for me properly. When I install Catalyst 12.2 drivers, all I get after reboot is Unity 2D, can't run Unity3D it automatically sets me to 2D. And when I was able to make some workaround like installing it and then doing jockey install on it, it showed me that I use 12.2 but XV problem didin't disappeared. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/921384 Title: [MASTER] Xorg crashes when trying to play a video with XV under xserver 1.11 - xs111LookupPrivate To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/921384/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 949748] [NEW] Evolution does not obey xmodmap changes on external mouse
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I report this strange bug as an evolution bug, but it may also be in xserver-xorg or xserver-xorg-input-evdev bug. Hard to guess for me. I use a laptop with a multitouch trackpad and a bluetooth apple mouse (which is therefore plugged after X has started). For information, this is what Xorg says when the mouse connects by Bluetooth: [43.751] (II) config/udev: Adding input device apple’s Mouse (/dev/input/event12) [43.751] (**) apple’s Mouse: Applying InputClass evdev pointer catchall [43.751] (II) Using input driver 'evdev' for 'apple’s Mouse' [43.751] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/evdev_drv.so [43.751] (**) apple’s Mouse: always reports core events [43.751] (**) evdev: apple’s Mouse: Device: /dev/input/event12 [43.751] (--) evdev: apple’s Mouse: Vendor 0x5ac Product 0x30d [43.751] (--) evdev: apple’s Mouse: Found 3 mouse buttons [43.751] (--) evdev: apple’s Mouse: Found scroll wheel(s) [43.751] (--) evdev: apple’s Mouse: Found relative axes [43.751] (--) evdev: apple’s Mouse: Found x and y relative axes [43.751] (--) evdev: apple’s Mouse: Found absolute axes [43.751] (--) evdev: apple’s Mouse: Found absolute multitouch axes [43.751] (II) evdev: apple’s Mouse: Configuring as mouse [43.751] (II) evdev: apple’s Mouse: Adding scrollwheel support [43.751] (**) evdev: apple’s Mouse: YAxisMapping: buttons 4 and 5 [43.751] (**) evdev: apple’s Mouse: EmulateWheelButton: 4, EmulateWheelInertia: 10, EmulateWheelTimeout: 200 [43.751] (**) Option config_info udev:/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:1a.7/usb1/1-1/1-1.1/1-1.1.3/1-1.1.3:1.0/bluetooth/hci0/hci0:11/input15/event12 [43.751] (II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device apple’s Mouse (type: MOUSE, id 13) [43.751] (II) evdev: apple’s Mouse: initialized for relative axes. To make things clearer... - if I issue a xmodmap -e pointer = 1 2 3 4 5 then the wheel events are working as expected with both the trackpad and the mouse, under all software (including evolution). - If I issue a xmodmap -e pointer = 1 2 3 5 4 then the wheel events are inverted, as expected, with both the trackpad and the mouse on all software... but not on evolution. There, the trackpad generated events are inverted as expected but the mouse generated events are not. The situation is even more puzzling: In the left (mailboxes) windows and in the upper right (mail header lines) windows, the trackpad is inverted but not the external mouse. In the bottom right window (current mail), the trackpad works fine (inverted) but the mouse wheel generates no true movement: the lines just go up and down rapidly so the window shivers but does not move overall. It looks like it gets a pair of events, one up and own down at each event. To conclude this test, I borrowed a USB mouse and plugged it in. This generated the following Xorg log: [ 4009.282] (II) config/udev: Adding input device Logitech USB Optical Mouse (/dev/input/event13) [ 4009.282] (**) Logitech USB Optical Mouse: Applying InputClass evdev pointer catchall [ 4009.282] (II) Using input driver 'evdev' for 'Logitech USB Optical Mouse' [ 4009.282] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/evdev_drv.so [ 4009.282] (**) Logitech USB Optical Mouse: always reports core events [ 4009.282] (**) evdev: Logitech USB Optical Mouse: Device: /dev/input/event13 [ 4009.282] (--) evdev: Logitech USB Optical Mouse: Vendor 0x46d Product 0xc06a [ 4009.283] (--) evdev: Logitech USB Optical Mouse: Found 3 mouse buttons [ 4009.283] (--) evdev: Logitech USB Optical Mouse: Found scroll wheel(s) [ 4009.283] (--) evdev: Logitech USB Optical Mouse: Found relative axes [ 4009.283] (--) evdev: Logitech USB Optical Mouse: Found x and y relative axes [ 4009.283] (II) evdev: Logitech USB Optical Mouse: Configuring as mouse [ 4009.283] (II) evdev: Logitech USB Optical Mouse: Adding scrollwheel support [ 4009.283] (**) evdev: Logitech USB Optical Mouse: YAxisMapping: buttons 4 and 5 [ 4009.283] (**) evdev: Logitech USB Optical Mouse: EmulateWheelButton: 4, EmulateWheelInertia: 10, EmulateWheelTimeout: 200 [ 4009.283] (**) Option config_info udev:/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:1a.7/usb1/1-1/1-1.3/1-1.3:1.0/input/input16/event13 [ 4009.283] (II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device Logitech USB Optical Mouse (type: MOUSE, id 14) [ 4009.283] (II) evdev: Logitech USB Optical Mouse: initialized for relative

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 950194] [NEW] nvidia-settings forgets primary display setting
Public bug reported: When using an external monitor on my laptop in twinview mode, nvidia- settings routinely forgets the 'primary display' setting. My laptop's screen is 1440x900, and I want it to be the primary display. My external display is 1280x1024, and I don't want it to be set as the primary display (n.b. it's not clear that the primary display setting actually does anything useful from the user's point of view). To reproduce: 1) Boot with no external display attached 2) Plug in an external display 3) Launch nvidia-settings; detect displays and use the 'Configuration' popup to enable the external display in twinview mode. Ensure that the checkbox, Make this the primary display for the X screen is checked for the internal display and not the external display 4) Press 'Apply' in nvidia-settings. The external display should now be enabled 5) Quit nvidia-settings 6) Relaunch nvidia-settings and navigate to the X Server Display Configuration section Expected results: The laptop's internal display is set as the primary display for the X screen Actual results: The external display is set as the primary display for the X screen. This is reliably reproducible on my system. If you set the internal display to be the primary again (after step 6) and quit/relaunch nvidia-settings, the primary display setting is retained properly. It only seems to be broken the first time you launch nvidia-settings after adding an external display. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 949330] Re: nVidia driver won't load anymore
Looks like it isn't finding the kernel nvidia driver. Guess when you upgraded it updated the kernel but for whatever reason didn't rebuild the nvidia driver. Probably if you go into grub and boot an earlier kernel it'd work. Try `sudo apt-get purge nvidia-*` and then reinstalling nvidia-current via jockey. That should force it to rebuild against the current kernel. It would be interesting to see a make.log or something to see why the kernel module didn't get built. Have you manually installed kernels during this timeframe? ** Description changed: Upgraded to 12.04 beta about a week ago, display worked fine. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 949330] Re: nVidia driver won't load anymore
Using the tool nvidia-xconfig I was able to reactivate the nVidia driver in Xorg. But after rebooting the tool nvidia-settings still complained: You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server. After that I tried to enable a driver using Jockey and selected the first driver without success (could not activate the driver). Jockey log says: --2012-03-08 19:18:11,635 WARNING: modinfo for module fglrx_updates failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module fglrx_updates 2012-03-08 19:18:11,858 WARNING: modinfo for module fglrx failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module fglrx 2012-03-08 19:18:12,015 WARNING: modinfo for module ath_pci failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module ath_pci 2012-03-08 19:18:12,020 WARNING: modinfo for module vmxnet failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module vmxnet 2012-03-08 19:18:12,036 WARNING: modinfo for module wl failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module wl 2012-03-08 19:18:12,065 WARNING: modinfo for module nvidia_96 failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module nvidia_96 2012-03-08 19:18:12,085 WARNING: modinfo for module nvidia_current failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module nvidia_current 2012-03-08 19:18:12,183 WARNING: modinfo for module nvidia_173_updates failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module nvidia_173_updates 2012-03-08 19:18:12,209 WARNING: modinfo for module nvidia_173 failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module nvidia_173 2012-03-08 19:18:12,229 WARNING: modinfo for module nvidia_96_updates failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module nvidia_96_updates 2012-03-08 19:18:13,188 WARNING: modinfo for module nvidia_current failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module nvidia_current 2012-03-08 19:18:13,237 WARNING: modinfo for module nvidia_173_updates failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module nvidia_173_updates 2012-03-08 19:18:13,283 WARNING: modinfo for module nvidia_173 failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module nvidia_173 2012-03-08 19:18:32,447 WARNING: modinfo for module nvidia_current failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module nvidia_current 2012-03-08 19:18:32,447 ERROR: XorgDriverHandler.enable(): package or module not installed, aborting 2012-03-08 19:19:38,193 WARNING: modinfo for module fglrx_updates failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module fglrx_updates 2012-03-08 19:19:38,284 WARNING: modinfo for module fglrx failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module fglrx 2012-03-08 19:19:38,348 WARNING: modinfo for module ath_pci failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module ath_pci 2012-03-08 19:19:38,354 WARNING: modinfo for module vmxnet failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module vmxnet 2012-03-08 19:19:38,382 WARNING: modinfo for module wl failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module wl 2012-03-08 19:19:38,432 WARNING: modinfo for module nvidia_96 failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module nvidia_96 2012-03-08 19:19:38,489 WARNING: modinfo for module nvidia_current failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module nvidia_current 2012-03-08 19:19:38,665 WARNING: modinfo for module nvidia_173_updates failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module nvidia_173_updates 2012-03-08 19:19:38,720 WARNING: modinfo for module nvidia_173 failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module nvidia_173 2012-03-08 19:19:38,774 WARNING: modinfo for module nvidia_96_updates failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module nvidia_96_updates 2012-03-08 19:19:39,477 WARNING: modinfo for module nvidia_current failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module nvidia_current 2012-03-08 19:19:39,538 WARNING: modinfo for module nvidia_173_updates failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module nvidia_173_updates 2012-03-08 19:19:39,598 WARNING: modinfo for module nvidia_173 failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module nvidia_173 2012-03-08 19:45:20,125 WARNING: modinfo for module fglrx_updates failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module fglrx_updates 2012-03-08 19:45:20,317 WARNING: modinfo for module fglrx failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module fglrx 2012-03-08 19:45:20,451 WARNING: modinfo for module ath_pci failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module ath_pci 2012-03-08 19:45:20,455 WARNING: modinfo for module vmxnet failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module vmxnet 2012-03-08 19:45:20,471 WARNING: modinfo for module wl failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module wl 2012-03-08 19:45:20,512 WARNING: modinfo for module nvidia_96 failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module nvidia_96 2012-03-08 19:45:20,533 WARNING: modinfo for module nvidia_current failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module nvidia_current 2012-03-08 19:45:20,697 WARNING: modinfo for module nvidia_173_updates failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module nvidia_173_updates 2012-03-08 19:45:20,754 WARNING: modinfo for module nvidia_173 failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module nvidia_173 2012-03-08 19:45:20,811 WARNING: modinfo
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 949330] Re: nVidia driver won't load anymore
Bryce thank you for your comment. I hadn't noticed it, but as it happens I just rebooted after doing: sudo aptitude reinstall nvidia-current Now the video card is working again and the display is automatically using the correct resolution, although my display still isn't recognised. I did not install manual kernels, everything I've done since the dist- upgrade was apt-get update, apt-get upgrade except for the aptitude call I mention in this comment. I don't see any make.log* in /var/log. If there is something that I can do to help, just let me know. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/949330 Title: nVidia driver won't load anymore To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/949330/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
